@@jabloko992 untrue, it's called a "Gate HOUSE" and we cannot enter unless invited. I have sieged many cat strongholds in my time, can confirm, need to climb the walls

Yeah, the siege battles in Total Warhammer are kind of crap. Too gimmicky and counter intuitive.
The point behind fortifications is so you can defend a town with as few men as possible, but CA forgot that and made these ridiculously flawed defensive layouts that require like a whole stack to hold, and even then leaving the walls is apparently more efficient.
I miss the Medieval 2 sieges, those were proper battles.
Also, why the hell does CA keep insisting on putting cavalry in garrisons? They are useless. Cavalry are best when you can get a charge off. You can't charge in a city due to the constricted space. Literally any other unit type would be better than cav when defending. The only use I found for cav is to run down survivors, and that only happens if you successfully defend the town in the first place.

As you can see from this battle, Legend here is following the ancient wisdom passed down from Sun Tzu. In Art of War he wrote, "when besieged by the many, open the gates to bamboozle the enemy." Truly Legend is a well versed tactician
The funny thing is if you'd referenced Zhuge Liang instead that's a thing that actually kinda happened (it was in the romanticised version of the history but he probably did something crazy like that for the story to happen).
Funny thing is, this exact tactic was used during the senguko jidai, someone(forgot who it was) held a castle with 5 men against a whole army by simply opening the gate and beating the war drums, the enemy thought they must have had so many men inside and aborted the siege.

That’s a popular tactic in the states, the robbers go in and get blasted right away much easier to deal with then trying to hold your nerve as they kick the door down.

Sometimes I wish some of these saves were made available to the public, I love tough defense sieges.
You have full view of every unit involved. Can't be that hard to set up a custom battle.

been watching for a while, most battles are like hey put your archers in a corner and run your cavalry around while spamming spells.. this though, damn well fucking played
i prefer just play normal combat dificult and use all my units in different ways and have some fun than this cheese shit.
@@diogovieira5563 most battles don’t require McCheese because you make good decisions on the campaign map and your not in a disastrous situation that requires abusing holes in the AI.
Then it’s about fighting battles manually to win more or to bite off a bit more than you can chew.
Was expecting "we're in the end game now" when the final showdown in the town square started but will settle for "what did it cost you". Very well played very entertaining. Also good to know the AI also suffers from their own version of the gate bug.
Is anyone else a huge fan of the empire? Like idk but i feel inspired to fight harder by the dialog of the Empires units, as if every battle is humanities last stand as their bottomless well of courage stands to fight off the darkness.
I've literally never played the Empire, and Vampire Counts are my favorite. Saying that though, their voice lines and their delivery seem to express exactly what you say. Honorable men (and sometimes women) fighting against unimaginable horrors knowing they will almost surely die.
@@Dante3214 i really enjoy the Vampire Counts as well but idk the Empire if done right just feels so rewarding when you finally unite the Empire and make that last stand against the hordes of chaos. Sort of Lord of the Rings vibe to it kinda.
In EVERY fantasy setting with humans it's usually the "human spirit" that keeps them alive, the ability to come together when it's most needed to achieve a common goal. To have generals shout obscenities at the enemies and blessings and reassurances to his own soldiers is what keeps morale high. Honestly, it's a trope that I haven't tired of at all. Plus we're human so if you're naturally empathetic that's probably why. It works mechanically too, having to unite the empire gives you a sense of ownership and responsibility to them. Their lands literally become your lands. Their fights, your fights.

Perhaps not a disaster campaign, but it would still make for an interesting campaign to watch being turned around.
It would make sense for ghoul kings to give better ghoul specific buffs of cost reduction to help compensate for their weak magic and relative lack of durability when compared to standard vampires.
Acutally, you have to differentiate between the Ghoul king and the Vampire lord when it comes to the Strigoi. The Ghoul kings are bad, and are the basic ones. But the vampire lords actually have a couple of nice abilities to go with them. They get the crypt fiends/horrors summon, which can be relatively useful, they can get a 1500+ self heal on a 2 minute cooldown, and if you cannot burst them down, they can last quite long and deal a lot of damage. (note:all my knowledge is based on MP. I never got far enough in a VC campaign to compare the different classes of bloodline lords.)
@@danielkrejcar9104 The ghoul summon is tactically powerful in multiplayer as are the extra hits the Strigoli get over the basic vampire and they can be murderous against infantry due to being large and and killing multiple models a swing.
I was looking at things from a campaign perspective. It would be nice to have a reason to mix up the army roster and having additional bonus that reflect the Strigoli and the flesh eater courts would be one way to do that. Wind of death is so powerful jt is a big loss when you don't have it so it would be nice to have a strong reason in the campaign to take strigoli over a vampire or necromancer.
That moment the vampires attacked the guy holding the gate open to get it closed. The computer is learning how to counter the cheese >.>
Nothing is better against undead vampires than good old bullets.

Well Strigoy bloodline has unique skill that buffs cryptghouls and crepthorrors GLOBALY. It is not mentioned in skill description but Elich tested it and it is GLOBAL STACKABLE buff which helps your garrisons even if not drastically - but still global buffs are global buffs. So they have their purpose even if they may looks underwhelming otherwise.

God I wish I could play Total War even a fraction as well as this. If I were faced with the same battle, I would have just considered it a loss, and possibly scrapped my campaign.

Yeah that's annoying when you destroy the gate and the gatehouse is at 99% damage and can't destroy it
The gate exploit makes sense here. Vampires can only cross your home's threshold if you invite them in.

Burning Head in sieges: either bounces off terrain that isn’t there, or it goes right through terrain that is there. God, sieges are retarted.
Hello legend, i’ve been watching your videos for 2 months now(very recently got into warhammer via a friend)i tried some campaigns on easy-normal and going up, however its my first turn based strategy game so whatever i do i suck at it, can u start a tutorial series for people who want to get better at every aspect (battle,diplomacy vice versa), if u read this good luck and thanks for the content so far! Much respect.
Edit: i started dark elf since my friend suggested it but i prefer lizardmen now, if u are interested.
@@TheBerserkify Try Eataine of the High Elves, probably one of the easiest campaigns. It's basically a starter faction and if you play on Easy you should not have much of a problem getting into the basics and will probably start conquering everything soon. Dark Elves depends on the Lords, Morathi is rough in the beginning. Basic strategy is to level your Legendary Lords and getting your province capitals to level 5 fast so you can make max profit and recruit high tier units. But everything depends on the faction and Legendary Lord you are playing, some mechanics are just easier to manage than others. Once again, level the Legendary Lords so you can get faction wide bonuses and make them either a master caster or a one man army. They can be very strong, the heroes too. Heroes who have the ability to steal technologies can also be leveled very fast by that. And pick your technologies carefully. Growth bonuses are good in early game, if you can get buffs for early game and late game units combined that is also a very good pick. For example, as the Dark Evles I would probably just skip the buffs for Dreadspears technologies because they won't provide anything at around turn 100 because the unit will be rarely if ever used again. I'm not Legend but I hope I could help you at least a bit mate
in terms of battle, formation is everything. So knowing the shortcuts to move your army in formation and the like are really valuable. It made the micro aspect a lot easier (this game was my first RTS-like game).
Adding onto that, it's a good idea to not even play a full campaign of every faction right away (mostly bc that'd take like 5 years) but at least test them for a bit, in test battles or just trying out their campaign. That way, you'll know which units are the best for each faction and what their strengths are, so what units do you have to watch out for and which are trash.
Being able to just look at the enemy army in the battle screen and identify how dangerous it actually is (bc the battle odds meter can often be a bit bs as you probably already know by watching legend) is fantastic knowledge for any faction or campaign you play.

The most important thing to me is starting position. Some I find fun and some I don't. Watching livestreams takes up a lot of time but Legend does diplomacy, batlles, and campaign/city management in those. Watching a high elf stream might be better as diplomacy is something important to them. If you're playing someone, maybe watch the first twenty minutes or so of Legend playing that person. The start is easily the hardest as that is when you need to organise expansion and plot your early game path while being pressured to kill starter enemies, especially in single player. One thing to remember though: he plays on Legendary and this really provides a different experience. Who are you playing as Lizardmen? Definitely a strong faction with plenty of fun monsters and magic, with strong saurus to start off with.

Then you just have to play another TW Game. Like Three Kindoms on the highest difficulty the AI is almost, well, a little better (for instance the single-target wasting AI-Amo exploit is gone I think).

Am I the only one thinking defenders in sieges should have a huge advantage? same for defenders fighting on the wall? like 1 stack easily can defend against 3 stacks?
I usually hate the Gate bug because it tends to kill the things I send to break the gates. But now I see I can use them against the bloody game I am plotting my revenge.

Click and hold the ground, and then move your mouse in the direction you are trying to aim. It took me a long time to figure that one out. Another that took me a long time to learn was to double click the spell to overcast it.

Mannfred usually wipes out elector counts pretty quickly now. Vlad usually takes Wissenland and Averland and Mannfred takes...literally everything else
@@Legio9Hispana is that so? I hadn't even noticed. In the last month I've done 2 very long campaigns. One as a heavily modded Clan Skryre and one in vanilla as Vlad. When I was playing as Skryre, they were both wiped out by the time I got eyes around there (turn 50ish). On my Vlad campaign, I kept pushing west into the empire and Manfred just got wrecked by Karak Kadrin. I'd wanted to make him super powerful as an ally and use him to defend my eastern and northern flanks, but I ended up having to confederate him around turn 100 because he couldn't manage to push past Mordheim. Eventually he got ganked and all he had left was Castle Drakenhof

For this battle, it seemed like he could only get to Mannfred after he had wiped out most of his army.
If he had not stuck the gates, for example, he would have been easily overwhelmed. He had to wait until he could attack Mannfred without opening himself up to a killing blow.

@@cieloazzurro3539 I'm guessing he couldn't make it to Sylvania before Mannfred got his hundred armies. Expansion is usually slower on Legendary
