So outstanding! When I was 60 ( 24 years ago ) I made a little tiny board book and in it I put little tiny collages about my life story… It’s one of the things I have saved over the years and have always loved . This project reminds me that I have to start a new book because I’ve changed a lot since I was 60! Can’t wait to see what you’re going to create and I’ll probably have to work on two Books, one will be continuing the little book and one bigger one inspired by what you are doing.. and with underpants 👏 Especially cool because October is my birthday month.. Yay!
you go girl.....84 and going strong...that melts my heart! and gives me hope to continue on this path for many more years to come!!! thank you for taking the time to leave a comment with such a positive message carole! see you on the table carole!!!
Your comment gave me hope! I am 49 and feel like i have lived 4 different lives. Literally life events that birthed a new "me". Then a few years later everything shifts again and I've had to adjust and start all over. I'm now at a point where i am zapped of energy and zest for living. I literally couldn't care less if i laid down and never woke up. I have no idea who i now am. I have been diagnosed with illness after illness over the last ten years or so, I am in constant pain physically and mentally. My body shape and size has doubled, my self care is bordering on neglect, my mobility has plummeted, my life is literally unrecognisable. I, am unrecognisable. My heart and spirit has been smashed into dust since our little boy died. His name was Oliver Leslie, he was 5½ and died from chickenpox. They say time heals...they lied! I have an older daughter, who is married and they have 5 children. I love my grandchildren so much, and they live literally 2 minutes drive away. But I haven't seen them since July. My daughter is a complicated young woman, she wants me when she needs me, when i need her she is busy. If i mention that, all hell breaks loose and I'm cut out. I think about typical life expectancy age, my dad is almost 86, my mum would have been 80 in july just gone, but she died a few weeks before. I used to joke with my mum about feeling like an old lady, she'd say "you're only 49, you may have another 49 years or more ahead of you!"... Id reply "mum, i don't know how i made it this far, I don't know how I'll cope another week, so don't try lumbering me with another 49 years cos that sounds like hell". We'd laugh about life, but in a "if you don't laugh you'll end up crying" kind of way. The thing is I'm not self pitying, i could only wish that i was a hypochondriac and drama queen because then at least I'd only have my mind to fix! I'm usually so resilient and stubborn... The more life has shit on me the better i have fought back to overcome it. But now i feel exhausted. Like, what's the point? Your comment made me think that, you know what...? I MIGHT have to live another 49 years or more, so what am I gonna do...drag my arse moping through it, or rebirthing and rethinking how to navigate this new chunk of life? And it made me think.... "Fuck it... I will NOT be beaten into submission by anyone or anything!" You are an inspiration, as was my mum. She was also my friend. I mourn the loss of her friendship, and I mourn that my daughter doesn't want the same relationship with her mum... Me! But what can you do? I need to give myself a swift kick up the backside and LIVE rather than EXIST! Look at you embarking on a new project and not being held back by probabilities! How great is that? What a lovely lovely image you brought to my mind! And a humbling jolt to my stomach. I feel like crying, but in a soothing letting go kind of way. With relief. That my path is not over... It's just a bit overgrown and needs uncovering! And besides, weeds are flowers too! Maybe i just need to look at this path in a different light, see things in a different way? Thank you for opening my eyes and making me look. ❤💛💚💙💜♥
Tami Elizabeth Allaway I have been where you are, at about the same age you are now… The circumstances were different, I have never lost a child. But I had lost love. All I can offer you as you go along is that things change and the phrase “Art saves lives “ is really true… It gives you a chance to go to your center and that is where the healing lives...In my case, I would not have believed that being in my 80s would offer anything but pain and yet I can truly say that I am more myself and more at peace with my inner being than I could have imagined in my 50’s... The journey into old age can be a marvelous adventure... I would offer that giving up expectations is one of the keys. That includes the perceived expectations of those around you and your expectations of others and yourself. Making art is an inner journey and, in my opinion a journey worth making... I wish you well on your journey… You are very brave to lay it all out there, so I am sure, with that much passion, it’s going to be a wonderful trip...👍🏻💪🎊🆙
@@freeee35 thank you Carole! You are so right about expectations! I'm finding it particularly difficult to come to terms with the changes in my health. I used to be so physically capable and active. I'm finding it hard to find a purpose within me. No longer a mummy, no longer have my mummy. Yes I'm a mum, but not in the way I would like it to be. My husband tells me i am the strongest person he has ever known, I tend to only see the irony of that statement, as he is helping me get dressed for example. I see myself as needy now and in need, and I don't like it one bit! I recently bought a blank journal that is for mum's to fill out for their daughters. It has photo areas and questions to answer and spaces to leave advice or stories etc. I thought, as my mum had just died when i bought it, "what a lovely gift for a daughter to find among her mother's possessions after she's died". Then my daughter has since had another snarling hissy fit and I ended up crying myself to sleep. Thinking of this journal and knowing that it wouldn't be received as a treasured heirloom after I'm no longer here! It's a maudlin miserable thought to feel like you have fuck all to leave behind, and even less people who would give a shit anyway! But, as you say... expectations! How we want things to be and how they actually are is rarely the same. I love my daughter and i know she loves me, I'm just going to have to learn to come to terms with the fact that it's not quite as cosy and rosy as i would wish it to be. Absolutely true about art and creativity! It is one of my lifetime loves and not been robbed from me by illness. I miss dancing, i lived for music and losing myself dancing, but i still have my crafts. One thing I can do and do well is crafting. It's probably the only thing about me that I can say for certain i am good at! Over the years it was a necessity as much as a hobby, make-do-and-mend was my mantra when my daughter was little. We had little money but our home was as pretty and comfortable as anybody else's. I taught her how to bake and sew and make things out of seemingly nothing! Now i can make what I like and try out new crafts that I may not have done before, just for the hell of it! I'm in between finishing a basket I've woven, watercolours and doodles, and hand sewing journal embellishments! But i may just start a board book now I've seen this lol! My time is pretty much my own so i can craft whenever for however long i like! And for that, and this just this second occurred to me, I have my illnesses to thank for my crafting freedoms! Wow! You really did trigger me into seeing things differently! My physical slowing down has given me more time to craft! Who'd have thought? That's just blown my mind! Maybe it was the universe telling me I no longer needed to be here there and everywhere for other people. That it was time for me to just create and be in the moment for ME! Oh my! My head is rushing with the craft supplies i now want to pull out and dive into! You are a wonderful lady and certainly NOT redundant at 84! You just gave me a jolt of much needed clarity! I've been mentally slumped and struggling to even bother to climb out, and you just shone a torch down into my burrow and gave me a reason to wake the hell up! You have no idea how much you have lifted my spirits! The world is blessed to have you in it! 😘😘😘
I've wanted to make my friend something to commemorate a trip we took to Paris. This is perfect. Would have never thought of using a board book to start. Thanks again for your continual creative inspiration!

Lovely to see you start a new project. I for one do not know what a board book is. So looking forward to the process. I myself am struggling to learn how to do junk journals.
This one looks so fun. I want you to know that not only have you inspired me, I actually finished my first altered book... Took 2 1/2 years! because I lost inspiration. Thank to you it is complete and I showed it off to a friend in a restaurant last night and the people at the table next to us insisted on seeing it too... They were blown away! I just love it and now, because of you, I am inspired to start the next one. If I lived closer I would meet you for coffee in our robes and show it off to you! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!
LorriMarie your killing me! I’m a retired preschool teacher and I have two, TWO of the biggest plastic bins you can buy filled with children’s books. I’m off the hook now lol this is fabulous.

Oh my word!!!! This looks so much fun. I have a lot of those file pages with the metallic tab as before redundancy I was a Personal Insurance Broker & instead of throwing things away, all the staff gave me stuff to bring home & repurpose. I actually got them in 2007 before leaving one company to join another. Knew they'd be useful in the fullness of time 😁😁 Must go to the pound shop & get me a board book 😊❤❤❤
way to hang on to things paula!!! gotta love those tabs..especially the old metal ones...deeeelish!!! you could probably sell some to other 'villagers'! lol...see you on the table paula!!!
@@vetteg2940 if you are in the US, there is an Etsy store called FeedtheBirdies they sell them singly for $2.00+ postage. I've just tried to find mine but they are nowhere in sight. I'm hoping they are in the attic as following my house move there's been renovation work.
The weather here has turned cold, below 70°, and thanks to M you i have reasons to stay at home....working on my 1st boardbook now and I have 3...Here we go....Yeah!!! October. Thank You for continually igniting the fire within me. I am so grateful for all you do & your encouragement and creativity. Namaste
Wonderful, wonderful book. I always wanted to learn this binding technique - thank you. It’s so green, and with lots of texture - looks like it’s covered with moss, and has a “forest” feel to it. Again, great job LM! Hope getting the computer will be easy.🤞🎨🙌💕
oh my goodness hey seaville....thank you! sorry it has taken me this long to respond...thank you for taking the time to leave a comment!!! see you on the table hs!

Tip for sticky pages - use a little Daddy Van’s furniture wax on a soft cloth to wax your pages. 💜💜💜 Looks like I am headed to the thrift shop after work tomorrow for a board book.
Love the board book idea. I can't seem to keep up with the challenges in a timely way but am so grateful for the cache of uTube's that I can refer to when needed. You are so exceptionally inspirational and generous ❤

Good Morning LorriMarie, Yeah October Challenge. Very excited about this new challenge, even if I have never come close to finishing any other book I have started and wonder if I ever will. No inspiration lately but here is hoping this will change all that! Prayers to everyone suffering so sorry for your losses.
oh gail...one of these days you are going to finish a book...i know you are!!! and now you have a gelli plate to play with...what? you are going to have fun! see you on the table precious one!!!
This could have been a month-long tutorial in one part. Loved all the techniques. One warning about the board books, I use to volunteer at the library and one thing I did was repair books. The edges of board books will fray so we coated them with sealant. It reminded me of clear gesso. I can't remember the brand new but I'm sure you can find it with a little research. It is worth the time to do. Love this. I need a gelli plate.
oh brian....you better get a gelli plate...we are playing more with it in part 3!!!! so much fun! i am thinking that there is so much paint, gesso and matte medium on these pages that the pages may not fray...what do you think? thank you for the tip brian...i will certainly keep my eyes open for fraying!!! (i am a-frayed!) see you on the table brian!!!
woot woot linda...i am sitting in a subaru dealership....my car is getting a maintenance check up....man what i wouldn't do to be home on the table!!!! lol...later today for sure linda!!! see you there...
What ! No more modpodge LorriMarie, I’ve just got a gallon of the stuff HaHa! Love your new style of book, seen these in the charity shops must go get some, Thanks for more inspiration still addicted 💕
oh catherine...use that modpodge....i have been using it for years...and i adore it...i am trying something new...yikes...scary and exciting!!! go create, go play, go have fun catherine!!!
part 2 is up and running and part 3...starting the images...is in the camera...i cannot edit it until i get my responses answered...i am a bit behind cuz of computer issues....but....never give up...never surrender...right? that is right elaine!!! see you on the table...
@@elainetowns1314 well i just finished the first page of images...phew....i am a sweaty mess!!!!! lol...trying something new is not easy....lol....see you on the table elaine!!!
Fun!! Loving that you're giving the matte medium a try! I still prefer mod podge when working in the old books that have really soft, more absorbent pages if that makes sense. The matte medium just soaks in before it can hold! But for everything else, matte medium for sure!! Too funny, I actually just grabbed a few board books at random. Guess I have an excuse to use them up now! Maybe I'll follow along! Love how yours is coming along! Super fun to see ya doing something off the beaten path! Yay!
I just came across ur channel & so excited to find u! I loooove ur creative style 😁❣️ I’m exploring new creative outlets ….. mixed media & junk journals!
welcome kri! we have over 500 videos of mixed media and junk journals...so...grab a cuppa and put your feet up! i hope you find some good inspiration here!!! go create, go play, go have fun!!

what a sensory feast! looks, sounds, feels...This is so exciting. Thank goodness I found my way to your page. Thank you LoriMarie. PS Hand Sanitiser???? that is a unique move. Can you explain how or why you use it on deli?
good morning maria! the handsanitizer helps spread the paint and it dilutes the paint a bit...just a fun little somethin somethin to play with.....go create, go play, go have fun maria...i am so glad you found us too!!!!!
This is really grabbing my attention! Cant wait for part two. What would you suggest to someone who doesnt have a gelli plate? This is super fun.....may be the answer to some gift ideas for me.....!!
anything that you can spread paint on darling...plexiglas, acetate, teflon sheet...and there are recipes on youtube so you can make your own gelli plate love...now that is right up your alley!!! so my darling friend...go create, go play, go have fun!!!
@@lorrimarie2002 - I literally tried NUMEROUS times this evening to record a video to you and Rex made it impossible. He found his loudest squeekie toys, stomped and ran around the camera, threw heavy objects down the stairs, made dying noises.......no joke....this dog didn't want my attention elsewhere. I suspect he thought the camera was my phone. Anyway, it was seriously obnoxious and I gave up in a fit of laughter. So....stay tuned. Soon.
thank you precious...and now i have bleached my hair and put a metallic silver in it....why not? while the cat is away....the mouse....oh well you know the rest!!! see you on the table mary jane!
Thanks for speaking about the matte medium. I gave up Modpodge and started using gel matte medium after I learned this from Bob Blast on yt, I really like him. But I was wondering if my use of satin varnish finish would make the pages stick together. I love using satin varnish because it really brings out the colors of a piece. I'll most likely test it though, but now I know what I'm going to test it with. Thanks again, LorriMarie :)
sticky pages.....arg!!!!! my nemesis bunny! yep...test some products and use what is best for your climate...here in costa rica? everything is sticky....that is why i have had to change my art medium! thank you for the comment bunny.....go create, go play, go have fun!!!
Starting my board book tonight! Plenty of steps to finish before my gaffer tape arrives. Are the sewn signatures for fun or function? (just curious). And I’m also doing last year’s October book just for fun! Thanks for all you do 💜
oh duffy....last year's october challenge....so fun! and the stitching it more for function making sure the book is nice and strong...thank you for asking duffy!!!
scary for this girl....i need those chunky stabilos girlfriend! but...i will use what i have (accept i did have to buy some matte medium...lol)...see you on the table sonja!!!
oh brigette...i love 'drift' stores! the perfect new name for the thrift stores....lol.....and you will figure out the perfect 'innards' for your board book.....see you on the table brigette!
can you use a drill to create the holes rhonda? or do you have a friend that is willing to poke the holes? i would hate to see your book fall apart...the stitching reinforces the binding love...stop by this afternoon and i will help you! lol...if only rhonda!!! go create, go play, go have fun!!!
Hi LorriMarie...I have made a start on my board book and figure the stitched binding into the gaffer tape is purely decorative right?... as it doesn't actually sew the board pages together...is that correct or have I misunderstood the technique? Thanks for sharing...I'm loving the process!! 😊❤
i have answered this 3 times now and i still do not see the comment debs...you are worth the time tho!! lol...the sewing of the binding is not just decoration....it actually helps hold the book together...so go stitch away my friend....it does not stitch the pages together but it does stitch the gaffer tape to the binding...i hope that makes sense....go create, go play, go have fun!!!
Gaffer tape is a heavy cotton cloth pressure-sensitive tape with strong adhesive and tensile properties. It is widely used in theatre, photography, film and television production, and industrial staging work. and i am not sure about any strong matte finish tape....the gaffer tape is matte....i hope that helps a little bit stephanie! see you on the table....
i hope to get part 3 up and running today...so much fun!!! well...it was painful for a minute...getting into a blank book...but now? i am soooooooo ready to play! see you on the table january!!!
coffee in hand, yoga done....hudson is snuggled in next to me as i get to absorb all the comments amanda...life is grand!!! see you on the table amanda!!!
Hey girl! hope you are doing so very good, well I am going to give it a go this time to join you and all of us with this fantastic challenge! I saved a few board books and have them for a year now lol this is kismet[or isn't that the right word lol] right? so I will show you the progress for sure! xoxoxoxox hugs from over here in The small but big Netherlands
oh ahfba....i am delighted that you are going to join the challenge....i started on one page today with the images....really out of my comfort zone...but doing it anyway...life is happening on the edge...right ahfba? oh yes it is....see you on the table darling netherlands girl!!!!

you go girl....you have been one busy lady...i would say on fire....but that is not funny yet....luv ya shelley.....go create, go play, go have fun!!!!
Question: the binding just goes through the gaffer tape and material on the spine right? What does it hold together? Or is it for show? It doesn’t go through the actual pages right? I have watched a couple times and can’t tell if you are going through the book pages too.
the gaffer tape is strengthening the gutter....the gaffer tape and the gutter are sewn to the spine binding...it helps keep the book together lori...i hope that helps! go create, go play, go have fun!!!!
LorriMarie Jenkins yes. Trying to work art in between visiting my father and my own medical tests...it has been a very long, crazy summer. I NEED my art time!
I have a little little board book so probably don't need to glue pages together. It is a baby board book and they have thicker pages. Or go to the Sal and find another book…
oh use that baby board book...if you do not have to glue pages together you are way ahead of us!!! lol....see you on the table sonja! you are wonderful!
to stretch the paint...or just to play...i cannot decide barbra...lol...good thing i am an artist...people expect me to not make sense.....lol...see you on the table barbra!!!
Also.... I began the book using Matt Medium and found that after the 2 years.... some of it cracked and didn't hold well. I tend to use the medium for harder to glue items now and mod podge on the papers. Mine has not gotten sticky yet either... Hmmmm.......
i did not remove the back cover january....hmmmmm....do you mean the spine? it will pretty much come off by itself....i hope that helps january!!! go create, go play, go have fun girlfriend!
Hi LorriMarie, can you tell me what the ‘all’ is that you used to do the binding, it looked like you punched holes with it... thank you in advance, Bec Fu
Are you doing any Halloween related projects? Our Canadian Thanksgiving is on Oct. 14, so I am planning projects for Halloween and Thanksgiving. By the way, we in southern Alberta and Saskatchwan got our first snow of the season this past weekend. I finished a paper sculpture on top of an open book. I plan to re-purpose the book, so any suggestions as to how are welcome. Sadly, my book pages are not as sturdy as yours.

Is there going to be another part to this book? Are you going to work each page? get very confused because things aren’t listed consecutively. Also why does your channel your channel only have a few videos while the few videos while the general subscription page has many. Why is that?
yes.....there is part 2 getting ready to edit....and i am going to play with each page...this is a challenge and you are free to do on each page whatever you are inspired to do...yay! are you on the public youtube? i have over 300 videos so i am not quite sure how to answer your last question kimberly...i hope you can find what you are looking for....if you are looking for the october challenge...maybe look in the playlist under october? i am sorry i am not of more help kimberly....

You are an inspiration, as was my mum.
@@freeee35 well said!!!! art is the universal healer! amen..... see you on the table...

Thanks for speaking about the matte medium. I gave up Modpodge and started using gel matte medium after I learned this from Bob Blast on yt, I really like him. Yes, lovely hands. You really get into your work! But HOW do you keep your shirt/sweater sleeves clean?!
clearly you have not seen my 'decorated' wardrobe!!! lol...see you on the table debbie!
I’m on my way to goodwill to find a board book! 🤣
woot woot merry...good luck!!! buy 2!! lol.....see you on the table merry!
What is gaffer tape? Also do you know if there is any tape as wide as packing tape and as strong that is a matte finish?
Gaffer tape is a heavy cotton cloth pressure-sensitive tape with strong adhesive and tensile properties. It is widely used in theatre, photography, film and television production, and industrial staging work. and i am not sure about any strong matte finish tape....the gaffer tape is matte....i hope that helps a little bit stephanie! see you on the table....
Just finished part one- hooray
i hope to get part 3 up and running today...so much fun!!! well...it was painful for a minute...getting into a blank book...but now? i am soooooooo ready to play! see you on the table january!!!

LorriMarie Jenkins okay. Makes sense now, thank you! I have a few sizes to play around with. Fun stuff!
@@TwistedArtdesigns in your spare time...right girlfriend? xo

4:12- book starts
thank you!
Hi LM, this looks so neat for you, but Im sure you are going to make another playfull, original LM-book.love lena
oh lena...it is nice and messy now! lol...see you on the table lena!
Wondering why you added hand sanitizer to the paints?
to stretch the paint...or just to play...i cannot decide barbra...lol...good thing i am an artist...people expect me to not make sense.....lol...see you on the table barbra!!!
Also.... I began the book using Matt Medium and found that after the 2 years.... some of it cracked and didn't hold well. I tend to use the medium for harder to glue items now and mod podge on the papers. Mine has not gotten sticky yet either... Hmmmm.......
going to keep an eye on this helen...thanks for the tip! see you on the table helen!!!
Is it necessary to remove the back cover????
i did not remove the back cover january....hmmmmm....do you mean the spine? it will pretty much come off by itself....i hope that helps january!!! go create, go play, go have fun girlfriend!

Sadly, my book pages are not as sturdy as yours.
i think i have replied to you may loo...but i do not see it here...had some computer hiccups...at any rate...i have some videos on how to start the altered book and how to create a healthier altered book...so....hang in there! there is also the october 2018 challenge that you might enjoy...go create, to play, go have fun may loo!!!

Can fabric and mod podge be used in place of Gaffer tape?
That's what I used...I don't have gaffer tape so cut strips of linen and stuck down with Fabritac.
@@debsmclaughlin6521 Thank you!
i think that will work kyrie...as long as it does not get too stiff...but as artists we are so creative...and....use what you have...right? yay....see you on the table kyrie!!!
