Here is a tip: If you do not have a Viet sim card be sure you order your Grab before you leave the airport building because the free wi-fi will not work even 1 meter away from the building!

The first scammers you will meet in Vietnam are those who sell sim cards in the airport. Neither Vinaphone nor Viettel has an official store at the airport. Those are scammers selling you SIM cards under the name of the previous owners of the cards. It means that at some point the card might get blocked and you can't get customer service if needed because the card is not under your name (the scammers ask for your passport just to make it look like they make the sim under your name).

I had Vietnam Airlines ask for proof of return flight in Tokyo. I hadnt booked it yet but I could show my trans-Pacific cruise out of Yokohama 2 months later. They still wouldn't let me board. I asked for the Supervisor and she had me sign that release letter David mentioned.

I am an American living in Thailand. My Thai wife, niece and I flew from Bangkok to Danang in July 2024. I assumed an eVISA meant I could get a VISA at the airport. No one (airline check-in and two immigration checks) mentioned a VISA. When I arrived in Danang, immigration refused entry and I was required to fly back to Bangkok. My wife and niece stayed since we made reservations at several hotels fo ra 5-day stay. I applied for a new VISA online using an agency after paying $165! I flew back to Danang the next morning [at my expense] and was issued a VISA.

But will extend my visa going out of the country before feb 24 😅 and returning back so I catch my April 2 flight 😊🤣
You had a good point about outbound flight ticket 😊 I will buy one on the day I fly so I can show it as proof 😊

Also Samy, you don't need to walk down where you did to the Gab from domestics. You can walk straight across the road from arrival, there is a little grab station where you can sit.. yes there are scouts there to try an entice you to get a grab with them... so for sure use the app and they will pick you up from there (literally across the road) 🙂 Fill in all Visa based on your passport - they use that to check your details, if it doesn't match you are likely to be rejected - thanks for the videos really enjoy them.

Thank you another good video very helpful for first trip to Vietnam. Air Asia doesn't have a spot for your middle name and I didn't have any problems getting into Vietnam. Even though I seen your videos on not taking the other grab drivers I did the only time ripped off in Vietnam. He wanted me to pay for his parking at the airport a lot more then 10,000 dong. I had to tell him I was going to call police and the hotel had police outside still paid him too much he had no change so he said. When you get money at the ATM is is all large bills probably next time will buy something there to get change for grab taxi.

Great advice re Vietnam visas. I've been going to Vietnam for over fifteen years and never had a problem with visa on arrival/evisa until last year when I also got rejected for not including my middle name. Ridiculous seeing they had a photo copy of my passport's main page but what can you do. Luckily no hassles this year gaining visas for two trips. Pity there isn't a public bus from the airport to the beach. I now use the public bus to D1 from the Saigon airport.

The important point about names and other information is it must match exactly what is on your passport. I failed first time with my girlfriends visa as she is from Honduras and they have two last names. It is not about middle names or last names. It must be identical to what the passport says so if you passport has two names or ten names it must match. The same with any other information you provide. Obvious really but confusing as the form uses singular labels like "forename" instead off "forenames" etc.
