Very interesting
glad you enjoyed these little fish :)
amazing fish
Thanks for watching, glad you like them :)
They look amazing in a big group like you have there Colin. Gorgeous.
Yes they do, they sparkle in a planted tank :)
Very good your aquarium and fish tetras. This my favorite. I wish you all the best my friend Colin.
thankyou sir :)
Stunning tank. Im in the planning stages of a 250usg community tank, and a school of about 35 to 45 purple emperor tetras are definitely going to be part of the stock. Maybe more if i dont have any other schooling fish in there. There will be lots of fairy corys as well, which are my favorite corys. Probably 20 or so of those. Then a few lemon longfin bristlenose plecos.
sounds awesome!!!
Very tempted to get some.
Well worth it 😊👍🏻
They are Nice
Yes they are,..........shiny blue colours always look good next to live plants :)
They look very beautiful in this setup
Yes, they are very beautiful little fish :)
Never kept these before but I was thinking about putting together a Star Wars themed tank and I'm considering them for that. This video made me want them a little bit more.
Emperor Palpatine Tetras.........LOL :)
They are one of the prettiest fresh water fish in my opinion. My tank is full of x-ray tetras neon's and phantom tetras . The ex ray tetras aren't that amazing to look at but they are extremely Hardy and tolerate many water conditions . That's why I keep them , but one day I'd like to have a bunch of these.
I really love the Red and the Black Phantom tetras, and also the Rosy tetras, they all mix really well with Emperors, and they all love to flare and display to each other :)
Love the way betta is living with other fish in your community tank mate.
They were born and raised together in this tank :)
@@AussieAquatic that's so cool mate, its such a nice community tank
Thanks for info, i already bought 6 of then
good choice :)
Ive just got 8 of these, and I will add more, but I do have one small problem with them, and that's that I let the shop pick them out, I have 5 or 6 males, and they're fighting a lot, and causing a little damage to each other. Maybe it's just a dominance thing, they've only been there a few days, but I would've expected that to be settled on day 1, so actually I'm thinking that it's more about fighting over the females because there aren't enough to go around! So all I'd add is that you should probably make sure you get more females than males.
the good news is that no real damage will happen, just some hurt pride, and it will calm down once the big boys take control :)
@@AussieAquatic unfortunately that was not true for me, now I only have 3 of the males left, they killed the females first, which I think was because there were twice as many males, so the females ended up being harassed. but then 3 males were killed as well. I will add another 5 females now that I've upgraded the tank. I think an 80cm long was just too small for these guys. It was very planted, but that did not seem to make a difference...
😳overkill?@@troublingleaf
Just got these guys and they have sooo much more personality compared to my cardinal tetras it’s amazing to look at
The smaller tetras are very often the fish that don't seem to do much other than move from side to side in the tank, but the larger tetras like the Emperors, like to show off :)
@@AussieAquatic Show off isn’t even the word 😂🤣 they’re like little people lol got a community 80 gallon before I added them my white cloud minnows were the bullies as soon as I added these guys within a week all the minnows calmed down. I was shocked 🤣. Now every time I even go close to the tank they immediately swim to me love it gonna get some more!
These tetras are awesome but I've never seen them in any of the fish shops where I live. In a few weeks I'll be setting up a 36 gallon and want to do a species only tank but can't decide what fish to use. 👍
Nice size tank. That should look fantastic with your skills 💚💚
I havent seen these around either in the states
@@Trivedi_Tuesdays it would be worth asking in the stores to see if the wholesalers have them.
Checkout Tristans Tropical fish in Wisconsin, he ships awesome service.
i have a 5 foot tank and have 2 emperors. The male chases most of the fish eg patties, neons etc. I'm going to get some more and see if this stops.
That would fix it. 4 -6 more. 👍👍
Can they go with rosy barbs and glowlight danios?
I have a heavily planted tank with a lot of moss and ferns.
They would be perfect.
Hi Collin lsay. Your post on William lastest song hoping you are both keeping well
Hi Susan, thankyou for your kind thoughts, 2020 is a crazy year alright, you too :)
Nice set up, have you ever found the emperor tetra fin nipping the betta? I am wanting some of these tetra but I have a betta and everything I've read suggests that they are fin nippers.
I'm happy to say they are not fin-nippers, although they do patrol the area they lay eggs and chase fish away, which is common for many breeding fish. My Bettas have no problem with them :)
@@AussieAquatic that's great. Currently I have a betta, cardinal tetra, harlequin rasbora and some corys. I guess once the harlequin rasbora have dwindled I will get some emporer tetra. Thanks again
I currently have 12 Emperor Tetras along with other fish. Is it better to have a circulation fan for a current or do they do good without? I have a 75 gallon with 2 sponge filters in a moderate planted tank.
Your tank looks great by the way.
Great question. The sponge filters are very capable to maintain a healthy tank, even though there might not be lots of water flow. The fish don't need to have currents to swim against, but one benefit of having good water flow is to help circulate heat around the tank for even temperatures.
Colin Barsby, I do have 2 circulation fans that I turn on one at a time every once in a while just to move the water some. I did have a HOB, but wanted to try the sponge filters. Still fairly new, especially with live plants.
@@browncrcb OK, since you have the circulation pumps already, I would definitely keep one of them running, it does have benefits.
Colin Barsby, where would be the best place to put fan? I currently have one in upper right front corner, blowing to back left.
I have 2 heaters in both back corners and both sponge filters in front of heaters. Is there a way to send you pictures to get any recommendations?
Thanks for your replies.
Did you get your emperor tetras from a LFS or ordered somewhere online? Yours seem to be more colorful. After watching your video I really want to get some but discouraged about getting dull colored ones
Mine are LFS bought, and all tetras have less colour in the selling tanks in a store.
My fish are settled in to the display tank, the plant background helps colours, and, I have a light shining into the tank as I film my fish videos that reflects extra colour into the camera. 🙂
@@AussieAquatic Is it true that in low light, the purple hues stand out more, and in bright light, it makes the fish appear more yellow?
@@AussieAquatic also what do you think is a good male:female ratio? I would like to breed them in groups
@@Kapybaraaa the light is mostly about the angle you are looking at the fish to see the best colours
@@Kapybaraaa more females than males is best for peace, the males will flare and chase other males the more you have.
Nice, lives to be 5 years old and spawns all the time... Sounds like a source of unlimited fish 😂
Also is this your redtailshark at 1:01? He looks very skinny, might want to keep an eye on / treat that.
RTS is 6 years old and has had a good life starring in many videos, but time catches everyone :)
What are your parameters for these fish? They're gorgeous fish and I would definitely love to try and spawn these fish in a community tank.
Hi Yanni, where I live the water is very clean and soft, so I increase the GH up to 100 - 180ppm and they still spawn. PH is 6.8 - 7 temperature is 26 degrees Celsius.
@@AussieAquatic That's awesome! Do you think they breed because of the thick cover of the plants or because of the water parameters? Do you condition them with live foods?
How two fighters in same tank getting along? Are they attacking other fish at nighttime?
These two fighters grew up from eggs together and have never been apart, they do have lots of space in this 35 gal tank. They are not aggressive to other fish in this tank :)
@@AussieAquatic Nice
@@AussieAquatic I love this so much! It is so fascinating! Absolutely beautiful ❤️
How is going on with te siamese algae eater? Isn't it agressive? I have two and became a bit agresive and my tetras stay hidden in the grass. Should take away my algae eaters?
How big is your tank?
@@AussieAquatic around 1.20m Long 30 gallons
@@DanielFortiz that's big enough.
Tetras are not bothered about being chased, small fish are used to being food for larger fish, and they can swim away pretty fast. They won't get hurt. Do you have Chinese Algae eaters? Or Siamese Algae eaters?
@@AussieAquatic I have pair of adult siamese, I've watched chasing them, I think they became territorial and dunno If this affects my tetras too
Do you have any fry that survive to adulthood?
Yes, it seems the majority do, even though I'm sure many of the eggs are being eaten by the other fish.
Would you ever mix them with goldfish?
If the water was warm enough
Can u keeep these tetras with shrimp??
yes you can, all fish will nibble on baby shrimp if they can, so lots of thick live plants will let the shrimp grow happily.
How many emperor tetras can I have in my 20 gallon?
a good number would be 6 :)
@@AussieAquatic Since I have a Fluval 107 and a Tidal 35 in my aquarium, would I be able to get 10?
And specifically the Purple Emperor Tetras.
@@OKittenPlayz 10 is no problem 🙂👍🏻
@@AussieAquatic Oh good!! My favorite color is actually purple so I'm very happy about this!
My 10 emperor tetras are bullying each. The males chase each other and two females are hiding and losing color. All the other fish get along neon tetras, platies, and beta.
the bullying is actually the males ready to breed. The males are trying to claim a space for themselves so they can invite a female into their spawning area. The females will quickly enter the zone, lay eggs and then swim away.
These Fishs is egypcian
Wait 2 male betta in the same tank?
Yes, there is a story to it 🙂
@@AussieAquatic - Is it that two male brood fry, if raised together and introduced at some
point into a community tank will tolerate one another?
@@luciancorvus9992 mostly yes, and plenty of tank space to chill out.

I can't keep emperors with my cardinal and diamond, they keep attacking my other fisk, lucky my diamond tetra are quite pretty
I'm very surprised to hear that. I'm wondering what size tank that is?
@@AussieAquatic Thanks for the reply, My tank is 30cm cube with only 6 Diamonds tetra, 11 Cardinals Tetra and 2 Otocinclus, my emperor tetra attacks all the fish in the tank, the tank is well planted, with twin LED lights, UV light, chiller, CO2, auto fish feeder, but since I now kept the emperor tetra separately, the emperor tetra has been attacking each other, nibbling the tail and fins, one died today, and another has it's tail all nibbled off.
@@kms108 How many emperor tetras did you have?
@@luke2320 thank, I only have diamond and carina now, I have more diamond now, my adult diamond had babies.
@@kms108 what happened to the emperor tetras
