I actually played the 1x8 speaker with this amp.... and it sounds really good. I did NOT expect it to, but that 1x8 cab is capable of more than it looks like. Freakin... orange, man
If anyone were thinking of getting this Just get the head and save a bit more money for a better cab,go for atleast 2x12 This tiny guy is capable of powering even a 4x12
This thing is louder than you think. I have it hooked up to two Orange 1X12 cabs, 60 watts each. I use it mostly for recording when not connected to the cabs because it sounds so good. It even takes pedals like a champ just like my Orange Pro Crush 120. Impress your neighbors, get the Micro Dark.
I just bought this head, and two- 1x8s. Do you run 1 speaker cable out of the headphone jack in the front or a splitter from the back...just wondering?
I'm playing my LTD gh-600 thru this micro dark terror into a carvin 4x12 cab and it sounds so lovely. I turn that little guy up to 3 or 4 when I wanna be nice and loud, the distortion is so heavy but not muddy at all and if I palm mute my strings.....no hissing, no static, no crackles. Just perfect silence waiting to have it's jaw broken when I start playing. I run no pedals on this rig and use my guitar volume to change sounds. I totally recommend these amps, way to go Orange!
Thanks for the comment I was wondering if it would be a good fit with my 15w orange combo amp, only thing i dont like about the amp is how volume 3 = loud as f
Haha, I still have my original Metal Zone from 1992!! I don't use it of course, as it's impossible to get a clear lead tone, too much noise for my tastes. There must be 20 videos calling that the worst pedal ever made, which I disagree with, I learned to play guitar through that and a 70s Peavey Standard head. The rhythm tones you get with that are amazing!! You can dial in pretty much ANY tone but it's muddy as hell.
Hi Dagan. I'm thinking of buying a Micro Terror and a 1x12 Mesa cab. Could it be good ? I'm looking for a cheap Metal "Head & Cab" configuration but i don't know much about amp gear...
Heya, looking for advice - I just got the MD and need to find a cab. I like punk and am going for the 'fat sound' (think NOFX). While playing through my earbuds it sounds a bit muddled and I hope it's just because of the earbuds. For example when I palm mute, downstroking for a defined punk tone (i.e Green Day's Basket Case) its fuzzy sounding. Any advice how to best get the sound/tone I want? Add a tube screamer? Carefully select a cab with good speakers? Swap out the tube? Thanks
I’m late on this but yeah it’s probably your earbuds idk if higher quality studio headphones might be better but it might I’ve just never done it myself
Get a set of In Ear Monitors like the Shure or Westone brand if you want to use earbuds Shure has a single Dynamic driver 215 series(get the Blue ones for extra Bass profile if you want that)typically they are around $80 these days, or headcans Creative Labs makes a small + light set of headcans with excellent cellulose drivers with great accuracy and range.
You told the same exact story about the micro terror. Plexi blew up every other day...blah blah blah. WAS THERE EVEN A PLEXI?! How can i ever find trust again...
I used to have an epiphone custom and loved it to death, the feel, the sound, the hardware. Only thing is that it is a bit heavy. I sold it to a friend years ago.and just bought a comparable and lighter guitar. My friend said he'll sell it back to me and I just may one day.
First, No - DONT use a splitter unless it’s explicitly made for Speaker cabs (audio TS/TRS style ones can damage the amp as they’re not designed to carry the same amount of power and use a lighter gauge of wire inside). I’ve watched a friend burn out his amp’s transformer when we were teens by thinking they could just use an instrument cable when they didn’t have a speaker cable handy. Second, to chain the two, it’s really best to wire them together properly (soldering heavier gauge wire) to get a new circuit with the 2 amps in parallel if using something like a Micro Dark which iirc has only one output. When doing this though, you need to be aware the impedance will be altered so check it’s still suitable for the amp. Take a look at this breakdown by Hughes and Kettner which might help blog.hughes-and-kettner.com/ohm-cooking-101-understanding-amps-speakers-and-impedance/ Tbh though, unless you’re dead set on it the 2x8, my 2 cents would be to buy a 2x10 or 1x12 as the larger speakers just have a fuller, more balanced sound and combining the 1x8 cabs isn’t going to fix the shortcomings of 8 inch speakers. I understand cost might be a factor but used ones shouldn’t be too difficult if on a budget, or something like Harley Benton new- they’re not the greatest built cabs, but speakers are identical to more premium stuff. Hope this helps you!
Can anyone tell me the difference between the ppc108 20w 8 inch cabinet $99 used in this video vs the 20w 8inch Orange amp $150? Would this micro dark sound good thru the orange20 or only thru a cabinet?
So for $100 you get a 20-watt head that fits in your guitar case that goes from 70s Marshall to an all be it, weak 80s Mesa Boogie "new metal" tone. I'm going between this and the Bugera T5, which is only 5 watts but sounds better (over Boston Acoustics computer speakers that is). Any ideas?
Why didn't you put it into a 2x12, or 4x12? Who is going to piss around with that little cabinet? You wasted 6 minutes on something people aren't going to do.
Beg to differ....Korn, Mastodon, Slipknot, Sepultura, Deftones, Crowbar, In Flames, Hellyeah, Iron Maiden and Down are are just a few Orange sponsored....
bohdilama The whole 'xxxx Amp isn't for xxx genre' statement is just stupid. You can play metal through a Fender Amp if it sounds good to you. Was the Fender designed for metal? No, but if it sounds good to you, who cares! Striped down to the most basic level, an amplifier has just one job, to 'amplify' the guitar signal. So does it REALLY matter what type of amp you use as long as it sounds good to you?
Sorry for the$289 that head and cabinet runs you You can do much better for your money Sounds like your playing in coffee can Boss katana, fender champion, crush35 rt all less All better imho
Chris all three of,those you mentioned do not sound as good as the micro dark in my opinion. Those sound and feel digital to play while this does not. It’s the shitty little cab that’s making it sound bad here. Almost all the RUclips demos keep using this lame matching cab for some reason, when it doesn’t sound good.
Chris I own a katana 50 and a Micro dark and I can confirm that the Micro dark sounds way better. It’s the tube in it that makes the difference solid state doesn’t seem to replicate that sound or react the same way. Is one better then the other no because there’s pros and cons to both. But when it comes to tone more time and money has gone into it by Orange 🍊 and that is all it does. Boss has more time put into the effects and so is a Jack of all trades but a master of none.
I actually played the 1x8 speaker with this amp.... and it sounds really good. I did NOT expect it to, but that 1x8 cab is capable of more than it looks like. Freakin... orange, man
Dont buy the 8” cab, this amp is capable to sound amazing with 4x12
Eeeee 20W on 4x12?
@@BigBoss1982 Yes hommie, This amp has a class AB solid State power amp section. That can push a 4x12 Cab easily.

Time to buy a £200 Harley benton 4x12

What if I have a mesa cab? Would that sound decent you think? Looking to upgrade my bugera head.
Just bought this with a 2x12 marshall cab. So fucking loud!
Ordered a noise gate cuz the amp itself is loud tho. Hopefully that can quiet down the hum.
You were playing Blood and thunder by Mastodon my friend, nice you threw in the riff from Walk. 👍

Never in my life did I expect to hear Eternal Rest busted out in an amp demo, awesome !
I run my micro dark through two
1 x12 orange cabs. Its sounds great!

Same here. It can shake the house, no lie.
I’m blown away, thank you for the demo! I’m a subscriber now that I found your channel! Orange amps are definitely on another level!

Really
Mastodon blood and thunder
and it was most probably recorded on an Orange
@@TannerSidetrax It was in fact recorded with an Orange!!
I have that same guitar. It's a very versatile guitar.
I have one of these and it's brutal. Thru a 4x4 it sounds like a full size head. Dagan, demo it with a real cabnet.
Beartooth recorded there whole guitar part of there album with this one amp . Enough said .
Aggressive or Disgusting? Because the guitar tone on Disgusting is amazing
@@EJ2K2K I think it was both

I run this with my boss ds1 pedal into a cab and the distortion tones you get are fantastic
same with sd-1
Btw the song was Blood And Thunder by Mastodon.
My beautiful dream guitar.
@Jack Carter Not really because Frank played it, but because Rhandy Rhoads played it.
Its blood and thunder by mastodon, 4 years later 😅
2 Texas riffs, and a mastodon riff? I'm about it
Nothing like learning about amps from jack sparrow
You can turn it into a fucking beast from a lil monster by chucking in a pedal baby in your rig. Basically turns 20 watts into 100watts
That was Mastodon. Blood and Thunder
I love mine with my pod xt live through a 1x12 harley benton
Super late, Blood and Thunder by Mastodon was that riff you played.
I got one. The head. I plugged it into my orange 1x15 holy s#it !!! Super win.

a metalzone in the effects loop

worst fucking pedal ive ever used tbh
I have it with the 8" cabinet. This thing is loud for it's size.
5 Years later… Blood and Thunder Mastodon😆🤘🏽
Eternal rest? That's probably the most metal song you played here lol
Blood and thunder 🤘
