Laney cub super top. Only amp I will ever need. Just about put me in tears as to how great it sounds. Thank you so much for doing this rundown. Would have never discovered exactly what I have been searching for. Used to record with a bassbreaker 15 but the noise was ridiculous so wanted something with same specs but better engineering. Absolute home run with this Laney.
I'm currently gigging with my Shoegaze/dream pop band, I'm the clean section guy and I can tell you the Micro dark is LOUD and it does so without getting gritty. The FX Loop is the golden ticket for me. I bolt this to my pedalboard and the set up so clean and tidy. No cable trails for me!
I think the PRS MT has the best clean tone of this group, which is always my priority with amps. (I can always use pedals to get more gain/crunch tones, but it’s tough to clean up a dirty amp)
like the Carvin V3m 50 watt 3 channel. No longer made yet still available for 5-700.00 u.s. dollars. Multi watt totally versatile, lunch box as these are. Great job on this demo-thank you.
The Laney is an absolute winner for me from this roundup. Imho this is one of the best demos in terms of sound for this amp. Maybe due to the 4x12 cabinet and mike placement. Raw, raunchy, vintage feel.
All good amps. A nice, diverse range of tones. When I needed a serious small amp for high gain tones I went with the MT15. And it wasn't a hard choice at all. There's not really any competition under $1k. The big bottles in the power section elevate it above all the small tube minis.
Great video on the amps the EVH and the PRS are my favorites. You can really here the difference between the amps most of the time on RUclips everything sounds the same. Great job man and thanks.
My favorite small amp is Orange Stamp that fits on a pedalboar. It’s a 20 watt hybrid , which is good enough for every scene nowadays, and has that very clear and bright tone that’s perfect for for all things funk and fuzzy. It doesn’t have much gain by itself, so you might want to put a Klon’s clone before it, but considering that it’s made to be put on a pedalboard, initial timid-ness is more of a plus. It also has tons of bells and whistles like headphone output with cab-sim, effect loop, which are good things, I guess
Yeah, I have one too (amongst others). It's a great little amp. Doesn't take up any space, but is plenty loud and as you mentioned, has lots of features, especially for such a small amp. I believe it's the same as the Micro Dark in this video, just in pedal format. I also have a Blackstar HT5RH which is great too. Being all tube, it's about as loud as the Orange but it's only 5 watts. ✌️🇦🇺
I have the Orange Micro Dark and recently swapped the tube for a 12AY7 to get more clean tones. It sounds amazing, especially for the price. It can lack headroom, but adding an EQ in the loop helps a lot. I also have a 30-watt Laboga and a Marshall DSL1, and honestly, the Micro Dark holds its own. I use it a lot for rehearsals and am even considering it for gigs.
@@Crunchy_Black do you have a multi effects? Four cable the Micro Dark, so your clean channel will bypass the Orange preamp, and put whatever clean tone you want right into the power section. It turns it into a two channel amp that way. Cheers!
The Blackstar sounds pretty nice! My favorite small heads are the JCM1 Marshall's that they made for the 50th anniversary. I'd been wanting one for years, but couldn't find any. Then I was at a shop a few months ago, and they were cleaningnout the back and found a Custom shop JCM1 handwired mini stack, brand new in boxes. They even gave me the "clearance" price since it was old stock, despite that they sell for much more now.
Dagan literally costs me money with every RUclips view haha. Love the sound of that Peavey 20w. I’ve been after that Marshall tone in a small head but all the 20w Marshalls need to be cranked even on the lower power setting so struggling to find one for bedroom use. This Peavey with its power reductions may be the way to go
If you're after a completely tube amp, the orange is a hybrid (I haven't watched the vid yet, so don't know if Dagan mentioned that). It has a tube (1x12ax7) preamp and a solid state power amp. I have one and it's a great amp, and it's considerably less expensive than the others here. I got it for a backup, and for convenience as it has cab sims in it to go direct to FOH if needed. Eliminates the hassle of taking a speaker cab.
As always a great Video! :D In my opinion, no other RUclipsr shows Tubeamps, especially Marshalls in the same Way, you do it! :D Thought about buying a DSL40cr or DSL1cr, bought the 40cr...than saw your Video about the 1CR and decided to buy one, too...but bought the 1HR (more to that in a few lines)...than got a offer for a Origin 5 for 140€, saw your Video and decided to buy it also... (yeah, I'm collecting Tube Amps! :D ) Love the way you present them...not just that boring "look, it can do clean and drive and has 10 knobs"...you start it with rock, show it with roll and I can decide...is that Amp Rock'n'Roll and Heavy Enough for me? Yes/No...just love it! :D To your question, which small Tube Head is our favorite...to me it's the DSL1HR, I also own others, like Epiphone Valve Junior, E-Wave DG5H and the Mega/Fame T64 Hybrid and so on... But the DSL1HR was rushed to my Number one because of many things...for first: The Sound...it's awesome! Also it has a built in Loadbox, so for traveling, just put it into my bag, take Earphone with me and having a real Tube Amp with two Channels for everywhere. Next part is the Price: I mean, come on...259€ for a new All-Tube-Marshall?! 1 Watt is also a big Pro for me here...I can use it in the Studio (located in our House) also at Night without disturbing my wife when she has to sleep...but also with 1 All-Tube-Watt you can easily play Gigs with a 1x12 or 4x12 cab and a Mic - for sure, the Clean isn't clean very long, but it's still a Marshall Clean and with soft picking or rolling the Guitar Volum a little down, it's not a big Deal...thats the next point, why I bought it...I can easily use it as Backup for each Gig I'm playing, without the need of big extra Stuff or Coming down to a 1-Channel Amp . My main Rig is the Hughes & Kettner Statesman Dual EL34 on a 1960 Lead, the second Setup for smaller Gigs or "I don't want to bring the big Stuff" Gigs is the DSL40cr. Both are awesome Setups to me, because I can play without any Pedals (and I love to play without Pedals, because I had too many Gigs with too many Pedals, so now I'm just using the Guitar -> Amp and also a Polytune 3, Pentatone Noisegate and a Wahwah with Volume function). But when something would go wrong I always had to bring a Pedal based Backup (like Overdrive/Distortion & Speaker Simulation). With the DSL1HR, I don't need that...and both of my main Setups are Using 16 Ohm Speakers (Vtype in the DSL40CR and G12-T75's in the 1960 Lead), so I don't need any extra Stuff! :D So that's why the DSL1HR is my favorite Mini-Tube-Head...but the Marshall Studio Series looks also very interesting to me...maybe in future! :D
St. James keeping it light but packs a punch. 👍🏻Seems to me that Orange lunch box sounded about the best on overdrive. The PRS though maybe the best overall tone.
Great work on this video but it was funny too hear you say the peavey still needed a cab as the camera swept past the speaker defeat button. Still great showcase of these amazing amps
I've got a H&K tubemeister deluxe 20 id probably put that in place of the Marshall its about the same size. I can plug it into recording software to make music its all tube and, if you have a cab you can power soak it to 1 watt so its great for practicing. it takes my fuzz really nice and sounds killer
There are a few beauties out there but may I add, make sure that whatever or whichever cab you are playing them through (if you pick up more than one) is "neutral-voiced". Some cabs sound great with one type of head but not so much with another. Hopefully I explained that right. That Blackstar was pretty even. My fave of this video was the Laney.

This is such an amazingly entertaining and informative video!!! I love listening to this guy and he obviously knows what he's talking about

The best "Fender Clean" tone comes from a Peavey...
