I loved the blue watercolor over the gesso and when you opened up those pages it would have taken everything in my body cover that up but the end result was so beautiful. Really loved that picture of Alice.

I so love your book and all the great techniques. I have started to look at magazines differently. I also started collecting ephemera so I can fallow with you. I have gone to several thrift shop to find old books in order to give them new life BUT this is where I get lost. Should I just pick one and dive into it ?

Hi LorriMarie, started my book and I found the background watercolor, though I had allowed it to dry, nevertheless bled when adding my underpants. Same with adding an overlay of a second color. I did put it on a bit heavy. Is that the problem?
good morning shelle....well....it sounds like the page was amazing with some watercolors bleeding through the underpants...but let's talk about it...there are a couple of things that can effect your piece.....the quality and intensity of the watercolor paints....mine are really full of pigment....the watercolor on the gesso seems to grab better....there again....the thickness of the gesso can effect the final product...so it is probably an issue of your supplies rather than you...lots of pigment...not a lot of water....and then...let go and accept where the piece wants to go....right? i am not sure this was any help at all shelle...we can communicate with pictures via my email if that helps.... lorrimarie93@gmail.com until then shelle....see you on the table...
I'm amazed the modpodged page didn't stick to the picture of the lady in the cutout! I must try that. I'm new to art journalling and I'm really enjoying the learning of it, now I need to try it out. A question tho: when to remove pages from the book, how do you decide how many to remove? Is it every other one, every 2, 3,...? And... How many glued together pages (like today's 3pages for a double spread) would you do in a given book? Thanks
How do you not get paint; gesso or mod podge down your other pages. I've got a drippy mess going on everywhere and I even put waxed paper under the pages.
hey there cgc.....maybe you are using too much product? i do get SOME paint onto other pages at the edges...but that does not bother me...also...if you are being too 'juicy' it is really hard on the spine that holds everything together...rein it in baby! thanks for staying connected! see you on the table...

LorriMarie, I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. I got my background ready using gesso and some watered down watercolors. When I added my collage pieces the watercolor color started to lift up and get on some of the paper pieces. Do you know this would be happening and if so is there a solution?Thank you so much.
okay marilyn....here we go....the watercolors are always water soluble...no matter how long they are on the page...sooooo....when you glue things on the water color background...put your modpodge on the focal point and not on the page...work a bit 'dryer'..does that make sense? see you on the table for more fun marilyn...
How do you keep your pages from sticking together when using mod podge? I love mod podge for collage, but every time I use it in my book, the pages stick together and ruin my piece.

i get my books at thrift stores and library book sales....usually older books vanessa....and the images? art magazines and art books...well....anything i can get my hands on! lol! haute dolls, hi-fructose, juxtapoz, somerset....nothing is safe! lol...i hope that helps...see you on the table!

I have a lot of trouble with things I have decoupaged or collaged getting stuck together when I use Mod Podge. Do you have this problem? What type of mod podge do you use? Matte finish? I live in a humid area, so I'm not sure if that contributes or not, but I know the glossy mod podge definitely sticks together and will rip the collaged pages.
i do use the matte modpodge angela...and that is still no guarantee that the pages won't stick together...darn it...after the modpodge 'completely' cures it should not stick...but...you can sprinkle some baby powder on the pages...that helps...or...rub wax on the pages....good luck! see you on the table angela!

I actually spent several hours in the studio today making tags after watching a few of your videos last night. It's been a while since I worked on any, and you inspired me. I used decoupage glue this time, simply because my mod podge bottle was glued shut and impossible to open! lol But I will try the baby powder idea also. I'm about to watch the one with the toilet paper roll pockets now. Thanks for the great ideas!

I bought a book to try this craft. Its an old book. Could it possibly be too old? The pages are super thin, I almost think they should be a bit thicker. Also what size book should I start with, for example 100 pages, 300 pages, 1000 pages.
yep....some books are too old...too brittle and they break away from the spine too easily....be selective....100 pages would be a great size to start with! great questions tom....thanks! see you on the table!

I love your work and getting lots of inspiration but I have a technical problem. I have never used mod lodge before and it seems like it just never dries. I had finished my first collage and it seemed okay but when I glued my next pages together and sat on it my collage pages stuck together too. Any hints? In the past I ave been advised to dilute acrylic paint and the like to avoid this problem. Should I do that with mod lodge too?
dearest Lesley....thank you for taking the time to ask your question! a few things to ponder... you can use matte medium to glue your collages together if you are having trouble with the modpodge....are you in a dry climate? use less modpodge on the finished layer?...apply baby powder to the finished page?...i have not heard of adding diluted acrylic to the final page but i love that idea! thanks so much for sharing that idea with me!!! see you on the table!

hey brianna....thank you for your comment....if the modpodge dries...(cures) completely...your pages will not stick...high humidty and heat are not our friends tho....i put waxed paper between the pages until they are 'cured'....then there is not a problem...a pain...i know! and i get my vintage photos from inventory that i have....been collecting for a minute or two...lol! see you on the table brianna....

You can use rectangles of wax paper between two pages that aren't quite dry.

Lol Danna Rae! What is the difference between a laser printer when using for transfers then an inkjet?
i encourage you to try what you have....i have better luck with the laser printed images....the inkjet tends to fade and bleed for me....(it turns kind of green) danna rae....sorry!
I also would love to take a class since in in Sacramento your a hop & skip away. Could you tell me how I can. Btw spit doesn’t bother me! Lol

I so love your book and all the great techniques. I have started to look at magazines differently. I also started collecting ephemera so I can fallow with you. I have gone to several thrift shop to find old books in order to give them new life BUT this is where I get lost. Should I just pick one and dive into it ?

Hi LorriMarie, started my book and I found the background watercolor, though I had allowed it to dry, nevertheless bled when adding my underpants. Same with adding an overlay of a second color. I did put it on a bit heavy. Is that the problem?
good morning shelle....well....it sounds like the page was amazing with some watercolors bleeding through the underpants...but let's talk about it...there are a couple of things that can effect your piece.....the quality and intensity of the watercolor paints....mine are really full of pigment....the watercolor on the gesso seems to grab better....there again....the thickness of the gesso can effect the final product...so it is probably an issue of your supplies rather than you...lots of pigment...not a lot of water....and then...let go and accept where the piece wants to go....right? i am not sure this was any help at all shelle...we can communicate with pictures via my email if that helps.... lorrimarie93@gmail.com until then shelle....see you on the table...
I'm amazed the modpodged page didn't stick to the picture of the lady in the cutout! I must try that. I'm new to art journalling and I'm really enjoying the learning of it, now I need to try it out. A question tho:
when to remove pages from the book, how do you decide how many to remove? Is it every other one, every 2, 3,...? And...
How many glued together pages (like today's 3pages for a double spread) would you do in a given book?

How do you not get paint; gesso or mod podge down your other pages. I've got a drippy mess going on everywhere and I even put waxed paper under the pages.
hey there cgc.....maybe you are using too much product? i do get SOME paint onto other pages at the edges...but that does not bother me...also...if you are being too 'juicy' it is really hard on the spine that holds everything together...rein it in baby! thanks for staying connected! see you on the table...

What kind of paint are you using? I tried watercolor but my page and curled
kallie....i use watercolor paints...yes....have you glue a few pages together for stability? glue some together and then apply gesso....see if that helps....let me know...go create, go play, go have fun!!!

yes luke....i rip them out of magazines...but good quality magazines so that they do not get too crazy with wrinkles....i hope that helps luke....go create, go play, go have fun!!!! and rip away....
LorriMarie, I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. I got my background ready using gesso and some watered down watercolors. When I added my collage pieces the watercolor color started to lift up and get on some of the paper pieces. Do you know this would be happening and if so is there a solution?Thank you so much.
okay marilyn....here we go....the watercolors are always water soluble...no matter how long they are on the page...sooooo....when you glue things on the water color background...put your modpodge on the focal point and not on the page...work a bit 'dryer'..does that make sense? see you on the table for more fun marilyn...

How do you keep your pages from sticking together when using mod podge? I love mod podge for collage, but every time I use it in my book, the pages stick together and ruin my piece.

Where did you find the great pictures? I am having trouble finding the proper books with the correct signatures. Where do you get yours? I have tried libraries and a few garage sales, any other ideas.

i get my books at thrift stores and library book sales....usually older books vanessa....and the images? art magazines and art books...well....anything i can get my hands on! lol! haute dolls, hi-fructose, juxtapoz, somerset....nothing is safe! lol...i hope that helps...see you on the table!

I have a lot of trouble with things I have decoupaged or collaged getting stuck together when I use Mod Podge. Do you have this problem? What type of mod podge do you use? Matte finish? I live in a humid area, so I'm not sure if that contributes or not, but I know the glossy mod podge definitely sticks together and will rip the collaged pages.
i do use the matte modpodge angela...and that is still no guarantee that the pages won't stick together...darn it...after the modpodge 'completely' cures it should not stick...but...you can sprinkle some baby powder on the pages...that helps...or...rub wax on the pages....good luck! see you on the table angela!

I actually spent several hours in the studio today making tags after watching a few of your videos last night. It's been a while since I worked on any, and you inspired me. I used decoupage glue this time, simply because my mod podge bottle was glued shut and impossible to open! lol But I will try the baby powder idea also. I'm about to watch the one with the toilet paper roll pockets now. Thanks for the great ideas!

I bought a book to try this craft. Its an old book. Could it possibly be too old? The pages are super thin, I almost think they should be a bit thicker. Also what size book should I start with, for example 100 pages, 300 pages, 1000 pages.
yep....some books are too old...too brittle and they break away from the spine too easily....be selective....100 pages would be a great size to start with! great questions tom....thanks! see you on the table!

I love your work and getting lots of inspiration but I have a technical problem. I have never used mod lodge before and it seems like it just never dries. I had finished my first collage and it seemed okay but when I glued my next pages together and sat on it my collage pages stuck together too. Any hints? In the past I ave been advised to dilute acrylic paint and the like to avoid this problem. Should I do that with mod lodge too?
dearest Lesley....thank you for taking the time to ask your question! a few things to ponder...
you can use matte medium to glue your collages together if you are having trouble with the modpodge....are you in a dry climate? use less modpodge on the finished layer?...apply baby powder to the finished page?...i have not heard of adding diluted acrylic to the final page but i love that idea! thanks so much for sharing that idea with me!!! see you on the table!
LorriMarie Jenkins thanks so much for your advice. I have added talcum powder and that seems to have worked. It’s very humid where I live so that may be part of the problem.

hey brianna....thank you for your comment....if the modpodge dries...(cures) completely...your pages will not stick...high humidty and heat are not our friends tho....i put waxed paper between the pages until they are 'cured'....then there is not a problem...a pain...i know! and i get my vintage photos from inventory that i have....been collecting for a minute or two...lol! see you on the table brianna....
