Since I switched to healthy fats and protein, I lost 25 lbs and ran my first marathon at 57. Avocado and tuna packed in extra virgin olive oil over a bed of romaine hearts and balsamic vinegar is my daily "core" meal and I've never felt better. I also swear by nonfat greek yogurt, fresh fruit and veggies of all kinds, natural unsalted peanut butter and 95% dark chocolate. I dont believe in this "carbo loading" thing some runners do, I think its just an excuse to pig out on pasta which makes me feel drained and empty the next day. So, Shirley, you are right! Your approach totally works!
Love the food topics you share especially as you are on a tight budget. I am also. I buy the same salmon as it's a healthy treat occasionally. I love cottage cheese with mine and value frozen Yorkshire puddings and frozen peas from Tesco's 😂... lovely. Onwards and upwards . It's great you know about nutrition as well 🎉. On a very poor day I use tinned fish like sardines as I assume these are healthy but cheaper?
@ salmon is currently on offer with a Tesco Clubcard 😃I don't often have Yorkshire pudding or cottage cheese tbh. I did the same last year when times were leaner than now. Sardines and some tinned foods, as are frozen foods, are apparently great, as they get tinned/frozen shortly after being picked. Where as foods on the shelves may be days old before we get to buy them.
That’s great that you get active when you feel down. There are times I give in to eating ‘junk’ but not for long, as it’s makes things worse. Like you, I prefer to get active 🙌😃
I'm also a survivor like you, yeah I turn 49 this year. My 54 year old friend said to me once, just wait to you're over 50. Like dude I'm close enough. I hope you're well Shirley, and I hope you realize how much of a wonderful of a human being you are.

@@SoulCareOver50 It was. And we have your advice! Have you considered consulting and having each client pay you! Wow! You really do have great advice! I don't mean condescension! Not at all.
Thanks for this. If eating any kind of rice, a smidge of apple cider vinegar 20mins before eating usually helps with those sugar spikes. I think that’s how it works?
Thank you for all of this helpful information. I am finally realizing that how I eat directly affects how I feel physically and emotionally. I'm soaking up as many healthy food ideas as I can!❤
I'm glad you've found it helpful. Food definitely affects our moods and emotions, that's why I have to be careful of what I eat too. I hope you will find future food videos just as helpful 😉
I’m so happy you’re promoting healthy fats! I don’t eat fish very often because it doesn’t give me enough energy but I eat grass fed beef or pork for every meal, with added tallow and lard. Veggies are pretty hard to digest so I only eat fermented veggies, which are lower carb, help digest other foods and support a balanced microbiome.
I love my healthy fats! I tend to have fish more for lunches and more dense meats for evening meals. I used to make my own sauerkraut, but I don't have that much time nowadays. I will probably make some again when the weather warms up 😃
The food looks great and the information was very educational! Great job! Omega 3 is so essential & for dogs as well. It helps with skin & coat! The Omega 3 balances the Omega 6's like chicken.
Hi Shirley I Really appreciate you sharing your great knowledge with me it’s super helpful I’ve always eaten to stop hunger but now I feel my body needs good healthy nutrition for my health and feel better plus my weight for the 1st time in in my life has been an issue I’ve lost a little over 2kg and I still have 6kg to loose so your video is a wealth of information for me can you please if possible advise on a good Quality Magnesium and cod liver oil as their is so many on the market with bulking agents it confuses me so this is my reason for not buying but I’d like to get some thank you so much I appreciate you 🕊️🙏🏻💖
Hi Margaret, is your weight gain related to menopause? I know that menopause changes our body composition to make it easier to gain weight. Nutrition is so important when it comes to our well-being. Well done on losing the weight! 👏👏 Tge magnesium I use for sleep is one that is well-known in nutrition. It works for my anyway. I will do more on supplements I use at some point.
@@SoulCareOver50 hi Shirley I’m not 💯 sure if it’s menopause weight I had my tube and ovary removed when I was in my early 30s it was an emergency surgery and by age 44 my periods stopped and my GP did bloods what confirmed I was in menopause as my other ovary stopped working I’m 60 years old now but my brain thinks I’m only 40 😀 but tbh I was eating a all the wrong foods and not very active this I believe was worry and anxiety perhaps depression as well to some extent but I’m slowly digging myself out of a hole to a place of wellness I’m sticking to my healthy diet pretty well and I’m hoping to join a fitness to health pass which includes yoga etc but long story short it may be a combination of anxiety and menopause I realised my appearance was going downhill for the past 2 years as I wasn’t interested I just let it happen and thought what the heck but the light bulb switched on just before Xmas and I’m trying to turn it all around now and your videos help me a lot thank you Shirley 🥰
Hi I am depressed today. I’m going to support your channel. I feel your pain from narcissism. Grew up with narc parents. I love avocados…….need to go get some. Thank you 🙏
@ I'm sorry to hear you're feeling depressed today. Thank you for watching and your support. I really appreciate you taking the time to do so, even though you're feeling low. Sending you big hugs.
as an ex british colonial, i spent 26 miserable years in squalid, broken britain. you should seriously consider going to america or australia which, with your qualifications, should be possible surely. you would be better paid too i would think. as immigrant cultures they are both far more tolerant of immigrants with far more opportunities which makes creating that new life far more possible. their environments are far better too. if i had my time over i would have taken and pursued opportunities to get there that my then relationship with a covert narc frustrated and denied me. a huge life mistake.
If she comes to the USA I'll ask her out! I'm 48 (49 this year), close enough to 50. I think she is absolutely beautiful. I've lived through a narcissist too, so I know her trauma it is about time she has a great relationship. I'm of Scottish/Irish, Native American ancestry.
@ if I try to smile in a picture I take like I should be on a Netflix documentary on serial killers. The best pictures of me smiling are ones I didn’t take.
I used to take Cod liver oil. A small tablespoon every morning…….then I ran out. I went to buy some more and they were out. It was actually on back order so I bought the tablets instead and it is not the same. I don’t feel as good. Is that possible? It’s the same brand……..Carlson. Thank you for a great video…….I support this channel!
I take cod liver oil now too, specially for the vitamin d during winter. I presume that the production of the capsule version is different and may affect the quality, as well as the quantity you're getting. But I'm not really sure. I'd have to read the ingredients of both.
Hi Margaret, many years ago when I had money and my own flat, I had Virgin water system plumbed in. As I'm not living in my own home at the moment, I use a Brita water filter. I avoid drinking bottled water as the plastic are endocrine disruptors. Also I think a water filter works out cheaper. Hope this helps.
❤ thanks for sharing
