Talking about arenas, while watching the Avs game at Ottawa, the colorado commentators said there was a small flock of birds that kept flying past their commontery booth during the game.
As a Habs fan, couple of things... a) Come on Steve, "you're not supposed to bottom-out for 3 straight years ?". Let me take you back to 2014-17 where the Leafs drafted Top-10, twice in the Top-5, adding Nylander, Marner and Matthews. Two years before that, they had another Top-5 pick and drafted Morgan Reilly. This IS the Maple Leafs today...that's exactly how they got where they are right now. b) Jesse, I'm gonna have to disagree with the notion that a) "Canadiens fans are getting sick of it" and b) "There's nothing there to grasp onto". First, the perception of the medias and what you can read from them is NOT how the wide majority of the fanbase is feeling right now. Medias are upset, because they want viewership and playoffs appearances to sell to their sponsors. The fanbase wants to keep rebuilding the team around youth and picks. For 30-years, this franchise did everything they could just to stay afloat, satisfied with "making the playoffs" because "once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen", relying on their goaltenders, from Roy to Price, to save their asses. Now I'll admit that there's a small portion of the fanbase who's already turning against Hughes and Gorton, because they passed on their precious Michkov. But that portion is rather small, although pretty vocal. That being said, there are still MANY things giving us plenty of hope. Slafkovsky has taken huge steps in his development this year, especially in the past month and a half, when MSL finally started using him with Suzuki and Caufield. The later might not score as much as we anticipated this year, but really progressed in other aspects of the game. Kaiden Guhle is emerging as a true leader in our defensive core, other players like Jayden Struble and, more recently, Joshua Roy showed great things in a more limited role. Down in the AHL, Mailloux is doing great things in his first season, Mesar bounced back in the OHL. Looks like a change of scenary brought the best out of Owen Beck thus far. And the best thing is...we know the best is yet to come. Monahan (and Matheson eventually) will be traded for good pieces for the future, we'll have a good pick this year, two 1sts in the next draft... I think the frustration that's been shared throughout the fanbase is more about injuries (Dach especially) than anything else. I mean Hughes has been the GM for only 2 years, during which he spent most of time getting rid of Bergevin's mistakes. He drafted Slaf, who's on the team...but Reinbacher is still in Europe, and his two 'long-term additions' (Dach and Newhook) are sidelined with injuries. So it's not that there's nothing to grasp onto...moreso that it's been delayed because of injuries and because rebuild takes time. :)
Thank you guys for your respectful and mature coverage of the investigation at the start of this episode. Huge respect for all your coverage over the last year and not letting this get swept under the rug.

Respectfully, y’all don’t know what you’re talking about when it came to Montreal. The frustration mainly comes from the fact we barley get to see any of our damn players play. The year after the finals we set the record for the most injured team in NHL history (man games lost) and you know what they did that next year? They set the record again a second time. In that time we lost our franchise goalie who we loved and our captain. You know that player you could barley pronounce and is a healthy scratch? He was on our first line due to injury at the end of last season (RHP-Suzuki-Ylonen) This year the player we were most excited to see (Dach) gets a season ending injury in the 2nd game of the season, Newhook also gets injured a bunch which caused Josh Anderson to be on Suzuki and Caufields wing. And something you may not know about Josh Anderson is that he absolutely kills any line he is on, so for the first 2 months of the season our best players were struggling and it was hard to watch. So fans feel like they are watching the same thing on repeat, constant injuries and projection problems because the players we want to watch keep getting injured. Stack on top of that a ton of hate from other fanbases and death threats and it kind of sucks being a Habs fan right now.

Hey guys, I listen to every episode on apple podcasts and pretty consistently about 2-3 times per episode there is some kind of editing error where podcast either skips forward or backwards 1-2 minutes and a section either gets clipped out or repeated. Super annoying and just wanted to make you aware of it as I'm sure it's unintentional!
Accountability matters. The delay in this investigation and the resulting accountability for the actions of the perpetrators is far messier than if they had just handled this the way they should have in the beginning. I hope the next investigation is into the abject failure of the London Police.
As nice an investigation would be, what would it actually solve? And im not saying this to argue im honestly asking. They wont arrest themselves, they wont fire themselves. All that will happen is a "yea we fucked up and move on like nothing happened
It needs to happen. London's record on taking on sexual assault cases is utterly dismal. The ultimate goal is culture change, and this one situation won't be enough, but at least it's a start. @@StonedSpagooter
@@cleementine It's a cultural issue in the force that has cut across multiple Police Chiefs. One of the most experienced and senior advocates in the Province for victims of domestic/physical/sexual assault is on the Police Services Board currently, and has been for multiple terms. I think we have to look higher up to find the problem. For example, Police might not put much effort into investigating if the Crown isn't interested in trying the case.
I'm probably your one Utah listener, but I promise you guys a team would be massive here. Growing and wealthy metro area, only one other sports team in the area, massive fan support, and a new world class stadium in the works for the olympics. People were buzzing when we thought the Yotes were coming, a fresh expansion is even better. Utah Yetis???? Utah Sisterwives?????
Also a relatively young population due to salt lake city pitching itself as the silicon valley of the rockies for years. A hockey team in SLC would be a huge market seeing as they only have MLS and NBA as their other teams for a population of over 1 million for the metro area.
@aidandunne5978 I really like Utah Raptors too, it makes sense for exactly the reasons you said. No idea how strict the Toronto hold on that name is, though.
It was jaycob's brother jayson megna that was with the canucks. willie desjardins would put him and michael chaput on the first line and we would freak out.
The arena staff deserve to be paid more before the players get a raise imo. Hockey players have nothing to skate on if the workers of all NHL arena unionized
About that middle-of-episode rant about the penalties, that is one NBA rule I'd like to see the NHL implement. Unsportsmanlike technical fouls in the NBA carry a fine, so if you get "teed up" at the end of a game, there is still reprimand. So I agree with your guys' suggestion. End of game penalties? Deem them unsportsmanlike penalties, automatic fine for being committed at end of game.
As someone who opposes expansion the primary reason is that you will get to where there are two many teams and so the odds that your favorite team can win in your lifetime plummet
What Steve said about Tyler Bozak I think is right on the money. Players are too often signed for the job and the role they are going to take, this is an example of Darnell Nurse. In no way is he worth 9.25m but the GM went up to him and said ‘you’re going to be our number 1 guy who plays the most minutes and the hardest minutes for the next 8 years’. When you think of it like that and the role they take it makes sense.
The Blackhawks front office non traditional baseball guy Adam was thinking of was Jeff Greenberg - former AGM for the Blackhawks now GM for the Detroit Tigers. Kyle from Chicago Davidson hired Greenberg from the Cubs after beating him out for the GM job
I like how they say it’s unreasonable to expect a rookie goalie will come in and immediately be great to save the day, as if that’s not exactly what Woll has done🤣
With the way Gary Bettman has ran the NHL I will be genuinely surprised if they are NOT allowed to play again I expect to see all 5 skating within 2-3 years
I’ve been to a bunch of arenas (24 current ones, 4 old ones), and of the ones currently in use, Ottawa is the only one I would consider a dump. Others might have issues, but the fans in Ottawa deserve better. The parking situation, sound system, and the seats that look dirty… the new owner was ripped off. It’s not in as bad of shape as Joe Louis or the Igloo were in their final days, but it’s far behind the rest of the league.
Just on the WWE Netflix deal, has anyone done some digging on it? Specifically in Canada, I know that the deal is in the States. Or I assumed so. That’s all I heard. How long does the sportsnet deal for WWE last?
Could talk about streaming and platforms all day! Totally agree with the viewpoint of a streaming platform picking up the NHL. And, from folks who have been bit by the rights issue and blackouts, I think would be thrilled to pay for unlimited hockey and get the bonus of other content you want to watch.
The Flames convo was good but you guys overlooked the key point. Murray Edwards wants to make the playoffs. He wants that playoff revenue more than anything. The mandate every year is to make the playoffs and that results in a team who has never drafted higher than fourth in their history. Flames fans are hoping for good efforts, good habits, and losing more games than not so that the FA’s get traded but as long as they “could” realistically make the playoffs Conroy hands may be tied. The one positive is that with Iggy and Connie both being in Mr. Edwards ear maybe he will finally listen and do a quick rebuild? He loves those guys and respects them.
A moose boosh?? Amuse-bouche!! 🤣 A few days after this came out is when I'm listening to this, the five guys reporting to the London police have been announced and it's the five you've mentioned. There needs to be a cleanup somewhere... I'm still convinced the Utah declaration has been made to cover it all up with positive news, or at least if it was discovered that such were the case, I'd be absolutely not surprised that Bettman had something to do with it. But what frustrates me the most is Dillon Dubé, taking a leave of absence for """"mental health"""" related reasons. This is incredibly cowardly and dirty of him to hide behind this pretense...

Technically Seattle’s arena is very old too but it was fully renovated
Accountability matters. The delay in this investigation and the resulting accountability for the actions of the perpetrators is far messier than if they had just handled this the way they should have in the beginning. I hope the next investigation is into the abject failure of the London Police.
I would not hold your breath waiting on any investigation of the London Police.
@@StonedSpagooter Corey Perry is back in the NHL, nothing to see here move on
@@cleementine It's a cultural issue in the force that has cut across multiple Police Chiefs.
Michael McLeod not Ryan
I thought there were 8 of them in the hotel room?
Apparently 3 spectators and 5 perpetrators
@@Bneumanns124 or the 3 is testifying against the 5 more guilty ones
I just got a Carter hart jersey for Christmas and now I’m just hoping for the best out come but very concerned with what info is out there
Oof
Kyle from Chicago is cooking 😤
@@ph1shstyx young because of that and the massive families 🤣
Lmao the Utah sisterwives!!!! That's got my vote 😂😂😂
I vote for the Utah Raptors, because there is literally a dinosaur named Utahraptor. Sisterwives is a VERY close second though
Pretty sure the Houston Aeros were one of the more popular/successful teams in the WHA. They had the Howe’s at one point.
NHL should approve it it would take over the news spotlight
1:03:02 balances out fantasy hockey I like counting pim’s
The arena staff deserve to be paid more before the players get a raise imo.
Hockey players have nothing to skate on if the workers of all NHL arena unionized
About that middle-of-episode rant about the penalties, that is one NBA rule I'd like to see the NHL implement. Unsportsmanlike technical fouls in the NBA carry a fine, so if you get "teed up" at the end of a game, there is still reprimand. So I agree with your guys' suggestion. End of game penalties? Deem them unsportsmanlike penalties, automatic fine for being committed at end of game.
Funny enough Steve, Durham College in Oshawa has that course!!
29:00 saskatoon needs an nhl team before regina Saskatoon is growing and the place to live.
I sat at the second to the top section at the dome and yeah it's insane to go the dome but yeah it is amazing
Amazon Prime also have plenty of Premier League games too.
As someone who opposes expansion the primary reason is that you will get to where there are two many teams and so the odds that your favorite team can win in your lifetime plummet
Being spoilt for podcasts this week!
I honestly forgot what day it was and I think it's because there was a podcast posted yesterday!
Why yall not dancing at thr start of th4 vid?😊
We're at a perfect 32 teams (2^5). If they expand then go to 36
Lets get the league up to 60 teams!! Put a team in every state!
That Fargo/Charlottetown SCF will be lit...
I feel like Timmins got fined more for not answering the bell than the actual cross check lol
Valid points about Calgary.
Kinda problem about them: last year those were valid points about Canucks as well.
With the way Gary Bettman has ran the NHL I will be genuinely surprised if they are NOT allowed to play again
I expect to see all 5 skating within 2-3 years
I’ve been to a bunch of arenas (24 current ones, 4 old ones), and of the ones currently in use, Ottawa is the only one I would consider a dump. Others might have issues, but the fans in Ottawa deserve better. The parking situation, sound system, and the seats that look dirty… the new owner was ripped off. It’s not in as bad of shape as Joe Louis or the Igloo were in their final days, but it’s far behind the rest of the league.
The Saddledome is garbage
Just on the WWE Netflix deal, has anyone done some digging on it? Specifically in Canada, I know that the deal is in the States. Or I assumed so. That’s all I heard. How long does the sportsnet deal for WWE last?
The rights expire in January next year
@@dolandarkxgrandayy6953 cool hopefully they don’t renew on sportsnet. Not that I didn’t like it on sportsnet, but wwe on Netflix makes more sense
Calgary Flames 🤝 Ottawa Senators
OT goals that broke the franchise
Best title since Red Dead Nylandemption
It was by design, coach wanted to rest the lotto line, and to try to built confidence in the second line
Could talk about streaming and platforms all day! Totally agree with the viewpoint of a streaming platform picking up the NHL. And, from folks who have been bit by the rights issue and blackouts, I think would be thrilled to pay for unlimited hockey and get the bonus of other content you want to watch.
Deadline is Friday at 6
Saskatoon would be a great addition, look at the roughriders
I hope justice is served to those involved
and what if justice concludes that she lied. need i remind you of Amber Heard or the duke lacrosse team ?
@@jamminninja8924 We'll have to wait and see.
A few days after this came out is when I'm listening to this, the five guys reporting to the London police have been announced and it's the five you've mentioned.

Why do NHL arenas rarely have a capacity above 20,000 seats?
It's a worldwide thing, so I guess there is some natural restriction. Like, only 20k seats can be reasonably fitted into space from where you can actually see the puck.
@@iliaponomarev1624Yup anything larger than 25-30k and it’s either terrible viewing or incredibly steep and packed. Conditioning the space efficiently is also a factor.
The NHL should void the contract agreement that automatically returns non NHL ready draft picks to their respective junior teams.
My cousin is an audio/visual rigger, and he's set up many shows and a million steps on those stairs. I've seen those photos
