There are some advantages to being old, I used to drive down from San Diego exploring the coast back in the 70's, 80's, and 90's and this was one of my favorite places I found and would stay for several weeks or more, camping in the bushes. I never saw another surfer there, or anyone except a local boy on horseback who told me about getting water from digging a hole in the riverbed. I can't remember his name. This was his family's land, and he would be probably sixty years old by now. He also showed me how to turn over rocks and collect oysters on low tide. When the north swells are large a right hander would break outside and it was very good, a little scary being alone. I used to really love that place and what's now called scorpion bay, but those days are over for me now and I love watching your videos of places I cherish but feel sad because I can't do it anymore. Enjoy your youth and don't be haughty, because the same will happen to us all.
🤩Oh my dear friend, thank you very much, you don't know how much I appreciate your words, for me this is the real payment for making videos. Your stories about when you traveled through Baja make me think that you were one of my heroes in the 70's, 80's who explored those hidden and magical places, you were the person that at that time I dreamed of being when I grew up. Thank you very much indeed and nice to meet you. I am Rogelio Sánchez, the man behind salty bear.
It's a great wave but it's usually blown out all day and night. But when the wind models forecast favorable winds, all of BCS shows up and it's totally crowded. This includes the La Paz locals and all the gringos from Todos Santos, Cerritos and East Cape. There's only two good spots in BCS that break consistently on SW swells. So, if it's windy at Conejo, everyone drives up to Scorpion Bay.
You are quite right Jake, those two spots are the best in BCS, and yes, Punta Conejo is very inconsistent because of the wind, and if not, then it is crowded, but there are other places, maybe not so good, but more consistent. and without people, where you can have a lot of fun. Nothing is always perfect, but we should be glad that sometimes it is. Greetings and good waves. see you in Punta Conejo.
