What is your preferred cut in tailoring? Continental European, English Drape, or American Sack Cut?
Let’s discuss ….
PROFF
I like the american gangster look is it called zoot suit which you are wearing at the end. But as you say it deoends on the person. If the person was very thin i dont think the wide suite would look good at all. I generally do not like too skinnt suites that show creases and bulges but a skinny man eould wear shuch a suite very well. My son has always like suiites and hes very tall and thin even a skinny suite looks just right on his bidy.

Since he showed up in my feed I've been doing the same. He has helped me realize why I don't like modern fashion and what I can do to fix the ill fitting suits.
I believe every man should own at least one. Get a gray suit & you can wear it for interviews, to the office, to a funeral, to a party, etc it's the best all-rounder

This is the politest way to say Italians don't cut suits for us "low hangers" ever seen 😂
My Sicilian ex fiance would vehemently disagree though, she liked that tight fit for some reason.
My coworker wore a suit every day. He was one of the few men who did. Too often he would have doubts about losing his hair and other issues. I finally told him how utterly fabulous and sexy he looked in those suits, and I was not alone in saying so. He finally seemed a bit more confident and smiled more often. He just didn’t realize how magnetic he appeared wearing those fabulous suits, subtle cologne and that beautiful smile. I miss my friend from work. He was a great friend and gentleman.
I’ve never wore suite or dress classic in my life but I’m starting soon because of you Sir
We italians are smaller on average than British people so our suits are more slim
Very honestly said 🙌🏾
Thank you and a warm welcome to AskOkey GigaMogged 😁
PROFF
Why would that matter if the suit is tailored to the specific dimensions of the customer?
@@hankschrader2353If you have a tall and lanky person, extra fabric, or wide, unstructured garments, may make them look as though they are swimming in extra fabric. Typically, these people need stiffer/structured garments than people who are visually wider or have larger bones. (For women, the normal "Italian" look would fall in the Dramatic types, but I believe many of the same principles apply to men)
People who are, at least, visually wider can work with more unstructured/looser garments. (Like, say, the flamboyant naturals.) These people might even look stifled(?)/too serious(?) (can't find a better word right now) in more structured garments.
So yes, you're right: It's about dimensions. Take a tall and lanky Italian man, make him 10 feet tall, and put him in an Italian suit, and he'd look great. Take this man, for example, and make him 10 feet tall, and he'd probably still look better in the English cut
@@hankschrader2353because a slim suit on a chubby guy might not look so good
It’s frustrating because I much prefer Neapolitan style to the British style (even though I’m British) but you rarely find a full cut, especially in the trousers
I really don't know why i enjoy these videos so much.... Im probably the least scrupulous individual you'd ever meet, I could give a care in the world about what I wear, (trying to improve on that) and yet i find these shorts very informative and entertaining!!!
Side question, does the prof make his own clothes?

I love the understated elegance
I personally prefer the 1930s close fit because it shows off the angles of how well tailored the suit is that’s why I prefer the close fit on the upper and loose fit on the bottom because it really shows the drape of the trousers and the top part shows how well tailored the blazer is but the close fit style only works good for slim people as in the video you showed bigger guys in it and looked like they were stifled.
And that is the exact point Lawful.

My two biggest issues with tailoring is: 1. the crotch and seat areas being cut and sewn too small and constricting. I always have to double stress to tailors that I don’t want this. 2. My muscle mass constantly fluctuates so sometimes it seems like tailoring is a waste of money.

In the 1990s, I purchase only Giorgio Armani suits averaging $1300-1700 each. The tailors at Sacks, Barneys and Bloomingdales had to take the entire suits apart & tailor them to my physique. The fabrics were great. Then, I bought some very expensive fabric and got a tailored suit! All 15 Armani suits were no match to the tailored suits.

I'm in the same boat. 6 foot with a 49 inch chest and 19 inch neck. Nothing fits off the rack. Any shirt or jacket that fits is absurdly long on the arm.
I agree that for years, I had to buy athletic fit attire. Until I realized tailored made suits, shirts, pants, and jackets were the best look and fit for me...... 😊

And I agree the neopolitan is not for every body, for me an in between seems a happy medium.
One area that has always bothered me is the jacket length, for most of the worlds men a length below the end of the seat and just below the crotch, makes for a beautiful balance and drape ✌️

In tailoring only we can get pleat of our choice pocket of one choice in trousers. Nowadays, I go for more forward pleats. I ordered for one forward
and reverse , that forms a 'V' pleat, but my changed first pleat (from pocket area ) into reverse pleat this I got one V pleat and box in my Gurkha....👖😊. I am an ardent fan of tailored cloths

The funny part about this comment section is most of the people here are actually out of shape and is just using this vid as a coping mechanism. When somebody works hard to develop a physique, there's nothing wrong in wanting to show it.
I agree . I work in construction so My daily wear is Carhartt pants T Shirt Safety vest and a light or heavy jacket sometimes a shirt too. When I do wear a suit I prefer the looser fit . This gentleman's clothing advice is succint...not one to mince or waste words....with that, and his voice intonation,
taking his advice, and watching his videos will be quite easy for me.
The way i see it, each cut serves for a different part of the week; Italian for evening events, to boost one'sconfidence. British for comfortable leisure in sunlight. And French for balanced workdays. American for when everything is at the dry cleaners (just kidding)

I do think there’s a greater lesson in what you’ve said here which goes beyond tailored garments which is this; we’re all unique, we all have different bodies, tastes and preferences. Everyone deserves to be authentic to themselves be it in the expression of their clothing or whatever else it may concern. Take it the right way but; Life is too short to be PROFF trying to fit into a slim Italian suit, so to speak. 😅 Find your style whatever the context is. You all deserve that much.
