This is the best car buying advice I've heard in a long time! The base 911's have always been the most enjoyable driver focused choice. Likely true for the new EV's too.

Brilliant video and agree with everything, the base Taycan is everything you need, fast enough 99% of the time. Winter tyres point is spot on too, the amount of people (in the UK) who genuinely think buying a 4x4 on summer tyres makes it a winter weapon 🤦

I tested a GT3 (amazing but too manic for everyday), Turbo S (insane performance but not worth the premium), and settled on my 991 Carrera T - the real sweet spot of the 991.2's. I'll be shopping a Taycan for my wife in a year or 2 after the big depreciation hit - I love them.

I had both from my Porsche dealer for a few days to test them out - the Turbo S is definately MORE fun. But the low range will prevent me to buy one. The 200mi only work if my grandmother would drive the car. By my opinion the sports car purpose is to drive sporty and not think the whole time of the energy or fuel efficency, otherways i could also buy a Prius or VW ID3.

I agree with you 100% that the inherent goodness of a Porsche is there even in the "base" model. The sweet spot is 4S with 94kWh battery (or even more so Taycan 4 Cross Turismo as it has front motor and the bigger battery for lower price than 4S). You need the front motor if you make longer trips and do want to spend less time on charging (in ideal case you charge it only home, thus effectively spending none of your time for charging). That is due to the fact that Range mode uses front motor only which is the most efficient mode of the Taycan (that is the smallest motor on the car), thus the 4S is more efficient on the highway compared to base Taycan which is important if you do longer trips. For going around in the city base Taycan should be OK.
