- @Gridlife Circuit Legends at Lime Rock Park this year was a great time! We managed to see A LOT of our wheels around the festival and got to catch up with Ben from @GearsandGasoline to talk about his MR2 Spyder Build that they brought to Gridlife this year! This MR2 has come A LONG WAY since the time Ben purchased it. Now, it's a fully-built track car that races in the wheel-to-wheel #GLTC series.
Running an oddball of an engine setup, this MR2 features a 2AR-FXE engine out of a Camry Hybrid, with a Scion TC 6-speed transmission, and custom parts all around. Most people would K-Swap in a situation like this, but the guys at Gears and Gasoline decided to stay as Toyota as possible, with help from builder @FrankensteinMotorworks ! We had a great time taking a walk around the MR2 build, check it out and LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK below in the comments!

Man G&G are way behind on their own videos. The one I watched this morning just had the temp wheels mounted and still 2 different colors and no livery.

12.5 lbs per HP is ridiculously high.
you'd have to add almost 600lbs of ballast to a 370z lol
Most higher WHP cars are defined and taking power away, usually with drive by wire throttle bodies
This has to be one of the heaviest MR2 Spyders in the world lol. 230x12.5=2875
@@millll111lllI probably closer to 200hp / 2500lbs when you add to the stock weight, the weight of the engine, roll cage and such.. probably are closer to 2200-2400 lbs

@@vizualmrs MR-S is Japanese only. MR2 Spyder in the U.S.
@@_Bonez12 Australia might be MR-S too. Europe is MR2 Roadster. Not sure what South Africa calls them. Anyway, they are all the same thing.
@@vizualmrs US car so officially Spyder here but yeah they are all the same except in some places the steering wheel is on a different side.

@@izzy031096 He blew it up on the last lap of the first race. I dunno exactly what went wrong but the 2AR is just not a reliable engine for racing. Both him and Mark blew up thier 2AR MRS this year.
@@zerohikari2685 From what I heard it was an axle that failed on Ben's. And Marc's engine had been endurance raced for years and only failed because someone money shifted it up to like 9k, and even then it still did another 9 hours or so.
@@Mesder13 1.) Car was smoking, breaking an axle doesn't cause your car to smoke. 2.) You can literally walk into Advanced and pick up a new Scion TC axle so if it was an axle, why didn't he race in any of the other 3 races. 3.) Marks engine "breaking cause of the money shift" is BS. It broke because it's internals are weak cause it's an economy motor.
Also stop believing anything Mark says. The guy is literally trying to sell people his parts for 2AR swaps. He is a salesmen and this entire G&G colab was marketing for his parts. He's never going to say anything is wrong with a 2AR because his buisness revolves around it.
@@zerohikari2685 for one, they aren't off the shelf axles, it's scion TC on the inside, MR2 on the outside, some other Toyota in the middle, and you have to build them yourself. I'm guessing he didn't bring spares. I'll wait for the G&G video for a better explanation. As for your other points, I don't know what the 2ar ever did to you, but you're free to your own opinions : )
