I'm sorry but Southgate isn't the best manager we've had for 40 years.
He is genuinely devoid of any managerial talent and tonight showed that perfectly.
We have the best squad in this tournament (despite Southgate trying to ruin that as well bringing Shaw) and we have a wealth of attacking talent that he doesn't use.
He sets up exactly the same every game - there is no thought about the actual opposition that we're playing.
His game management is seriously lacking, both in terms of changing shape and subs. At half time we were crying out to change that front 3 - bringing on Toney with 2 mins are you joking?
We didn't win that tonight because of Southgate - we won that because of pure chaos.
I'm not even sure what formation or style of play we were going for at the end. About 8 defenders, Saka playing in goal probably - it was pure chaos and we won from a long throw and a magical bicycle kick.

My take on England is that they're playing to survive, with defensive and risk-averse tactics. It's frustrating to watch, because deep down we can all sense that England don't believe they can win the tournament, and that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Now look at Spain, who have have aggressively pursued and achieved wins in every one of their games. Spain clearly believe they can win the whole thing, and it's paying off. In football, fortune favours the brave.
The one thing going in England favour is that the side of the knockout stages they've landed on is arguably more forgiving than the other side, which has Spain, Germany, France, etc. In theory England could survive all the way to the final, but I don't see them ever winning a final playing the way they are. You need to play to win, which England aren't doing.

Gareth Southgate, as the manager of the England national football team, has garnered both praise and criticism throughout his tenure. While he led England to the Euro 2020 final and achieved notable success in other tournaments, there are valid arguments suggesting why some believe he should be sacked.
Critics argue that Southgate's tactical decisions, particularly in crucial moments of matches, have been questionable. His conservative approach in certain games, opting for defensive strategies or late substitutions, has been criticized for stifling England's attacking potential and failing to capitalize on momentum. This was notably observed during the Euro 2020 final against Italy, where England lost in a penalty shootout after taking an early lead but failing to maintain it.
Furthermore, Southgate's team selections and squad management have faced scrutiny. Some pundits and fans argue that he has been overly cautious in integrating young talents and relying on experienced but possibly out-of-form players. This has raised concerns about his ability to optimize the squad's potential and adapt to changing game dynamics effectively.
Criticism also extends to Southgate's record in major tournaments. Despite reaching the final of Euro 2020, England's performances in key matches have been inconsistent under his leadership. The team's inability to secure victories against top-tier opponents in decisive moments has led to questions about Southgate's capacity to deliver success in high-pressure situations.
Off-field issues, such as his handling of player discipline and team morale, have also been cited as areas of concern. While Southgate has been praised for fostering a positive team environment and promoting unity, instances of internal discord or controversial incidents involving players have raised questions about his management style and ability to maintain discipline.
In conclusion, while Gareth Southgate has achieved significant milestones with the England national team, including reaching the Euro 2020 final and advancing through challenging qualification stages, there are legitimate criticisms regarding his tactical decisions, squad management, and ability to deliver consistent success in major tournaments. Whether he should be sacked ultimately hinges on whether the Football Association believes he can address these concerns and lead England to greater achievements in the future.

Every team we've played against has locked down the midfield in front of their area and nullified any attacking threat from England.
It's not a proper 4231, it's 433 with 2 DMs. Portugal play a proper 4231 with 3 players working as interchangeable No10s and fullbacks providing the overlap.
England need a left footed LB in there, to put a winger on each wing (surprise) and give whoever is next to Rice the freedom to go forward. It's so stagnant in midfield we lack control...

you see it .i see it practically every set up ive seen people suggest makes more sense than southgates . id go 5 3 2 n wingbacks myself for the width . gordon lwb trent rwb . another striker with kane . we saw how adding toney helped kane . the trouble is gareth only goes for it if they are behind with 5 mins to go .he cant help it . hes a defensive monster . the way gareth sets up foden is playing as a left winger and saka as a right winger . neither of them offer much wide . almost everything about gareths set up is wrong its a disaster .yet hes so lucky n gettin away with it . 30 seconds away from being crucified by the critics tonight .

@@twelvemeister I completely agree with the both of you but wouldn't it be better to put saka LWB as he's left footed and played there before he's better defensively than Gordon and can get up and down decent delivery aswell in terms of his crossing.

I love Gary, but it's him who is getting defensive, not Jude.. Jude is a winner, he plays for Real Madrid, he clearly feeds of criticism, he's the type of man who does listen, and then proves you wrong. The England of old would've lost that game, we have winners in this team, we have character. GO ON JUDE! COME ON ENGLAND!

Shouldn’t have to rely just on individual brilliance to beat Slovakia though. The foot ball we play is fucking boring as fuck, and as soon as they score they sit back and let the opposition control the game. It’s defensive and shit, and as soon as we play anyone even half decent we will come unstuck, and Southgate will make terrible choices and we will be out!

They had no attack, no plan, no tactics. The goals came from two pieces of exceptional individual play. On the day, England were the second best "team". This isn't a case of a bump in the road and they saw it through. England have been poor in all four matches, while also being boring and almost watchable.

He didnt pick Jack cus he does nt like him , must be persornal or he said something knobgate didnt like , you cant ignore raw talent like that !🤔🙄.If that was the case , Gazza wouldnt ve bn picked .theres a fine line between genius n crazy, bn flawed on certain things. Examples- G.BEST, Balotelli , Cantona , Zidan , Suarez, to name a few! These geniuses cant be ignored , hence knobgates decisions !! Mans a fool ,with him in charge we ll never win anything 🤔🙄. Not won anything for 60 odd years but pundits seem to think hes our most successful manager for last 40 years , do me a favour - HES NOT CUS HE HASNT WON ANYTHING , HOW CAN THAT BE SUCCESSFUL! !?? He’s lectured his way through the post on everything from taking the knee to Covid and the FA love his woke, yes man diplomacy.. he plays at a alien pace and tempo to these players, and freezes if there’s decisions to be made …he was dull and out of his depth at Middlesbrough.. he hasn’t improved with his new stylised make over and beard to hide his llama like mouth.. they tell us not to get personal but it is personal when he’s the highest paid manager at the tournament and hints at the England fans who’ve paid thousands to be there being the problem !

Gary come on man Garbage Southgate has been one of the worst managers in England history his the reason we missed out on major tournaments his principles of play and game management are nonexistent and he proved it again today the game need massive changes at half time and what a surprise he does nothing his first change was forced because of an injury if that did not happen he would have made changes at 85 minutes which we saw he brought on Eze on 84 minutes when we need a goal and his got Toney and Watkins on the bench his a clown we got away with it today Southgate was horrendous again hopefully the players and their quality will be enough to the final because Southgate can’t help his crap might as well just be a cardboard cutout of him in the dugout 🤡🚮🤦‍♂️
