Dani Watt Hey Dani, I just discovered your channel, and I absolutely love it. I am 16 and I'm totally interested im New Zealand, but I don't know where to start! I have questions specifically about the New Zealand universities; like the costs, education requirements, etc! I am from California. Thanks so much !
Dani Watt Please do a video about yourself. Like "25 questions with Dani" on social media get people to ask questions! btw just discovered your Chanel and I'm from New Zealand too. Lots of love ☺️
What I love about New Zealand is that when you come home from school or work you can relax at the beach, go skateboarding with your mates and have a BBQ with your family. But compared to Sweden where I live. When you come home you grab your computer/iPad and nothing more really.
Dani, I am Australian and I agree with all your points. I have spent quite a bit of time in NZ although if you love friendly quality people such as yourself then I don't recommend Sydney as its very clicky, expensive and people can be very unhelpful. I am coming back to New Zealand in 2018.
I'm from Germany and have been to NZ twice. I'd love to come back someday again because the landscape is just stunning! You're so lucky to live in such a beautiful place :)
Yeah but head down to hamilton Auckland and that and it is terribly populated. In Cambridge the houses cost around a million dollars. And the trucks here pollute the air real bad
I’m from Germany and I was an exchange student in New Zealand last year and since then I’ve been in love with your country ever since! I’m gonna go for a travel around the country after graduating and I’d love to move there after finishing Uni or when I’m older! I’m gonna pursue an art degree and would love to start my magazine one day.. :)
Hi, I liked the video you talking about general idea about NZ is, can you make a specific video about IT market and jobs for immigrants coming from the US or another countries road to a long term stay. Thanks.
Hello, I cannot make a video about the IT market as I don't know anything about it in NZ. But I can make an in depth video about the process of moving to NZ from another country. Keep an eye out for it! :)
Hey Dani, Thank you for the very informative video. I'm from Egypt and I've been doing some online research on moving to NZ when I came across your video. it's great that in one video you've managed to touch on many of the main aspects as well as the small details that shapes one's life in NZ :)
Hey please don't move to New Zealand's New Zealand is overcrowded and the average household cost 1 million dollars that is because people from overseas are moving here and it's such a small country too and everybody is competing with everybody and that's a massive problem so you would be doing us a great favour not moving here.
Hi Mahmoud am maori in NZ kia ora (Hello) mate disregard comments from those idiots. Your country is rich in history and your customs and beliefs. It would be an honor to meet someone from your country here in NZ. Kia Kaha (Be Strong)
Hi Paulo, I'm Brasiliero too. but i'm in Auckland now. i adopted English so freakin' well. To you, I will say good choice cause you're gonna love it here in NZ. You'll be alright. promise. I know you'll have lots of questions in mind so what i wish for you is not to stop researching about the place
Hey so my family is thinking about moving to NZ. The only thing is, I really want to know what the schools are like and what the students are like over there.
Having lived in the UK (3 yrs) and USA (1 yr) I can say the quality of life in NZ is far superior. It's really not that expensive compared to London and San Francisco. The wages are lower but in my field the work/life balance is better and colleagues are so much more supportive. Side note, very strange to hear the Kiwi accent having been away for ages :o
Fascinating. I'm a Brit who lives in the US (Florida to be exact). The main differences are: -The weather: Very long, hot summers and warm winters in FL. Much better than the never ending cloudiness of the UK. -Education: The system is COMPLETELY different. There's too much to explain here, but basically, the US system focus on breadth instead of depth. School finishes at 18 instead of 16, sixth form doesn't exist, and one has to do general education subjects (such as maths and english)at uni. -The people: people over here are very open and helpful, especially when talking about customer service. In England, people are wayyy more reserved. -The infastructure: Down here in FL, everything is very spread out. You NEED a car to get anywhere, especially in the summer.
Hello! I am also a Brit. Desperate to get a visa so I can live and work in the USA. May I ask what kind of visa you have? As it seems I'm not eligible for any of them =[ Many Thanks
Yes we do... I'm Floridian too, Melbourne to be exact. Driving is essential here. And we do have all kinds of people from everywhere. But this state needs more places to go like more museums, we got beaches though, the best of them. I have never seen snow so I have no idea about The subject, but I'm glad you staying positive from UK to Florida is a Change because everybody want to live in NY,Cali, places like that. 🤣
Klára Frühaufová hey girl you would be doing us a massive favour not moving to New Zealand's this place is so overcrowded that the average household cost 1 million dollars because we have to compete with people overseas. This country is way too small for everybody to come live in
Laura hey there, NYC is almost the opposite of what NZ is. long work hours, people in a hurry pushing and shoving but it is a great city to visits at least once to see all the sights. oh and the variety of food here is great. cheers
Hi just found your channel! I’m from Germany but currently in New Zealand! I really really love this country. At first I wasn’t sure if I ever could like this country but I really felt in love with New Zealand and I don’t wanna leave it. I will come back some time and I’m also thinking about living here for a bit. Nice channel btw ;))
Pro tip : Some South & East Auckland Suburbs crime rate are high, make sure your car is always locked and take every thing on you like phones, wallet etc, and at least parked in open areas where people can see your car but other than that don't judge every Polynesian or what ever culture by their looks or how they wear, everyone has different mind sets & its usually friendly on how you approach.
KIDChronic : East Auckland is the suburbs along Tamaki Drive. South-East Auckland is the suburbs of Howick, Botany, etc. Isn't it West Auckland that has a reputation for "creative acquisition"?
South = Otara, Flatbush, Papatoetoe, Mangere etc & East = Glen Innes, Panmure, Mt Wellington, Orakei etc West Auckland doesn't have that much crime rate, & North.......... North just stays as North EDIT* I grew up on both side and have seen worse on both sides
tekryn You and your mum will love it there. I’m from the North Island a place called Auckland. I hope it all works out and you enjoy your time in “The Land Of The Long White Cloud”🇳🇿🙌🏽
cons: terrible paying work, less work opportunity and stuff is more expensive. Pros: awesome culture, amazing nature and cool people (I have lived mainly in New Zealand and now I live in Australia)
Speaking of which why did Anglo pirates, some 20,000 miles away from jolly old England, sailed half way around the world and occupied in late 18th century? Why didn't they occupy beautiful fertile Iceland, right above them just a short distant away, with hardly any people there? This doesn't make sense at all. blog.chinadaily.com.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=711807
Why is Australia, a giant bountiful resourceful continent in Asia-Pacific region, only a few hundred miles away from South-East Asia had no Asian-Pacific Islanders historically inhabiting when Anglo pirates, some 20,000 miles away from jolly old England, sailed half way around the world and occupied in late 18th century? [Why didn't they occupy beautiful fertile Iceland, right above them just a short distant away, with hardly any people there?!] This doesn't make sense, since Asian-Pacific Islanders originally had been inhabiting in Pacific as far away islands as Guam, Tonga, New Zealand, Tahiti, Fiji & Hawaii! blog.chinadaily.com.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=711807
I loved my time I have spent in Christchurch while waiting to travel to work at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. People were friendly, Great food, Good coffee/small but very good, Beautiful surroundings and post earthquake architecture. Currently viewing from Antarctica. I hope to visit the NZ Scott Base again today. Great is always had there.
My family and I are currently busy with the moving process to New Zealand, we can't wait to move. We currently live in South Africa. Your video was very informative, thank you!
@@karenpeterman2016 Look into getting a Working Holiday Visa - it's a good place to start and is pretty cheap. I don't know if they're available at the moment with Covid restrictions though!
Adam M I feel sorry that my words hurt your feelings so much, maybe take some pills would fix your vulnerable brain cells? Maybe I should say "my landlord was a great person with caring personalities who just wanted to recycle my shoes?" Lmfao...I mean not only shoes were lost stolen also the trust of leaving my personal belongings with an unlocked door was easily broken, wasn't it sad or just a creepy landlord tried to make New Zealand look bad in this particular video?
@@scbr4889 Obviously people will be people. There are assholes no matter where you are, even New Zealand. I like to think kiwis are in general quite nice and accepting, but certainly there are unfortunate exceptions.
Hi! I'm Italian/Polish currently living in South Korea. At the beginning of April I'm going to New Zealand for my honeymoon and I can't be more excited! Also, preparing my trip I kind of considered moving to NZ in the future but I know it's not really possible. Your video was very informative and fascinating! Thank you!
Hi I have been to NZ four years ago and I would say it is one of the most beautiful places in the world! May I ask what your background music is? I have been watching your videos so many times but every time I am always interested in your music!
Likewise, I am also interested, as I have long understood it is very hard to become a citizen of NZ. You can be welcomed as a visitor for 90 days, maybe 6 months, but then you have to leave unless you own some NZ real estate or have some job/business that is deemed cannot be done by a native Kiwi. Also would like more commentary on the basic costs of living in NZ vs. USA or elsewhere. I cannot believe it would be double what it costs to live monthly in the USA.
You did an excellent job of this video . A good overview, well presented . You asked that we let you know where your viewers live . I am a New Zealander , married to a Canadian , and living in Canada . I grieve for the home of my heart daily . Life can sometimes push us around a bit . I live a good life , but the trip my family and I took to NZ a year ago showed me that NZ is still stunningly lovely , the people open and welcoming , the lush varied vegetation a delight , and as in your case I feel fortunate I was brought up there . All the best with your RUclips life , and your life in general .❤️
Hi, Dani. I am indeed an American who's been tossing around the idea of moving to New Zealand (I'm from near Chicago). I wanted to ask about health care in New Zealand. I understand from Wikipedia that the country has a sort of mix of private and public systems. Are most New Zealanders generally happy with that system? What is there to know about health care in NZ apart from what's on Wikipedia?
Hey Dylan, that's awesome I love Chicago! We have a great health care system here in NZ. I'm no expert but I could suggest going onto the ministry health website to find out more. :)
No, most NZers are not happy with the system! As an American coming here you will need a 2 year visa to qualify for health care. If shorter than that you will need private insurance. Private is the way to go as you will be seen in a timely manner and the specialists will love you because your insurance company pays up front. There is a shortage of GPs in the country so it is hard to get on with a regular clinic. Visits to the GP will generally be cheaper than any co-pay that you have in the US though so... if you don't mind a 4 month wait to see a specialist, things are good with the private system. Medications are subsidized though which is great as you don't have to be rich to afford prescription medications.
I'll respectfully disagree sir. I'm a Kiwi living here all my life. We do have waiting lists for some things, but if it's life threatening (like a heart attack) you'll be seen immediately and get excellent treatment. Even for things you have to wait for in my life I've been looked after well. Some of the best maternity care too. I do not waste my money on insurance, my taxes pay for my health care and for my family.
we have a public system funded by taxes that will be okay for most issues. it's worked fine for me so far in my life, including having a child and raising a family.
My question is, So I work in water distribution/ treatment, how are jobs like that in New Zealand ? Also, are government jobs hard for foreigners to get?
I'm moving from the U.S. to Wellington in February next year and really appreciated the information! You said you live in Wellington right? Could you maybe do a pros and cons video for the city? Keep up the good work!
You mentioned one thing that I had already forgotten, which was ozone layer. In the lodge that I stayed in, there was that self service lotion on the wall, and I thought it was very interesting and made me more aware about skin cancer in NZ.
I emigrated from the USA to New Zealand in 1992, and expect to end my life there. Kiwis are more like North Americans than they appreciate. Californians have told me that New Zealand reminds them of what California was like 50-60 years ago, and I tend to agree. New Zealand is an honest democracy, and a multi-racial society relatively free of identity politics. Behind closed doors, the two major parties are quite pragmatic in their orientation. New Zealand is a very low key ally of the USA, so low key that much of the world treats New Zealanders as citizens of a non-aligned nation. The public sector is relatively free of corruption, but is vulnerable to pressure from business interests, as is the case everywhere else. Problems: * In 2016, New Zealand's GDP per capita, restated in US$, was only 69% of the comparable value for the USA, and the lowest among the 6 first world English speaking countries; * Housing in the main cities, and in the more desirable rural towns, is quite dear. In much of the USA, housing is quite inexpensive; * Many jobs do not pay very well; * A diversified portfolio requires investing in Australian and American securities. The resulting exchange risk cannot be avoided; * The income tax is quite simple, esp. if one is not a business owner and owns no foreign securities. If you don't have children under 18, the income tax is also harsh, with income taxed from the first dollar. * The tax treatment of foreign equities and unit trusts is especially harsh. If you own a house in New Zealand, or rent one year-round, you will owe some income tax if you live in New Zealand more than 6 weeks out of the tax year; * It is not unusual in New Zealand for people to hold management positions not because they are competent, but because they were the least bad of a very weak bunch of applicants, or were the only applicant; * The system of socialised medicine does not cover many state of the art treatments, and rations access to the treatments that system does offer, via waiting lists. Immediate access to quality health care requires private health insurance
This is all very good to know. I'll have to look into some of these statistics, as I imagine many of them have changed in the past 2 years, but it's a good start and has me asking questions
Hi Dani, nice to meet you too. I have just found your video channel and I am subscribing. I live in Melbourne Australia, but my mum was born in Palmerston North. My favourite New Zealand city is Wellington. I visited New Zealand on holidays five times during the 1970's, though mostly the North Island, with the exception of day trips to Picton and Christchurch. I got slightly hurt in New Zealand back in 1970, when I accidentally sat in a gorse bush!!! Ouch!! LOL. Thanks for sharing an excellent video. All the very best. Robert.
Awesome! Both places would be good. Auckland will have more opportunities job wise but being in Christchurch would be pretty cool as it'd be much easier to explore and road trip the south island which is the most beautiful part of NZ! Good luck :)
Christchurch is a lot closer to farmland, but does have the city. I go down to Christchurch quite often but I'm not too sure what the job opportunities are like. I live in Wellington, I can tell you that its more of a city than Christchurch, we have a museum (been there so many times, could be interesting for you), good walks, its not hot but can have nice weather. Finding a job really depends on if you want a casual job or one you're qualified for. Sorry this probably wasn't helpful, but I like Wellington
Laura Everywhere in the world , effort and patience is needed to find a job. I know a person who moved to Canada and has spent few months training and searching for a job before he was employed despite having a certificate but a foreign French certificate. Opportunities are found almost everywhere but you have to like the place where you want to live to be able to get accustomed.
Could you do a video on immigrating with a criminal record and how difficult it could potentially be? I ask this because other countries are really strict but others not so much
I am a Chinese American and live in NYC. I plan to make a short visit to the capital in July. Thanks for your informative and insightful video. I like your mentioning of earthquakes and skin cancer. For me, NZ is like a Shangri-La in the South Pacific. Your video confirms my impression.
I'm moving to NZ in July for university and I'm soooo super excited about it, I can't w8 any longer.. seriously soo stoked. Thanks for this great synopsis of this great country. Ofc, every place has its pros and cons but I feel like NZ is one of the best places to live on Earth.
Off to New Zealand in 5 weeks time from the UK... Got a job as a tree surgeon at a large Arboriculture company, to say i'm excited is an understatement! :)
i know this comment is so late haha but i am from NZ (born there) but moved to the UK when i was 3. Every day since i could remember, I've always missed home (nz). to me, the UK never felt like home. Because of COVID-19, I've been seriously considering moving back, i think i might! this video was so good but made me feel so homesick haha! x
Hey I totally know what you mean! There is no place like NZ but I hope you have found some comforts of home in the UK! It looks pretty incredible there too and you get to travel to so many beautiful European countries nearby! I was suppose to be moving to Hawaii this July but obviously covid has halted travel for now. I do feel lucky to be in NZ during the pandemic though, you feel pretty safe and our response has been one of the best worldwide. Take care and I hope your dreams come true for moving home! x
@@DaniWatt wow, thank you so so much for such a lovely response!! yes, there are elements of being in the UK that I love (being able to travel easily to europe) but also many that have made me realise that living in NZ is a better choice. thanks so much! xx
Im a born and bred kiwi for many generations, I love our country and most of the people in it. living in the north im into outdoor activities as both coasts are close with native bush and farmland in beween, what i don't like or are worried about is our rapid expanding population rate as we are building more and more polution is generated. our native animals flora and fauna are very fragile as NZ has no native land mammals and all mammals here today are introduced and can quicky become pest species as for thousands of years New Zealands segrigation from other animals means our natives have no defence against these new species. For example the trees are very slow growing and cant heal quickly meaning a simple deer or goat scratching on a plant can cause it to rot, killing the plant that may be1000s of years old, the habbitat it was for others and will take just as long to come back. Kauri roots can be effected just by walking to close to the tree and toheroa shellfish are killed accidentally every day by the thousands simply by driving on the beaches by people un-awares.I love to share and show off our country to visitors, but please, please respect it and follow the given rules for the health and safety of yourselves and the country. Our land of the long white cloud is getting sicker every day as the green changes grey and the crisp untamed and untouched air is being replaced with smog.I persoally believe it is already to late and one day NZ will just be a massive bustle of people and their businesses fighting and trying to control the economy for the riches of personal gains and power like many other countries today.Let's look after the few raw pockets of natural, unruled land and life so at least some others have a chance to witness her amazing beauty matched by none as Aotearoa is a class of its own and the unique beauty can't be witnessed anywhere else known to man.
I completely agree. I'm in Northland too. The population growth I've seen in my lifetime is huge, it's doubled. And I do conservation work with Kiwi, and I know how fragile they are :-(
Lots people leaving because the government getting strict on immigrant trying to get permanent residency, (mostly Asian).so to be Canadian that is not going to affect you coming to NZ study.
Patrick Johnson I live in Auckland. Yeah it's not too bad but I mean it can be annoying wearing uniform to school and running out of things to do I guess. It's a pretty social place and NZ's population is pretty small so a lot of people know each other, and there aren't many dangerous animals tbh
From Australia, grew up in New South Wales. Really interested in the Queenstown area maybe Frankton, I'm dreading the cost though. Thankfully I'm eligible for citizenship
Nooo! don't choose queenstown! its sooo expensive and there are so many other places that are only a 2 hour drive to there for a wee get away or whatever like good old Dunedin, but my best friend lives in Queenstown and dreads it. Hope I helped :)
Hi! I'm watching for Mexico, and I enjoyed your video a lot! I've dreamed of visiting New Zealand and maybe move there for some time, and now I'm even more keen on going there some time! It all looks very beautiful indeed. Oh by the way I love your accent :) I love some kiwi bands, like Ladyhawke and Yumi Zouma.
Hi! I'm from Mexico. I wanted to know if I'm able to understand New Zealand accent 'cause I'm learning English and I want to visit that such a beautiful country, I enjoyed a lot your video, It was too interesting and now I'm subscribed :). Actually, I think that there are more pros than cons. Be proud of you because now you know that there are people that watch your videos even when They don't belong from an English speaking country.
not gonna lie, it'd be hard to break into the NZ workforce. they tend to want Kiwi experience... try to get something before you come would be my advice. we have plenty of taxi drivers here with degrees :-(
By the way I live in New Zealand and it is definitely not that safe as you think. Dairy robberies are running rampant also we have had lots of people who have had cars broken into I know and happened to me once or friends have been pick-pocketed.
Yeah. Alot of dodgy people round here. Constant bells telling us accidents have gone on. In the last month at least three ram raids I have passed. Dangerous bulls all over the farm. But quite a bit safer than other countries still
Hey I’m from Wales but lived in Te Puke for 2 years when I was 10. I often want to go back and visit my old friends and family. The people I met in NZ where so open and welcoming made my feel like i belonged 😊
Dear Dani, I am a linguist from Mexico. As a branch of my company, I am currently starting a Language Listening Training Centre in my city. Our focus is on helping trainees (mostly global travelers on business/pleasure) improve their listening skills with all English accents and cultures. We just found your videos, and the subjects covered and your beautiful accent should be excellent for our trainees! I am sure that you will soon have a growing number of subscribers from Mexico. We would absolutely love if you could please say a short hello message to the trainees at the Language Listening Training Centre at Laguna Languages in Mexico. Thanks and keep on with the good work!!!
Im from England and my parents are looking to move me and my my younger sister and brother to either New Zealand or Australia in the the next few years. Any tips? Australia or New Zealand?
@mtuckster wrong. Auckland actually has a slightly higher average year round temperature than Melbourne. One or two 38C+ days in summer doesnt compensate for the colder winters they get.
Hi there, great video. I was born and raised in New Zealand then when I was 20 years young I worked in Australia and loved it then got a job in Canada where I’ve lived for almost 30 years!! Toooooo long. Moving home to NZ in next couple of years. Time for a REAL SUMMER.
I had an opportunity to travel a Christchurch, and I was able to meet schools, and I think the system of education is incredible, I love it. The families, in my country, are going to the mall or a market but in New Zealand is go to parks or do other similar activities. And another thing, in the airport the place to collect the suitcases is in place outside the safe zone and is how people can take the bags and go with them, but the people don't do it. I think New Zealand is an awesome place and I would love it living there. Sorry for my English
Christmas Is Awesomeness try oz because they have better opportunities but I'm telling you we got a better lifestyle NZ so auz if you want to make alot of money fast but NZ for good living
Hi Dani,,, I really love your videos. It's been three years since you posted this video. Are you planning maybe on making more videos. I hope so because you are very lovely and natural and very informative.
Watching this from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I love visiting the other countries of the British Commonwealth, Western Europe and US but peronally there is no place like my Canada. Love the winters.
I was born in nz left at 19 lived in Auckland little suburb called oranga have lived in oz for forty years both are great countries good on ya your a proud kiwi
I think New Zealand has a real long term problem though in that it has such a good reputation it may get overwhelmed with people wanting to move there. For a large country like mine it is not as big of a problem but for a rather small island country it could be. Also, foreigners even from non-English speaking countries can commonly speak English so tend to favor relocating to English speaking countries.
Well I mean there was a case where that happened, I mean people wanted to move here from US but that was like a couple of years ago when Trump won the elections and so like it was said that a crap load of people from the US wanted to move here. I know it's not the best example but it's on a similar context. Although certain laws and stuff being passed down means that might not happen so much....
You mentioned you started a couple of small businesses. Do you mind sharing what field were those businesses in? Thanks for the informative video Dani!
I love NZ! I fell in love there in 2007, happily married to him now:) Hope to be able to move back there soon, this time along with our wee one and dog. We're currently living in Barcelona. Thanks for the video Dani Watt!
Stay in Canada, P is the most popular drug of choice, synthetic weed is easier to obtain than the real stuff. NZ is behind the 8 ball as far as legalising weed so don't come here if you're looking for weed paradise. NZ is gods zone so you actually can get a natural high from living life in a laid back paradise that is NZ, no need to self medicate👍
I'm a JAFA. Also, I just noticed now that the laid back and friendly thing seems to be true. Whenever I'm out with my dad or mum and we've gone for a hike or just a walk, people usually say hi to us first (or we do it to them first) even when we don't know each other at all. Do people in other countries do that?
From British Columbia CANADA, we are visiting New Zealand in March for a month. Renting an RV (campervan) and can’t wait. And love the Zeppelin T shirt.
Mary Weeks hey girl you would be doing New Zealand a massive favour by not moving here because Kiwis are competing with so many people moving here from overseas the average household has gone upto a million dollars. New Zealand is just way too small to support everybody please don't move here please
Me and my bf are looking to move to NZ. We haven’t started anything just yet and with the recent lockdown we can’t move just yet. Once we have all the loose ends here taken care of here we are hopefully gonna be able to move as soon as we can. I’d move tomorrow if we could lol I’m excited to be out of the USA. Watching from Tennessee, USA
Hi Dani. I'm an American living in NZ (for 18 years). I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with much of this. The people here are really not that friendly, especially to residents from other countries. If you are a tourist, great. You get the full on over the top friendliness. If you are living here (and now directly competing with the Zilders) then wow, it's an entirely different kettle of fish. The crime rate is very high here. NZ has the highest rate of auto theft in the world and has the third highest rate of rape per capita in the world. The second highest rate of burglary per capita, and has shocking domestic violence and assaults, some of the worst in the world. Together with our Aussie neighbors, we have the highest Meth use in the world. There are many areas in this country you can't even go near without being totally hassled by gang members or druggies. So, I'm not sure what NZ you live in, but it isn't the same one I do. Sure, the general feeling at the tourist spots is laid back, but the society in the urban centers of Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland needs some serious upgrades. I first visited this country back in 1988, and it was totally different. I've seen it change radically in the last 15 years. There is way more inequality now which is causing a breakdown in the old "Kiwi values". The rich are getting arrogant, insular, and presumptuous, just like the rich in America, Australia, or Europe. The poor are getting poorer, more angry, and desperate. The National government has shipped all the middle class jobs overseas, and has imported tens if not hundreds of thousands of middle class immigrants from India, China, wherever. Many of these people can't find work in their chosen professional fields and end up driving taxi cabs or working at petrol stations. I don't know, but I spend half of the year in US and half of it here, and I find the lifestyle there to be better than it was when I was growing up and the lifestyle here is worse than it was when I got here... It is very expensive here as well, with many goods and service providers ripping you off because they can. There is also a very strong "you don't belong" attitude that ends up hurting the businesses here. I can't tell you how many times my accent has in turn given me terrible service, extreme pricing, and a general "different" provision than if I was speaking Zilder. On the positive side, NZ has affordable health care, but you still need private insurance. Still, way better value than US. Also, the tax rates on property are lower (but rising) and of course, the landscape is simply beautiful and the interior areas are virtually unspoiled (but being sold off to the highest bidder). NZ has its challenges, definitely. If you are wealthy enough to be financially retired, and just need to work to keep sane, it's a good place. But, still, you have to be careful not to get sucked into the violent sub-culture that is everywhere and growing every year. I still live here, but would not recommend the country to a young person from an OECD country who wants out. They would have a very hard time. The unemployment rate is WAY higher than reported as many have to take two or three "part time" jobs just to make ends meet. Yes, this is also a problem in the US, so it is becoming worldwide. The safety net in NZ is also better than the US (as the US for all intents and purposes has none). Yet, this has also eroded over time with the National led government. Homelessness is now a reality here. I know as I volunteer at a shelter as a cook and server. There are even good people, who are just down and out financially, are now living in their cars. This was never how it was back in 1988. I sure hope this country can turn this around, but I think it would require a huge reboot.
That’s quite misleading and you’ll need provide references for your claims regarding crime statistics. If you collate crime, then nz ranks 3rd in the global safety index which is exceptional (you can check this with a quick google search). Also the Gini coefficient gives a good indicator of inequality in nz. Far better than most oecd countries. Agree regarding nz being expensive and limited employment opportunities (due to size and population)
Hi Dani, thanks for your information, - sums up my experiences of a 5-weeks Lord of the Rings Tour around 2005 pretty good, although I do not plan to move to NZ, beautiful as it is. I am living in Munich, Germany, and enjoyed the not so dense population in your country. Munich alone has roughly 1,5 Mill. people and is quite crowded (about 4.700 inhabitants/km² compared to your Auckland with about 286 inh/km² and similar number). The landscape is fabulous and the sky has certain similarities to Bavaria. Most important, the cordiality of the people, regardless whether they are descendants of immigrants or indigenous, was overwhelming. Sometime in the coming years I will renew my visit to your country. Have fun and hang loose!
A video on tips to move to New Zealand would be really helpful! We’re South African but we moved to the UK two years ago. I really miss the SUN! And we want a safe place to raise our boy :)
Please leave video requests down below and i'll film them!!!
Morning/night routine or makeup collection !! xx
Would a livestock Veterinarian have a good chance of finding jobs and living a good life?
Yes
I just moved to new Zealand andI love it here. I feel so safe, calm and i really have found my inner peace.
i'm so glad you found your inner peace here that's beautiful!
I'm from New Zealand and live in nz and nz is the best and most beautiful place
What I love about New Zealand is that when you come home from school or work you can relax at the beach, go skateboarding with your mates and have a BBQ with your family. But compared to Sweden where I live. When you come home you grab your computer/iPad and nothing more really.
Why can't do those things in Sweden? Is it just too cold or something haha?
Dani Watt Yeah. I've also just come home from nz so frankly quite miss it.
I wish. Not where I am. Hello darkness my old friend. I just watch this stupid stuff when I get home. Nothing to do here in nz
Daniel watt. We don't do that. I'm nz and we only get to do that in the summer holidays
Guy got off his commuter train a couple of days ago and waded into nearby beach and phographed a pod of Orca hunting.
As a New Zealander, I can agree with everything she's said. Great information :)
Planning on working in NZ with a working holiday visa!
It's great that people are welcoming there
Young boy comin from Tokyo, Japan
That would be awesome I would totally recommend doing that! Wow i'd love to visit Tokyo someday it looks amazing :)
Dani, I am Australian and I agree with all your points. I have spent quite a bit of time in NZ although if you love friendly quality people such as yourself then I don't recommend Sydney as its very clicky, expensive and people can be very unhelpful. I am coming back to New Zealand in 2018.
Some people are and some people are not helpful
Zackary Selfe Sydney is pretty medicore
Cairo Murphy how is it mediocre?
This was much more informative than I was expecting. Thumbs up.
👍
Parker Shinn I know. I just came here for the beautiful girl.
Ended up in Detroit after the war.
He loved it there
what were you expecting?
I'm from Germany and have been to NZ twice. I'd love to come back someday again because the landscape is just stunning! You're so lucky to live in such a beautiful place :)
Yeah it is pretty nice! I would love to visit Germany though.
Germany is beautiful too Maybe the landcapes aren't as diverse as New Zealand ,but still beautiful
Mela N funny to hear you say that, cos I think Germany is way more beautiful :) ofc both are lovely
@@DaniWatt sounds good will wait for it. Thanks

I'll be going to New Zealand for eight weeks for an internship and I could not be more excited!

Hey so my family is thinking about moving to NZ. The only thing is, I really want to know what the schools are like and what the students are like over there.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! My wife and I would LOVE to move out of the USA, and it sounds like New Zealand is the ideal place for us.
The main differences are:
-The weather: Very long, hot summers and warm winters in FL.
As it seems I'm not eligible for any of them =[
Many Thanks
I was born in the US when my parents lived here before, so I didn't have to worry about visas. Sorry to be useless :/

Why don't you ask the American Embassy, they have an enquiry section.
Denise G- Hill I will do, thanks!

South = Otara, Flatbush, Papatoetoe, Mangere etc
&
East = Glen Innes, Panmure, Mt Wellington, Orakei etc
West Auckland doesn't have that much crime rate, & North.......... North just stays as North
EDIT* I grew up on both side and have seen worse on both sides
Lots To Learn I'm from south, but my house and car is always left unlocked.
Mission bay is the best suburb in Auckland :)

Also, preparing my trip I kind of considered moving to NZ in the future but I know it's not really possible. Your video was very informative and fascinating! Thank you!
Hi I have been to NZ four years ago and I would say it is one of the most beautiful places in the world! May I ask what your background music is? I have been watching your videos so many times but every time I am always interested in your music!
Hey Dani please make a video on how to move to New zealand, i am very interested in coming there
Likewise, I am also interested, as I have long understood it is very hard to become a citizen of NZ.
It's awesome in NZ it's great mate
Watching from Canada, and I'm thinking one day I might move to NZ

Thank you for the video. I'm excited for my family to thrive in your beautiful country.❤
Good idea. Thanks.
My question is,
So I work in water distribution/ treatment, how are jobs like that in New Zealand ?
Also, are government jobs hard for foreigners to get?
Wonderful Dani! Thank you for the useful info, i'd love to go to NZ indeed!
Hi Nathalie, Yes must visit country..🙂
Problems:
* In 2016, New Zealand's GDP per capita, restated in US$, was only 69% of the comparable value for the USA, and the lowest among the 6 first world English speaking countries;
* Housing in the main cities, and in the more desirable rural towns, is quite dear. In much of the USA, housing is quite inexpensive;
* Many jobs do not pay very well;
* A diversified portfolio requires investing in Australian and American securities. The resulting exchange risk cannot be avoided;
* The income tax is quite simple, esp. if one is not a business owner and owns no foreign securities. If you don't have children under 18, the income tax is also harsh, with income taxed from the first dollar.
* The tax treatment of foreign equities and unit trusts is especially harsh. If you own a house in New Zealand, or rent one year-round, you will owe some income tax if you live in New Zealand more than 6 weeks out of the tax year;
* It is not unusual in New Zealand for people to hold management positions not because they are competent, but because they were the least bad of a very weak bunch of applicants, or were the only applicant;
* The system of socialised medicine does not cover many state of the art treatments, and rations access to the treatments that system does offer, via waiting lists. Immediate access to quality health care requires private health insurance
Thank you for this detailed list. Lots of good information.

Robert.

I'm from England and am hopefully going to work in NZ for a year, no idea where I want to live yet, was considering Auckland or Christchurch!
Awesome! Both places would be good. Auckland will have more opportunities job wise but being in Christchurch would be pretty cool as it'd be much easier to explore and road trip the south island which is the most beautiful part of NZ! Good luck :)
How does Christchurch differ from Wellington? Which one would you recommend? Thanks for replying!
Laura
Everywhere in the world , effort and patience is needed to find a job. I know a person who moved to Canada and has spent few months training and searching for a job before he was employed despite having a certificate but a foreign French certificate.
Opportunities are found almost everywhere but you have to like the place where you want to live to be able to get accustomed.

And I do conservation work with Kiwi, and I know how fragile they are :-(
I'm from canada, thinking of going to NZ for 2 years for graduate school!! what do you think of auckland?
Patrick Johnson I heard that many people leave NZ and go to Canada
Lots people leaving because the government getting strict on immigrant trying to get permanent residency, (mostly Asian).so to be Canadian that is not going to affect you coming to NZ study.
That's because we are both Commonwealth countries. Be less strict than America and more affordable than UK.
ignore him, if you want to see new zealand the south island all the way, it's beautiful :)
Queenstown is so beautiful!! It would be amazing to live there minus the cost!!
you live in NSW im guessing the cost would be similar if you live near sydney.

From MN, USA. One day I shall explore New Zealand 🙌🤗😍
One day you shall😂
@@dragonmaster8998 yes indeed.
I'm from MN as well and actually thinking about moving there soon!!
Hey I’m from Wales but lived in Te Puke for 2 years when I was 10. I often want to go back and visit my old friends and family.
The people I met in NZ where so open and welcoming made my feel like i belonged 😊
Dear Dani,
I am a linguist from Mexico.
Any tips? Australia or New Zealand?
guess it depends on whether you want to sound like an Aussie or a Kiwi....
and they beat us on stealing our stuff XD
@mtuckster you are comparing a continental climate with oceanic.
That's funny. @@isaakvandaalen3899
@mtuckster wrong. Auckland actually has a slightly higher average year round temperature than Melbourne. One or two 38C+ days in summer doesnt compensate for the colder winters they get.
I'm from Samoa but I came to nz when I was 3
Bugger, lol
10 mins to the beach and 30 mins to the mountain?? The only place I can think of is Taranaki?? Ya?? (Patea is my home town)
Although I'm living in Auckland
Yes you guessed correctly! I'm from New Plymouth 😄
There is no where else in the country like it! Dad lives in Fitzroy. 60 years old ande still surfs everyday!
I'm glad you loved it :)
Im from Thailand. Finished HS from Singapore. Deciding whether to move to AUS or New zealand.. hmmm
Christmas Is Awesomeness try oz because they have better opportunities but I'm telling you we got a better lifestyle NZ so auz if you want to make alot of money fast but NZ for good living
Yesssssssss new Zealand finally a video that is not is USA I love nz it is amazing

Faith Pillissi hard to start a new life
Yeah when I was in Greece there was a guy I met who lived on the same road I grew up on in NZ.
Moving from Denmark (Europe) to Christchurch in about 2 months time! Can't wait! :) Great video
I agree that Canada is an amazing country but it's not as enjoyable to live there in winter.
I hate winter
NZ is similar in land mass to the UK or Japan. plenty of room!
In Cambridge houses cost around a million dollars
Dennis foster do you even love in new zealand? Houses where I am are inches apart
All you see is the land that we can't live in. The bushes and forest aren't able to be lived in. And we've got active volcanoes too
Hi all I'm from Kazakhstan)) Does anybody know where is it? I bet not much. So anyway thanks for the videos. Take care
Yes we do.They teach geography at New Zealand Schools. And we grow Apples !
Central Asia and it has had the same president for more than 25 years ( A dictatorship)

Aw that's so cool. Nice to hear such a beautiful story Sarai. :)
I'm from Batangas, Philippines
ala eh?
hope you have Marijuana. Canada has legalized weed in July 2018 I need my weed
You shouldn't have too much of a problem my friend 😂
Stay in Canada, P is the most popular drug of choice, synthetic weed is easier to obtain than the real stuff. NZ is behind the 8 ball as far as legalising weed so don't come here if you're looking for weed paradise. NZ is gods zone so you actually can get a natural high from living life in a laid back paradise that is NZ, no need to self medicate👍
#KiwiKid.
I am a Kiwi
WHOO HOO, like if you are a kiwi as well
Go kiwis, from a kiwi traveling in Europe...theres no place like home 😀
I love my home country it’s New Zealand 🇳🇿 😁😁😋
Hi dear

Hansell Barros why???
Aye aye. Yass. Same
Arriaga Two yip
Ayla Robinson Same!

Thanks for all the great info. My husband and I plan on visiting New Zealand and seeing if we would like to stay!! From Washington State, USA
Lol who steals a car on an island? XD like eventually you will find them lmao
it's a really big island! NZ covers a greater land area than Great Britain. google should confirm that fact for you
It’s not like the country is 100km by 100km . It’s a country
U been to south Auckland?
Dude thats my car!
well actually it is not as small as you think
Enjoy the candid comment and the different perspective.
im a kiwi thru and thru south island us kiwis are friendly as but we just wanna talk about rugby as apose to ourselves so we seem unfriendly
Good weed🌿🌿but i see u already know🤣🤗
Hi Dani,
thanks for your information, - sums up my experiences of a 5-weeks Lord of the Rings Tour around 2005 pretty good, although I do not plan to move to NZ, beautiful as it is.
