    One of the hardest things to do when making alien/futuristic armies is in making it look both alien and relatable to human contemporaries. One thing this game does really well is making it quick and easy to determine what is light armour, what is the MBT, what is the heavy armour while still maintaining a very alien design.

    Man, do I wish the Scrin could be explored more in the future... Properly, I mean.
    They were my favourite aspect of C&C 3 by far! Even more so when I learned we were playing as a "mining corporation" of sorts, not necessarily their actual military branch!
    There are some mods out there like Tiberium Essence which lowkey "reinvent" the Scrin and add a ton of different, more "solid" looking units and vehicles.
    I like to imagine those being the true military branch of the Scrin, more advanced and combat oriented, while the Scrin from vanilla Tiberium Wars is the mining corporation version, with possibly better Tiberium collection but its military units are essentially "outdated" paramilitary forces (they get the job done, but are not the best).
    But BOY, do I wish the franchise could've explored that more deeply! Maybe even extend the story into other worlds and possibly add a second alien faction, that opposed the Scrin and also Earth (if GDI and Nod took to spacefaring as well).
    Of course, that would recquire a developer who cared.
    *And the most care I can see EA taking is **_MAYBE_** remastering Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2.* (again, _MAYBE_ )

    • @shoulderpyro
      @shoulderpyro Год назад +22

      Oh gods imagine if GDI and Nod both went into space faring as well, and you'd have to manage C&C style space battles. Mining tiberium asteroids instead for resources, and making things like fighters, bombers, larger warships, etc. while upgrading/extending a space station with additional solar/nuclear/tiberium generators and docking bays/drydocks

      Hell, the Banshees of Nod already look spaceworthy. A few adjustments to the Orcas and we got those running too.
      And the Scrin? Eh.. well, their entire thing is already air/space based so they can even re-use some of their units. Like the Assault Carriers being used as smaller corvettes instead to harass smaller GDI/Nod vessels and screen the larger Scrin ships

    I remember that in the campaign, the harvesters had a unique ability to summon a ion storm upon its destruction. This would only happen if it had stored tiberium and the duration of the storm would be dependent on the quantity the harvester had upon its death.
    I only remember this occurring in the campaign on the disk version, rarely see it occur in the PC version. My guess it patched out in an update and the disk retained it.

      As far as I know it has nothing to do with campaign or Tiberium: In the early versions of the game, every scrin harvester had this feature to give them "something interesting", like Nod stealth or GDI gun. In later versions of the game, like one of the earlier patches, it got removed.

If you wanted to kill a group of them, you had no choice but to sacrifice your army. Also the Scrin commander had then to constantly replace them. It was too punishing for both sides. So they replaced it with the tiberium regeneration.

    I'd still disagree with calling the Scrin contingent a civilian one rather then a military one as the forces we fight are and were brought to quell the remaining resistance on the planet. Reaper and Traveller themselves are dedicated military organisations of some sort for extermination or subjugation respectively.
    A closer comparison to civilian or military might be in calling them a Private Military Company whom are escorting the commanding mining Foreman. Not precisely a state military, but also unlikely to be far removed from one either.
    A tripod is clearly not the Toyota Truck of the Scrin, that is a weapon of war.

    • @Tazkar
      @Tazkar Год назад +14

      They are more of a civilian contingent in that the units are more for Security detail for the mining operation as opposed to an actual invasion force. Since by the time the Mining Foreman shows up on a world the Tiberium should have rendered it basically uninhabitable to anything else.
      Though Civilian is still a bit of a misnomer I'd agree, but I think he was just emphasizing how it wasn't an actual proper invasion force at all.

    They only came to earth because they thought the planet had been converted entirely by the Tiberium which would probably have meant a lot less resistance, but now that they know humanity might be able to reverse the spread of tiberium, they might just send an actual army to remove the threat before it becomes too much to deal with...

    I still want to see a clash between a truly global GDI and a proper planetary invasion and conquest force of Scrin; an all but entirely united humanity and a non-mining force of Scrin headed by Foreman 371 who would have been promoted for his efforts into either a Supervisor or whatever the Scrin would have for their military, and taking orders directly from the Overlord, this time when they come in one of their first actions to show they mean business is instead of getting blasted by the ion cannon, blasting it out of orbit and a GDI mission would be launching a rocket or something else to deploy a second one or an array to decimate further attempts by the Scrin to land on the planet.

    Considering these vehicles are meant to be used as ‘utility units’, maybe they are meant to be used to look for and carve out for tiberium located in certain areas where it may require greater force and “weapons”. I’ll prolly comment later to eleborate on the possible application of these vehicles.
    Edit: check replies to see my research.

    • @isthischannelstillalive9062
      @isthischannelstillalive9062 Год назад

      Gun Walkers are possibly used to pick at tiberium crystals, located in higher areas like on ceilings of cave system or such areas where tiberium is higher elevated. Possibly much cheaper too, compared to using gravity stabilizers. This also makes them effective against infantry, since the focused plasma (beam or whatever) can land a potent strike on living things that aren’t metallic or in structures.
      This is a system of replies, this is part 1.

    • @isthischannelstillalive9062
      @isthischannelstillalive9062 Год назад

      Seekers are fast vehicles that could’ve been used to scout for tiberium crystals located farther from a base. The disk launcher is likely used to do the same thing as would the gun walker, chip and pick at tiberium crystals. The hover part gives it a higher mobility advantage, allowing all-terrain movement better than a gun walker. The disk in question are also better at hitting harder at more durable areas, allowing the tracking of the disk to hit air targets easier and for hitting armor more effectively.
      Part 2

    • @isthischannelstillalive9062
      @isthischannelstillalive9062 Год назад

      Corrupters serve the part as either clearing out biological matter in certain areas or to get through certain obstructions. The tiberium based concoction serves to ensure that obstacles could be melted away with ease, but as it’s name suggest, it’ll likely corrupt the area and cause living creature to become viseroids by mistake (maybe on purpose at times). The fluid is also capable for melting buildings as mentioned, and could very easily kill any living matter if not protected. Practically, the acid is meant to get rid of obstruction and melt things to find tiberium, but can kill anything else.
      Part 3
      Update: The healing factor of Corruptors works at healing other Scrim ‘vehicles’ likely due to them being literally tiberium based organisms, meaning it’s literally patching up the damage with the concoction (the mix might contain some healing chemical that could make it so it heals them, but its absolutely toxic to everything that isn’t tiberium based).

    • @isthischannelstillalive9062
      @isthischannelstillalive9062 Год назад

      The Devour could function in the sense that it could properly carve through most tough materials. The beam used by the ‘tanks’ can carve through possibly giant or big rocks that contain tiberium and might require more power. The ‘charging’ feature might be used incase it needs more power, depending on the strength of the materials it’s trying to carve through. The combat capability is the obvious range it has against vehicles or buildings with defenses, the beam can shread through vehicle armore or infrastructure with little to no effort, but the issue of no air defense gives it an issue. It is still a durable vehicle, so within that time support could come in when it’s in a pickle.
      Part 4

    • @isthischannelstillalive9062
      @isthischannelstillalive9062 Год назад

      The Mechapede (apologies if spelled wrong) is like a jack-of-all-trades kind of ‘vehicle’, capable of being equipped with a variety of tools at its disposal depending on the situation and tools needed. Beams for carving, disk for picking, corrupter fluid for either clearing or repair, and shards (a complicated guess) are used to either clear hostile wildlife or as an actual weapon. The capability of combat for Mechapedes is likely meant for fast or blitzkriegs on the frontlines of a foe, since if the segments break or it’s freshly produced makes it versatile against in some combat situation. Of course, it’s worth noting that these weapons may have less power compared to the actual weapon.

      I heard that the story would've revolved around Earth having been conquered and enslaved by the Scrin _(clearly the Cult of Reaper were not involved)_ and our character's story arc in this new world.
      That setting sounds so fucking awesome!
      Imagine, both GDI and Nod, forced to serve the "Scrin Confederacy" _(someone once came up with the name and I loved it)_ and anything they develop and employ are observed by the Scrin and geared towards serving them, unless both factions wish to lose any protection guarantees for humanity.
      So both sides are under constant survaillance and even having their forces teleported to other worlds, either to simply help harvest Tiberium faster or to deal with the local lifeforms as expendable frontline forces. _Thus, naturally, they each secretly plot some way to be free of the Scrin's control through one way or another._ And your playable character, unbeknownst to himself, would eventually play a key part in helping that happen... or not.
      _But_ OF COURSE *_EA had to literally shoot down that very cool idea_*_ and instead aim for something_ not only generic, not only a downgrade (no Scrin), but also NOT WELL MADE AT ALL!
      And don't get me wrong, the giant walker mobile base is very cool, but it was used SO WRONG on top of everything that was... *that unspeakable title!* DX
      _SIGH... Remember when EA used to at least make good games, even after closing down studios like Westwood?_ *Those were the days...* T__T
