I have a huge appreciation for morticians because I lost my mother recently. The mortician that took care of her was above and beyond anything I’d ever imagine. He really cared and made sure everything was exactly as I asked for. I did request him to allow me to do my mother’s makeup and he let me go into the mortuary and do it. It was heavy. It’s something that I will carry with me forever.
My aunts a hairdresser and was requested by one of her clients to do her mum's makeup and hair for their funeral and she said she talked with her, asked her what colors she'd like for her eye makeup and complimented her hair all the same as a living person. She felt odd doing someone's hair and makeup without them responding, so she used her own discretion by still asking and seeing what suited her face and hair to make her look most like mum again.
That’s beautiful of your mum! I’m the same, I think it’s just a nice way to show respect to the dead by treating them as the living, so I totally get your mum. She sounds like a wonderful person 🫶
this is the sweetest thing i have ever heard. you’re Aunt is a sweetheart
One of my friends styled her ex’s mom after she passed. I thought it was the sweetest thing she could ever do for her partner.
That's... actually wholesome!
I’ve had the opportunity to do a few clients and family members hair for their funerals. It was actually really peaceful and I was able to say my own goodbyes in private. I talked to them too while I I worked. A couple of them had adult daughters that asked to be present while I did their mother’s hair.

It’s so crazy that this guys has become an instant watch for me. Dude is the most likeable guy ever
So on my granddads funeral,I accidentally stumbled on a mortician doing their job... I know, chilling. I didn't have the strength to go for viewing at first so I was among the last once to do so. Entered the wrong door. And you know what, I would say that I am glad I did. Changed my perspective on death. So the bodies were being washed but with such tremendous care. Really eased me up just knowing there's someone taking care of you.
The guy was obviously shocked, but I guess he saw that I was not scared just processing the moment. He was so chill and he actually assisted me himself rather than calling in a nurse to do so. He even gave me the greatest advice on death "it is sad but it is just life... It'll happen to everyone of us"

Years ago, I worked in a hospital's material services department. Part of the job's duties was we had to restock the morgue's supply of cadaver kits. The kits contained a body bag, a toe tag, and a pack of sterilized tools the mortician needs to do their job. This was also a highly interesting job because I got to see the true "behind the scenes" of a hospital. Material services does light janitorial details like emptying the trash cans in patient rooms, reloading the crash carts the doctors and nurses use, reload the dispensers with medication doses, and sometimes I'd even be asked to help wheel a patient out for discharge which felt really good to do.

I had read that in regards to exhumation the condition of the body really depends on many factors, including environment and how well the casket and burial vault are sealed (particularly against moisture) and also how well the embalming is done. Obviously someone who is not buried in a vault or perhaps in a wooden casket likely will not be preserved as long as someone in a metal casket with seals, or even a lead-lined casket as is the case I think with royalty (such as what former queens and kings were often buried in).
