Right? We forgetting about reliquaries here? The various disinterred bones of saints? Carried around in shiny metal and glass cases? Like, they carried the supposed Crucifixion cross to Jerusalem in the crusades because it “still had Jesus’s blood on it.”
@@forkingsandkeys Exactly! The cathedrals and churches of Europe all have “treasuries” full of saint relics (ie body parts) proudly displayed in ornate, bejeweled glass boxes. Plus there are a fair amount of “incorruptibles” on display in chapels dedicated to them (has there already been a video on incorruptibles? I just discovered this channel and haven’t been through the entire backlog). In fact, every Roman Catholic Church must have a saint’s relic (you can’t say Mass without one; something about the fact that in the early days of Roman Christianity, Mass was held in the catacombs of Rome). (Not saying all of this to diss Catholics-I’m a practicing Catholic myself). What these folks did is honestly not so different from that tradition. They probably would have put her in a hermetically sealed diamond encrusted gold and silver box with glass sides if they had had one laying around but they didn’t so they went with Christmas lights and glitter eyeshadow instead, I guess?
This was exactly what I thinking of the one year I went to catholic school (having only ever experienced protestant religion etc) and they were like "we've brought the finger bone of Saint Peter to pray with it's like hella ancient :D"
@@absenttoday7226 omg, I'm just picturing the look on your face! I'm watching this HBO documentary as it comes out, and while most of the cult members are young people who could believably be persuaded by a charismatic leader to join, one of them was a mother who brought her children... that was genuinely horrifying and even after Carlson died she's still a member of the cult! The kids are with their grandparents, thank god, but it's like watching aliens or something, the way they talk.
Agree. Just finished watching the 3 part series today. I noticed that even though these folks were *constantly talking and livestreaming, they were just repeating the same (imo, meaningless) words, over and over. Word salad for the enlightened, no substance, just catch phrases. 4D vs 3D world, ascending, the galactics, moving energy, the cabal, divine plan, the matrix, etc. I've noticed that other cults also use unique but empty language. One example is Keith Reniere & Co. in NXIVM. Another is scientology. My question is, why? What is the purpose? Is it to confuse followers? To appear as enlightened or unique?
@@D.Susan14 I think some of them are genuinely deluded, and believe the shit they say. A few who they interviewed clearly didn't 100% buy in, even if they were enamored with Amy (like the first Father God, also a girl with red hair whose name I don't remember). I think some of them have a chance of escaping the delusion, at the end of the documentary one of them even reconnected with her mother (though she still is pushing this 5D nonsense, but I think in time she may put it behind her).
This is common. You see a lot of parents join cults, their kids are sucked in, the kids leave, the parents stay. As the cult essentially reprograms them not to put their kid first, but the cult/cult leader.

Depends on how you put it. If you read it like "Love has won... For now! But we will come for you, love, more hostile and drunk and higher than ever, and we will kick your fucking understanding, caring and, uuuh, loving ass!", then the name makes sense.
"Only the duck can save us!" Oh, sorry. I'm channeling Starkids again. Side note, anyone else seen Firebringer by Starkids? There's a literal duck cult in it!
I saw the video from her ex-fiance and it was really freaking sad. He said she was a wonderful person before she completely lost her mind (from drug and alchy abuse) and he showed pictures of her younger days when she was a responsible young lady who took care of her family and had a lot of good goals for her future together with him. Stay away from alcohol and drugs, kids. It will ruin your mind. What a waste of a life.
I think placing all the blame on alcohol and drugs is potentially reductive. A lot of people struggle with addiction but don't become cult leaders. I'm not a psychologist but it seems pretty obvious that Amy had narcissistic tendencies. That, with probably other undiagnosed mental issues is what caused her to be the way she was.
Drugs and alcohol are the attempt at ESCAPE, not the cause. She had problems before that. She showed classic signs of borderline personality disorder. She was attracted to abusive men. She just up and LEFT her children one day. The sheer fact she kept taking on men in her cult and calling them all 'Father' doesn't spell out 'daddy issues' any better. If you watch the documentary you can see they all have major abandonment issues and were creating their own realities to cope.
Same. I rescue orphaned kittens. I wanted to tie her up with something electrical, myself, for slinging a cat around by the neck and screaming expletives at its cries.

I have yelled when a dog bit me on accident. But it's over in under a second and the animal runs away. And that's the end of it. Dog bites, I yell, dog runs, I let the incident stop.

I love how the native Hawaiian population was rightly offended by her sacrilege and took action, yet most everyone else was pretty chill about her claiming to be a return of the Messiah. Maybe it's because of how often that happens? Don't fuck with Pele, though, her followers represent.
I think it's also because of the difference of power/prominence when comparing the two religions. Hawaiian culture was banned by the colonizers, and many Hawaiians today are working tirelessly to preserve their culture. The same is true for most indigenous cultures/religions. Meanwhile Christianity is the world's largest and most powerful religion, and the one kind of responsible for the destruction of those indigenous cultures in the first place. So ya, there's a big difference between an outsider claiming to be a deity of an indigenous religion at risk of extinction vs someone claiming to be Jesus. Hi someone who was born and grew up in Hawaii (and I'm still here lol but I grew up on O'ahu) I haven't learned of any instances where Pele left in Hawaiian Mythology. But more of how she's still present lol. I'll list some urban legends/things related to her. On the big island (Hawaii) there's a thing called Pele's curse and it's that anyone who takes something from there would get bad luck until it's returned. Even taking something like a small rock counts. So every year tourists mail back a bunch of things they took from the big island and write letters about the misfortunes that followed them. 2nd one is what I heard from my mom growing up. But the urban legend is that Pele sometimes travels to each island disguised as an old woman in a white dress and asks strangers for help or for a ride. If you help her, she'll also help you out later. An example is her protecting that person. The version I heard was that she put a ring of leaves around the house of the person who helped her before she left. Later that day one of the active volcanoes had lava flow down into that area and all the other houses were destroyed except that house. Hope this kinda answers your question or was interesting!

True. A former colleague of mine went to her uncle's wake in County Kerry. Apparently people were ambling in with bags of shopping as if coming to look at a corpse was a perfectly normal thing to do on the way home from the grocery store.

I live in Honolulu, honestly there's something about the islands that attracts cults, there's like around 10 in Honolulu and Kailua alone, its insane. It probably has to do with it being an isolated tropical paradise, a kind of promised land or Zion that's also the most isolated archipelago on the planet. I dunno, something about this place really draws the 'religious alternative' crowd.
It's because it's the most percieved "untouched land of natural beauty" new age cultists can think of. That and it's exotic enough that information about beliefs gets put through the misinformation pipeline and theres more suspension of disbelief in something that sounds more like a fairytale than something you're familiar with. The more new and less tangible the better. Using learning about it as a luring tactic.
Have to second the "untouched" myth, also it could have something to do with the complete lack of education about hawaii in many american schools. I suspect its easier to romanticize a place when the omly paragraph they get in your history book is just about the colonizers
It's because it's a 'convenient paradise' for cults to establish a base. It's a tropical paradise that is romanticized in American culture, and it's isolated compared to the mainland. BUT it's also legal US territory so you don't need to even get a passport to get you and your followers to the islands. You just need some cash for the plane tickets and to either rent or buy property for a compound (and money is something cults ALWAYS have). Plus, with America's lax laws regulating religions and little to no taxes on their money, even a cult of around 20+ people can scrounge up enough cash to get to the Hawaiian Islands. But as we saw, STAYING on the islands is a lot harder than it looks. Especially since the locals aren't going to put up with a bunch of BS from Love Has Won, or the Carbon Nation, or any one number of cult groups that try to set up shop.
I live where they found her, and yeah, we have the same New Age/Old Hippy/Cult problem here. People come here because it is so (insert romanticized crap here). A lot of people think they can get away with stuff here, too, "Because Mayberry" (no offense to Mayberry) and they think that because it is so rural, they can do whatever. They can't. What they don't realize is that we are actually more of a fishbowl and everybody knows everybody's business (which, I guess IS very Mayberry, after all.) That's why the cops were able to identify the remains themselves. The only place worse than here for this romanticized-natural-beauty-that-attracts-weirdos-and others-who-don't-need-to-move-here crap is Taos, and that is way too -- nearby -- as well.

Don't call it a comeback. I been here for years.

True. A former colleague of mine went to her uncle's wake in County Kerry. Apparently people were ambling in with bags of shopping as if coming to look at a corpse was a perfectly normal thing to do on the way home from the grocery store.
@@lesleyb5591 At least those are fresh corpses...
Amish are kind of unique since because of their self-isolation, they deal with the dead in a very personal hands-on way like people used to do. Regular folk whose loved ones die in a hospital and go to a mortuary do not encounter dead bodies on the reg, so he was probably right.

They caught and arrested Lori Vallow and her creepy cult husband there after her children went missing. It must be the whole "Garden of Eden" vibe of the tropics that draws those narcissistic psycho types.
"we're not a cult" she says, leading the order of the good death (a great cult name if i ever heard one) and calling us her deathlings...lol

Her ex posted a really heartwarming video, a slideshow, of Amy before she lost her mind. He said she was a kind person and didn't know this person she had turned into. It's a really sad story cos he seemed so much in love with her. Alcoholism is awful.
nonononono it is not alcoholism that is the problem, is her personality and also his. Stop romanticising and excusing abusive and toxic behaviour.
@@jeanmbt_neko Alcoholism really can ruin people's personalities. You can be a good person, then your loved ones can see you turn into a horrible abusive person because of alcoholism. You don't have to be a bad person in the beginning of your life to become a bad person by the end of it.
@@jeanmbt_neko i wouldn’t say they were romanticizing or excusing any of her behaviors, it seems he was showing everyone what kind of person she was because he had loved what she used to be and not the person she become.
I wonder if her cancer metastasized to her brain- brain tumors can radically alter a person's personality.
I don't believe someone who tortures animals like that and a lot of other stuff she did would do it only because of alcoholism, which normally is more a symptom than a cause for this kind of personality and behaviour. Maybe she didn't show publicly before but cared less when under alcohol influence.
