No Chod, Neal Smith is the drummer on this, from the original Alice Cooper group. Since Alice's solo career there have been different drummers, but Neal "the octopus" Smith is the original and is responsible for this epic drum led track. The British singer Donovan shares vocals with Alice on this one too. So happy to see your enthusiasm for this track and the band's music. High level musicianship indeed! Great reaction.
Absolutely true, every bit of it. At the time the musicianship was top shelf. Regards
Dennis Dunaway is the king on bass 🙏Glen Buxton Rest In Peace ☮️
Did not know Donovan did vocals on this track with Alice, very cool; and I hear him clearly now, how did I never notice that after hearing this 1,001 times?
Wow...interesting that Donovan shares vocals on this. Always loved this tune, and would never have thought about it. But I hear him now. 🙂
@@carolyndavis1045 Right? Donovan was a huge influence on many musicians, he was just off the mainstream radar, will hear this song different from now on, how cool is that?! "Generation Landslide" is the track from this album that ties the whole theme together, once you "get it", it's brilliant, Alice hid his deeply social message right in plain sight, just under the surface of his shock-rock-schlock
Drummer on this album was Neil Smith of the original Alice Cooper band.
Neil Smith. He would call Keith Moon up and ask him how many drums he had. Whatever Keith said. Neil would always have at least one more. Alice tells that story. Great song based off the drum riff.
My favorite Alice Cooper song!!! Never gets reacted to! Congrats! 👏👍🤟
Awesome Alice Cooper song!! Just top shelf !!
Also of note is the special guest Donovan providing the vocals (stereo left). Donovan was sometimes called the UK's answer to Bob Dylan, very folk influenced with touches of psychedelia. To have him alongside AC was sheer brilliance, and this cut is one of the band's highlights for sure. Thanks for the reaction.
Saw Alice in concert in 1976. Amazing!
I believe i seen him in philly with blondie that year🤘❤️
AWWWsome so did I, Boston Garden same year.... Rock on friend....
Me too, i was 12 and still feel same, much of my personality is from this original band, humor, cynic etc ❤️
Boy that bass and drums are right locked in on this song. The original Alice Cooper group was killer, both with the album and the musicianship.
Second vocalist on this track was Donovan, a UK pop star at the same time as the Beatles.
Alice Cooper's album "Billion Dollar Babies" has a lot of great stuff on it, I really like "Hello Hooray", "Unfinished Sweet" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy", this was awesome, thanks so much for this reaction!
This album is golden, I picked up mine when it came out about 45 years ago. Still have that album, still listen to it often and still at the top of my favorite albums all time.
Billion Dollar babies! Best glam rock concert to this day I’ve ever seen. It sounded just like The album unbelievable🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
First concert I ever attended. Billion Dollar Babies Tour. I was 13. My Mom took me. God Bless her!
That's a cool Mom!
@@TheGreatGig73 She was ahead of her time. A Pink Floyd and Santana fan before they became popular.
Donovan (Mellow Yellow) accompanying Alice with the vocals. Awesome song.
Drummer Neal Smith played with Alice Cooper from 1968 to 1974. He also played on two tracks ("Born to Rock" and "That Summer Night") from Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser's Flat Out album in 1982 (guitarist from B.Ö.C.).
Just saw Alice Cooper and his new band on September 7, there is video on You Tube, and he is STILL effing amazing. I saw him in 1978 and 1983, and so I was expecting a let down in vocal quality, or something. He looked and sounded as good now as he did the first time I saw him. Different band, but STILL high quality, and lots and lots of props and weird characters running around the stage. And he did play Billion Dollar Babies. As Cosmic Cat points out, that is Neil Smith on the drums, along with Glenn Buxton and Michael Bruce on Guitars and Dennis Dunaway on Bass, and of course Alice Cooper, aka Vincent Damon Furnier, on Vocals.
Dennis Dunaway, The Bass player frickin' rocks on this album.
Guitarists Glen Buxton and Michael Bruce both used Gibson SGs for the album. Three additional guitarists (including longtime band friend Mick Mashbir and New York-based session musicians Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter) were retained to cover for Buxton, who suffered from alcohol use disorder-related pancreatitis throughout the sessions.
Buxton died of complications from pneumonia at a hospital in Mason City, Iowa, on October 19, 1997, age 49. He had recently spent time visiting and playing music with two of his Alice Cooper bandmates and longtime friends, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith.
the drummer on this neil smith had this most incredible slinger land drum kit with mirror panels on them for the billion dollar babies tour in 1973
A great old Alice Cooper song is "Be my Lover." From 1971. It's so damn good. Take a listen.
ruclips.net/video/QtmHAn50uFo/видео.html already done it
think he done the whole killer album in order
Pretty sure he reacted to the entire Killer album with that song on it.
Alice Cooper Group-“The band to drive a stake through the heart of the peace & love generation” were originally misunderstood & often reviled & band by listeners in their early years.
Who dug them? Fran Zappa was a patron.
BUT YOU WANT SERIOUS CRAZY?!
Groucho Marx shows up one time & wants to go backstage & meet them-which BLEW their minds LOL!
Groucho LOVED THEM, telling the band they were basically modern vaudeville! Groucho asks can he bring some friends to see them?! Band says YES!!
So a bit later Groucho shows up With MAE WEST, JACK BENNY & other old vaudeville legends…who LOVED THEM!!
Eventually Alice Cooper found their audience in the hardcore Detroit scene before exploding!
For my money, and having lived through it personally, that opening 15 seconds before he sings marked the end of the 1960s and beginning of the 1970s. I’ve seen Alice 15-16 times. Always has a tight band, always looks the part most convincingly (for any track he happens to be singing), and he is always the victim in his pranks, stunts and mis-deeds! Many of his songs are quite humorous if you listen carefully. 😎
Chod hope you do the entire album like you did with "Killer". It's another classic. The original band with Neil Smith on drums.
Yes, next.
" The Ballad of Dwight Frye" (71)
Truly haunting !!
About the horrot actor of the same name who played Renfieild in the original Dracula film (1931)
This song is amazing and there is a lot more incredible songs from Alice Cooper, so keep bringing more 🙂
Alice is a genius. His Flush the Fashion album is the greatest gem of an album I’ve ever heard.
The song was released on the Billion Dollar Babies album 1973.
It was also later part of the 12 song lineup on Alice Cooper's Greatest Hits album in 1974.
It was the first cassette tape that I ever had, and boy did I wear it out. Every song from Cooper's Greatest Hits was awesome.
And BTW, I still have that same cassette tape nearly 50 years later, and it's still sounds good.
Love that he had Donovan swapping vocals on this song. Definitely unique.
A very talented band. Dennis Dunaway was the bassist. He played lead guitar lead riffs on a 4 string bass. I saw the Billion Dollar Babies concert, and it stands as the BEST concert that I ever saw.
The original Alice Cooper band's fourth, and final, album with producer Bob Ezrin. It went to #1 in both the UK & US. Ezrin sprayed a poppier sheen onto the Cooper's tales of terror and torment this time around. Neal Smith is the drummer here, whilst Donovan duets with Alice on this title track. It's utterly fabulous, as is the whole LP. Solo Alice has kept the song in his touring repertoire for decades.
It would be great if you could react to all the album - as you did with *Killer* - but failing that, perhaps dip into one or two more songs. *Elected* & *I Love The Dead* are well worth checking out.
For me, had to see Alice 7 or 8 times including the original band In the early 70s. Always a great and sometimes wild show in the old days but he still has a great band to this very day and still has a killer show, saw him in 2019 with Halestorm, Lzzy Halestorm came out for his encore of Schools Out and they blew the roof off that place. Old men can still Rock! Try The Ballad of Dwight Fry next, one of his very best songs. Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Went to this concert in 73 still my top 3 concerts of all time mostly because I’ve never seen a rock show that was mixed with a costume play before and they sounded just like the album it was insane Oh and the album was number 1 in American that year. Thank you. Be blessed
How old were you? I was 13. Saw it in Minnesota. What a first concert!
Just for grins, if you don’t mind telling us, what were your other two favorites? Between my age and the decades that have passed, I can no longer name a favorite. I have been to hundreds of shows and found something to like about each one of them. Usually, I learned something new or had a changed opinion about something. And so many of the shows incorporated a big surprise of some kind. It was a blast!
I went to his concert a few years ago and I was fully expecting him to be all old and stuff but he was fully doing all the theatrics and getting his head cut off on stage and dancing with a blow up doll in cold ethyl absolutely amazing show
You should totally react to the entire Love it to Death album, as well as the School’s Out and Billion Dollar Babies album. All fantastic albums!
It looks like Neal Smith was the drummer on this one
YEAH CHOD, IT WAS ( NEAL SMITH ) ON THIS 73 MEGA SELLER ALBUM 😊 ALICE WAS WAYYYYY WAYYYYY BEFORE ( MARILYN MANSON ) WANT A FEW FROM THIS GREAT ALBUM : ELECTED, I LOVE THE DEAD, GENERATION LANDSLIDE, AND OF COURSE THE HUGE HIT ( NO MORE MISTER NICE GUY ) 😊 TAKE CARE!
I loved being a teenager in the 70s 👍. This stuff was coming at you all the time. Excellent song, great band.
Generation landslide is a banger 🤘
LA-LA LA-LA-LA !
I'm 63 and bought this album back in the day when it first came out. It came with a little poster that I put up on my bedroom wall next to the one that came with Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of the Moon and another that came with Frank Zappa's 200 Motels. I give that background because it wasn't till today that I found out from reading these comments that Donovan shares vocals on this tune! Wow. Although, it may be that I knew at one time and just forgot. Anyway, thanks for the reaction & bringing back some good old memories.
Alice has so many great songs but this might be their best.
This one put him on every players radar back in the day. Been wondering when any reactioner would ever get around to this rock killer. Personal fav from this album. Saw this tour and another “one for the ages,” both tour and song of the same name called, Black Widow. The song was part dialogue by the horror master himself, Vincent Price. This was Coopers’ first experimentation with upping his game and his image into the scarier version of first gen Alice. Lots of stage theatrics to go with the Black Widow Tour. Would love to hear that one soon. 🤘😎
Local legend has it that Alice and the band were at the Local Kmart in Pontiac, Michigan. The friends had been partying. Went to the Kmart and were goofing around in the toy section. Somebody pulled a head off one of the dolls then threw it at someone else and everyone joined in the fun, until the police were called. Several people including Alice Cooper were arrested for disorderly conduct. So this is where the song came from.
I saw the welcome to my nightmare tour of 1975, at the Tony Hulman Civic center in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Then in 1989 at the old Lakewood
Aphtateater in Atlanta, Georgia.
Both times were Great! now He be at
Chattanooga, Tennessee coming up soon...Check out from the album called Killer, the Song ( You Drive Me Nervous)..released 1971..freaking Awesome!
Alice Cooper's best album hands down. Quite possibly his/their most iconic song. BTW, that's Donovan speaking and singing with Alice. What a great choice of persons to do that! They had a great band with, as you mentioned, drummer, bassist, and both guitarists.
March 15, 1977, Western Australia, Perth Entertainment Centre: "Welcome To My Nightmare" Tour...
My seat was right up the back of the stadium, by the time the second song ended, I was in the pit up front 😏
Still the best concert I have ever been to.
love your reactions the playing and not just the songs man
I've seen Alice 13 times, always amazing.
One of my favorite Alice tunes is on this record.. “Generation Landslide”, an anthem from those times for me and my friends.
Alice Cooper combined music and theatre in his/their music. I was 14 years-old when this album came out and me and my adolescent guy friends absolutely loved it! Several of us went to seem him that year on his concert tour to promote this album. They were great in concert, and he was walking around the stage singing with boa constrictor around his neck and then...he "chopped off his own head" with a Guillotine. For a Bunch of 14 year-old guys, it doesn't get much better than that 😀!
Love the herky-jerky rhythm to this one. Theres so much to hear in his catalog, the best stuff are deep album cuts that weren't singles. For more Neal Smith greatness, check out "Halo Of Flies".
You finally did one of Alice's hits. I don't know if you noticed there was two singers singing together on this. Alice and Rock superstar Donovan. Alice's bigger songs were I'm Eighteen, Schools Out and No More Mr. Nice Guy.
Only Women Bleed sold well and got lots of airplay. So many songs I like but trying to limit my comments here to the huge hits.
@@tonydelapa1911 Exactly. Not that big a fan of Only Women Bleed though. Most of the songs Wilburn has listened to aren't on my short list.
@@debjorgo I agree with that except that I was pleased he did the Killer album front to back.those are especially good songs to see done live. Let’s face it, the catalog is huge. One of my favorite albums is From the Inside, which gets very little attention
@@tonydelapa1911 I consider myself a big fan, but I only have 6 albums plus the Mascara & Monsters greatest hits album. Just looking at the track names, I'd forgotten those songs were all on the Killer album. I have Killer, Love it to Death, School's Out, Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to My Nightmare and Goes to Hell. I also have Guitar Rock Classics that has the excellent live version of Eighteen ("Mom and Dad's got me drinking whiskey, alright!"). I'd say Billion Dollar Babies would probably be the best one to do the whole album with.
This is his best song love with his three guitarists!
That is Alice Cooper duetting with the singer Donovan. This was recorded during the lennon lost weekend and Lennon, Nilsson and more were all hanging out partying together.
HEYYYYYY, YOU NEVERRRR PAUSE A VIDEO, WHAT IS THATTTT CHOD!!! LMAO 😊 YEAH ALICE WAS INSANE IN THE 70'S MY FRIEND! 😊
Alice Cooper from1970-1974, great! awesome band, waaaaaaaay underrated. This album and Killer are up there with the best.
Great song. Great album. Great group. One of my prized possessions is an autographed pic of Neal Smith. 🥁 Nice guy.
One of my favourite Albums and songs by Alice. I am surprised there isn't more reactions on RUclips to Alice as he has such a huge catalogue of great songs and is so respected by other musicians of all kinds including Bob Dylan ...
Alice Cooper has a brand new cd/dvd combo called live from the astroturf in October with the original band. Heard some snippets. Sounds awesome
The next Alice song you should react to is Hello Hooray from this same album. This is my favourite Alice Cooper album, as it contains a whole bunch of really kickass songs. Pretty much every song on this album is a rock classic, even the deep cuts like Unfinished Sweet, Raped and Freezin', Mary Ann, Sick Things and especially Generation Landslide ... fantastic song!!! Of course the major hits are astonishing, like the title track, Hello Hooray, Elected, No More Mr. Nice Guy and the monumental I Love the Dead. What an album!!!
Hello Hurray is a cover. Just Collins door the straight forward version. I like it. Big Alice fan here.
So many great bands back then. We saw them at a festival in '72 when Grand Funk had to cancel. The raceway was full of pot smoke but the local sheriff didn't care. He wasn't about to arrest 50k people.
You made an amazing point. The musicians of the old were so dedicated to their instrument and put in countless hours to master their instrument. I believe there are very few in the current generation who are willing to put in that hard work. I know I am sounding like an old fogey…..but, I really believe that is the case.
ALICE COOPER-STEVEN
his finest rock opera 👌
AC was a fave growing up in the 70's. Had this album, Schools Out and Fave "Love it to Death".. Original member Dennis Dunaway is now in the band "Blue Coupe" along with the 2 brothers from Blue.O.Cult.. They play both bands hits, saw them last year.. TopNotch
No More Mr Nice Guy, Alice was the man in 1973, l just turned 17, People nowdays dont realize how cutting edge this sh-- was. back ten .
Neal Smith kicking some serious ass on the skins on this tune Chod. Great tune. Nice reaction. The difference back in the day was that these guys HAD to be good because there was soooo much competition. This was the age of all the great bands from the 70’s so you had to be good if you were gonna get played on the radio and sell some albums.
TITLE TRACKKKKKK CHOD, RIGHT ON!!! 😊 THE BIGGGG HIT ON THIS MEGA ALBUM WAS ( NO MORE MISTER NICE GUY ) 😊
Finally someone reacts to billion dollar babies. I used to play this in my room all the time and knew all the words to it. My favorite part was quote we go dancing nightly in the Attic while the Moon is rising in the sky
Neil Smith is the drummer on these original line-up albums.
Dunaway's bass lines are just sick... amazing tune.
"Luney Tune" would be a GREAT reaction. All you Alice Cooper fans know what I'm talking about. Very underrated track.
Absolutely. Public Animal #9 too.
And the lyrics having a meaningful message that still resonates, "Generation Landslide" explains the idea further; more generations of Billion Dollar Babies born every day
I saw the original band in the 1970's as they toured Canada (Regina, my teenage years 😂).
Got to see Alice Cooper in concert about 86 or 87 . If you want the other side of Alice Cooper , then try Only Women Bleed !!
Love me some Alice Great album 🤘❤️. But welcome to my nightmare is a must
thank you! such an intense song from the original Alice Cooper Band. Alice went solo in 1975 with Welcome To My Nightmare. its a great album too but the original line up will always be the real Alice Cooper to me.
Very cool song, definitely one of his best. The drumming is fire.
Oh, the cover, you should have seen the original vinyl album cover! It was like a big wallet, and there was a giant billion dollar bill inside, and photos of the band that were like cards that you could pry loose and collect… So exciting for an eleven year old! And there were songs like I Love the Dead, that really shocked my parents XD It's also amazing when you go back and listen to i now how well produced it was, and how fresh it still sounds. Great reaction, and thanks for the reminder!
I saw him during this tour.
John Speare left the band before they were called Alice Cooper and before they got a recording contract.
The whole album is fantastic.
The story I hear about this song was at the time the record labels were telling their top acts that their next record was automatically a gold record. Alice's answer was Billion Dollar Babies. Jethro Tull was Thick As A Brick which he didn't think anyone would buy. Herb Albert quit recording and others failed. They dropped the practice not to long after.
9:05 that is why older bands had their own sound.
All original Alice Cooper Bands albums are top notch.....
New room is cool. This album is awesome overall. I had it when I was 11. Warped my perspective.
Best Alice tune!
The best Alice cooper long play.
That's Donovan doing the supporting vocals.
Best drumming on any Alice Cooper song is the closing few minutes on 'Wish You Were Here' from 75's 'Alice Cooper Goes to to Hell' - it's absolutely amazing! (Billion Dollar Babies is my favourite AC album though!)
Sorry, I got the year wrong- I believe it was '76
Because 70's has always had the best rock bands. Plain and simple. Great job brother.
You are SO FREAKING COOL with your BOUNDRYLESS MUSICAL EXPLORATIONS!! 👊🎉🍻
LOVE that you’re diving into the best of the Alice Cooper group Brother!!!
One of my first records as a kid in the 70s! RADICALLY changed my music listening trajectory!! From AM pop to a WHOLE DIFFERENT WORLD!!
They were MUCH more than theatrics! GREAT arrangements & musicianship!! Always original & fearless!
PLEASE do yourself a favor! DIVE DEEPER AND CHECK OUT “HELLO HURRAY” “SICK THINGS” “GENERATION LANDSLIDE” & THE ALL TIME CLASSIC “ELECTED”!!
Hell yes ! Been requesting this one on many channels forever. Just found you and this alone is worth me hitting that subscribe button !!
Hey brother, yes love the drums in this. It appears that Neal Smith is the drummer on Billion Dollar Babies. Peace
you're in for a real treat!!
Donavan was perfect for vocals with Alice on this one, pure genious
Big Neal Smith on drums...a real bad ass!
Drummer is Neal Smith.
Donovan had some great hits. Mellow Yellow, Sunshine Superman and Atlantis, to name a few.
Hurdy Gurdy Man was a great one too.
@@tonydelapa1911 Yes. Very much so!
A little trivia, Alice played golf and John Dayle a pro golfer came to him for pointers because Alice's handicap was 1
Might be my favorite Alice song.
Wow! That Kicks Bricks. More A.C.-Thanks
Alice Cooper is on tour right now. Not sure where you are but check the tour schedule on line and if Alice is anywhere within 500 miles of you get a fucking ticket and go see Alice Cooper live.
There are a number of epic songs on that album . Thanks for playing . My have to change my ring tone from Ted Nugent Strangle hold to this (For a short time :) )
My favorite AC tune🔥✌🤘
