Thank you for this lovely tutorial. My mom made something similar to Bubble and Squeak. She called them potato cakes. Her potato cakes didn’t have the delicious vegetables in them. She just used sautéed onions. I’m looking forward to trying your recipe.
Thank you Terry so glad you enjoyed the cooking they came out really well and the family really enjoyed eating this dish loved your comment sorry for the late reply have been juggling things at the mo hugs Rose :)
Hello, I’ve only just seen your channel and have liked and subscribed. I’m from the North West and much older than you,, but years ago, left overs from a roast dinner were used, mainly on Mondays and was termed ‘fry up’. It was similar to how ‘hash browns’ are made today but mixed up vegetables ( mash of course ) and fried altogether in a frying pan. Turning, once a crisp had formed on the bottom,,so you got all crispy bits in between. A slight bit of ( homemade gravy of course) or Marmite added to the mixture. Always served with bacon and egg. It always amazes me these days that people refer to ‘fry up’ as a cooked breakfast? Originally, fry up was how I’ve described. Not hash browns or an English breakfast. It’s funny how times change and names for things become distorted and changed. Either way ,,,,it’s a very yummy meal!! Xx
Thanks Gourmet Grandad this would be a great start to a lorry drivers day my brother is a lorry driver too and you can't beat a great start to the day thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply :) from Rose :)
@@EasytoCookatHomeRose One of those lovely dishes that can star in each meal: breakfast, luncheon, and dinner! Versatile, which I love about dishes like this!!
mum made this on monday for tea she told us it was goulash we loved it with a poached egg on top and lots of salt and white pepper. never really been able to make it as good as mum.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching my videos. I lived overseas as an expat for many years and truly understand that even though the world has so many great flavours there is nothing quite like the food you grew up with. I do hope you enjoy some more of the videos I put on the channel and again thank you :) warm wishes Rose :)
Rose, I just love how I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos :) I have never heard of bubble and squeak lol but this looks so delicious and what a great way to use up leftover vegetables! The bacon and egg with this sounds perfect :) Thanks so much for sharing ♡
Thanks Mel sorry for the late reply have been so darn busy :) Thank you, my dear friend, for your lovely comment and for watching :) I think this is a Uk mainly dish I am just trying to bring it further afield hugs my dear from Rose :)
Good video. I'm gonna make these tomorrow. I am also gonna play a drinking game tonight with your video and take a shot every time you say "nice" 🤣 should be "nice and sozzled" lol xx
I have been looking at bubble and squeak recipes and yours is the first to talk about making ahead and freezing- just perfect for a single household- great post!
I make it in a large lump and as the underside browns turn over the c browned bits into the middle , keep browning the next undersurface, turn it into the middle until you have a very tasty mass laced with brown tasty bits..peasant cookery but so delicious. Worth making from fresh!!! Serve with egg or sausages or bacon or left over roast meat , gravy sometimes. Very adaptble.
hi Genevieve thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment. sorry about the late reply I was away with my mum and just got back :) cheers and hope to see you again on my channel hugs Rose :)
I remember having this on a Monday while mum did the washing. Later in life I was in my mates he said he was hungry I said have you any left overs and started making bubble and squeak he was horrified until it was ready and he couldn’t get enough of it to eat.
Hi Joseph Harrington, thank you so much for your lovely story and for stopping by. Yes for sure it is an understated addition to the menu. Tasty hearty and it uses up all the tasty leftovers that would be a shame to go in the bin. Thanks again and hope you have an amazing Christmas and a Wonderful New Year. cheers Rose :)
I am so glad you liked the video Terry and sorry for the late reply I know that you had asked for this recipe and I was glad I had it in the pipeline happy Tuesday :) and thanks again :) Rose
Thank you so much Lesley-Anne-Kirkman these are a hit in our family and they are especially great to get the kids to eat brussel sprouts without them noticing them :) thank you so much for watching and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment :) hope you have a great weekend cheers Rose :)
@@EasytoCookatHomeRose right, folks here are noticing the "subterfuge" nature of this dish, regarding the kids and their eating of vegetables!! The name alone will get a smile out of them! ;D

Hi Andrea V aww I loved your comment sure made me smile. Thank you so much for the great complement. I will be back again soon making some more videos once I have moved house. Many thanks hugs Rose :) x
I have to admit that I have never been a fan of bubble and squeak. The look of it all in the pan was not appealing to me, and it tasted bland. But THIS is GOURMET Rose!!! WOW! Restaurant quality!!! Now THIS is what I will do with my leftover veggies for sure! THANKS! PS - your poached egg and bacon looked like perfection!
Thanks Goran for your great comment and sorry for the late reply, the truth is I have another channel on travel and have been trying to get it near the yt requirements such a drag !! I am slowly getting there its hard to do 2 channels I must be mad !! Glad you liked the video happy Tuesday my friend :)
Thank you for this lovely recipe, brought back memories of when we were kids, as my dear Mum used to make this ❤ can I ask a big favour, I have heard the background music before but would love to know the name of the artist so I can listen to more, thank you 💕
I always thought bubbling squeak with some sort of stew yes I was wrong those patties look really good, but I'm a picky eater so I'll probably have to always ask what's in there what vegetables are in there cuz there's lots of vegetables I won't eat but I need yours all the vegetables in there I kind of like thank you.
Come on folks, admit it! The only reason to make Bubble and Squeak is the name. "Kids, we are having bubble and squeak tonight",.... and, after their quizzical looks, just watch them "wolf down" their veggies!! Love it! Will make it for guests: "what do you call this dish"? "Oh it's just some bubble and squeak"!! LOL :D
My Buddha those Brussels are well over cooked. So overcooked they are grey. Only thing to do with those is put them in the Bin. Even the egg is over cooked. Thanks but no thanks.
@@gammonsandwich1756 Sorry but I speak as I find. If you think those Brussels are fine well that's up to you. Tip once they go grey they are Buggered and would have lost all their taste.
