Excellent video, really appreciated you showing the weathering and explaining the technique behind it. Liked the Wilder Dark Street Effect, I can find plenty of uses for that! However you use them, the beauty of pastels is their versatility - everyone should constantly be experimenting, it will add variety to your models.
Thank you for showing your talents for the rest of us to learn. I’m currently experimenting with the use of different effects. I mix a lot of my own. Again thank you. Everything you show has been extremely helpful.
Great video thanks. Watched this after 5 techniques explained. This dust effects method looks perfect to replicate the repeated spillage of cement out of the hatches on top of a Cemflo wagon (model railways). Cheers, David
"Exploring " the world of pigments. Never used them before. Always used Sheppard paines,& francois verlindens methods of weathering. So many choices,& manufacturers of pigment type products. Thanks.
Yeah, there are many options, but the differences between brands are not very big. I'd just recommend you avoid Vallejo pigments as they don't have good colours and don't seem to stick as well.
Panzermeister36 thank you for your reply. Yes i noticed vallejo does not have a large selection of colors, etc. News to me on not sticking? I guess there are enamel, & acrylic pigments? Some require a fixing solution? Much to check on, thanks.
Well I mean that pigments will stick to a matte finished surface fairly well due to friction and static effects, and then you can apply fixer afterward to bind them on better. I find that Vallejo pigments are hard to get to stick in the first place, before you would apply fixer to glue them down.
Found a paint perfect for rubber tank tyres.Abaddon black Citadel Air,brush painted on in a weak mix and built up in layers(like your running out of pain),it looks like rubber when dried and you can trim it with cocktail stick.
Breathing new life into those old Tamiya Panzer IV's. Easy and simple to follow, great tutorial! Somebody should open up a hobbying school in your name lol! Kutgw :) Cheers
Panzermeister36 Sorry for the late reply Evan, just finished moving and I'm working with limited data until the internet gets set up. Such a small world, I'm going up there with my dad. To cool! I look forward to meeting in person. See ya on the 25th! Are you entering anything?
Awesome! I don't think I'll be entering anything since I'll have to leave at around 4 on Sunday and I believe that's during the judging period. I'll have to check...
What weathering would you use on figures. And is there a colour chart for faces, uniforms and vehicles. Thanks. Just starting back up and absorbing as much info as possible
How do you create thick mud effects where the tank tracks, bogey wheels, etc. are completely covered in mud and not just a layering of mud like you did in this video?
Hi Panzer 36 ! Excellent work as always ! ? I have heard somewhere that enamel thinner as used on tracks with some Nitroline products will eat up the Tracks - any opinion ! Edward
Very strong enamel thinner can weaken the thin glued connections between track links. However, I have not had that occur with NitroLine. I only had it occur once with an AK Rust Wash.
@@Panzermeister36 well you probably know where that comment came from , like his work too ! Keep up the good work Panzer 36 ! Canada right ! In Ireland we have v limited access to modelling products ! Great work ! Best Ed!
I'm not sure about Europe. I live in Canada. The current Pandemic seems to make Wilder stuff harder to find. Have you checked his website? I think "www.wilder.su" has a list of distributors somewhere.
Do you mean the Ammo weathering products or Ammo paints for airbrushing? X-20A shouldn't work for either, so use water for the Ammo paints or lighter fluid for the Ammo weathering effects.
ok thanks, do you know if there is any correlation between "MIG Productions" and "Ammo by Mig Jimenez" or is "MIG Productions" is just all rebranded "Abteilung 502"?
Ohoho now that's a good one. So there's Mig AMMO, MiG Productions, AK Interactive, 502 abteilung, and Vallejo. Long story behind all that, but basically now I believe Vallejo owns MiG Productions and 502 and kinda merged them together recently. Mig AMMO is a different company, but the guy who owns it also used to work for AK Interactive and for MiG Productions at various times. It's a messy story...
Panzermeister36 lol, just now getting in to weathering and watching all these videos with different products made for a very confusing search between brands lol. Ammo and ak seem to be very similar companies so I had no idea who was the better brand for pigments, washes, etc but I'm assuming its more of a personal choice. Thanks for the info!
Yeah, most enamels and pigments are quite similar between brands, I'd go with whatever is easiest to get. Just I'd say Vallejo pigments aren't that great, but AK or Wilder etc. are far better options
Just checked the Wilder site and it looks like they are 50% or more sold out. Anyone know if this is a recent issue or is it always like this? Don't want to get started using their products if they aren't available most of the time.
Covid has apparently made it harder to ship out the products. If you can't go with Wilder, I'd recommend going to AK Interactive for your weathering needs. And no, neither sponsors me :)
@@Panzermeister36 From what I gather demand is also way up for the modeling industry as a whole and these products are probably in great demand, far greater demand than they might have anticipated. Thanks for the advice.
Lol, if only I actually made money doing stuff like this. I "promote" products that I've used and that I find are good. I use them and show them because I think they're worth buying. If something I use is bad, then I won't use it since I don't think people should spend their money on it. For example, Vallejo pigments are garbage, so I don't ever use them. The only pigments I use are Mig and Wilder, since they're the best.

Thanks, I'm interested. Regular subscriber here.
I like how you discuss color matching pigments and enamels in your videos. This has been enormously helpful.
These how to vids are getting better and better. Really well present Evan. Thanks
Thank you for the awesome comments as always, Mark! Hope you've been well.
Bro, Your tutorials are the best, you are a Master at this stuff ! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your knowledge with us !

Thank you Jerry! I really like the Dark Street one too, nice brownish slightly green colour to it...awesome for more fresh mud effects.

Yes! Sounds good
Great video. Seems like a great effect that isn't too difficult. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Killing it bro like always... Love the simple videos... My local shop just started carrying wilder pigs and washes... They just need oils now!
That's awesome! And yes, those oils are the best oil paints in my opinion! As always, thanks for being a supporter :)
Just found this video. Love your techniques
Another great video matey, really enjoyed it again !
Thanks Steve!
Fabulous video. Just came at the right time for me.....just recieved those Wilder products yesterday. Now I know how to use them! Thanx! 😁
+Stevie Gibson awesome! I hope you enjoy them :)
Thanks this is helpful..currently working on a Paper panzer (panzer IV chassis).
Awesome! What are you working on on that chassis?
Panzermeister36 I got it built but was struggling a bit with color and weathering options. It's my first Panzer build.
Awesome video Technique 👍
Your just amazing

Great video but don't forget the springs! A little wash of rust on the leaves and then the pigments but not to heavy as they are always moving.
I know! Just didn't do the full thing as this was more of a demonstration :)
Panzermeister36 Gotcha! None the less a great video!
Excellent tutorial!Thank you for sharing!

Nice little video..... Keep up the good work!
Thanks for this. I've learnt to paint->glossy clear coat->weathering->matt clear coat. So it's better to do mud/dust before the glossy coat?
What weathering would you use on figures. And is there a colour chart for faces, uniforms and vehicles. Thanks. Just starting back up and absorbing as much info as possible
Thanks agien! im going to need som of that stuff. But it hard to get anything to sweden.
may i ask, can i do the same technique, but instead of using modeller pigment product , i use a ground up pastel instead ?
Most likely that should work out fine. You might want to do a test first just to make sure.
thank you, that help me a lot, since a small pastel is far cheaper than pigment from Mig or Humbrol here
Very useful tutorial!
Thank you!
Great video this helps a lot.
Thank you :) I'm glad it's helpful!
Really nice tutorial
Thank you!
How do you create thick mud effects where the tank tracks, bogey wheels, etc. are completely covered in mud and not just a layering of mud like you did in this video?
Try AK Terrain Paste or Mig AMMO Splashes enamel effects.
When would you use a varnish or lacquer
Can I make this enamel effect thinning down some plain enamel paint? Does it have anything special?

Question ,I would like to ask is what you refer to as enamel a wash or something else? In the Wilder line up.
+Robert Graham any of Wilder's "Nitro Line" products are enamels. I like the dark rainmarks wash.
Great video Evan. Too bad we can't get Wilder products in the U.S., at least in my neck of the woods
They are produced in Russia which is a little hard to buy from recently...
@@Panzermeister36 I think all their energies are elsewhere

Can i use tamiya x20a thinner to thinn down MIG Ammo paints? Happy modelling!!!!
Do you mean the Ammo weathering products or Ammo paints for airbrushing? X-20A shouldn't work for either, so use water for the Ammo paints or lighter fluid for the Ammo weathering effects.
I may have missed it - but how did you seal this enamel/pigment layer? A pigment bonder, white spirit or a varnish coat?
Nope. Varnishes tend to ruin pigments. The enamel mud effect serves to bind on the pigments.
@@Panzermeister36 but how does the pigment stick to the surface where you did not use enamel?
I don't know, but it does stick on to the matte surface of the paint :) you can always try enamel thinner as a fixer.
"mig productions dried mud is a good pigment for blending in dunkelgelb" can you even get that anymore? Or is there an alternative?
I think they re-released it now under the 502 abt brand?

Yes that should be fine!

You don't need any water at all
