it looks like a women in a garden in deep contemplation. it is amazing how the green and yellow seeped through even as it was covered by tissue paper.

After all the videos I have watched---this is by far my favorite type of background--the layers after layers and so much yummy color!! I just love the way you can play with the acrylics and not worry about any movement of the paint beneath as you add another layer. I am going to work on substrates with this technique and see what I can come up with!! Thank you so much for sharing these techniques and allowing us the education to then play however we want!!

Here’s a trick everyone should use with Stazon ink pads. The plastic insert that comes with the ink pad to help maintain the moisture in is quite a pain to keep track of; one gets ink on ones hands, etc, etc.
Take some pop dots (foam with adhesive on both sides) and put 5 down on the plastic insert in an “X” pattern. Be sure the plastic in on the ink pad correctly, then put on the lid and press down. Now that plastic piece is stuck to the lid in the correct position, like is a part of the lid. No more mess, no more losing it!
i have done that to ONE of those...lol....i wonder where it is! lol...see you on the table....

it would be interesting to see you and the village do a book of Islamic art. Islamic art was all.about words and books. there couldn't be faces but words words words. their books are so special. that is what made me want to do altered books after looking at islamic books in the museum.

I re-watch ur older vids while having coffee alot of mornings LM.. it gets me in the creative mood & inspires me to play on my table! We moved back to Austin TX a week ago (we had been in Sedona for 6 mo) but we couldn't find a place to live!! It's ungodly expensive lol. So I don't have a job now, but I DO have a table to play on now in our studio apt!! (So nice... Bigger than the van studio haha) anyways, u just help me get going everyday siStar 😘 battling a tad of depression so I'm doing art all day long.. it helps. Now if I could just make a living off it! 🤔 Lol. Sending love LM. Ur so awesome.

So very glad I found you. I never knew there was this talent inside me when I stated my Altered Book I made out of cardboard. I use the Amazon link when I see a tool I need. I have not found my way to the village because I can't find you. I will keep trying. I would like to send you a few sheets of this plastic paper I have used that you heat up & becomes hard afterwards. Love love love your work! Always, you are a source of inspiration. I think I will do an altered book for my mom, using old family photographs that we finally got hold of. I plan to incorporate modern pictures of each of us with the old, and write our names in it to aide her in identifying us. Or i hope. I will always have it. I'll make one similar for both sisters.

This is such an easy to add piece of interest to the book--if you remember to do it early in the process of making the book!! LOL Unfortunately, I decided to add them when my book no longer closed, but clips and books on the inside of the page did the trick (another juicy tid bit I picked up from a video of yours)!! 3 toilet paper rolls worked really well in my book for placement- can't wait to make the sticks to put inside!!

I do like this orientation a little better, although I never really thought about it before you switched. It seems a little more personal to me, watching from the same perspective as you. Just a comment on underpants... more is better!! 😂 I was one of those people who didn't understand why you spent the time and material, just to cover it up, but I so get it now! When I actually started working on an altered book, my first pages were so flat. I liken it to cooking. You can't cook a complicated recipe and just sprinkle some salt on at the end - you have to develop the flavor for each layer. It sure pays off in the end result and the same is true with the pages for these beautiful, enchanting books. I appreciate your instruction. I'm hooked.

LorriMarie, I have a question. I just ruined a photo (thankfully, just a newly-printed one and not an original!) when I tried to mod-podge it down to a page in my altered book that had a watercolor background. What do I use to seal my watercolors, so they won't run and bleed when I try to add focal points later? I wrongly ASSUMED that when it dried, I would be fine. 😩
sorry neva....watercolors can always be activated with water...it is important to put the modpodge on THE IMAGE....not the page....make sense? keep on keeping on!

I knew there had to be a reason I've been keeping a variety of paper roll inserts. I saw a suggestion for making them more flexible...I think spraying with water & glycerine, maybe, & then it was put through an embossing machine. Love your layering approach.

I tried to locate the youtube using toilet rolls but can't find it. The glycerine softens the cardboard and converts it so that it's flexible. This shows the process with a piece of cardboard & then it's put through the embosser when wet. Just want to say that the images in many old books are glued in and not stitched into the signatures. They can be removed without undermining the integrity of the book. I'm a digital freak and would have had to either scan or remove that lady! LOL!

I wrap my sandpaper on a wood block and if need be tape it on one side
with the extra paint on brushes and that card, I have a book/s- re-purposed of course :) - and paint the paper with the left over. This can then be used as backgrounds and tags and such :)

sand paper is good stuff except when it no longer has any grit, any ideas on the reuse/recycle concept for that?
i use it on pages, backgrounds, rooftops of city scapes....it is fun stuff....oh no...another thing to not throw out! yikes.....

I do have a question for you...I'm attempting to combine bullet journaling with the mixed media altered book, and I need to know what I can seal my pages with that I can go back and write on. I love the idea of making, for example, a collaged calendar, but I would like to be able to go back and write things in on the dates. Mod podge doesn't really allow for this. (I'm using the matte) Advice??

oh bonnie....we have an amazing 'village' here! i do have some suggestions for you! it depends, ofcourse, what you are writing with...and how much of the background you want to show through...white gesso will give you the bite you are looking for and adds a fun 'cloudy' look....clear gesso will give you the bite...but...will not give you a 'light' background....i hope this helps! see you on the table!!!

LOL I thought you were going to strip for us I'm just kidding seriously it's a joke LOL though I was like what no I love your shirt and I love that you said yay because I say that all the time!! I just said it to my little dog I told him let's go for a walk with Mommy he's my boxer boy he's so special!! I love your work I have been working with texture paste and really loving the results. I didn't have a sanding block but I had a large nail file that work fine. I'm doing a texture paste on watercolor paper and the flower looks 3D with the texture paste I'm just loving it!!
I like the recycle/re-use aspect of using the paper towel roll & ice cream sticks. I knew immediately that I'd like the tabbed pockets & I def like them different lengths. I have many of these things so I might as well dive in, use what I have & play around with this.
I'm sure it felt awkward this time facing you as you're so used to the other way. I only mentioned it on that one video about flipping it as you had said something about trying to figure out which way was which when you do it upside down. Anyway I hope this helps. hey there ash...well....how did i do? was it easier to watch? i will get used to it....since i teach several classes a week, i am used to working upside down...lol...now that is funny! thank you for the tip...i love a challenge...especially if it makes for better viewing! see you on the table...and yes...i love being a 'use what i have artist'! it is way more fun than just going out and buying 'stuff'....
Honestly either way is fine for me as a viewer. You did a good job with the upside down thing. I mentioned the flipping so it would be easier for you but if you teach classes & are used to teaching upside down then go with what you know. Both ways are good & maybe ask others how they feel.
