I love Tintagel. At the end of the day Cornwall should realise we people with campervans bring money into it. Yes there are a few who don’t clean up but most of us are decent and care for the environment we leave behind. Cornwall is beautiful. It’s a pity Newquay seems to do its best to deter campers. Tintagel does it right.
Another freeloader who thinks they're entitled to cause traffic jams with their slow vans, block narrow country lanes, use public toilets as their bathrooms, fill litter bins with domestic rubbish - and all for free! Don't come to Cornwall - you're not wanted here!
I think everyone in the van community needs to look after each other regarding these these type of sites. Don’t hide if you see a van or abusing the facilities or leaving rubbish just tell them because if you don’t we will all take the blame. Equally whenever I arrive and leave I always try and pick up some litter or improve the area in a small way. If we all do this for each other these places will be perfect for the locals.
Another brilliant vlog , as always, let’s hope other Cornwall and Devon councils re-think their car park rules as van life and motorhomes love these places!
Good video mate, good to see you have a few beers and chill! Tintagel is a beautiful, magical place, and glad that the locals see the campervans as a postive, and good for trade. I know that during the summer months, Dorset, Cornwall & Devon are extremely busy, and it is difficult for everyone. I do however feel that the councils could open up their Car parks for overnight campers during the "off season" as this would bring valuable income to the local economy, I think if you spoke to local business owners then they would welcome this. Come on Councils, open up your car parks for overnight stays, say from October to April, Just charge an overnight fee. Simple.
@@lynnedurham8698 It's called a bin............ and most responsible campervan owners take their waste with them to find appropriate places to dispose of it. Most places have recycling bins these days or is that beyond your petty little mind to understand.........
Nice to see you are welcome somewhere in Cornwall Shaun, can't blame the businesses for liking the extra footfall as it all helps to pay their bills. Nice video mate.
Good one - Your 2 interviewees had Northern 'Corniche' Accents. Someone who worked at Tintagel English Heritage says in the height of the Summer they take £60k - EACH Day, however this Tintagel Magnet does wonders for the community as a hole - the coastline is spectacular. Almost ALL of these funds are sent to other English Heritage Sites. Recommend visiting the Large Hotel that overlooks Tintagel and spending the money saved on their facilities, with an awesome Sundowner overlooking Tintagel castle. The Cornwall County Car park charge is fair and of course, this money does get put back into the community coffers.
Good vlog Shaun, It's a shame more towns don't follow Tintagel. I had a diesel heater in a truck years ago. I never had it on full. Even on the coldest winter nights, it's a must!!!. Keep the vlogs coming

Great glad to hear that. I fully understand village's not welcoming campervans both from the litter point of view and taking their parking spaces. In our local village the council have notices in the public toilets requesting campervans not to dispose of their waste in their facilities so it is happening alot everywhere.
We have been to Tintagel twice this year and parked here. Brilliant little park up even in the winter when you have to be self-contained. The food in the pub is not bad either.
I love visiting tin tin as my son calls it. We sleep in the same car park. Never had any issues. Had a guy reverse into our van once. But no damages. 🤩🌼🌺✨

Tintagel is a really nice place to visit & so campervan friendly. It's a shame most of the rest of Cornwall is so anti van. We're just up the road in North Devon and on the times we've been down south can't understand why so many places don't like vans.😮
Interesting that there ARE communities and councils who do get it, that camper vans and overnight sleepers are not some dangerous weirdos, but the bringer of business. Thank you for another informative video!
Really depends on how many vans and how much space is available. Despite all the protests of the “it’s the minority” there are still too many vans ignoring no overnight parking signs and causing problems for locals, not to mention the rubbish and sometimes human waste left for others to clean up. There’s a car park not far from me that has 35 spaces allocated for vans, yet they counted 95 staying there overnight. Locals are now calling for a total ban.
Great video Shaun we love that part of cornwall. Tintagel You never said how the IPA Toast beer was. ? Also what happened when you set up the van for night time and when you came back from the meal. the side screen was gone, 😂🤣 yes we do note things like this. I am a campervan owner and I stay in campsites which allows me to use the facilities. eg showers toilets and waste disposal. My objection to this wild camping as it is called is where do you dispose of your toilet waste grey waste and rubbish. That is the purpose of campsites so that you dont dump your waste in public toilets and public waste bins.Campsites are not expensive especially as a fortune is spent on the van!,😢
Are you insured if anything happens sleeping wild camping or carparks ? Xx I've never taken our van into a public carpark or lay-by? ❤❤ always campsites.
I visit Cornwall in the summer & the lack of parking is a pain - councils are missing a trick & some needed income if they would provide overflow car parking in the summer. I have driven around & around up to an hour trying to find spaces at various places, then just driven off & away to anywhere more welcoming.
The problem is where I live in Cornwall there is not enough parking for the people who live here. The tourist season is horrible and there really is nowhere for vanlifers to park, but they still do even though there are big notices telling them not to.
I have a camper. In the summer months I tend to book onto holiday sites because it gets so busy. So I understand your point. But I love that Tintagel is so welcoming.
I absolutely get this. Whilst I don't live in Cornwall, I do live in the New Forest where we have a similar issue. I don't see why out of the height of season the car parks can't allow overnight camping though. Maybe no camper vans during the day but after 6pm...stay until 8am the following day?
problem we have here in far west cornwall is that we have excellent free car parks in st Just and Pendeen and too many tourists leave their cars there for 1-2 weeks while they fly to the isles of scilly rather than pay for the quite cheap airport and ferry parking, which leaves no spaces for locals. They are putting barriers in to keep out vans now. They sort of missed the pint.

There is a field just after the hotel that the farmer opens for overnight stays 🚐 not sure if open over winter as wet grass could be an issue but it overlooks the coast line and looks fabulous - I must go 😊🐾🚐 been meaning to for ages
In lytham, between blackpool and Southport , they've pretty much banned campervans from their seafront. I guess local businesses must be booming and not need the few extra hundred pounds that would be brought into the area . Its full of posh twunts anyway , id rather drive for 30 mins and go to Fleetwood.
Councils should consider building more "one night" park ups and charge accordingly. Why not encourage van owners to holiday and spend money in the area?
Places that save no overnight parking are usually boy racers dream sites too. If I were the locals, I would rather have a few vans parked around taking up the space than a load of whooping yobos setting light to stuff and zooming about regardless of the noise or danger. Most genuine van campers have 'pick up and bin' tools to go around tidying after themselves and others. It almost always local day visitors who leave rubbish and break things. When we visited cumbria we watched a family feeding apples to the horses in a field with please do not feed the horses signs and another group burning stuff by the lake which was still there after they left along with dirty nappies just left laying. These people come in cars and leave the same day.
£16 blooming heck that's how they get you we joined nts years ago culzean castle is £18 per head its less per month to be amember but if you don't use it .....hey ho.
I really like your content, but your main camera makes watching very painful. It's so jittery. Like image stabilization that can't keep up. Absolute video quality means nothing if you can't hand hold it, and I really think your camera needs a tripod. I know there are loads to choose from and stuff, but most higher end compacts will do much better than this. Even older used ones. Like the Sony ZV-1 (not the ZV-1F! That has a fixed 20mm eqivalent lens!) or a Panasonic LX-100. Especially the Pana is great in low light. And REALLY great as a still camera as well. The ZV-1 has mic input, though, and is geared towards vloggers.
Welcome is a free air in any European country. in this country you more welcome on any beach in a dinghy with no passport than a camper van we should be ashamed
Theres a bit of a pattern here. When i was young, my family used to take me on holiday to park in cornwall, staying in our touring caravan. Because the journey was long and the roads were less good, this often meant stopping overnight on the way there and back. We almost always did so, by pulling over to a lay by at the side of the road, in order to let the driver sleep for a few hours. We would then have breakfast in the caravan (or in the cafe if there was one) get washed and dressed, before proceeding on our way, leaving nothing behind. Back in those days, there were decent lay-bys every few miles. Some were better than others. Some had toilets, some didnt. Some had cafes, some didnt. Some were literally an extra lane right next to the highway, while others were seperated from the carriageway by a grass verge or even better, completely spaced away and iut of sight and sound from the road. In any case, now I take my children to the same place. En route I've noticed that over the years, those lay-bys have been removed and put beyond use by the local authorities. Sometimes its clearly because a better development has come along, or the road has been widened, but other times its perfectly clear that its been malociously infilled, and made useless by the dumping of gravel or concrete blocks. This phenomenon is much worse within Cornwall itself than along the route, and its so short sighted. There will always be some people who dont want to pay 5 star hotel prices to stay in England. Those people still want to come along and spend money on the only real industry Cornwall now has left (tourism), and the open obvious hostility to campers and caravanners is so self destructive. I completely understand that there could be those who would misuse the lay by, and perhaps make it their temporary home for a period of weeks, rather than using them for their original purpose - a place to park and rest for a while. If that is the problem, the solution would be to signpost and enforce waiting time limits of say 12 hours. As it happens, recently ive been lucky enough to be able to pay for a hotel while making that journey, but if I had a campervan or a caravan, and was unable to stop and rest for a few hours during the journey, guess what? I would take my holiday, and my money elsewhere, for example in Europe where the weather is often better and the prices almost always lower. I just happen to love Cornwall, but that live has its limits. Tintagel is a beautiful village and one I've always enjoyed visiting.
You wonder why all council car parks don’t let ye park overnight, I assume it’s because locals would usual react badly to it.. financially though you’d think councils would be all over it..
Buying a ticket for overnight stay would probably show intent not to drive after drinking. I am not a solicitor however, I only play one on the internet.....
You have to be sensible about this, you really need to be somewhere you are allowed to stay overnight, so no possibility of being moved on, but also, the Police have to be able to show that you "intended" to drive off, in order to use "Drunk in charge" laws. When you are in bed asleep, and you have paid for a overnight ticket, it is pretty obvious you do not intend to drive.
I think it's actually drunk in charge of a motor vehicle and several people have been prosecuted for sleeping in the back seat of their cars on the side of the road. If you have your keys on you then you are "in charge.'

Couldn't care if the locals get butthurt... that's their problem lmao
Yeah but if you keep good relations and not cause issues then it benefits everyone. At the end of the day this is where people live so we need to respect their town.
Don't really understand why people don't like camper vans as they spend money like anyone else. And can be more considerate 😂
Many buy up in the big supermarkets and then spend nothing in local pubs, restaurants or shops.
@@practicallyperfect2941exactly. You can see them all lined up at our Tesco on a weekend loading up ready for a weekend of inconveniencing locals before filling their tank at the local international mega corp fuel station whilst buying a coffee from an FTSE100 listed companies vending machine. 👍🏻
great vid, how is the law, regarding drinking, even though , you were staying all night ???? txs
Where I live the traffic wardens soon slap a fine on your car / van after 22.00 not really many places to park over night pretty rubbish to be honest.
You can always spot a thriving town / village they say by how many pubs there are.... Guess Tintagel might be one...?
Very cosy.
i love you man your videos really are the best
Thanks Matt 😂
lovely place. Would you ever consider travelling to Dorset, if so let me know & I'll buy you a pint 🙌
King Arthur did exist but he was from Yorkshire, not Cornwall. King Arthur was born in a village near Leeds GOOGLE
Wow that's cheap! At most south coast towns we go to it's over £5 for just 3 hours!!
My nan used to have the laundry shop there with my step grandad for years and then when my nan died he got with his step daughter carol and got married to her and then she died and he sold it. Shame as when I went to the village they said they missed it my my step grandad Peter was a wrongen in my eyes as both his wife’s died the same way with bruises that could not be explained 😢 but he’s passed away now so best thing all round really and I don’t mean that nicely as I don’t wish it on anyone but come one he was never questioned about on either death 😢
Is it still the same for the parking 😊
There is a field just after the hotel that the farmer opens for overnight stays 🚐 not sure if open over winter as wet grass could be an issue but it overlooks the coast line and looks fabulous - I must go 😊🐾🚐 been meaning to for ages
France.....motorhome heaven.
Uk dismal for motorhomes.
Hi mate where did u get the blackout cover for your side window please?

It's not the height which kills you.
Hitting the ground does that.
If you want to be afraid of something, be afraid of floors.
The fwd is probably why you seem to have less confidence in the wet rather than the tyres. Rwd every time for me for a driving aspect.
What kind of insurance do you need for a van like this? I’m thinking contents wise.
What the difference between a motor home and a Van? Just thinking Camping restrictions shouldn't restrict you..... and neither Motorhomes ??
It cost me £4 for hospital car park for 2 hrs lol
Bossiney is better
All Cornwall car parks SHOULD be doing it
I wish our peoples history had been better preserved, more lost every day
£16 blooming heck that's how they get you we joined nts years ago culzean castle is £18 per head its less per month to be amember but if you don't use it .....hey ho.
😉👍🏴
You say van's can park overnight in in most car parks in Tintagel, but do you that they would let the odd caravan park overnight as well.
From what I can remember to park with a caravan or trailer you have to pay double and I think you can only park in the day time
I've never seen a van lifer with two fridges, that's cool.
Same old “the few” spoiling it for the rest
5.5 on a good day shaun you liar 😂
Lol
You wonder why all council car parks don’t let ye park overnight, I assume it’s because locals would usual react badly to it.. financially though you’d think councils would be all over it..
Do something with it !!!! Did is ridiculous and against the law actually.
Did is fine.
Not sure about a 5G Ariel…..
I wonder how you would stand if the police came to your van after drinking or would you be OK been on a council car park ....
The easiest way is to not open the door when the knock. I’ll answer the door once I’ve sobered up 😂
🤣🤣@@LoveSundays
I think it's actually drunk in charge of a motor vehicle and several people have been prosecuted for sleeping in the back seat of their cars on the side of the road. If you have your keys on you then you are "in charge.'
