    personal observation:
    1. Sim card - i'm always traveling with a global sim card installed as a second sim in my android phone. when arriving to the destination country, I purchase a local sim. this allows me the flexibility to wait and purchase the local sim at lower price and better terms than the sim sold in the airport.
    2. Money exchange - some of us are charged high fees by our domestic credit card company so we prefer to carry cash and exchange USD to VND. It's perhapse worth mentioning that for cash exchange, gold and jewlery stores are a good places to exchange money in Vietnam

    Subscribed. Great videos, well presented, and getting better with each one. Coming to Vietnam for 3rd time in October. Father retired outside of HCM years ago. Hoping to go fly to Da Nang for up to a week, so I've watched all your Da Nang videos. 2 rooms in that Sala hotel would be great but relatively pretty steep...and have to get 2 rooms. Sami, the AOA Hotel is nearby, ever heard of it? Seems not terrible, super cheap, but has some bad reviews. In between An Thuong 1 and 2. At least 2 or 3 similar hotels there. I know you are not the damn Da Nang Tourist Board, hehe, but I'd buy you another coconut coffee to check it out!
    Was in Da Lat for a few days last time. Really liked it, nice and cool, clean and new. Not as much stuff for Westerners and a bit more expensive, but still really good. Like newlywed getaway for the locals. Any plans to branch out and do some videos of other VN cities once you run out of Da Nang content?

    Well covered. When I arrived my card was not accepted at any ATM I could find at the airport or at the few my taxi driver kindly stopped at on the way to my hotel. Thankfully he was happy to accept $US. And my hotel let me sort it in the morning. The only ATM I found that worked for me was BIDV which I had missed at the airport. Apparently this is not unusual in Vietnam so don't assume any ATM will do. They also have quite low withdrawal limits which can be a pain if you are paying large amounts like monthly rent.

    Hi. Good, informative video! What type of accomodation would you recommend for those staying 1 month? You mentioned staying in a hotel for a few nights, then renting a room, and I can see how that approach may work for long stays. But will it work for one month only? Whould you recommend airbnb?

    • @socialsamy
      @socialsamy  2 месяца назад +1

      I tried Airbnb 2 times in Da Nang.
      First time they cancelled me on my day of arrival.
      Second time it was so bad I went to a hotel and let them clean 3 times.
      They went out of business few months later.
      All super hosts and perfect reviews.
      All FAKE.
      I would rather use agoda or even booking to get something. Before I had my apartment I stayed in few hotels 2 weeks at a time since I did not see the need of cooking here.
      What I would recommend is going into a hotel/serviced apartment but then it comes to what your budget is.
      I did review lots of options already and more to come in the next weeks.
      I think in the low season and 1-2 days of work you can get a good monthly rental on arrival but then it comes to what is your time worth the savings :)
      Sorry for the long answer but I would need more infos 🙏

    coming from america..everything here is based around a tipping culture anymore. is it common practice to tip drivers, hotel staff, restaurant staff etc... or is it not needed or is it frowned upon there and seen as disrespectful (i have heard that tipping in some cultures is considered rude..not sure though)? thank you for the great videos btw.

    • @socialsamy
      @socialsamy  2 месяца назад +1

      @@npeltack I just filmed a video about it coming out tomorrow but in short no this country is not part of any tipping culture.
      Some places even write big on the door “no tipping”
      With local businesses you will almost not even be able to tip without creating an awkward situation.
      How ever if someone goes out of their way to help you further then doing their job I think you should consider giving her/him a tip :) and for me for example I always give tip to cleaning personal in hotels (leaving it strategically on the corner of the bed) but that’s how I was raised in Germany.(and if the barber actually does a good job then too but that’s me)
      No one in this country will ever expect any tip from you.
      If you life here and you want to show appreciation to specific people the lunar new year is a great date putting money into a red envelope (lucky money) 🧧 and handing them over to:)

    I wouldn't advise anyone to use a currency exchange in an airport EVER! Hit the ATM and take out a minimum amount of local currency, hopefully using a fee-refunding card that also has no foreign exchange fees. In U.S., debit cards like Schwab offer those features. Secondly, never buy a SIM at an airport! If ones phone can't utilize an eSIM like Airalo or Holafly, just wait a bit longer and get a SIM at some other place. Next, transportation from the airport to your lodging can usually be arranged online before you arrive. Highly recommended as taxi scams are ubiquitous at every international airport and having prearranged transportation not only allows one to know what they're paying upfront, but also allows one to dodge the army of taxi con-persons just outside the exit doors.

      Grab because I like paying with my credit card right in the app. Somehow the vinfast app doesn’t allow that so you have to either pay with card after the ride(unconvient) or cash.
      My friends however love the premium vinfast rides it’s very nice, smell good and comfy.
