Great video, inspired me to paint mine by myself. Just if anyone can help what are the best spray brand as well as the clear spray brand. Thank you
All the items I used are in the description the best clearcoat I've used in a can is 2k clear which is the same time of clearcoat used by bodyshops
@@The_journeyy thank you.
No worries thanks for reaching out 😊
What products did you use there? Especially the paint and clear coat. Also, what sanding and the other.
Bare random ppl coming with their extra commentary like they're David Attenborough, relax your batty and enjoy the man's hard work which looks AMAZING! You'd think this was a submission to a spray painting competition with the way some of you are making unnecessary comments. "Why didn't you do this?!" "You should have done this" Is it your video, channel or car?? answer me, quickly. He did what he did because HE wanted to do it that way, what's not adding up for you?? And yet he's liking your comments replying with grace. Lord have mercy.
I appreciate the feedback bro thanks for the love hope your well and keeping safe 🙌
For fck sake 320 grit ? Even my kid know thats huge mistake
You taught me to spray my own wheels that now look amazing.. I saved on a quote of £480 & it only cost me £50! Thank you & for a brilliant video easy to quickly follow & learn from without all the hyped-up shite presented by some jumped up kid that has never had a real job! ✌️Peace and unity
I love hearing this kind of stuff bro I'm so glad that the video could be of some use to you it's crazy how easy it is to do them yet the guys who do painting will try charge £480 😁
Yes bro had to come back and thank you mans wheels is looking saucy right now.. bless ❤️
You spray painted yours yeah? That's great news 😀
Yeah man bit sketchy at first bro ngl😂 but pulled through really nice in the end result.
@@sgtKRILLEX I remember feeling like that when I did my first set of wheels sanded it down looked at the wheels and thought ohh sh*t I've messed up now no turning back. Well done 👏 If you can do wheels which are a bit more awkward if you ever need to do panels you'll breeze right on through 😁
@@The_journeyy I know the feeling 😅 and yeah that’s good then I’ll keep that in mind! like I say thanks again for sharing you’re knowledge 😎

Great video mate, literally inspired me to do my own rims. Only needed 1 can of primer so far for all 4 wheels :) Don't know how you found the time to do all that masking ngl
I'm glad it did bro it's so worth while doing it and I'm not sure either tbf but tbf it wasn't too long to do that for me 😁
Straight to the point they came out great brother 👍 I’ll be painting my rims soon after seeing this video
I'm glad the video was useful 😊
Well done young fella. Good technique and workmanship 👍🏻
Thank you for the kind words just learning and trying to get better 🙏
That looks fantastic, exactly what I'm after. Cheers
Hello Caesar I'm glad it is, I've heard back from a few people who've gone on to spray paint their wheels after this video and their thrilled with their results hope your well 😊
Just that extra step of removing the wheels makes a huge improvement in the quality of the re spray.
Silver will still be visible looking through the openings
Thanks for the advice Ed 😊 I did that on my vw wheels recently personally in my opinion even just doing the face still looks amazing just depends on how you want them to look really
Well done for all of the replies for everyone. It makes all the difference well done fella.
Thank you Tony I appreciate the kind words 👏
Looks good man, just bought my son his first car... $4000 budget because, I don't love him that much lol 😏😂, j/k. Got a great deal on the car, amazing shape. Just doesn't have tinted windows, rims are bland alloy. I just wanna "Jazz It Up" before I give it to him and this is a great way to do that, never considered Spray Paint. Appreciate the video and tips, I'm going to try it out. Thanks 🤟🇨🇦
Such a small modification on a car that gives the car a 10x wow factor don't forget to use 2k clearcoat for the best results 👌
@@The_journeyy 2k Clear Coat? Will do, thanks man 🤟🇨🇦
Excellent, professional work. I'm inspired. Awesome that you're wearing a respirator. None of that stuff is safe to breathe!
Thank you and agreed its good to always have one on when doing your work your lungs will thank you for it 😊
Good job mate, me personally id of taken atleast two of the wheels off to prep and spray , tried to got out of that wind if poss, still looked good
Thanks 😄
Looks sick. Made it less daunting. Gonna give mine a go
I felt exactly the same way 😊 but it's definitely a lot easier than I thought
Lovely job on this bro. Do you mind if I ask why you didn't take the wheel off the car before painting though? You wouldn't have had to mask everything up (ie the wing) and would have got more of a thorough job. Also - a tip for you, if you're leaving the tyre on, use a deck of playing cards between the tyre and the wheel to mask off the tyre, that way you're not using tons of masking tape. You can also use clingfilm around the tyre where you used masking tape too if you take the wheel off. But all in all, lovely job, specially considering you didn't take the wheels off!
I don't have axle stands or a trolley jack which I imagine most people who are trying this for their first time wouldn't either. The card method a lot of RUclipsrs on here suggest isn't a very good trick and is unreliable I tried it in my first wheel refurb video and I wouldn't recommend it personally. Thanks for the feedback hope your keeping safe and are well 😊
@@The_journeyy What happened when you used a deck of cards?
While I was in the middle of painting some of the cars fell out which you really don't want especially if your putting on the clearcoat I personally wouldn't use that trick again
@@The_journeyy Oh ok thanks but that would not happen if you tape the cards onto the tire
@@The_journeyy Anyway thanks for the quick reply love from India
That's some fine work de bway👌👌🙌🙌🙌💯

Thank you for this video, I think you did good and the results are excellent. Of course it’s “better” to remove the wheel and blast the surface etc etc, but life is a compromise and in this case you did not sacrifice quality in my opinion.. it’s good and it’s achievable for the average enthusiast.. thanks again for a great video.
Glad it was helpful! thanks for watching
Looks amazing! Really want to do this on my landrover
Thank you, I would say you definitely should do it. The difference it makes to the car is well worth it I absolutely love my daily now because of the wheels
Thanks for the video mate just finished my alloys 👍
Thanks for watching mate I'm glad your done bet they look so good 😁
@@The_journeyy not as good as yours but better than paying 200 quid 😂👍
That is definitely better than paying 200 quid
Nice job great results! Probably could have taken a step back and got wider coverage without being so close to the wheel.
Hi Jeremy, thanks for the feedback and possibly could have been a little further away
looks like a thorough job, nice...
Hi Sickiey thanks for the kind words much appreciated 😊
Looks good bro but the over spray on the car doors paints gotta suck
Thanks for the feedback 😀
Greetings from Greece bro...
I don't wanna hate or something since im a diy guy myself but your Benz is probably covered with overspray which only a claybar could remove causing some marring on the clear coat
Its all good mate I appreciate the feedback, the paint for the Benz is all good because I took minor steps like covering the said areas that were near the spray paint areas I had no issues not to mention I did the job on a day with next to no wind speed. Fortunately the wheels are not my first paint job. For someone who's worried about overspray and new to painting I'd make sure to cover the car more when doing the job or possibly just getting a plastic spray paint cover and then exposing the areas that need painting hope your well
Looks great bud!!! 👍
Thank you 👏
Thanks for the video, the alloy looked amazing 😊 deffo need to do mine now 👍😊
Thanks for the kind feedback Melissa I appreciate it and remember for the best results don't forget to put on three coats of clear realised I forgot to show my last coat of 2k clear in the vid 😀
This is a great video!! I'll be doing mine soon..
Thank you for the kind words don't forget to put three coats of 2k clearcoat for bodyshop results
Great job mate im going to do mine soon just need the primer to start with haha but got some cheap gloss black rim spray paint for $4 😂
Thanks for the kind words bro and awesome that your taking on the job and getting it done yourself 👏
Looks sick man!!!

Very nice work my friend, you got a new sub! I’m doing my wheels this weekend
Thanks Ian, the weathers great for it at the moment. I can't wait also to do my vw wheels shortly 😄
You need to cover more of the cars paint up from the overspray.
.
Awesome post mate and hey we both live in Portsmouth :)
Thank you Dave and that's awesome might see you around 😁
Class work thanks 👌 I'm doing mine shortly
Thank you I appreciate the kind words, I've got a few things to spray shortly as well. Have a good time 😊
Yes! Someone showing how to paint while the wheels are on the car 🙌🏼. Thank you! Did you have to tape the bolts in the middle of the wheel?
I'm glad you approve of doing it with the wheels on the car Emily half the comment section was just moaning about me not taking them off lol clearly missing the point of not everyone has the tools or space to be able to take the wheels off or the time 😀
Don't do this..take the wheels off the car.people are moaning bc he's half assing it.hes got spray all over the side of that car.

Great job sir. Can you just list for me everything I need to buy? Like panel wipe, sanding and what type of paint exactly?

Nice work, how long does this process take.
Thanks bro about half a day but depends on the person's speed and environment they're working in

Hi MBCarfreak thanks for the kind words I appreciate the feedback ☺
How many cans would I need to buy for all 4 alloys? Thank you
Depends on your size of your wheels have a look at the description of this video quantities I used for these are in there :😀

I'm glad it was quick and easy thanks for reaching out love to hear how others got on 😊
The products you used where did you get them from or are they general products you bought? Great video
I bought them from my local autobody shop I've listed the names of them all in the description of the video hope that helps and thank you for the kind words 👏
But then it fades when you hit the highway I been having this issue why is it doing that
You either used a cheap quality clearcoat not the proper 2k or you didn't put on three decent coats
How many Grey Primer and Black Aerosol did you use for 4 wheels?
I can't remember exact quantities but its all in the description 😀
Hi, great job!
I am just wondering how are the alloys now? Do they chip easily, has the paint came off or fade?
Thanks !
Hi Caitlin thanks for the kind words alloys are still looking mint, with the 2k clearcoat I used on them no they won't its more durable. I will be glossing my VW wheels shortly as well 😊
@@The_journeyy film the VW set too my guy! 👊
I just finished doing them this weekend here is the video I made sure to get a longer video of the finished product ruclips.net/video/DelmKgJ_Z9k/видео.html
Hi mate amazing job 👏 👍 but just to know before you starting use black spray paint why you use the grey spray?
Because the surface has to be primed its part of the painting process
Awesome mate just ordered all the kit and watching that has give me a little confidence boost 👍
I'm glad its given you the boost I'd never done wheels before when I first gave it a go, when I did it was much easier than I thought its just the prep on the tyre that takes a bit of time 😁
I would assume removing the wheel would be easier to paint it?
That's all based on opinion I'd say, personally I'd say its only easier if the wheels are already not on the car and nothing has to be done to the car to get them off If they're on the car then probably not, wheels will need to come off, car will need to be lifted and put on axle stands etc and the whole process for the wheels will need to be done 😊 I've bought a spare set for my VW which I'm painting when they arrive soon that will be easier because I won't have to do anything to the car only take the old ones off and put the new ones on once the job is complete 😁
its fuckingwell hard work removing a wheel sometimes.the only way is to take the car to a garage as the nuts and theres ALWAYS one that wont move.ive always done em on the car ,takes no time at all .take ur time short blasts
It actually is as well just done it this weekend and I've to say it was a nightmare lol
@@The_journeyy tbh a wipe down and a quick gloss spray that costs pennies every so often works perfectly well .fuck powder coating and all that bollox. nobody actually cares what colour ur wheels are anyway lol
It really does cost pennies and lasts a long time I couldn't justify paying those premium prices for the work four tyres in my area are £500 to £600 pounds just for a normal spray
Cool....but what would happen if I were to wash the car at the car wash and spray the rims with water to clean them.....will the paint on the rims come off or no

Hi there. Could you give me the brand black you used? Please! Thanks. It was so shiny and bright. Love it
Hi there its called Mr aerosol ebay.us/8DWdC6 the rest of the items are linked in the description 😊
I like to go heavy on clear coat especially on the last coat..so it looks like a factory finish, having said that you have to be very careful or you can get it very runny, been re spraying for years so I have mastered the technique lol.
That is very true practice makes improvements keep up the great work 👍
Love the video and awesome Job ! Can you list the products you used and what did U have in the bucket ? Was that water or another solution ? I am excited and nervous to paint my rims but would after seeing this video, I'm almost ready
Thank you bro appreciate the feedback I've listed all the items in the description and in the bucket I just regular water to wet sand with but you can also dry sand as well 😊
Why not just take the tire off? I don’t mess with Mercedes but I’d imagine there’s tire sensors and computer crap that gets effected? Or you need special lug nut wrenches?
I did the job for a family member and I didn't have all those things to hand so we did a DIY job for him, same situation most DIYs who are just starting would be in
Ok I was going to say if you had a jack and a set of sockets you could of skipped the tapping off the fender but understanding
You own an AMG, and do this painting work by yourself?
Nope I did the painting job as a favour for a relative :)
Hi, if I was to simply apply the spray paint without primer would it not stay? Ordered the coloured spray paint and now have just seen your video using primer and a top coat.
Thanks for the help!
Hey Amy, it is possible that you could prep the area you want to paint by sanding it and then put your coloured spray paint on without the primer sometimes it does still bond together but most of the time it refuses and you get bubbles and the paint refuses to stick on and peels it's a 50/50 😊,
Personally I'd do it the right way and put your primer on and allow each layer to dry and then coloured spray paint and then apply your clear and you'll find that it becomes 100% more likely to work without issues and your paint will bond and last a long time hope that helps 😁
@@The_journeyy how do you fix bubbles on in wheel paintjob. I used 3 coats of primer and one coat of paint. I sanded the wheels with 600 grit sandpaper, washed with water and cleaned with alcohol and than dried wheels before adding the primer and paint. I still got bubbles on my wheel.
Great job
Thanks Eric 😄
Great video… gonna give it a try today
Hey Marc, I'm glad you think so hope you've a good time with your project 🔥
@@The_journeyy never sprayed before however I’ll try get a picture over. Thanks bro and enjoy your weekend
One thing I forgot in this video was to mention after sanding the wheel before paint I gave the wheel a quick clean with an alcohol wipe
I touched on it in the shorter follow up video and put in a prompt in the video hope you saw it.
Once you throw the primer on you'll see how easy it is I look forward to seeing your results have a good weekend 🔥
did it start fading?
Man you did a great job . But i want to see the final art without the tape to see how sick they look ;)
I forgot to do that on these ones and got roasted for it 🤣 so I made a follow up video showing the wheels after a year, I also made another refurb video with the wheels off which I showed the final product for like 1 minute hope that helps and your keeping well 😅

If I go to a car wash will it wash it off?
If you don't do it properly and ignore everything in this video, yes hope that helps 😊
Great video! Just wanted to ask how long does the gloss last? Also, if you were to wash your car at a car wash would the gloss get washed away? I used plasti dip on the previous car that I owned and didn’t like how matte it looked. So I want to do a method like this that’ll give me a nice gloss.
Thanks Derick, It lasts as long as a good paint job does the process is the same as bodyshops use on car panels
Even if you were to use subpar gloss paint as long as you used a good 2k clear you'd still get a good gloss if you use good quality products then the results are even better my wheels still have the same gloss as the day they were painted
Plasti dip is definitely not the one I've heard nothing good about it 😁
@@The_journeyy thanks a lot I appreciate the response! I’ll definitely be doing this to my car!

You reckon it would be easier for me to just take the wheel off? Subscribed! 💪
I did a video doing it without the wheels on and I wouldn't say its any easier just better results maybe because you can reach more areas like the rear easier thanks for the support 👌
@@The_journeyy i think im just lazy! Cant be bothered covering all the panles and everything else up! 😆
Your not lazy it can be a bit of work so maybe in that case for you might be easier to do it with the wheels off the car 🥳🥳
Good job. Did any of the off spray get on your windshield?
Not at all
Is it alright to wash your vehicle after spray painting your rims? Will the paint peel or leak off
The advice goes "To best protect your car's new paint job, it's safe to avoid waxing for a few months. The ingredients in car wax could damage the paint if it is not 100% dry and settled. Experts recommend waiting 60-90 days before having your car waxed after a paint refresh". When it comes to cleaning them I wouldn't do it on the same day you've completed the job however you can wash them by hand with warm soapy water no without an issue. When it comes to Jetwashing I would stay away from that for the first 60-90 days as it doesn't matter how good the products you've used are if the paint isn't cured and you rush to jet wash it will destroy the paint. Once the paint is cured fully you can then have at it without any reservations
You can save some time by not masking the tire ,paint won’t stick to your tires it will come off while driving or wash off almost immediately
Thanks for the feedback :)
Great job why using the clear coat
😊
Looks great after, but doing it outside you will be suprised on how much over spray is landing on the car. I would of covered more of the car.
Thanks for the feedback Jimmie hope your well 😊

Hello Daniel thanks for the feedback, I didn't remove the locking wheel nuts I sanded them as well as the tyre and then painted them while still on, its on an option to take them off if you prefer that hope that helps

Damn I love CLKS
They're lovely cars and really nice to drive 👏
question to anyone giving input...assuming I sand very well (220 then 400 grit) and clean well and dry...I bought duplicolor green can self etching primer and duplicolor high performance wheel coating gloss black. Do these work together? IF I do a clear coat...do I ...
#1. apply the duplicolor clear or go for the 2k (harder more durable)? I read that 2K should only be used for certain paints.
#2. should I apply clear coat when still tacky 40-45 min after last paint coat or wait 3 or 4 hours
That's a really good question, I can only answer part of that but my suggestion would be to ask the people in the autobody shop if the 2k clear you got will work with your paints it should but good to double check
The two duplicolours should work I'd think since they're from the same brand I'd think they'd be compatible
#1 I'd check if the 2k is compatible as it will give you better results on the finish and strength
2# Some say you should throw the clear on after 40-45 minutes when its still tacky I used to do mine after an 1 hour but now I mix it up sometimes 45 mins sometimes 1 hour I've tried both and they work perfectly.
Sorry I couldn't help more with the questions 😊
Looks great. Did you have to use heat resistant paint?
Hi David thank you and for the wheels you don't have to, but if I was doing the calipers or engine cover I would hope that helps 😊
Hi I’m I right by saying 2x primer and 3x with gloss? Thanks
Hi Joe, 3x primer, 3x colour, 3x clearcoat 😁
Purpose of red scotch bright? Is it necessary if I’ve got sandpaper?
Can I use the green instead, I’ve got plenty of those.
Its great for scuffing the surface and things that are difficult to get to like bolts and yes it's necessary to prep the surface. I've got no idea I'm not sure what grit the green scotchbrite is have a look online it will say on there hope that helps 😊
Is it okay to spray paint over screw/bolts ?
Hi Zain yeah its okay to spray over them just treat them the same as any other metal surface and sand/scuff them as well 😁
Hi! How much of each can will I need? Thanks! :)
Hey Ryan I don't know for your wheels. The quantities I used for mine is in the description and these were 20 inch wheels I believe
@@The_journeyythank you!
Thank you for watching the video 👏
I’m about to spray my alloys but I have a question will the paint survive a tyre change after ?
If you use good products and put on three coats of 2k clear then yes
Can you update with a video to show how the paint hold up with driving on them. I’m interested in doing this. Thanks!
A few people have said the same thing I will make a short video of the wheels
The paint holds up very well just as it would from factory due to the 2k clearcoat if I had used 1k even throwing a stone might have chipped it. I'm dropping a POV of me respraying my VW wheels shortly so it will be easier to see the final product and the process I use more clearly hope your well 😊 and all the best with your upcoming paint job
The update video is up enjoy 😄
Did you do all 4 at the same time with 30 minute drying time intervals or did you do them one at a time with 30 minute intervals?
I sprayed all four and then waited 30 minutes after I finished spraying the last wheel
@@The_journeyy Ok cool thanks bro.
No worries glad I could help 😊
Don't you think that it would be much easier to do this with the wheels off the car ?
What's easy depends on what's easiest for the individual
Nice job bro.
Hi Lee thanks for the kind words dude hope your well 😊
nice i wanna try this :)
You should 😊 it's great fun I'm refurbishing my vw wheels soon and then spraying them gloss black soon
Awesome work mate, how long did you leave it before applying the ckear coat?
Thanks Scott appreciate the nice feedback, after doing the final paint coat, I waited 1 hour and then applied the clearcoat
@@The_journeyy tbh gloss black Rustoleum doesnt need clear coat
