My mom has been doing this from my hair since primary which I started in 2004 and she's been doing it to her hair for longer she's 58. It's an ancient hairstyle here in Botswana.
Sorry if someone else already mentioned this, but there are plastic yarn needles that one can buy at a craft store or fabric store. For example, in the USA, Michaels has them for 99 cents and Jo-Ann Stores has them for $1.99.
Never learnt to do the flat twist. But I'm a pro at cornrows... Made a detailed video on my channel. Will definitely try now that you've showed how. Thanks Adanna

I tried this with a rubber needle cos I was scared of accidents but it didn’t go well 😂. After watching this video, I’m encouraged to try again.
