There's been a dramatic rise in the use of tasers by police officers in England and Wales. New figures show they were drawn almost 8,000 times in one year.
So drawn 8,000 times and discharged around 20% of the time, so that’s about 1,600 discharges in a year for the whole country, that’s pretty good. And let’s face it, they are not drawn for no reason.
It's not like the police officers being equipped with these tasers are drawing the tasers, putting them against your neck, and then screaming "PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER"
If officers don't have tasers, their lives will be much more in danger, and if they only carry CS and a baton, yet they're up against someone with a machete, they're extremely underpowered
Bear in mind that a ‘use’ of the taser can be anything from it being drawn from the holster, some being red dotted to it being discharged. Usage will increase if more officers have it, that’s obvious.
Give officers guns = people moan Give officers tasers = people moan Give officers batons = people moan Officers use shouting = people moan cops should have used the above options. really cant win, but i know people will say that the option the officer uses was overkill but in actual fact if the officer sees fit that it was the most effective choice then so be it. you cant go round every person and say can i taser you, do you have a heart condition.
Its simple comply and the taser wont be used. would you rather an officer die because they were not armed with a taser. Police dont deploy the taser until its needed. Secondly the taser is not fired but deployed as there is no explosion but a releasing of gas.
firstly my father is a sergeant in the Queensland Police force. And him deploying his taser has saved his life and about 50 other civillians. Learn to speak civilly then talk. My message is simple comply nothing will happen
Celia Veston Since laws were brought up and approved the police officers are more than just normal men and women they have passed traning and courses that allow them the authority
Celia Veston What you don't understand is that if you look like the criminal who is wanted & wear the same clothing as them, in the same or neighbouring areas, etc ( which has happened before) they aren't to know you aren't the criminal, as they are not psychic. Yes they have CCTV cameras in most places, but unfortunately CCTV isn't that accurate if you look like a suspect- from the monitoring screen. Not complying makes things worse & the police's job more difficult. Some criminals even force people to wear their clothing after they've committed a crime, in order to get away like a hoodie & jogging- bottoms-like black men. That's what makes things difficult & if the criminal has a knife or a gun on them, the police are going to use force like a tazer or guns themselves, aren't they?
Ugh i can hear the background cries of excessive force. Violent crime in the UK is on the increase, it's just common sense that the people who's job it is to protect the public should have protection themesleves. No doubt some sections of the public will be crying about civil liberties while watching this but to me it's just a non news story.

i agree western policy in middle east for 50 years as been the cause of disaster, i am no supporter of any of that ridiculous military action in mid East etc, nor blind support for Israel. however i am talking about police having tools to police the streets, taser is getter than physical restraint. i worked in mental health secure units for 24 years and know how difficult that is for everyone involved and dangerous, restraint has caused more deaths than tasers. whatever you call it requires police to do their job. without them what do we do, go back to cromwell with soldiers on streets .
no. taser has caused more deaths that restraints. *drugs usually make you simply masturbate constantly and demand food* ( which i don't see as a problem at all) you're emotional for some reason. taser is a mad idea ffs it used to be a war crime during the 80's on channel 4 news often reported as war crimes to torture with electric weapons. it's SURREAL to think the future is TORTURE WEAPONS
Just look at the quality of police officers compared to the 80s, most are children and built like twigs. They need all the help they can get. Remember as a child i was afraid of the police but know days they are more of a joke then a deterrent and you can tell due to the respect they receive of teenagers 100% none

Quite simple, comply, and you'll be fine
Ur mistaken bacon
NoToJust-This ohh very good I see what you did there
rubbish, the requirement to deploy is pathetic
As an American, I could only pray for this headline here.
Draw 8,000 times dosen't mean used
SGT Norgan it said that 20% of the times it was drawn it was fired
Good. It doesnt put public at risk unless public commits crime and then doesnt comply with the officer

2 years from your comment a cop has juts survived an attack thanks to his taser...
Putting the public at risk is our police don’t carry guns then literally how can the stop people with knives or any weapon.
Who uploaded this video? Tazer isn't the correct spelling, and then you put 'taser' in the description?
as it's a SERIOUS matter spelling as a statistician is weighted this "0"
Its good. A stick or pepper spray wont subdue a knife will it

Just give them guns
I was tasered by mistake. I was having a seizure and a certain police force thought I was drunk. Ban them
That's a lack of training, rather than an issue with the device. Not really a reason to outright ban the device.
Taser all the criminals . Shouldn't go against the law.
There used more because there is no come back for police anymore

I think police tasing should be outlawed due to pace makers
