Am I the only one who's never actually managed to get the Redeemer's rage generator to work? Or is that just me? Because I swear I have never ONCE seen it actually have an effect on enemy units.
I don't blame you, it isn't very intuitive; even Jethild failed to use it right in this vid. The thing many new or casual players don't realize is that the rage generator doesn't force units that are already shooting at something to forget their current target. It only prevents the units from receiving any further orders and causes them to see friendly units as enemies, but units only auto-acquire new targets once their current target is dead. It works best on units that are either idle or moving around but not yet in range to attack one of your units. Thus it's not a 'get off me' tool to be used when a fight is going poorly as unfamiliar players assume it is, but to be used just before a fight to get a good engage on the enemy army. In fact, highly experienced players will exploit how the rage generator works by closely watching the enemy Redeemer for the start of its rage generator animation, once they see it they force attack the ground near their units so they spend the full duration attacking the ground instead of their own units. If you're Nod or MOK it can be a very good idea to use the stealth support power on your redeemer.
@@Toast_94 dude, that makes so much sense! Thanks! I never realized that. Yooo another C&C lore video! Awesome dude, I always look forward to watching these. Keep it up man. Your videos have helped me a great deal over the past year to deal with some personal stuff, thanks dude.
I imagine some of it was used for the Purifier first, just a massively scaled down production model with Marcion's personal touches (perhaps Slavik was in the middle of reverse engineering it when he was killed and Marcion made off with the plans) then when the Black Hand was reintegrated Kane restored some features and tried to make it more versatile. I imagine they weren't able to produce it until they stole some of the information from GDI's MARV due to the loss of some necessary information on how to construct such massive vehicles when CABAL was initially defeated and Kane and Legion simply didn't have the time or resources to recover the data.
I can’t remember if subterranean vehicles could surface in Tiberium fields in the 2nd war. Maybe a theory for nod abandoning them could be that they couldn’t work in environments where Tiberium has thoughtfully infested for structural integrity or biological survivability reasons. So by the time of the 3rd wars they would only be of use in a small part of the blue zones and not worth the upkeep efforts.
Scorpion tank of Third Tiberium War fame looks like someone put Strv103 inspired "hull"/turret upon Komatsu excavator and gave it a "trench tail" with separate track. Given how Kane started off formation of Brotherhood by siphoning off soviet funds and equipment, before proceeding to do the same to Yugoslavia and PRC, I have a feeling that light tank 76mm cannon may be implying PT-76 tanks or at least their armaments usage. After all, Nod might have been forced to construct their own vehicles from components "misplaced" by their "donors" thus ending with a Type 62 equipped with D-56T gun. Or maybe the Type 62 was simply not ready for their reality version of WWII and instead a prototype of Type 62 aka Type 59-16 was instead finished and pressed into service.
There really is something to be said for just how diverse nods tactics become over the years. They start off with simple hit and run with little more and by the end have stealth, emp, mechanical brain indoctrination/manipulation, and a far improved defence grid to provide a safehaven for such tactics to come from.
Ever since I was in high school, I had this whole headcanon for the Red Alert era light and medium tank depictions simply being a lack of WW2 era assets for FMVs. I always imagined the light tanks as being Chafees and Shermans while the Soviet tanks got their iconic aesthetic from snatching up whatever German engineers that were left without jobs when the timeline was rewritten; giving the Soviet tanks their blocky almost German-like designs and the Mammoth being like parallel to the Ratte concept designs.
I love this so much. It pains me that we may never see the "good ending" to this lore and universe. A shame. I'd even take a hastly written script from the creators at this point.
Excellent in depth video as always! For me, Nod had the more interesting units and tactics from the start. Thank you for ever addressing the greatness of these games, brings back memories.
I love how because of the defence turret nerfs thanks to multiplayer patches, the Reckoner is basically the games best defence turret when next to a war factory. Being auto-repaired for free you could defend any position at the cost of no power and no creds for however long you needed to beat any AI
I remember reading somewhere that, in Red Alert, the best tank platoon mix was three Light Tanks for every Medium Tank. It's also easier to field whole divisions this way.

Its interesting how we see NOD and GDI start relatively similar and then diverge more and more as time goes by. Basically almost forming two different "evolution paths" of humanity.
The avatar warmecs and their weapon system taking make me wonder why they don't just tell the crew of a vehicle they want the weapon of to get out (provided time for such exists). Training such crews (except for the attack bike) probably takes a while/costs resources, and while Nod is callous to a fault, it's curious how their odd habit of penny-pinching (for a ridiculously wealthy organization Nod does like to save resources anytime the option presents itself) doesn't compel them to try and not kill their own vehicle crews needlessly. Then again, Kane was perfectly ok with Nod being reduced to but a shadow of its former self ("as it should be") as long as they got the Threshold tower and codes, so maybe it was done on purpose to wipe out as many less wanted brothers as possible?
From stolen GDI tanks and infiltrated defense contractors to their own designs. Nod certainly has quite the varied repertoire of armored vehicles. Purifiers, Avatars, and Redeemers so so intimidating and so cool! They are some of my favorite mechs in strategy games and are always great to see on the battlefield. Thank you Jethild for another great CnC video. You're really carrying the CnC community alive and well.
Best nod tank was the TW3 tank. I have sweet artwork of that from deviantart. One of them is so beautiful because of the absolute realism the guy crammed into it. I always show it off. Wish i could post it here, but you can find it if you keep in the mind the art piece I talk about has a small viewport that is glowing a baleful orange and there's a soldier next to it's right side (right side if you looked at its aft) along with an ammo catridge belt hanging out of the cannon's side.
Honestly as cool as it would be to both have a laser and conventional cannon for the Scorpion Tank I imagine it would be a nightmare to balance for. Also fr though Avatar and Purifier gotta be one of the coolest mrchs out ther. I love the Avatae's gimmick of violently yoinking different weaponry from other vehicles and even allowing the use of practically all of them for one mech too.
In the context of the third war and how pervasive tiberium has invaded the landscape, especially in red and yellow zones where Nod mostly operated, perhaps subterranean units simply couldn't navigate anymore, blocked by bulk crystals and networks of tiberium veins.
I thought interesting how Black Hand changed from shadowy elite assassin organization (in C&C Renegade and before it) to basically cult, shunning all technology, especially stealth. I get their disdain for AI and cyborgs, since they are basically whats left of original Nod after Firestorm crysis, but always thought weird why would they shun stealth. Stealth, subterfuge and mobility are core principles of Nod´s doctrine since the beginning.
Apart from the threat of GDI's air force. A major reason Nod couldn't rely on Airstrips anymore by the time of Tiberian Sun was because of Ion Storms. Aircraft on all sides will crash and burn during them if in flight; realistically Nod reinforcements to an airstrip would just be cut off. This would severely impede them if GDI was churning out vehicles during a storm and they couldn't get their own to counter.
I think the CnC1/ RA1 Light Tank was meant to be M41 Walker Bulldog. It is a Vietnam-era tank carrying a 76mm gun, which is close enough to the 75mm described in game. It fits the overall Cold War aesthetic of RA1, and it’s more reasonable to have leftover Cold War tanks in service in the 90s (CnC1) than antique WW2 tanks. Another reason I think it’s M41 is because it was really meant to be US Army’s primary light tank - complementing the M48 and M60 medium tanks - before it switched to the MBT concept. It was used so extensively that it became South Vietnam’s primary tank. But I like your guess. M24 Chaffee was indeed the immediate precursor to M41.

Light tanks usually (in US, and French service) came in platoons of 5
Best nod tank was the TW3 tank.
Im surprised red alert isnt on here just yet.
We l know how og ra2 and its mods are.
In the context of the third war and how pervasive tiberium has invaded the landscape, especially in red and yellow zones where Nod mostly operated, perhaps subterranean units simply couldn't navigate anymore, blocked by bulk crystals and networks of tiberium veins.
Scorpion looks silly
Despite how useful it is, also Avatars and Reckoners 4ver
I was found it amusing how the Black Hands must bless their walkers before battle, it reminds me of Warhammer 40, blessing your weapons and vehicles.
Great video keep up the great work
I could have sworn that you have done a Dune C&C video about how Westwood did a Dune C&C style game.
I haven't done any video like that. Maybe you're thinking of NoStringsPrd's video about Dune being the grandfather of RTS?
Your right. ::wispers:: Tiberium is the SPICE melange. :) @@Jethild
Amazing as Always thx
at 39:07, the avatar's right arm opens up to deploy a small claw with witch to attatch the new beam to it's left arm.
My favorite part was when the Reckoner said "It's reckoning time!" And reckoned all over those guys.
Awesome video
I thought interesting how Black Hand changed from shadowy elite assassin organization (in C&C Renegade and before it) to basically cult, shunning all technology, especially stealth. I get their disdain for AI and cyborgs, since they are basically whats left of original Nod after Firestorm crysis, but always thought weird why would they shun stealth. Stealth, subterfuge and mobility are core principles of Nod´s doctrine since the beginning.
In the Albanian mission in cnc 3, the dual gun scorpion tank shows up, in the nod depot
39:00 you can see te laser folding backwards and a smaller hand coming out of it and folding back in.
Great video!!!!
Another great video, comment for the algorithm thingie.
The Technology of Peace! PEACE THROUGH POWER!
For the Avatar getting the second laser, I could see a hand come out of the right arm through the laser to grab the turret.
I thought in the first tiberium war Nod purchased their vehicles on the private market, hence why they had to fly them in.
