We’re shit - Southgate has sucked the life out of the team.
Not really. This is how England have always played since 1998.
@geoff6195 it's a mentality thing, plus a wrong philosophical approach of the game.
The FA of England has not changed the way they want to play football at the grass root level.
Most coaches in the lower divisions still play the old styles of English football.
Southgate is part of that mindset. Therefore, to expect anything more from him is like living in a cuckoo's land, as Keane pointed out.
People expect more because they watch Premier League, but Premier League is on an entirely different planet in comparison to the other league where most English coaches coach.
Spain changed the entire structure to achieve what is achieving. The same thing happened with Germany after 2006.
France is just lucky because it produces so much talent, hence why they achieve so much success.
Southgate was knighted for these performances not so long ago and had all of England buying waistcoats
southgate claps the mailman after he delivers his post
If Bellingham gets a one game ban, I think it’ll force Foden to play 10 and Gordon to play 11.
That’s actually not the worst to come from that. Less cramped midfield, especially if Kane actually stays up and plays his bloody position (I still prefer Watkins to start next match), which favours Foden. Bellingham needs a rest, and Southgate was way too scared to put him on the bench back when he actually had a chance to. It might actually be a less stressful watch 🤔
@@somehorse I’m with you on that
England's best hope since Gareth lacks the shtunz
I've long thought that's the answer. Bellingham is great but building the team around him, i.e. having him play behind Kane, is hurting the team. We have no left side, thanks to Shaw's injury and Foden playing out-of-position. Both Foden and Bellingham are trying to do the same things all game, so they sort of cancel each other out (in each other's way, both out of position at the same time, etc.)
Foden behind Kane, Gordon left wing, Bellingham next to Rice. I think those changes alone would change how effective England are.
Southgate would probably put taa at the 10 and saka at cdm w rice at lb
In the small town I live in, in Germany there is football club about 100m away from me with a grass pitch and an artificial pitch. All of the trainers have to have a DFB qualification. In the next town about 2km away from me, they also have a training and a grass pitch. Every town throughout Germany has these levels of facilities. As the trainers are trained from a central point, there is a commonality in how every position is trained and this starts with the young children. When Germany couldn't beat Spain, Pep Guardiola was employed by Bayern Munich! ..... The centre of the DFB brains for football in Germany sat and observed him and re-designed and improved the Spanish concept. About 8 years later Germany beat Brazil 7 1 in their own stadium then went on to win the world cup. That's how you create a world competitive team. The English FA has known about this at least since the 80's. Additionally, the small club close to me regularly has Japanese players who come over to learn about how football is trained and developed in Germany. This is what creates teams and the reason why England has been continuously underachieving. Nobody understands why England refuses to take on other people's concepts for successful development of the sport. Maybe the FA can't afford it!!!!! Until this problem is resolved, England will continue to play the headless chicken team concept.
I'm always saying it's the FA that run the show not the players n manager. The FA will give the manager a strict playing philosophy in the contract, which if ignores can lead to the manager losing his job.... that being said, it only take one man with courage to say how's about we do it differently, like we're used to with our club teams. Fast paced cutting football.
@@benjaminleo7011 Your missing the point. By the time an English manager gets in front of his group of players, it's already 15 years too late to teach a playing concept.
Can you imagine what Spain will do to them? LOL. They won't have to worry mind because they won't get far enough to where they could potentially play them. Southgate should be arrested to how bad he's got players of this standard performing. 😆

@diligenceeke3023 Oh I think it generally does. How many teams win these tournaments playing this consistently bad? Exactly. I don't even care but you'll wise up when you are put out again which is what happens even when you play decent at a tournament so what makes you think you'll win one now? 😂😂

baffling to say the least.
There are literally no options. Iling Junior, Livramento and Hall are all just not experienced enough yet, Chilwell, Colwill, Johnson aren't even playing for their clubs; Tyrick Mitchell and Max Aarons are probably just not up to the level; Rico Henry did his ACL otherwise I'm sure he's be in. I’m no Pep Guardiola but Southgate needs to be gone asap we will never win anything under him.
@@sensibility1174 Aaron Cresswell and the prem new boy Leif Davis could have easily been cover for left
Alfie Doughty would've been the best choice for a manger who properly prioritises system football. A left footed left wing back who is adept at defending and excellent at crossing and going forward. Could have been deployed in a role similar to Spinazlola's during the last Euros. The fact that he plays at Luton holds him back from being picked.
England just need Gordon on the left. You'll unfortunately have to bench Foden, but they need more direct play on the wings. That change alone changes this team.
Foden should be 10, Bellingham 8 and Gordon 11....
We need a back 3 as Walker isn't creative enough as a full back, I want Trent on the pitch, not as a midfielder as we saw he wasn't good in midfield against Serbia and Denmark. Walker is a great defender so RCB for me is his best position, Stones and Guehi stay in. Saka in his early days for Arsenal played as a wing back, and for me he hasn't been great at RW, he isn't as creative as the likes of Palmer and Foden. So why not play play him as wing back again? Rice obviously stays in as he's been our most consistent player alongside Pickford, rarely ever puts a foot wrong. Bellingham after that amazing goal has to stay in, he hasn't been good this Euros but I still have faith he can continue to do wonders this Euros (depends if England qualify). Palmer was positive in both the games he came on against Slovenia and Slovakia. And he's young EPL player of the season, plus Saka and Foden haven't really been good so why not start him. On the other side, Gordon is a literal LW, unlike Foden who doesn't play there, it isn't hard to see, so play Gordon.
It was tough to choose between Kane, Watkins and Toney. Kane hasn't been great of course but he's literally our captain and he scores some important goals like the one yesterday. I think we should leave Kane on (I'm not too sure tho) so we can bring either Watkins or Toney on as a 2nd striker to Kane. I think Kane plays best JUST behind a striker who can hold up the play like Toney, maybe even Watkins. So this is the lineup for me, below:
Lineup: Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi
Trent Rice Saka
Bellingham
Palmer Kane Gordon
IF WE ARE LOSING OR DRAWING:
The substitutions should be:
Eze for Gordon so he can play RW
Foden or Bowen for Palmer to play LW. Or Tripper can come on for Palmer to play LB and Saka can play RW
Toney or Watkins for Saka to be a 2nd striker with Kane and that'll also mean Trent will play LB and Walker RB to switch to a 4-4-2.
IF WE ARE WINNING:
Gallagher for Bellingham so he can give more energy to a tired England side at the end and win lots of balls
Tripper for Saka for more solidity on the left as Saka
Mainoo for Palmer to calm the game down for England and give them some control as the other team will be wanting to equalise
Konsa, Gomez or Dunk for Trent to give more solidity in defence. Walker to play RWB/RB and Tripper LWB/LB to give a back 5 of Walker, Stones, Guehi, either of the 3 I mentioned and Tripper.
Hope u agree with me
Guehi is suspended!!

Yes, plenty of managers, You just choose to focus on him.
Football is about winning but our best chance of winning the next match is clearly to completely change what we are doing because it is not producing performances that will result in wins against good teams. Think of it like this. If I run 400m by only sprinting the last 50m and jogging the rest, that might be enough to get me through the heats, but if I get to the final and I know half the field have been running considerably quicker than that then it would be madness to keep the same tactics.
Roy doesn't really believe that, he's just saying the opposite of what Gary's saying because it's the opposite. We're going to announce the same team with one or two forced changes, and then we'll go out.

Nope. They have a spacing problem. A left wing who wants to come central, a right wing who wants to get on his left foot, and a centre forward who wants to come deep. A right back who doesn’t overlap, a left back who’s right footed.
When you don’t use the full width of the pitch it’s easy for teams to defend. Pep has understood this for years
this is why team mates eze & wharton must play together! they were brilliant together for crystal palace at the end of last season, averaging nearly 3 goals a game! eze is the best dribbler in england's team, wharton is the best passer! apart from eze he would get the best out of foden, palmer, bowen & gordon! wharton is also a left sided player!
gallagher must also play - remember, in the 4 games he has played, england have not yet conceded a goal!!!
dude, they have everything they need, just that a clown is managing all this is the issue.
Foden in 10, rice and bellingham behind. Saka rw, gordon lw, tony or watkins up front. Then defence as it is but trent on for walker as need more of an attacking push espeically with gordon for the switch. (Obvs gaye is suspended so konsa in for him)
And if its not working by 35 minutes make a sub then by 55 minutes make a double sub and then another at 75 leaving 1 for injury
Wonder why Roy isn’t a manager just listen to this waffle 🤣
Anyone notice England improved when Eze and Toney came on and Bellingham went into the No6 role? Move Foden to the middle as the No10 along side Bellingham with Rice holding and Eze or Gordon on the left. And stop passing the ball backwards!!! The amount of times Bellingham made a run just for the player on the ball refused to play it was ridiculous.
That playing negative backwards sometimes kills momentum. Drives me batty watching players push the ball in last third of the pitch only to have another player pass it back to their half of the pitch.
As ever, one true winner in the room speaks the truth. Well said Keane.
Middus touch. Hahaha
Haha, like a sort of middling version of the Midas touch.
Keep blaming the manager but the players are also a big part of the problem, not enough fire, not enough belief.
That's a reflection of the manager

Groundbreaking analysis
To be fair everyone's looking pretty shite, not just england
Eh? Switzerland look hench as fuck
I question Bellingham & Kane’s celebrations on the grounds of homoeroticism. WTAF is that choreography? Is that where your head is at? ‘If we score we do this’. Absolutely pathetic. Keane has gone soft.
The british need to stop thinking they are a soccer juggernaut like the other big EU countries. They are and always have been a mid chart team.
You could just look at the rankings. You could also at least make an argument as to why you think England shouldn't be winning the games they have had. If not, you would have to explain why the world's football media, outside of England, is commenting that they are underperforming. Maybe you could change your comment to " People need to.."
Sorry to break it to you - it's England.
Scotland are out - Wales and NI didn't get there...
It's football, not soccer.
@@jol0973 they have won what in the last half century ? Oh nothing ... What have the other big european countries won recently ? Oh several world/euro cups. They are mid tier, that it. Spain/france/italy/germany are simply way more accomplished as well as portugal/croatia/netherlands as well as several other european teams. England is not a contender or has been in the past 70 years.
@@TH-du8nc Just because you're not a contender for the trophy, it doesn't mean you shouldn't expect your country to beat a team ranked 20-40 places beneath you. It was you who started talking about trophies etc, the England fans simply wanted at least a good performance against the teams they have faced.
Also, according to some people, getting to the final of the Euros and losing on penalties arguably would make you a contender anyway.
I think your hatred of England, which many seem to have, has caused you to lose sight of basic logic 😂
Steve Holland as the assistant coach surely cannot be so agreeable as to just stand by and allow Southgate to continuously pick the failed Foden & Saka on the left and right midfield??? Southgate appears spellbound by Ancelotti & Deschamps’ teams of late, playing their winning minimalist football as they do. It’s bad for the soul to watch England now, I still feel sick after that game.
Foden would not "fail" if he was played in position on the right. He literally never plays on the left for City.
Overpriced multi-million pound paid players who have been over indulged all their lives and need to grow up!
Try dealing with the level of pressure they have to deal with for longer than one second without having a heart attack.
Roy responding to Neville’s calls for us to play quicker:
“If you think Gareth’s going to fix that in the next two weeks you’re living in cuckoo land”.
What a depressing thought, that our manager can’t change anything going forward.
If we carry on like this, I agree with Neville that we’re going out of the tournament on Saturday.
Roy said it man ... who cares about how it happened. They're in the quarters.
Just looking at it that way shows absolutely zero critical thinking skills, obviously performances matter. Massive difference between dominating Germany 4-0 and getting to the quarters than getting dominated and just happening to score a list minute overhead kick to equalize, obviously that matters. There's more to a game than just "they got through" by sheer chance.
I never thought I would hear Roy Keane advocating for England. But he’s right, they are still in there (just!), fighting.
They weren’t all that great in Italia 90, but they almost won that semi final; it’s all about fine lines.

Southgate wears a parachute when walking down some stairs
“You’re living in coo coo land”. Best line ever!
I think a lot of people underestimate Slovakia. They are a very decent side -- compact and very well organised -- with some world-class players.
Keano is right. Instead of supporting England and their actual strengths, people are criticising their weaknesses. The way England are playing is not new - it’s been this was for 30 years bar maybe 96 and 04.
Owen Gole is outscoring every England team member combined!
