@Real Men Real Style awesome video. we need more of those style wars between countries. lets take france vs usa next. a question antonio: Can you and aaron marino speak italian fluently?
Hi realmenrealstyle I would strongly disagree with the Italians winning this round I believe the Brits would top it not only because they have been around longer but because the Italians would have taken a lot of ideas off us plus when you said about the British trousers I live in Britain and I have never seen any with cuffs at the bottom
Well said Mike. You would freeze your cahones off in some of that Italian stuff in a northern English climate (but would look good doing it). I gotta say the English style lends itself better to Antonios interchangeable wardrobe system. Difficult to match some of the brighter colours.
Depends where, Italy is a long strip that extend from north to south, in the north, like Lonbardy, or Veneto, the temperature and weather is just the same as Switzerland or Austria, and it's often rainy or foggy. Milan and the Po valley are notorious for the fog.
People have the south style of blazer in mind when they talk about the ones from Italy. The ones from the north look more like a mix of italian whit french/english style
I'm Canadian so no bias here, but the British style is way more my taste. And the varied ways of wearing the suits is something people don't seem to talk about either, the three-piece worn in a casual way without a tie with the top button open is one of the best looks ever! Italian suits have always looked cheap to me nowhere near as well made as the British, it's a privilege to have a suit tailored by a Savile Row tailor, my dream one day!
Well, I’m Italian but I will try to be objective. Pretty much every man can look good in the English style because it’s very elegant and sophisticated. Whereas to look good in the Italian style you have to have style, you have to feel confident in order to pull it off. It’s part of our culture we like to stand out with bright colours. I’ve read the comments and they pretty much all say that English is for work and formal events and Italian is for informal ones; let me say that it’s not true at all, in Italy you can easily go to work wearing light blues, magenta, darker yellows and so on, we don’t judge. Not everyone can pull of the Italian style, you pretty much have to be born in a certain way, you have to be extremely confident so this is why I give it to the Italian style. I must say that I appreciate a lot the English style too because as I’ve said before it’s very elegant and you can’t make mistakes just follow the rules.
On the other end, currently the British style is so formal that makes you stand out in every single occasion that's not the one that particular suit was specifically made for, while with the Italian one you can sit comfortably, tieless and legs crossed, at a cafè, or walk by the sea, and instantly becoming appropriate for a justice court the moment you wear a tie. The Italian style of dressing born in the '50s and '60s, when men of every age and social conditions were expected to wear a suit every time they were not hard working. ( i.pinimg.com/originals/a1/3d/75/a13d755dc96f6ab00f4fac9d8e34819a.jpg ). The British suit is a military uniform adapted to civilian use. The Italian suit is a civilian uniform.
Ludovica Giglio dear god....fashions generally go throughout the world these days.....the double breasted jacket was fashionable in 80s and 90s....the English wear single breasted now....this is a ridiculous analysis...comparing English style to Italians....every nation has its smart and its scruffy people....let make an analysis of the Americans!
Lisa Smith Americans don’t have style, there’s no analysis you can do. I don’t know why you took this so personally. But by the way Your response has nothing to do with what I’ve said! It’s obvious that every country has people that dress well and people that don’t! Dear I’m sorry to break it to you but Italy has the fashion capital! Do I have to name brands? I think you already know. Despite your annoying response I would like to say that I love Great Britain and its culture, I’ve been there a bunch of times, why does it have to be a race? You are considered to be the best at certain things and we are regarded as the best in others! This is the beauty of Europe and its diversity!
Italian all the way. Linen and light summer colors, nice earthy tones in the cooler months. Slim and a second skin. They can pull it off in any situation; casual or formal. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
As much as I love the Italian colours and patterns, I'll have to stick mostly with British myself. I live in Denmark so the weather and general attitude is very similar to the British.
I would say the English gave understated Elegance. They don't need to shout their arrival, their sophistication shows they're there. Look at characters like James Bond.
James bond most used brands have always been Italian: Brioni, Brunello Cucinelli, Gucci, Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo are some of the Italian brands used by the James bond movies (and make up for the majority). The past 2 movies used Tom ford, who was the designer of Gucci before making his own brand. Ford became famous at Gucci, and as stated by him, his style came from the time in Italy. So... you just admited that Italian style is better? I personally think both style have a time and place, and very much depend on the person.
Leonardo David 28 sorry I was actually referring to the classic bond movies. quote from Brands of bond. 'Sean Connery and Roger Moore would quietly grace the screen in suits from their preferred English tailors - Anthony Sinclair for Connery, Cyril Castle and Douglas Hayward (among others) for Moore - not because of any brand promotion, but because they were the best.'
@@general3590 ah... ok. So when you said "look at James Bond" you were referring to two of his movies, Not "James Bond". Also most of the brands I named are from the classics. I think Gucci and TomFord are the only suits Daniel Craig has ever worn as James Bond.
Fact of the matter is, as an Englishman, English suits are just right for all my needs and wants. The only exception being the occasional hot summer's day where an Italian suit would be preferable.
Great video. Antonio, as a Spaniard that has grown up half in Naples, and half in London I can say, not only that you are absolutely right about the peacock thing, it's that they are different suits for different cultures and climates. My favourite? Simple: British for the winter months, and Italian for the warmer climate. British for work, Italian for drinks. Think about it. It is as off putting to find someone in a work environment dressed as a "peacok", as it is boring to be armoured in a sharp British suit while having fun. Take the best of both worlds, because we can!
Thats a very good way of putting it. British is more smart , elegant and classy. Italian is having some fun... and the for the most part only Italians can pull it off.... they can wear scruffy jeans a white tshirt, unshaven ooze style. Brits and Italians totally different animals.
As an Italian, I have to say that many aspects of this narration according to which Italy is a tropical country where the sun always shines are very boring and unreal. Yeah, Italy is not a very cold country but it's not so hot either. Italy is a very long country with several climatic differences from north to south and 35% of its territory is montainous. Just think that where I live (Sondrio, Northern Italy) the average winter temperature is 0 degree Celsius, it snows a lot in winter and the temperature drops under the -5°C during the night. Yes it's true, it doesn't get super cold in Southern Italy but the winter-time is NOT hot... I know that summer is VERY hot, but there are not only four months of the year 😂 I honestly don't know why everyone thinks that Italy is a hot country 🤷♂️🤷♂️ Let me know 👇🏻
When people think of Italian style, they think of southern Italy. They will be wearing bright colors, light fabrics, and slim suits 9 months out of the year.
Mate Italy is miles hotter than the UK. It regularly hits -10 in London and the winter in the UK, defined by when you have to wear a heavy overcoat, lasts from later October until the end of April. I've had snow many times in May in the UK. It's absolutely a different level of climate compared to Italy.
I’ve got my hand up. Nothing beats the beautiful cut of an English suit - no man can ever look bad in one. The Italian suits are beautiful in their own right but a little flamboyant.
Being a lover of both Brittish and Italian styly myself, I really appreciated the way you carefully weigh the two styles here. I wasn't expecting any "draws", because I was expecting your own taste would make either side win in the end, and so I think it was very persuasive and cunning. Thanks for another great clip I saw by you! We'll see if I ever get to become a subscriber. ;-)
I'm a proud Brit, so I'm a bit biased, but for me, British suits and British fashion act are a bit like picture frames- they can be works of art in their own right, but they serve to make the accentuate the painting. The man, his manners and his personality are the painting. I love Italian suits- they're often stunningly made, but sometimes, when looking at them with those very British glasses, it looks like they're trying to make up for something 😉
I have the same biasedness and prefer the British style, colour pallet, the fit almost all the time. However I also moved to the southern US, and I have one or two light weight, breathable Italian suits and they are a god send when stuck in an outside wedding in August.
I'm British but Italians win hands down. The use of colours is effortlessly cool and stylish whilst British style is quite neutral and depressing. P.s British country style is something I admire though
I am not offended or anything, I thought the comment was pretty funny, but... as far as average penis length goes, you have one of the smallest in Europe (Ireland has the smallest), we have the second biggest. Now... I saw this in one of those maps supposed to change how you see the world videos (5m wasted), but the map also showed that the French were the biggest, so I am ok with calling that map "nullified". Seriously tough, an average of 14cm is nothing to be proud of...
In terms of single-breasted jackets, the Italians have way more versatility. They have their more elegant cuts and the more casual cuts, truly made to flatter different stylistic options in the coat. They are also able to match the more reserved drape from the English. That said, the English double-breasted is untouchable.
Italian all the way. Linen and light summer colors, nice earthy tones in the cooler months. Slim and a second skin. They can pull it off in any situation; casual or formal. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 great as always, Antonio! See you next February 👊
I like your video, i'm italian and i simply love playing with colours, even if it's difficult. But I have to admit that i often look to the British style because it's more formal.
Have you ever looked through a men’s fashion magazine from England? They’re as flamboyant as Italian men. French guys dress in a more understated way than either the Italians or the English.
Something like this can not be graded. It comes down to the personality of the man and the idea of how he sees himself. I'm pursuing a doctorate and when I am giving a presentation in front of my peers, a British suit fits ( no pun intended). I am the one speaking, not the clothing. And, my peers are hanging off my words, again not the clothing. In my case, the suit 'should' be both tasteful, ordered and reserved. Antonio is right about the British suit.
Thanks Antonio for explaining the differences. When it comes to suits for me, I’m more on the formal side than the stylish side. And my colors palette is always sober. Wich means I’m more on the english side than the italian for the reasons you said. Stores always try to push the italian on me and I never know how to explain why I don’t like it. Again you putted the words on what bugs me. Keep up the good work, those advices really help!
When it comes to business I prefer the English style. When it comes to social events such as weddings or any other social gatherings I love the Italian style
Great video, Antonio!!! Though I am from India which means the weather here will suit the Italian style, my choice is still English. There is something royal abt dark colors, which is more attractive to me.
Living in Thailand as I do, if I were to go with British style, I'd be cooked hotter and longer than a Sunday roast. I will have to go with the Italians, even if it's only for climate survivability. It's hard to look stylish when you're wilted.
If you live in a place with 4 very different weathers, then you can enjoy both British and Italian styles at different times of the year! The cost of the wardrobe however...
Personally I'm being expected to be as formal as I can get with my business suits, so all of them fit your "British" category (gotta love them dark colored three pieces), but just as you said I really find it fun to break the rules a bit when it comes to colors and patterns in the shirt and tie!
Where I live, we have all 4 seasons. We have cold winters and hot summers. If you can afford it, I like both, English for winter, and Italian for summer.
Yay for Italy!!! We are, in fact, as a people, very loud in every aspect of life. Peacock is actually a good metaphor. But I gotta say I agreed with everything you said in each round, and as a woman I actually am very drawn to that English man style. Good content! I love your channel even though I am a woman.
You ever seen someone look bad in a Savile Row suit? I mean granted, Italian suits are fine specimens but not for everyone - a bit loud - the English cut gets it just right. Also, people say English is only for business - a) why is that bad? And b) tweed is by no means a business suit, it’s for sport, and looks awesome on a colder day.
Amazing video! As a British Italian I can confirm everything you say. I always try to explain my friends over in Italy we don't wear a lot of bright colors over here :)
I like the way they both dress. Love Italian shoes the most but also like British shoes. I prefer the reserved more conservative style over bright flare
The reason why British style is for work and formal events is culture. No way a british work place would allow men to wear bright colours an pattern. I had a work colleague that come to work in the summer wearing white trousers, baby blue shirt, waistcoat & Jacket with a pink tie and pocket square he looked really good. Management told him the attire wasn't appropriate for work. Outside of work British love to have fun with the fashion.
As a woman, I have to say that I much prefer British style - it's elegant and equally masculine. I'm not a fan of the Italian style with bright colours. I think they look camp and the only people who can pull them off are models. But I do think that gay men would great in colourful Italian style clothes.
As an Englishman with a dash of Italian blood, I am a big fan of both styles. Classic British suit tailoring is-in my humble opinion-the default look for any man. Lapels wide but not too wide, tapered waist, and a double vent, with proper surgeon cuffs. There’s a good reason why James Bond has adhered to this look since the early 60s; it’s timeless, elegant, and the cut suits an athletic man perfectly. Our Italian brothers really shine in their ability to put together an outfit from seemingly disparate separates. You’ll often see men in Italy wearing a jacket and pants combo that simply shouldn’t work, but they manage to pull it off. The real challenge is to combine that British elegance with Italian flair and style. As an old tailor once told me; put your outfit together with some thought, put your clothes on with care, and then forget you’re wearing them
It is a bit hard to generalise Italian tailoring without over generalisation! This is because each region is diverse I. The Neapolitan, the Venetian and the Milanese. But if I could say one thing it is easier to wear an Italian jacket without s tie usually due to its “spalla camicia” shirt style shoulder making it easier to wear casually!
I think it depends on where you live. Italian style, I find, is easier in Miami than English. Weather and culture just make Italian style easier overall. English I see works more in colder regions. Italian style just stands out too much in cities like NY and Pennsylvania. It's weird, but the culture really determines what looks wierd. You really stand out in English style attire in Miami and people look at your normal in Italian. Welp, that is my two cents.
Love you but honestly... That jacket is just... No, it looks like you are going to a wedding on top of Mount Everest but really wanted your sports coat so you asked your tailor to sew on a puffy vest from the 80s to it

Seriously tough, an average of 14cm is nothing to be proud of...
Being half English half Italian I think the English reign supreme in menswear, they (we) are the measuring stick of style
What I love about this channel is the quality of the videos. They have English subtitles, which are great for an English-learner like me!
In terms of single-breasted jackets, the Italians have way more versatility. They have their more elegant cuts and the more casual cuts, truly made to flatter different stylistic options in the coat. They are also able to match the more reserved drape from the English.
That said, the English double-breasted is untouchable.
i like both of these.. i like the sophisticated look of the british and the summer vacation look of the italian..
I love 🇮🇹 fabrics and clothing as I prefer to stand out. However the British clothing is decent. Great video!!
Italian all the way. Linen and light summer colors, nice earthy tones in the cooler months. Slim and a second skin. They can pull it off in any situation; casual or formal. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 great as always, Antonio! See you next February 👊
Nah - Italian fashion can't deal with a proper Northern European winter.
@@JoBlakeLisbon That's like saying lions and tigers can't handle proper antartica weather.
Italy rules. Fast cars hot women and pizza can’t beat it. Semper Fi
David get a sense of humor
British cars faster though...
@@ukgdbml52 really???? Which one though?
They eat more than Pizza you know🤦🏻♂️ have you ever been to Italy?
Italia. 👍
both of them are fantastic and well dressed
Even as a Brit, I'm glad it was decisive. TBH I expected a draw and the standard "They are both great, depends on your requirements"
These comparisons will help us dive deeper in the realm of fashion. I would love it if you do more of them.
I like your video, i'm italian and i simply love playing with colours, even if it's difficult. But I have to admit that i often look to the British style because it's more formal.
AlphaM must be happy hearing em italians win.
For sure.
Have you ever looked through a men’s fashion magazine from England? They’re as flamboyant as Italian men. French guys dress in a more understated way than either the Italians or the English.
I prefer the british style more. There's a certain sexiness with simplicity.
British style is purposefully boring and not sexy at all
When we have 40 Celsius degrees in Summer, there's no suit dressable.... Anyway linen Is "mandatory" in light colors. 😋🇮🇹
It is indeed mandatory for summer suits, these tailored the British way.
Let's leave flamboyance for those who need attention.
British styles are full of elegance.
Fellow Brits here?
Ay ay
You slaaaaag!!!!
yes guv'nor
I have nothing to declare but my name, Sir.
Pip, pip, cheerio and down with the Nazis.
The English cut is unbeatable!
When it comes to business I prefer the English style. When it comes to social events such as weddings or any other social gatherings I love the Italian style
This comparison was pretty accurate. At the end of the day I believe Italy is the king of fashion overall
Thanks for another excellent video Antonio. Your effort is always appreciated.
100% agree :)
I'm italian but from this video I would choose english style. It's Mafia vs Peaky blinders after all
British style is, Tradition; timeless/classy, and comfort
Italian style, Edgy, dared; quality.
I really love how British men dressed in 19th century
Personally I'm being expected to be as formal as I can get with my business suits, so all of them fit your "British" category (gotta love them dark colored three pieces), but just as you said I really find it fun to break the rules a bit when it comes to colors and patterns in the shirt and tie!
Where I live, we have all 4 seasons. We have cold winters and hot summers. If you can afford it, I like both, English for winter, and Italian for summer.
RUclips has made a good recommendation for this channel. I'm beginning a new lifestyle change and want to dress better this is an awesome channel!
My preference is the English style. Everyone should have it as their basis. But for the few who can pull off Italian, God bless you!
It's easyer to be elegant with british style. Who seek sprezzatura, that's the way to go.
It's right.Italian suits deserve it.It is suitable for lean men because it builds the chest superbly.
I think both cultures have very very nice style.
Italian for sure
The reason why British style is for work and formal events is culture. No way a british work place would allow men to wear bright colours an pattern. I had a work colleague that come to work in the summer wearing white trousers, baby blue shirt, waistcoat & Jacket with a pink tie and pocket square he looked really good. Management told him the attire wasn't appropriate for work. Outside of work British love to have fun with the fashion.
Italians have better overall style from casual to formal but the Brits can pull off a more dressy look for sure.
As a woman, I have to say that I much prefer British style - it's elegant and equally masculine. I'm not a fan of the Italian style with bright colours. I think they look camp and the only people who can pull them off are models. But I do think that gay men would great in colourful Italian style clothes.
Both are really good but i personally prefer italian style
We wouldn't be where we are today without Italians! 🇮🇹
About design and style, Italians are the best in everything 👍🇮🇹
I’m English and I wear baggy shirts for casual wear(without a blazer) and a medium tightness shirt for tightness
I like to see when a person knows what they’re talking about, well done. This earns a “subscribe” button.
Molto Bella Italia💖
Bellissima Regno Unito💖
For me its simple .
autaum and winter = english style
Spring and summer = italien style
I'm Italian , but British for winter , Italian for summer-springtime it's a perfect way
I really enjoy these comparison videos for their sheer educational value.
Seems skin tone has a lot to consider with the colors. Mediterranean olive typeskin also goes well with brighter colors.
As an old tailor once told me; put your outfit together with some thought, put your clothes on with care, and then forget you’re wearing them
I prefer italian, its more entertaining
Im British but i dress like a Italian!!
The best is the Eastern Europe suit, the Adidas tracksuit 😂🤣, only a gopnik know what I mean
Italian of every category for me
It is a bit hard to generalise Italian tailoring without over generalisation! This is because each region is diverse I. The Neapolitan, the Venetian and the Milanese.
But if I could say one thing it is easier to wear an Italian jacket without s tie usually due to its “spalla camicia” shirt style shoulder making it easier to wear casually!
British for Business, Italian for Dates/Vacations/Going out/Traveling, etc.
No, it looks like you are going to a wedding on top of Mount Everest but really wanted your sports coat so you asked your tailor to sew on a puffy vest from the 80s to it
Samuel Karnbo 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 so true
I like the jacket. Finally something more individual than just a regular one
Italian fashion is the best in the world nothing more nothing less.
Felix Servidad But what about style?
I dont know, the french one is pretty on point, anyway eurozone these days all dress like mericans😂
Having best of both worlds!
Grande! I'm italian and I'm very proud of my country but in the in end... I prefer English style ( : cheers
Italian: you look modern, European, fresh
British: you look Mr. Bean.
I really love Italian suits in light weight fabrics for summer wear or if I’m dressing up on vacation in warmer places
My mom is Irish, I always wear an Irish cap so english suits work best for my style. I also just prefer the characteristics and cut of them
Arguably the best thing that has ever come out of Great Britain, after music bands and actors, is their fashion.
Music, actors...
@@bathrat You know what? The other day talking to a British friend I said the exact same thing. I said music and then actors. Im gonna edit this comment.
Italian be where I live it’s been over 100 degrees since May.
