- Hope you all are sliding into late spring / early summer in a GREAT way. Wanted to do this one for a while. A few recent comments sprung up on my Alice Cooper cover of "Go To Hell" and thought why the hell not try this one. Such a great song. I hold Neal Smith in high regard but wanted to have some fun and not lick for lick anything. So I used a live version of this with his current band (Glenn Sobel on drums). This approach is a bit more laid back than Glenn because (a) he's got so many f'n chops I don't know how he ever decides what to use and (b) being more sincere - as drummers, he and I would hear the approach differently. I did take on a few of his licks though (it was impossible not to LOL!) It was such fun to try and improvise without overdoing it. I admire Alice and his seemingly endless number of world class musicians along the way. Hope you all are wonderful!!!

Well I sure SURE appreciate the kind words. Yep, on this one I should have thrown in a foot cam. I use that angle on a number of tunes but I've gotten away from doing it on every one. 🤣🤣🤣 Man, he (Alice) had a rotating chair of drummers for a while but to Glenn Sobel's credit, he hasn't left the gig in what seems to be a decade. I always wondered why there was so much turn over and I guess it's because Alice used the best of the best but straight up - he has a dream like set up. It's a gig that someone would have had to pry from me. I wouldn't have been looking for bigger or better because Alice uses such incredible musicians and his show is such a first class deal bro. Myke buddy, I sincerely appreciate that you took the time to say that. I mean it. I'm not a guy that naturally learns a song lick for lick but being on here, it's always a balancing act. So on something like this where there isn't much of a game plan other than knowing a few fills that I was going to use, someone of your caliber taking the time to offer support is a blessing bro. 🙏🙏🙏 The cymbal choke idea came from listening to Sobel and not being able to know exactly what the hell he was doing LOL! Love this interpretation Trey! Lots of power & those monstrous triplet fills with the kicks woven in, executed with laser precision. The fill at 2:35 could be my fave -- the snare backed with the kicks. So simple and effective... just massive chops all over this whole thing! Well done my man! 🤘🤘
I had to hit it to see exactly what it was but that's a fun lick Mike. To this day, I love utilizing call back licks between the snare / toms and kick but doubling up on them is still also super fun. That is so crazy! 74 and he still maintains a touring schedule that would wear down cats well under half his age. He puts on a world class show to this day and I cannot compliment him enough for being the definition of professional. But like a lot of other people, I am taken back when I glance at the musicians he's had in his band along the way. WOW! I hope you are doing great and have an awesome weekend!!!

Holy crap!! In general the drum part on Billion Dollar Babies is (for lack of a better term) absolute killer. With that being said, you really nailed it!! I'm not a drummer so I absolutely wouldn't know for sure, but it definitely looks like a hard piece to get down.
What is happening my friend? Well, first - I appreciate you taking the time to comment and watch. I really do mean that. As for the drum part on this, I think you're spot on in saying it's not an easy deal. I think if anything, it's extremely unique. I don't have anything that comes to mind that reminds me of it drum wise. The original arrangement by Neal Smith is off the hook but to make that even cooler, it's awesome to hear how various drummers for Alice have approached this. Guys like Eric Singer and Glenn Sobel take it to different places and it's awesome Alice encourages that. So I do mean it when I tell you THANK YOU for watching and it's a pleasure to agree with ya on this my friend 🤘🤘🤘
@@TreyBDrums Absolutely!!! Coincidently, I actually saw Alice live a few months ago and got to hear Glen Sobel do this, he's a very excellent drummer and well. I hadn't picked up on that before but it's very cool to think about the fact that they all have kind of done their own variations of Neil Smith's arrangement.

Alice on YT isn't one that is going to get big views for drummers but reading stuff like you saying you might add it to a playlist or two - that makes it worth it. First and foremost, you don't know how humbling this is and how appreciative I am. I have been watching more recent footage of Alice and as always, his band smokes and his show is top notch. He's had so many drummers that I've considered influences. Singer, Ken Mary, Degrasso and now Glen Sobel. His band is a dream set up in the sense that if you can say you played with him, you could say you made it as a musician. Sorry for blabbing. Oh dude, there are a number of things that came to mind. Ultimately I'll enjoy whatever you choose but based off the total kickass Hold The Line cover, any chance you'd take a crack at a Porcaro era live album? We are from the same school on this whole thing man. There are songs where I really do try (hard) to present an end result that's in line with the original but it's just not who I am. I like to stray within reason just because it's fun. And to be honest, it's kind of important to always prioritize that because those songs are the ones that let us be individuals. It’s like thinking with the same brain lol definitely took the words out of my mouth… and always, I have difficulties accepting compliments..By all means I definitely appreciate it if that makes sense…it’s an honour… there are so many great drummers on all four parts of the globe that I’ve been lucky to chat with and become friends with..I’ve had a good chance to take a look around the past number of months, Long story short I had a pretty good fall in October ,x-rays twice showed negative not to mention having the pain and the shortage of breath.. finally I got fed up with no answers I had a bone scan this week revealing that I had three fractured ribs..go figure.? At one point I’m pissed off to the max on the other hand I’m finally happy that I have closure knowing that the people that thought it was in my head were wrong…It’s been a lot of mental and body stress for the last 5-6 months…Like I said long story short… I’m gonna heal up and fucking kick some ass really soon… there’s many players on here that inspire me, i’ll be using it to get back in the saddle Cheers brother..🥁👊😎🤟

Fantastic! - I auditioned for Alice in 1989 Trash the World Tour - Eric Singer got the Job - I jammed 9 songs with Alice that afternoon. Trash, Poison, 18 etc. and this BDB. Had I played it like this I would have had that job. Brother this is sick! Your a fucking Monster!

Being as transparent and honest as I can be, that set up has always appeared to be my dream gig. Even when I was really young, I'd hear that different cats were in and out and I always thought if I could ever be so fortunate, I'd never move LOL! But in fairness, he had a number of cats that went on to do successful bands. But the list of players like Eric Singer, Ken Mary, Jimmy DeGrasso, Tommy Clufettos, Glen Sobel (and none of this even touches on Alice starting out with somebody as unique and awesome as Neal Smith).......that's amazing man. @@TreyBDrums My Brother, I must say it was totally surreal, I was in awe, Alice was an Icon to me, I like you dreamed the dream. I was surprised to find him appear in a white t-shirt , blue jeans and canvas tennis shoes. again, surprisingly small in stature maybe 150 lbs? still he was an Idol, I performed well, the audition was for 3 songs only, they had a video crew filming and I was calling out old tracks like my body and stuff from zipper catches skin, hell, stuff the band did not even know. I am sad to report I do not know who the other players were, I had a tunnel vision that day. I tryed to get the video of that day (never did) I would have to jog my memory Tobi ? was manager? neslon was assistant? I forget? I could probably look/research more specifics , BRO I swear I hit it off with Alice I thought I had the gig for sure, I mean we did 9 songs not 3 , he was into it, they took my demo stuff, bio, pics etc, like I was important, Poison was on the MTV at this time i think the guy in the video was not the studio drummer, i think he played later with Vince Neil Solo (Steve Stevens and Robbie Crane) a bit of a blur, I have ahad a Charmed Life , moved from PA to LA in 1984 (I was 21 then) best thing ever, the scene their was off the chain, I lived and toured as a tech for POISON... in 1991 was down the hall from KISS while they were tracking hot in the shade. I got a billion stories, reminds me the Keyboard player for ALICE was living in Glendale I demo 3 songs there in his home studio , you can find them on my page here (Restless Heart, Friends Forever and Girl Talk) all 1st take on 2" tape. ok side track, back to Alice audition they had a kit I just brought my pedals and sticks - some airplane hanger in the valley, got set up Alice came in we shook hands , I was like in my mind "I can't believe this is really happening" the whole time I was relax but still like I am in the presence of greatness - (was like that for 4 months w/Kiss) Eric Carr was a Beautiful Human so nice unlike Gene or Paul he gave me Paiste 3000's a Throne... Gene was always half a dick (self proclaimed asshole) Poison was totally different we kinda grew up together in PA - I think ALICE wrote and recorded the song
"Poison" in part to capitalize on the current success of Poison the Band - that was prevalent back then, I could reference Motley Crue (theatre of pain outfits and smokin in the boys room) all ripped off from Poison for real. Guns and Roses etc. welcome to the Jungle Axl had the puffy hair. you know if you were lucky enough to be in LA sunset strip circa 1980's - what a Party!!! Good Good TImes. My Mom always says I should write a book. ok Thanks for the Energy.. I think the show was at the wiltern theater maybe inglewood i had like 8th row comps and Eric was impressive. he could catch Alice' hat on cue. whatever I am not bitter, maybe saved my life - everything happens for a reason. What up Tony? Well, it's a combo of factors - some of which have stopped cooperating with me as of late. First is good mics and a good DAW, good interface with good preamps and good mics. I do believe in all that. But i most certainly use sampled sounds and blend them with the raw sounds from the direct, overhead and room mics. Happy too look at doing a vid explaining it Tony 🤘🤘🤘🤘

I love it! I actually want to buy a drumset but i live in an apartment so i don't know. And i've heard that electric drums sucks...
What up, what up? Well, I've got an E-kit still around here and when I was in an apartment it was my only option. I honestly didn't mind it. I can say I prefer an acoustic kit by a fair margin but the e-kit feel was fun to practice with. And at that time, the midi train was rolling hard so studio sessions I was doing were on a TON of electronic kits. I remember going to Nashville in '12 or '11 and I was stoked. Studio was beautiful and it was one of those "WOW" moments. Big drum room with great ceilings. Long story short, I ended up in the control room playing on a Roland kit and they sampled every last hit LOL!!! I hope ya get it lined out and get a way to jam my friend
