As an old Lizardmen player who sort of didn't really make the leap into playing them in AoS since I kind of felt like their lore was kind of... Meh, this was a HUGE improvement! For me. I REALLY want to feel like, when playing an army, that I am not just playing an army that just sort of spawned in, but rather that I built and imagined this army who both before and after the battle will continue in an on going story. The old Seraphon lore really didn't have that since outside of the big frog at the center of the army... It was all just magical constructs popping in and out of reality when needed for battle. Now meat lizardmen are back baby! Before and after the battle they are back to being weird Aztec dino's trying to save a world/plain they don't fully understand or even much like and I am living for that!
I love the idea that they don't really like the world they're saving all that much.

"All I know is that I must PURGE CHAOS. . . AND RAT!"
2:30 while that is true for the Saurus (being too devoted to battle) and the Kroxigors (being too stupid), the Skinks on the other hand were far more social. This was due to them being the more generalized members of the Lizardmen society, being the mass workforce, "citizens", animal tamers, de-facto leaders when the Slann aren’t around, civil engineers, translators, scribes, artisans, administrators, etc.
Here’s a quote from Warhammer Armies: Lizardmen 5th Edition (pg. 14 - 15) to show you what I mean:
"All around there were noise and activity from the gangs of smaller lizard-creatures scurrying about on various tasks. Massive blocks of carved stone were being dragged up a vast ramp on one side of a tall stepped building. Huge creatures were bearing the strain of the ropes, while the smaller ones directed the work. In other places, groups of small lizardmen were engaged in heated debates accompanied by rows of seated scribes writing on clay plaques."
Im happy they kept the Starborn stuff. I really like their fantasy-space ships. Primitive looking structures that contain technology so advanced that its beyond our comprehension.
I really liked the old Seraphon lore with the daemons, I thought it was cool to have a faction like that in comparison to the chaos daemons but the coalesced alongside the lore and the rules really make the Seraphon a feared faction of deadly warriors that I really like as well
Don't the Starborne kinda fulfill that role? I've never played tabletop so I don't know the rules, but their lore sounds pretty close to Order Daemons.

I started to build Lizardmen back in Fantacy, loved the army, but when AoS came out I really wasn’t a fan of the Starborn. I tried to make my play style similar to the old world, but it never really worked. I ended up putting them away for a while and moved to different armies. Now with the new Battletome I’ve cracked the Seraphon out for the first time in what has to be a few years now and I love it. I’m still relearning things, but my army feels and plays like my army once was. I couldn’t be happier about it if I tried.
I really like this cleanup. The previous lore was absolutely messy, and left way too many open ended questions.
I love the addition that Seraphon have spawning pools again, and being attuned with the realm they choose to inhabit is just so cool!
My old Aztecosaur boys are finally back
I can’t help but imagine an Always Sunny esque Sitcom taking place in Azyr starring a Human (Dee), an Aelf (Mac), a Duradin (Frank), a Skink Seraphon (Charlie), and a Stormcast Eternal (Dennis).
That actually would be an interesting show. It can be a satire of GW lore.

I'm very pleased with the new lore. I didn't start this army until after AoS was in full swing. I had an eye for Lizardmen before, but just never played. So when I started building/paint my army, I did so with the idea that they were a temple ship that had landed and they were making a permanent home in the realms. So the Coalesced were made for my army! Couldn't be happier, unless they gave us Dino-themed Endless Spells!
I'm so glad they fleshed this faction out. My favorite faction they're so awesome
I collected Lizardmen way back in Fantasy (around '98-'99) and got back into Age of SIgmar with Seraphon. I like the changes to them, the synergies that play out on the table seem really good so far. I just wish we had gotten some new models, but I guess that's what conversions are for.

As a player who came into 6th edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle I loved the old depiction of the lizard-men. Their primal nature, the gritty life and the great plan of their Slann. I really love it that GW have brought that back but have also kept the new Seraphon with the Starborne. Best of both worlds!
I just recently got into AOS and I immediately latched onto the seraphon, tbh just because lizards. And I love the looks and lore of them, can't wait to try out the new ways
I read through this book 2 days ago and I was genuinely impressed and excited. This is my favorite faction in all if Warhammer and I am happy that my army is now both full of variety and now equal to the powerful factions running about suchnas Khaine and Ossiarch. I am excited to buy a ton of Everything and have fun with all thr units.
Hey, Doug! It's super-interesting that you compare the Seraphon and Eldar, because in a new 40k book *(The Infinite and the Divine)* we actually see some Eldar Exodites and find that they use Carnosaurs and Terradons as war-mounts! The book is a Necron vs Necron story and I think it's pretty damn good, although I'm only halfway through it.
And I think the Coalesced are a huge step in the right direction for my #1 faction. Now give me back my precious Kroq-Gar & Gor-Rok, GW! IIRC, Kroq-Gar survived the End Times (RIP Grymloq 😢), so there's a chance he's still kickin'. . . right? Or at least Kroak-daddy could think him back to life.
Please, GW, I just want to know he's okay.
I'm a way bigger fan of saurus war heroes and veterans than I am of slann so I'm glad that the lore allows for characters to exist like that again.
I love the Starborn but the addition of the Coalesced made so many more narrative opportunities for my games. I am working on a narrative setting where my Slann has ordered a New temple on Ashqy and I've been asking other players how their generals want to react to the new buildings. We have played some Warcry and AoS games to flesh out the story.

A very important aspect of the Seraphon is that they see the whole universe as one big chessboard. And they have the biggest stake in winning. The Chaos Gods and Nagash are insane, and their insanity often comes back to bite them. Even Tzeentch isn't quite as good as he seems. Not always. And since the Great Plan is still mostly on track. It's heavily implied that the Slann not only expected the End Times to happen, but actively wanted it to happen as part of the plan. In other words, these toads are the smartest beings in existence. And woe to whoever dares cross them.
I came here reading the Seraphon supplement allows you to play them in the Soulbound RPG...as Skinks and Sauruses. I only knew the old lore and could only ask how. The Coalesced make sense though (although I think it still somehow has rules for Starborn player characters...), as does the non-mechanical suggestion that the weird, distant, and mysterious Seraphon should only really play one or two sessions before being retired to maintain the utter alien outlook of them.
I thought the old Seraphon lore was alright, but it wasn't my favorite. I always felt like there was a disconnect between the models and the lore. They didn't look like Daemons of Order, they looked like flesh and blood Lizardmen. I am so happy with the new Coalesced. It is basically the Old World army in AoS. I also play Total War Warhammer, so now when I play the lizardmen, I can relate back to what I play on the tabletop.
I haven’t been able to get into AoS yet but I was a lizardmen player in fantasy. I think making them coalesced will allow them to have more interactions with the other races which I think the coolest part of the setting is how each race interacts with each other
Oh my god, I never saw this upload till now and I definitely regret it! You still definitely need to cover the 'Beneath the Black Thumb' short story though. Its great Sera-fun.

I do wish there were more black library books with seraphon as well. I feel like they're under utilized. But then again I'm biased cause they're my favorite faction lol
One of my buddy plays Seraphon and he's rather happy with the new book. The downside is he's gotten himself super competitive about it and he can't decide with sub-faction to play as to most efficiently beat his friends in casual play XD Yes, he's one of "those" warhammer players.
This updated lore is SO much better. I hated the weird daemon Lizardmen. This is a great compromise between the two. Well handled by GW.
But, why didnt they bring kroc gar back. He was soooo cool

This series will advance the plans of the Old Ones.
The battletome was very much a reset, which is nice and all, but it still leaves Seraphon with some holes, mainly in the form of any named character direction both on the board and in the lore.
Kroak got an increase in power level but for all new resurgence in population of the Seraphon now that the spawning pools are back online, we only have three named Slann otherwise, one of which is dead, another is on their deathbed. There really isn't any excuse why we couldn't get a named Saurus Oldblood running things for Koatl's Claw in Ghur, for example. Same with Thunder Lizards in Chamon.
Meanwhile, Nighthaunts have three named characters with models and not nearly as many different allegiances.

Did it mention the Purge of Azyr at all? An important and interesting moment in AoS history. Obviously they aren’t exactly subject to Chaos, but maybe they were the ones (in some cases) who were tasked with carrying out the massacres, knowing they could be trusted?
How are people who don't know Fantasy finding AoS? The story I've heard about is people finding out about Fantasy through Total War, then finding out it had been blown up. That was my story, I know that much.
I dont know if you still want an answer 7 months late but found AoS like you. I decided that I was skipping AoS because I didn't like the daemons of order thing I preferred when they had spawning pools and stuff etc. This stuff has me really excited about them again. (I Should mention that I unfortunately I don't play AoS because I don't have the money to put in for the models and etc.)

Yeah same reason I havent gotten into tabletop.I really want to at least get some models so I can display them (huge dinosaur fan and I think the seraphon/lizardmen models would look nice with my other dinosaur related items)

Because of this new book. I now run Kroq'Gar and Gor'rok. As themselves. I honestly prefer it and I'm incredibly glad for the changes..since I built my lizardmen army in 8th edition....right before the End Times. So with the new fluff I CAN run my heroes. And they are them. Kinda. Lol

So now people can RP their Seraphon as Coalesced, basically just going back to the old Lizardmen. This just seemed like a back-peddle, but if it also presents a meaningful variation in gameplay, I can't complain. How about new units and species corresponding to the changes made by each realm? Is it too much to ask for an actual story, with Seraphon characters undergoing that radical transformation? What it's like to go from a magical construct to an organic being? Steven Universe spent 5 seasons exploring this concept.
I'm also getting confused what Azyr is meant to represent. I associated it with storms, lighting and wind. But the Seraphon living there are fused with? Wouldn't that be Hysh?

I was not at all interested in the Coalesced. Still have not played them but I'm warming up to the idea. I can still play my Starborn just with some modification. Still summon 10 skinks a turn and still teleport. Still fall back from combat with Skinks, but only in a 4+. Chamber skinks now work like my old lords of space and time when I need to jump multiple units for objectives. Oh I can still run Gotrek with them but now I can add Drycha instead.
Mostly I was just annoyed at having to change all of my bases from square to circle

It really bothered me that they weren’t, Lore wise, flesh and blood creatures. I wanted to play an army of reptilian badasses not a bunch of holograms and memories with no individuality.

Huge fan of seraphon. It got me back into fantasy when they made that oldblood on carnosaur, my favorite model. I'm let down by the book, with no mount traits. Since they have a ton of different amounts. And no new names heros, n there isn't much about kroak in the book. It would have been nice if they could add more for newer players. I've played a few games with coalesced n I like it. I hated the way they use to play. Either play with skinks or thunderquake starhost. I love the saurus, n glad they are now more playable. Still trying to figure out how to really use flyers they seem like a waste unfortunately. Like cheap, fast objective takers but not durable. N summoning is a joke now. I think they went in the right steps. But this feels more of what they should have gotten. N maybe a good step in the right direction.

I'm a seraphon player but little let down by some of the changes to the modles like alot of heros all have the same command ability or traits or can only use with a type of unit sort of
Up side the lore for the flesh and blood is amazing and glad they are now back.
Also up side saurus gard 2 wounds woop woop but not my eternal star host so pretty much made eternal warden crap and hard abit weaker, in my opinion
Skink heros be came better but makes you take certain ones for certain buffs which is meh.
And wish they left the bravery alone were no plus or neg bit pointless taking massive blobs of men as if you lose like 4 in one turn your gonna loose so much.
I converted Alton brown to the side of khorne.

I like how the new book different rules depending on your faction as it helps define the faction... but I hate how if you want to play the faction with a "fluffy" general you are forced to take a particular warlord trait
if you choose to play a specific sub-faction your choice of traits and artifacts is locked. that's a common thing with most of the other armies.

Lost nothing? Are you serious? The old playstyle was completely nerfed into the ground. Trying to play starborn today is objectively worse than before this book came out. The coalecesed are cool but there playstyle is a mirror of every other hammer based melee army and just about everyone else does it better.
I love my lizards and your videos but that last line just seriously rubbed me the wrong way.
Zeeka, all due respect, this is a lore video. That’s what I was referring to. If you built an army that leaned into the theme of the first book, then it wasn’t retconned, they just added the coalesced as another lore based army option.
My intention was to to just talk lore :)
