I’ve had my Boss Katana 100 for nearly 18 months and I must admit I haven’t actually made the effort to find the sweet spot. I tend to dial in as I go. I’ll have a play round with it later
I got the Katana Artist mkII and I am completely baffled by the sheer configuration combinations. The Boss Tone Studio really helped me. I installed some community based patches and tweaked them. I asked my wife and kid to run some errands for the afternoon and I cranked it. My house rattled off the foundation!
The Fender Mustang GT200 that I recently purchased surprised me by not only outdoing the Katana I used as my primary amp at home in the range of effect options and vintage amplifiers plus cabinets but also having an all around better sounding speaker and tone overall. The Katana is the shit but I'm extremely impressed by Fender's constant updates that improve the amp every time they release a software patch.
I liked how all control settings are demonstrated with successive detail, and with comparisons that use evenly played and similar riffs so you can definitely hear exactly what the controls do. I especially liked how the presenter didn't use this video as a vehicle to show off how awesomely they can shred, although it's clear that they're an excellent guitar player.
Excellent video! As a beginner trying to understand how to use the amp is as daunting as learning the guitar itself !! My Fender GT 40 has got so many options to change everything makes me want to have amp lessons as well as guitar lessons!
Omg! I understand my amp so much more now! Still not sure about my preamp lol. You gave me so much very helpful info. I just inherited my brother's electric epiphone. I only played acoustic before. I never plugged in He wanted to give me some lessons. The guy was a live sound engineer! He was just in a different city than me. I will be watching this again & checking out more of your info. Thank you so much 🤘💙🎵💙
If you have a valve state non tube amp that has great sound on rhythm/chords but the lead guitar sounds thin than I suggest an Ibanez tube screamer pre amp pedal All you have to do is step on it and your lead guitar has a more tube amp sound... More warm and it will boost your volume when you take your lead! My fender twin champion needs one! My next purchase...
Great video for a rookie like me. I have 2 amps, a practice Amp that only has volume, treble and base knobs and a button when pushed in is O.D. and not pushed in is clean. I think that's pretty simple stuff, yet I can get some different sounds out of it. The other Amp is an acustic Amp and has more knobs: gain, low, middle, high, reverb, chorus, and master. It's a 2 Chanel, instrument and microphone. Your video has been very helpful in setting both of these amps up. Thank you!!!!!
What an incredibly helpful video man I’m very adhd so it’s really hard to grasp some of these things in a way I can understand it I’ve been playing for 8 years now but did mostly acoustic because I understood the instrument but was completely baffled by the amp and all it’s settings knew how to play what I heard in my head but had no clue how to get the tone I had in mind you’re a great help!
Exactly the same for me too. Been releasing music for the last year and a bit and finally want to start doing live music. However, I know nothing of tones so literally learning from scratch. Annoying because I’ve had a bit of success with my music online but that’s because other people have mixed it and picked the tones for me lol
This was so helpful! I recently bought an electric cello for traveling, and I was struggling to get a sound I was happy with on my practice bass amp (I didn't even know what the drive control was doing). You've made my practice much better!
Gain is how much you are amplifying a signal....volume is the amount of energy one puts out.think of it in this way.you are controlling a river by a dam and a gate.increasing gain will increase the wave heights.increasing volume will open the gate and thereby let more water to flow without changing wave height
Excellent tutorial on how to adjust different frequencies!!! Exactly what I do with any sound frequency/knob/equalization! Except, I'd recommend starting with all knobs at 0 (except volume, somewhat low). Then gradually increase each. This way you hear each frequency/part better how it sounds by itself.
Bravo! I've looked at dozens of videos on this topic and this one is the best. Straight forward, common sense descriptions, with a lot of helpful demos. Thanks so very much for adding some clarity to a very complex topic.
Fantastic video. Super informative. Well paced description and demonstration of each of the effects and how to manipulate them with the amplifier controls. The section on finding the sweet spot for the EQ controls on your amp has made a tremendous difference in the sound I can pull from my amp. Thank you!
Seeing the inside of the amp is kindof cool. When I bought my guitar they only had orange amps at the shop so i just got one of those. It isn't a bad practice amp. I notice the gain is almost like it has four different levels rather than a meter that just goes up gradually. *edit* oh it is called a sweet spot. Good to know the name for it.
Realy Great Video! Now I have an idea, how to find the sound I‘m searching for! Not oversimplyfying and not too much technical details, just the „Sweet Spot“ of explanation! Thank you very very much! Robert😉😎👍
Well done. Sam does outstanding reviews on everything. Great info, clearly presented without all the silly bullshit on other sites, like Anderton's. Just good, helpful, concise information. Well done.
This is so incredibly helpful. I purchased a Fender mustang GT 40 modelling amp and have been playing with it, but this clears up so many things and now I can play with eq settings and create my own presets.
I have Peavy 210 Delta Blues Amp which is all values. I need to get a Boss Katana or similar type transistor Amp. Options combined with lightness of the Amp make them ideal for practice and ease of mobility. You really need wheels to haul around a larger size Tube Amp like the Peavy.
So the confusion happens when you try to set a balance between what your amp settings are and what you do with the tone and pickup controls on the guitar itself. How do you set all this up? Amp first then guitar or what?
Thanks so much. Great for a newbie who is clueless. Next, need a video to explain what the 'line in/ out' , FX loop etc and loads of other ' holes' on my amp. Any suggestions? Thnx in advance.
This is just what I needed! Mine is the Peavey Vyper…just a little different than my old little Fender amp with my Fender strat waaayyyy back in HS. Now I got the new Ibanez Gio series and trying to figure out how to get the death metal tune….lol Big fan of Ghost, however I can’t afford the $3000 price of the pedal he uses (they use actually).
I'm hearing the feedback of a pair of harmonics on the tweaked EQ settings at 00:15:27 all of the way through the "flat" and second tweaked EQ settings demo ending at 00:16:14 (wearing headphones). I heard them again in the reverb demo. I'm the same as Nate DLR---experienced, but just want to hear what you had to say.
Great video, just bought my first (used) THR10C amp. Adjusting the knobs while playing notes really showed how each setting would affect the sound. Thanks!
Hi there, could you pleease make a video on how to use the LIMITER knob, and also the difference between using an amp with passive and active instruments? thanks :)
Really helpful post thank you. I have a Boss Katana II 100 and could not get it to sound right. Its awesome this amp was one of the featured amps in your video. thanks again !Boss
I have a small Marshall MG10 which has a single Tone knob labelled "Contour". Any idea if it's a passive or active tone control? Keep up the amazing work, your way of teaching and explaining is so clear, I love it!
That was a good video, thank you. I only wish you would have mentioned plugging in more than one component. Like a mic and a guitar. Can you add the bass? How many things can you plug into one amp? Do you lose something when you do that? Like volume? Thank you!
🚩 FINALLY.. Someone Explaining Amps!! Thank You So Much! Great Info, but Maybe Yo U could GO FURTER! 👍 Like samples of Songs, then Show how to Set the Amp. I know I sure would Appreciate it. Please 😊
in the amps like the marshall DSL series an blackstar ht series how affect the "power amp saturation" the volume and master knobs, are the master after the power tubes?
Okay... I'm starting to understand but a bit confused. I'm actually a harmonica guy. My rig is pretty cheap. I use a Park G10R and a Shure Prologue (cheap version of the 57, but with an on off switch). Oddly, it works, but I can't explain it. It kind of works with my more expensive Bulletini mic, but there are some issues because it is a much hotter mic. Harp players typically prefer small amps because they are easier to overdrive. My Park has 2 gain knobs. I'm not really sure what each one is doing. I tend to set gain 1 really low and use gain 2 to get some crunch. With the Bulletini, even with the Bulletini turned way down I have such a tiny sweet spot (maybe a quarter or an eighth of the space between two numbers on the dial). Anything more and it squeals at me. I'm trying to figure out what is happening in the circuit (without any knowledge of circuitry!) so I might be able to recommend similar solutions to friends, or at least explain why I like an amp you can buy used for $50 on ebay. Any ideas? (I'm finally thinking about building an actual pedal chain and want to think about what might work.)
Thank you so so much for this, I can’t tell you how helpful this was.
It’s actually hard to come by this information I feel
I’ve had my Boss Katana 100 for nearly 18 months and I must admit I haven’t actually made the effort to find the sweet spot. I tend to dial in as I go. I’ll have a play round with it later
Rob Nicoll the thickness of your strings and the hotness of your pickups would also shape how you decide to divert from everything set at 12’clock.
Play with the katana and your going to be amazed at it's capabilities
I got the Katana Artist mkII and I am completely baffled by the sheer configuration combinations. The Boss Tone Studio really helped me. I installed some community based patches and tweaked them. "they're"? There's ONE person and HE is clearly a man.
Really well done video. A great tool for a dad trying to help his 11 year old understand his amp. Thank you.
This guy is one of a few the most important people on youtube about guitar with Marty and Kfir channel.
After glancing over some videos I see that you are the best. I know it must have been a lot of work but I am truly grateful. Thank you.
I've been playing for 20 years and still love these kinds of helpful vids.
Excellent video! As a beginner trying to understand how to use the amp is as daunting as learning the guitar itself !! My Fender GT 40 has got so many options to change everything makes me want to have amp lessons as well as guitar lessons!

Amazing explanation. The difference between noon and the sweet spot on the knobs is so much more then i wouldve thought
Very informative and well presented without all the showing off seen in many guitar videos - thanks
I've been playing for over 50 years. For what it's worth, this guy knows his stuff.
The dialing in the EQ sweet spots was very informative. Thanks for that.
Great video for a rookie like me. I have 2 amps, a practice Amp that only has volume, treble and base knobs and a button when pushed in is O.D. and not pushed in is clean. This video is fantastic. So helpful and easy to understand. I have now dialled in such a sweet tone on my Amp. Thanks!

Same here my guy 😅 shits very helpful when broken down in such a basic way.

This is exactly the hands on demonstration/explaining I needed!! You are a wise man
Explanations are mega. Thanks
Very inspirational and informatively focused lve learned a lot in a short space of time...Thankyou
I was planning to sell my amp as I thought it was crap! This video was so good
This was so helpful! I recently bought an electric cello for traveling, and I was struggling to get a sound I was happy with on my practice bass amp (I didn't even know what the drive control was doing). You've made my practice much better!

Love that visual description thank you!
Huh? 😂
Yeah... Nah 🤣
PERFECT. I have a Marshall amp and as soon as I clicked it, it was what I wanted.
Excellent tutorial on how to adjust different frequencies!!! Exactly what I do with any sound frequency/knob/equalization!

One of the best amp controls and sounds including effects tutorials
Finally, Gain explained! Clearly, simply and demonstrated. Thank you so much.
As a beginner - this was really helpful - makes WAY more sense now!!
Excellent video, takes away a lot of confusion with dialing in a good tone, many thanks.
Bravo! I've looked at dozens of videos on this topic and this one is the best. Straight forward, common sense descriptions, with a lot of helpful demos. Thanks so very much for adding some clarity to a very complex topic.

These kinda videos are the reason why I love youtube man!
My first amp is arriving tomorrow. This is exactly the video I needed to see. Well done, sir.
This is helping me figure out the knobs on my pedals too, thanks!!
Realy Great Video! Now I have an idea, how to find the sound I‘m searching for! Not oversimplyfying and not too much technical details, just the „Sweet Spot“ of explanation! Thank you very very much! Robert😉😎👍

You are awesome. You and dagan are the best at PMTV
Useful video, thanks guys 😊😊👍

Great help. Never did know what those EQ settings were meant to do. Thanks for the help and merry Christmas to all at PMT!
So the confusion happens when you try to set a balance between what your amp settings are and what you do with the tone and pickup controls on the guitar itself. How do you set all this up? Amp first then guitar or what?
Fantastic video. Extremely helpful and very well explained. Thank you.
Amaizing! Actually hearing the difference is perfect
At last a clear explanation for a beginners - Thanks
I already know this shit I’m just watching cuz this guys voice relaxes me
Thanks so much. Great for a newbie who is clueless. Next, need a video to explain what the 'line in/ out' , FX loop etc and loads of other ' holes' on my amp. Any suggestions? Thnx in advance.
excellent presentation about the AMP
Great video! I've been playing the guitar for 5 years and i never understood these functions

thanks this was the thing i was searching the whole internet for !
This vid is very helpful this guy deserves more subs
You should watch some of dagans videos as well they are funny as hell and also informative

Thanks, gig help. Where do you recommend setting the tone a volume on the guitar when doing this?
This was very helpful but I don't have gain but I do have overdrive.
Will try another video.
Think my amp is old.
Really helpful post thank you. I have a Boss Katana II 100 and could not get it to sound right. Its awesome this amp was one of the featured amps in your video. thanks again !Boss
Nice video, well explained.
Excellent and well explained video. Thank you.
This was explained and showed so well, even an idiot like me understood!! Thank you!
Thanks for this well made video. Very helpful!
Amazing video for a begginer!! Definetly helped me
3yrs later, still helpful for a beginner like me. thanks!!!
Please explain power on/off and stand by on /off . asking for a friend ..

Exactly what I was looking for. Really well explained, thank you
Dear Sam, thank you
~ I have a Marshall DSL5C and struggling to find the sweet spot. the knobs are so smooth I cannot hear the jump
Well done, Sam. You always do great reviews. One question. What does the V stand for in PMTVUK? I get the rest but not the V. Is it Video?
Helpful video man but even Dimebag would scoop the mids at times it's not always a bad thing good content keep at it brother🤘🤙
This helped me a lot, thank you.
Brilliant explanation, thank you
Good session mate...very informative.
Great video. Thanks PMT
Brilliant video. Thanks
I have a small Marshall MG10 which has a single Tone knob labelled "Contour". Any idea if it's a passive or active tone control? Keep up the amazing work, your way of teaching and explaining is so clear, I love it!
Contour knobs normally affect the midrange. I believe it is a passive tone control that as you turn up the knob, cuts mudrange out of your sound.
A general rule of thumb is that simpler and/or cheaper amps tend to have passive controls.
Simply the best video Ty
Thanks heaps. Just the vid I was looking for👌 subbed👍
That was a good video, thank you. I only wish you would have mentioned plugging in more than one component. Like a mic and a guitar. Can you add the bass? How many things can you plug into one amp? Do you lose something when you do that? Like volume? Thank you!

Very informative! Thank you
super helpful... thank you!
Great vid, found this really helpful
great informative video thanks
Thanks I loved the video..
No one talked about that intro riff...
Thanks for the useful information ,from across the pond. Maybe next you could highlight loopers into a videa(video-idea)🤣.
Peace
Very interesting and helpful, thanks!
Very good lesson! 🙏 thank you ! Subbed
Great video I learned some tid-bits
Great video sir
Great learning experience! Thank you so very much!
