My fiancé and I are flying to New Zealand to get married in less than two months. In preparation for the trip, I have been reading a lot of history. The Maori culture of New Zealand is long and rich. It has been fascinating to learn so much and I can’t wait to visit. So, just a friendly reminder white Euro centric history is not the only history in the world.
That is so true about the harshness of the sun in New Zealand. When I was visiting a friend in Wellington a couple of years ago. I was there on a calm 20 degree summers day. I was thinking I would be okay out and about with no sunscreen. Having lived in sub-tropical Brisbane, Australia for 14 years. Nope! I got sunburn that made me look like a lobster. My friend then apologised for not telling me about the ozone layer issue you have there. :-)
Hi Rosie, I am french and one year ago I commented one of your video, and told you I was planning to go to NZ. It's been 10 months now that I am here and it's awesome. I was in Milford Sound one week ago! So great!! 😉 You're video is so true to what I have noticed here! 😂
The New Zealand sense of humour sounds a lot like the British sense humour; we have something called “taking the piss” where we dig into others (usually our friends) or make fun of others
Going to Wellington this saturday and im completely stoked!. Will be roaming the north island for 20 days. Hopefully i ll learn some of the slangs from your videos to make life easier for me there haha. Great channel and thanks for the tips!
I can relate to the heat in Australia. It's probably worse, in comparison to NZ since the summers get 40 + degrees & the nights are pretty muggy and humid, at least that's the case here in Sydney. Went to the beach the other day & had sun cream all over except my legs so they were burning for about 20 mins. Afterwards they looked like a cherry tomato.
Kia Ora Rosie😚hey you forgot to inform the people that the residents of Rotorua have a steady diet of baked beans, eggs and kina🙊and the best haircuts in the world are found in Southland🙈,shot for the upload again👏👍
Hello! I'm planning to come visit the Auckland area June 2021 and I was wanting to know what you would suggest when it comes to currency exchange. I'm coming from the US and I've never travelled internationally before. Thank you
Might be worth mentioning gorgeous NZ, like our darling Tassie, is not necessarily a 24 hour economy. Especially in the country areas and especially outside the season, it can be tricky to source fuel, food, pharmaceuticals, public toilets, wi fi or even phone access et al
A propos de l'intensité du rayonnement solaire; quels sont les conséquences sur les animaux ou la végétation ? Les animaux ne mettent pas de crème solaire j'imagine ;-)
I have wanted to visit New Zealand for such a long time, so my boyfriend and I have been trying to save up to travel there (we would be flying all the way from the US so flights aren't cheap). The longest my boyfriend can get off of work would be about 2 weeks, so I'm leaning towards visiting one of the islands to really experience it. However, I can't decide which island to visit!!! Please help!!! I want to see as much of the beautiful landscapes and wildlife as I can, but from what I've read both islands have a ton to offer! I'd love to see Fiordland, but also see the Waitomo glowworms!
@@PierreGuinoiseau Cool info there! I've wondered about "New" Zealand myself. Btw, the Danish island is only called "Zealand" in English; in Danish it's called Sjælland and thus not related to Zeeland or New Zealand at all (and incidentally I live on the island of Zealand/Sjælland).

As a Kiwi, I can fully agree with the sand flies (aka midgies), swearing and sarcasm. The sandflies are literally everywhere, and what makes it worse is that you can hardly see the little critters and don't realise you've been bitten until later when you've got a million lovely little itchy bites. Sarcasm, yeah. Were pretty sarcastic, but majority of the time it's just for a laugh. Were a nation who loves a good laugh, even if means roasting ourselves. Lol. And for the swearing, yes. I HOPE THAT THE US DOLLAR WILL CONTINUE TO BE STRONGER THAN THE NZ DOLLAR -(MY SOURCE OF INCOME WILL PAY ME IN US DOLLARS.)
I'm not insecure and don't require others to tell me how beautiful New Zealand is. To ask or expect someone to tell me how beautiful our country is not a done the for Maori. Why because we we already know this.
I'm from Auckland and I would say Wellington is the better of the two. Wellington is quite compact and you can do a lot of things quite cheaply. Auckland is good too if you like beaches but you really need a car and bit more money to explore Auckland properly.
Salut.

Thanks for the subtitles, Rosie: With your lovely but very thick accent, I find you hard to follow in English (I'm American but speak "mid-Atlantic" English). Also, thanks for the tips: I've always wanted to visit NZ but will now be wary of the harsh sun, rip tides and brush. I guess what's left is the cities, which don't interest me much; but the people do, even if they would swear too much for me, so what you say about them would charm me, like their sharp and sarcastic humor. The nature within hand's reach also seems great: wildlife on the beaches (but I would hate the insects) and would love to have the Kea bird steal something from me.

Australia is also risky for too much sun exposure and in both places people appear much older from too much sun exposure, skin like a camels legs.

Why is it called NEW Zealand? Where/what is “old” Zealand?

"Old Zealand" is the Dutch province of Zeeland, which New Zealand was named after. There is also a Danish island named Zealand but it's not related.
