Love it when you give the scientific names of the fish. You're my favorite RUclips aquarist.
Woops! Forgot to hit publish! Sorry it is late guys- been one of those weekends!

Looking forward to an updated video when they are all colored up! When I saw them at my LFS a long time back, they were pale and I remember thinking that's not very purple/now I see it takes them a while to color up. As always, love all your videos! Thanks! Always interested in Purple Fishes as that's my fave color.
Lovely species. I like the iridescence of the dark blue hue of these fish, compare the the Palmeri ones.
Beautiful species. Versatile and easy to breed! 👍👍👍
What a striking lateral stripe!
Really love these fish! I keep these "seasonally" ie - for six months they get higher temps and tannins , followed by six months of clear water and a lower temp. Using this method i find they retain that deep purple sheen and white belly. They literally glow! Also in the clear water stage i give them plenty of live food. I recommend keeping them in a shoal of 12 -24 in as big tank as possible. They make the best dither fish for some of the larger shy cichlids too.
It's like you're reading my mind! I've been wanting to find these for my heavily planted tank! Can't wait for them to get out of QT--hopefully, you'll have chilis still, too!
Stunning fish!
Pretty! And one I've never seen before, thanks!
They are pretty!❤🐠🍀
And now I want these.
Love that shirt!! Go Flyers (from a Pittsburgher). And wonderful fish!
I just bought two for my heavily planted 10G tank. I am keeping them with Ember Tetras, Endler Guppies, Celestrial Pearl Danios and Shrimp. I couldn't fit any more than two but they seem happy and probably one of my friendliest fish.
That is so overcrowded
@@kylenavarra9522 And sad. Just because they're swimming and eating doesn't mean they're "happy" to go from a shoal of hundreds to a lonely duo. But some people just do whatever they want and ignore everything that is known about fish nature and behavior Might as well just be ornaments on a Christmas tree.
You weren't at The Aquatic Experience 😥 I wanted to say hi and say thanks for all you do and knowledge you share!
+This Time Tomorrow yea. I will be again next year
tannins in my aquariums is the only way I roll...
Wow Rachel, so that means the fish that I bought off of liveaquaria are actually these that you showed in your video. They have their emperor tetras listed as Nematobrycon palmeri. I'm still growing them out as they came to me as juveniles being only half an inch long. They all have the adipose fin like you said, so they are not Nematobrycon palmeri.
Thanks for the video.
there are three fish that go by "emperor tetra", i'm sure there is a lot of mix up in the labeling. i have had problems with n. palmeri getting overly territorial, one male took over 1/2 the tank, maybe i. kerri are a better bet.
Perhaps it might be a stocking/schooling issue. These fish are tetras after all and prefer to be in big groups. I have 12 of the kerri tetras and they do fine with my other fish within my 40 breeder. I have 12 harlequinn rasboras and 7 neon tetras in there as well.
Reminds me of a little tuna with the body shape
cool fish
Lovely tetras. I was looking at getting a blue variety, I think they are called super blue, and are also very pretty. I could be wrong though, and maybe yours are the blue type? Envious of your fishroom.
awesome shirt!
Hi Rachel, great informative video as always and the purple emperor tetra look stunning. I have some space in my tank and was thinking of adding some tetra and wondered about the purple emperor tetra, however I do have a short fin betta and a long finned male angelfish, will, these emperor tetra target the betta and angelfish fins, are they known to fin nip? Thanks
Updated video never happened, huh? Did you have bad luck with these guys?
Hi Rachel I have a wild type zebra fish and pink zebra which I bought from local fish store what if I breed them both and what do you think.
do you think these would be a possible companion for angelfish? Love your channel by the way, thanks for all the hard work you put in ;)
I think their adult size is risky with adult angels.
Thanks for answering! it's just I love angels and don't want to keep them alone, but struggle to find companion fish I like and won't bother the angels either.
Rummynose tetra and harlequin rasbora are popular pairings.
Why dont u have leaf litter in your tanks? Just wondering
because it makes a mess when I net fish- I do often in my personal fish tanks, but not my sale tanks.
Your videos as always are very helpful. I recently got 12 purple emperor tetras and they are very small I found one being eatin by one of my black skirt tetras but I haven't seen any other aggression in the tank since I also have blood fins in my tank. Will they get as big as the blood fins?
Hey. Keep it up
That fish is peacfuul or agresif.. can he join with another fish and shrimp?
Judging by the placement of the o-nip tab and camera angle you're trying to hide something from us. What is it lol?
i have no idea what you mean- its a short end out tank?
Can you keep these fish with baby koi?
This is my favorite fish. They do just fine in smaller groups. I have had a group of 3 for about 4 years now, a male and two females. They are very easy to sex also. The males have blue eyes and the females have green. The males also get about twice the size of females. Awesome fish though, never seen any aggression out of mine at all.
Pretty sure you're confusing these with the larger Emperor Tetra, mate. No blue or green eyes on the Kerri. Easy mistake with the similar common names 🙂 But yes, unlike these guys, the Emperors are best in smaller harem groups of one male with a few females.
those are really nice looking fish. Since they have a bit of a reputation as fin nippers, would they do well with angelfish or is that just inviting trouble?
I think if they are housed in an appropriate group, they would not be nippy- however, at 1.4", you are pushing your luck for the angels to not eat them when the angels are at full maturity.
And since my angel is already fully mature that would make it hard for me to keep the tetras in large numbers as he picked them off one by one. (Munch munch munch.) Thanks for the info, Rachel!
Would a female Betta sorority be out of place with these guys?
Any one can help.. what name thats food sticky on the glass?
Sera onip
@@RachelOLeary tanks dude.. awosome.. always wating your update video.
In indonesia.. I cant get that fish food.. can I replacment with tetra pleco tablets or tetra tabimin.. you thing, what is better.. tetra tabimin or pleco?
I have never used either honestly. Most foods are fine
