    This game seems to take a healthy balance of familiarity for old fans and giving new players a few of the mechanics they’re used to (i.e. sprint, slide, clamber) while also showing them what Halo is all about: the sandbox. About Infinite's release date:
    Phil Spencer said in an interview that they have the release window down to a 3-4 week period. They're just waiting to see what time works best. Essentially trying to avoid being Titanfall 2'd by releasing within a week of a new Battlefield and CoD game.

I always saw that game as being the peak of Halo in terms of design elements: the Spartans looked as good as they ever would, the elites, the guns, the vehicles. Everything. Thankfully, the sprinting is super slowed down and nothing related to a thruster pack is making a return. I can tell based on the changes made to the mechanic that 343 had a tough time deciding whether to keep it or not, in the end. But with it going F2P and generating so much buzz from players outside the Halo community, having to keep the 343 era fans coming back AND please Bungie purists, I think they came to a really good compromise that will have something for everyone. Someone put it really well in Twitch chat on I believe it was a Shyway stream.
    The sprint isn't a go fast button anymore that requires supersizing the maps and making vehicles obsolete. It's just a way to transition into the noninvasive slide mechanic and grant slightly increased speed. You also aren't inhibited from shooting and nading while moving at top speed anymore either, essentially fixing the actual issues it caused. They've had 10 years to get this mechanic right and heard thousands upon thousands of takes and criticisms on it, so I think I'm cautiously optimistic that they really do know what they're doing.

    Halo introduced me to a lot. Whether it was online gaming, machinima, First Person Shooters or the Xbox itself, it was a gateway to so many experiences. I really thought it was dead. Not in the sense that it wouldn't have people playing it, but that each new Halo would feel like a reminder of what it wasn't anymore. This isn't helped by the fact that so many people are (understandably) jaded towards the gaming industry. Hard to get excited when it's so likely that some predatory business bullshit will be attached to whatever you love. So to see such genuine joy and anticipation from so many Halo fans after getting one of THE most promising showings for Halo in a decade... It feels like that sprint, clamber, slide etc are only in the game to hit a checkbox for their F2P model. They seem borderline useless (which is a good thing) but it makes me wonder why have them in the game in the first place if not to entice F2P gamers.

    • @SR-388
      @SR-388 3 года назад +1

      at the very least it seems like you can fire straight out of sprinting and not have to wait for the guns animation, and if we're going off of halo 5 you'll probably be able to disable sliding and clambering

    • @JBzucc
      @JBzucc 3 года назад

      Well it seems like you don't know exactly how sprint, slide and clamber fits in the sandbox and how it can be used, not trying to be a dick but even this guy in the video doesn't seem to understand how it fits into the games, cause sprint is a catalyst for slide which gives you a boost out of sprint and allows you to come around corners with a lot of momentum or adding clamber to traverse the map in unconventional ways akin to nade jumping without the health loss, also I have to say clamber doesn't take away from grenade jumping as much as this guy is making it out to be, if your using it for every ledge it's putting you at a disadvantage by not being able to shoot, a lot of situations can still call for grenade jumps, that's what separates the more skilled player from a newcomer

    • @peoplearemessedup
      @peoplearemessedup 3 года назад

      @@JBzucc Movement options aren't sandbox elements. Intrinsic aspects of the player are just "things you can do". Every game has "things you can do" but they don't all have things that are there for you to interact with, which is what the sandbox is.
      Cornering in Halo has never needed sprinting or sliding to have depth. Adding extra shit on doesn't necessarily enhance the game at all. If simply having more things you could do made the game better then giving everyone a jetpack and grapple hook at all times would make the game even better because you'd be able to do even more.
      Clamber does take away from nade and crouch jumping. Trick jumps as a whole are less powerful and important because everyone already always has a high level of mobility.
      The reality is that Halo 5's population fell off a cliff and it didn't move a lot of copies for a headlining AAA franchise. Obviously it didn't work as a product, and thus it'll get changed. People didn't like it overall, and who can blame them? What does Halo 5 achieve with sprint/slide/clamber and a faster pacing that other games don't also do? Why not go play that other game instead?
      There are plenty of bits of various game mechanics that can provide depth, but that doesn't make them worth keeping. Halo CE respawn mechanics, weapon spawns, grenade mechanics, .etc. all have aspects to them that can be exploited at a high level, but that doesn't mean that they should be kept around or that I want them to be brought back in infinite. Halo 2 is better for not having those.
      There are people who will swear by any old quirk in any game, but at the end of the day, Halo 5's enhanced mobility doesn't serve the underlying core gameplay. Strafe jumping or skiing both actually have a ton more depth than sprint/slide/clamber, but they also shouldn't be in Halo.

      @@peoplearemessedup yeah but where is that line drawn, I mean no disrespect but I think a lot of what you said was very emotionally charged and I'm not saying these mechanics are a perfect explanation BUT you couldn't possibly say they don't add anything to the movement and map sandbox cause they do, they give you plenty more ways of maneuvering around the map, they give you more option to combat an opponent in a fight, like it's okay to dislike the intrinsic abilities but I fundamentally disagree and refute the opinion it doesn't add something to the sandbox, like halo 5 went overboard with its mechanics but I still think there is a way to make them work, I'm not saying adding intrinsic abilities is a bad thing, like hell look at the jet pack in Reach and 4, completely ruined the traversal and in every firefight gave you the upper hand cause your opponent can't take any cover, trust me it's not entirely bad, it'll never evolve if you don't add anything but it'll become to complicated if you have 10 abilities like in H5
      Also sorry if this message is a complete mess to read and incoherent as fuck, it's pretty late where I am as of writing this

      And here I think everything that you're saying is based on your attachment to Halo 5.
      "Map sandbox" is not a thing. Again, sandbox is about interacting, not about acting. Innate abilities are not the sandbox.
      You literally, on paper, have more buttons you can push, but additional complexity does not equal additional depth. Even with depth, by adding new things you risk detracting from currently existing elements. Both skiing and strafe jumping are deeper, and completely would change the way a Halo game would work, but that doesn't mean the game would be better for adding those systems. I reiterate, would adding a grappling hook and jetpack as innate abilities, things that would let the player do more, be inherently better for the game? If they're not inherently better, despite giving you literally more options, then how can you argue that sprint/clamber/junk is better because you have more buttons you can press to do things?
      Games are defined mostly by limits on player actions. You can only move one piece on your turn in chess, sure you could make many times more possible moves on your turn if you were allowed to move any two pieces, but that would also undermine the core of the game. There would be more complexity to taking a single turn, but that doesn't mean that this variant of chess is better than the original.
      The jetpack in Reach is actually probably one of the best armor abilities in the entire series. You can take cover from a jetpack just the same in a lot of circumstances and you're open to being shot at from basically all over the map while using it if you aren't careful. There is a lot of risk/reward and careful planning and map and positional knowledge that goes into using it most effectively without just getting sniped. You can see it on the enemy model and profile so it isn't a total surprise mid-fight. The game also never takes control away from you while using it so it feels natural and fluid. As an on-map pickup it would have been absolutely perfect.
      Halo does have to evolve, but lazily slapping on mechanics from other shooters isn't a sustainable direction, it is devolution into generic shooter soup, where the franchise has had its lunch absolutely devoured by other games that do the same thing it is trying to do, but better.
      Halo Infinite does have ideas that evolve the game in new and interesting ways that don't seem like they water down core gameplay. Equipment basically just being limited-use armor abilities is a great idea and has been a long time coming. Equipment in Halo 3, other than the bubble shield, kinda sucked on anything but the most casual level (except power drain which was *waaaaayyy* over the top), but it was a ripe idea for iteration. That said, everything infinite has shown us has been a bit too one-sided for my tastes, but as on-map pickups that can work.
      The abilities of the razorback, the idea of having a way to store a weapon, and slap whatever you want on the back of a warthog is absolutely brilliant.
      Even smaller things, like the shield on the wraith turret and the dropshield around the turret in the multiplayer overview, is something that has been needed for a long time, since turrets have been basically suicidal to get into.
      As much as I'm emotionally attached to classic powerups, integrating them as equipment just makes sense (and technically they were equipment in Halo 3). It streamlines the game even though that probably means the rush of being invincible (and watching enemy players begin to flee as a result) right as you pick up the overshield is going to be gone, likely for good.
