I was doing a little presentation with friends on RCA Victor with a group in middle school and needed some background music while working on it. We all fell in love with this piece. It's so good that I still love it today, fourteen years later.

Well, the country was in economic turmoil in the 1890s, and a rich few ruled the country like they do now. The middle class was smaller, and the average person was fairly poor (equal, in a way). And yes, you could build your own home; though If you were wealthy to have a home with more than 3 rooms (or with indoor pluming, or electricity) then you would probably order your home from Sears.

What a great sound-I can just see a silent film happening to this music-or a silent comedian/eccentric dancer

I'm not sure when the mandolin rail was invented, however I know it's been around at least nearly 100 years because the old Nickelodeons and Orchestrions from the 1910's on had them.
