How would James Bond hide his can of fancy imported beer (neither shaken nor stirred)? He’d use the Trinken Lid, which safely and securely hides your can in an ordinary coffee cup. And no more cold hands or warm drinks-the lid creates a convenient air gap!
We’re giving away a Trinken Lid to three winners of this week’s free giveaway. To enter, simply fill out the form at gimme.scamstuff.com (giveaway ends 7/16/2020, no purchase necessary)
Congrats to the winners of last week’s Bump Key set giveaway: Luke Miller, George Mork, and William Tegeder (we will be in touch via email within two weeks)

I love these practical episodes, they remain entertaining and yet give me something I can use. A point: apparently large metal ball bearings (like the kind used in the video) can set off metal detectors. Another point: apparently police/security types regard this sort of thing as a "weapon." A third point: you can get ceramics that don't set off metal detectors, and easily shape some hard clay into a rough ball shape. A fourth point: homemade ceramic balls don't generally hold up well to sustained abuse. A fifth point: repeatedly hitting "another person" with a ceramic-cored monkey fist counts as sustained abuse...

If you don't make the fist tight enough, the ball inside will shoot out eventually. I spend maybe 20 minutes making the fist, and then an hour or two pulling it tight. You will see and feel as you do this the cord goes from having a soft compressible feel to being very hard. If you don't tighten evenly you will also see the line pinch down where the direction of turn has changed and/or instead of straight lines they will be slanted and/or bigger on one end than the other. I use pliers to pull it tight, but have to be careful not to fray the material. Just pulling the running ends will never get it evenly tight; every bit that is more loose will shift and even itself out, and eventually it will all become loose, then as you demonstrate the ball flies out and punches a hole in drywall 😅
Also nomenclature to know, in some places these self defense tools are called "slung shots" and are illegal. Depending on your local area is may be illegal to carry these on you. There are many great videos on RUclips where people show how to use these in a lethal manor or less lethal (ie striking the temple vs striking up into the jaw).

I went to a boating camp when I was 13 and made a large monkeys fist with a baseball for the base. They started out in boating as a way of tossing rope between two boats or two points, because the weighted end made it easier to throw and not have it slip off into the water

  • @mr.flapjack9670

I am in the Royal Canadian Navy, the point of the monkeys fist is for sailors to tie to end of a painter (rope used to tie a ship to a jetty) to give it weight so they can throw it to sailor on shore or on a jetty so they can anchor the ship to the jetty.

Having made a ton of these I recommend doing all the wrapping first keeping things fairly loose. Then add the ball into the pocket you've created before you start "fidgeting". Tighten it up by starting at one end gently pulling the slack out of the loops to the other end making sure to keep things as neat as you can. Just do a little at a time and repeat as many times as it takes to get it tight.
You can also adjust how it fits for different sized cord and balls to make them any size. Bigger balls or thinner cords get more loops in each direction (5-6 or even more if you want to get crazy). Smaller balls or thicker cord get less (2-3)

  • @nilsschenkel7149
    @nilsschenkel7149 4 года назад

When you're too fidgety to keep the loops neat only between your fingers, you can make a handy jig by putting four pegs (nails, tent pegs, chopsticks, whatever) in a board in a square the size of what will be the core of your monkey fist. If you intend to use the monkey fist as a throw weight for anchor line or for climbing, consider a rubber or cork ball (otherwise it's quite dangerous for the person catching it, and some ports will have every dangerous throw weight cut off the line, so best get it right the first tume). You can even stuff one end of your cord inside the completed knot to give it shape, but then you should connect both ends with a knot, or sew it off.

We used to make these at summer camp and wrap a small round smooth pebble in there, but we always used a sisal rope that we'd soak in water and let dry out to shrink and be super tight.

A 1" ball would be difficult to explain in court, may want to go a bit smaller, perhaps if you own a musket use a lead musket ball like a "good luck charm"

If you soak the fist in something with a high capsaicin count, like ghost pepper juice or something (although that example might have TOO much in it), then when you hit someone with it, it bludgeons them, gives them rope burn, and then applies a severe irritant to the raw flesh. The burning can potentially allow you to get away after fewer swings than you might otherwise need.

    Ahhh lovely...
This takes me back to being 7-8 tears old, growing up in a street with kids 6-8 years older than me and we often found out things like this long BEFORE our childish minds should've realistically been aware of. We made swords, bows, crossbows, French arrows/throwing darts and one of the best was monkey fists where we had to opt for large marbles as we didn't have large ball bearings.
I enjoyed the chaos of my childhood... I was a devilish rogue!!

Kubatons are great weapons that are very inconspicuous. Especially if it’s wooden (as opposed to metal or extruded plastic) and blunt (instead of pointed). Mine is wooden and blunt and everyone always thinks it’s just a keychain. I can take it anywhere haha

I've had one of these on my keychain for nearly 4 years now. Not for self-defense purposes, and it lacks the ball bearing, but for cordage purposes. I got it after some flooding in my area left me stranded overnight, and I decided that it would be nice to have some rope always near by in case I need it.
I could use it for self defense by using it as a handle to fling my keys with.

What we _do_ care about is whether or not you are able to access network resources, something that a VPN can often cause troubles with.
