- Hello, everyone! Today's video is dedicated to the witches practicing in secret. I hope you find these tips and tricks helpful!
Here are the questions to ask yourself if you're contemplating coming out of the broom closet:
1. Why do you want to come out?
2. Are you ready to take this step?
3. Are you confident and proud of that decision?
4. Have you healed/let go of the guilt for changing your beliefs?
5. Are you prepared to deal with ignorant people?
6. Will you be bothered by the misconceptions and stereotypes?
*These are not my questions*, but ones I found floating around the internet when researching the topic. If anyone knows the source- please let me know!

Very old practitioner here. I pre-date the internet and growing up, I had to hide my spiritual side, since I was 8. If you have pictures on your wall in your room, I would write spells, draw sigils on the back on them. I even wrote protective spells on tiny sheets of paper and put them in my shoes to wear. Going to the library, I could not check out witchy books but I would take notes. I also learned about herbs, flowers, animals, etc- things I use in my craft. When my parents would leave to go run errands or something, I would take salt and run it around the outside of my house. I also did a lot of art and snuck small references into my art- sayings, words, sigils, pictures, affirmations, whatever. I volunteered with my local animal rescue and would spend time learning about animals and loved being around their energy. I even used to insert things into my homework notebooks, so it would history notes for 10 pages and then a moon pic. I even asked my mom to make a small garden outside and had herbs and yes, I buried crystals when no one was around. LOL I also did sewing, my own clothes, bags, etc. I remember sewing a moon into the pocket of one of my dresses. I knew it was there. Y'all are lucky to have the internet now. Pinterest is great way for me to unwind and collect fun witchy ideas. Y'all also have a great community out here to support you. Blessings and safety to all of you!
This was such a sweet story to read, thank you for sharing!! I feel very lucky to be practicing today, and am so happy to see the community progress together in a positive light.
Several of these are ideas that I hadn't thought of!
Me too! Sometimes it’s kind of lonely. I’m glad to see your post.
Everyone still in the broom closet, you have an amazing community here to support you. Blessings.
hi. I am a 12 year old wiccan and pretty much still in the broom closet to a certain extent. This video is so helpful, relatable and just so refreshing to hear someone talk about their own past. Thanks for the help!
Glad i'm not the only preteen in the broom closet.
i’m in highschool now and started practicing around the same time as you! keep it up! the more you practice your craft the more you figure out your own path! wishing you the best!
Thanks for making this video. i'm a grown woman and I live alone, so I guess I don’t technically have to keep my practice a secret, but I tend to hang around in a lot of conservative spaces, and I’m openly conservative, and I wouldn’t want to be taken less seriously if people found out that I'm a witch. I have recently discovered Christian witchcraft, though, so that’s the path I’ve been following. I enjoy watching other witches on RUclips, though, and I don’t feel as hopeless about everything since practicing the craft.
Where was this advice back when I was a teenager 🙂 It’s crazy how much we have developed as a religion/practice compared to even 15 years ago. Things are very different in terms of accessibility of information, styles of practice that dont fit traditional coven based practices, accessibility to objects and even online communities that are not full of older people - nothing against but it was so hard finding anyone my age that I could relate to who was in similar situation.
I’m still closeted, but I do not live with my parents anymore so it makes it easier to own things that are important to my practice. My flatmate doesn’t know I practice, but I have already been doing what you mentioned, that is scattering all my objects across my room. I also keep a drawer full of books and other objects and my “travel” altar is a special cloth I spread on the ground to practice. I have found it the most comfortable way.
Thank you for such a nice comment! I’m glad you have found a routine that works for you, and I too am glad to see the changes we’ve made as a community. Here’s to more positive ones to come!!🥂
Thank you so much for posting this. I am in the broom closet myself (only out to parents, sister, best friend, and closest cousin). Although I don't have to worry about practicing super secretively in my own home (even though my dad thinks I'm crazy) it's great to hear so many other discrete ways to practice that I'd never thought of before!
This video is super helpful! I was out of the closet for the most part for the first two years of my practice, ( I had an entire altar room) but my landlord sold our place & we’re staying with my partners parents while we try to find a new home. I’ve downsized my altar to a very small table & I only feel comfortable with that cause his parents never come in our room or see it. Thank you for sharing tips, tricks, & knowledge! 🥰
Oh! Did you get the broom closet ending? The broom closet ending was my favorite!
You can in fact still practice even if you think it is not safe due 2 your home life or whatever you do not need tools or anything I have candles and a bell and that is it if you dont count a pen or pencil and a piece of paper you can do spells when you cook and not even speak a word out loud say things in your head you can still be your true self dont wait
Great video! I don’t have tiktok (I feel I have enough addicting social media in my life ;), however I really appreciated the tiktok videos you posted to instagram and youtube!
I really appreciated this video (and loved that Tiktok as well)❤️
Also your take on not to practicing Witchcraft if you're in an unsafe surrounding is very valid and reasonable, thank you for bringing that up!
Lots of love to you from Germany
xoxo Anna🦋🧚🏻❤️
Thank you so much, Anna!! I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and my TikTok. It’s so sweet of you to bring up my take about not practicing if it would put you in jeopardy. I debated putting it in because I didn’t want to bring anyone down, but I think it’s important too. ♥️
