when i do that to tanks, it looks like it was swimming in the mud for the past 10 years and an uncleaneable very thick earth layer has accumulated on the surface...doesn't look real :D
I've done the same thing recently. Earthy effects without pigments since those are for scrubs (and they don't stick on as nicely). Oils and enamels and the Wilder Textured Earth are excellent for these effects and then you don't have to worry about those damn varnishes afterwards....
Cool video Martin. This Tamiya dust mixture works great, I tried to do something similar with Ammo Washable dust colour, and it works not bad but the pain(t) in the ass is that when you need to use enamel thinner over it. It wash out the ammo paint and blend the effect :(
This Tank more and more becomes a true masterpiece. (not that I expected any less) It's really amazing how those huge boring surfaces without any details came to life. Really, one can get lost in studying the details of one such surface now!
Superb !!! No cougars this weekend so...working in my Tamiya Panther G with Eduard metal zimeritt... made 15 years ago. I take some time for my models.
Another Friday evening vid from Night Shift is a fantastic start to the weekend... very inspirational and fantastic work - this Chi-Ri is looking like it's *almost* finished. Plus I have another vid to watch on how to make the Tamiya Rain Streaks paint. Oh, and there's going to be a Panther!?! You've touched me with this little nugget of information, and I've touched myself.
Even though you got all those freebies from AK/MIG, you still used your 'home-brew' dust mixture. Martin, you are one of the few You-Tubers that haven't sold yourself out. Respect to you my man.
Man i love these videos! I just started tamiya putty texturing on my 40k imperial knight and it looks amazing. Hopefully i won't obscure that sweet texture once i get paint on it. Keep it up
@@NightShiftScaleModels i read that in your voice 😉 i have taken to using acrylic inks so it should not be to much of a problem but applied with a brush so inherently thicker.
Each video blows me away more than the previous ones. If/when I ever get the time and money to get back into the hobby your techniques and knowledge will definitely benefit me greatly. Thank you.
Martin, absolutely spot on videos and great banter! I'm amazed at the level of detail you put in the videos and you have become to "go to" guy for anything modelling. What had me confused when I've watched other channels has been made crystal clear in your videos. Cheers and beers for uncluttering a cluttered mind!
Very enjoyable episode Martin, I'll have to try your acrylic rain marks technique it really is effective. My next video on the T-34/122 will be on filters and fading so I'll try some of those acrylic techniques then. Awesome as usual bro!
Mate, it would be greatly appreciated if you listed all the paints and tools you use in the video descriptions. Makes it easier for people who want to try what you've taught.
I find myself loving your videos more and more. This tank is a labor of love. Can't wait to see the treads! Have you thought about doing a diorama with it? Would be a shame not to make one for such a quality beast!
Wow.! I like it . I enjoy your style of talking or whatever you call it. I notice that steel tracks ( that are in use) ..like KVs are more silver than most folks paint. Too rusty ... more like a tank that just sat out in the weather for a few months. . Can you do steel tracks some day ?
Awesome video, agan! Really enjoy your stuff! Keep up the good work, you're the best modeller on YT ( at least that's what I think ) Got my Panzerkampfwagen VI "Tiger" I Ausführung H1 sitting in his box, not being finished yet...guess I will have some work to do.
Love your vids and builds night shift. I know I'm about a year late here, but one thing you might try on the letters in the future is scrape them with an xacto on the edges to get some subtle wear and tear. That or some light sanding to mimic the elements wearing the paint down.
Excellent work, Martin! I've picked up a couple tricks I might have to use on my next project. I'm just finishing the Takom M9 ACE and I think I got waaaay too heavy handed with the mud. It was my first time using pigments though...
@@NightShiftScaleModels Yeah, I'm kinda getting that impression; but I wanted to try something new. Did hairspraying chipping on the last model so I wanted to give pigments a try on this one. :) What's the next model going to be? I'm working on the Trumpeter SA-4 Ganef right now.
So only two videos are left... Cant wait to see that tank completely done. By the way, do you take part in model exhibitions or other events like that?
I'm curious if you'd be interested in doing the Zvezda uralmash T34/76 model in 1/35 scale. It's very well detailed and i am interested as to how you would make it really stand out.
@@NightShiftScaleModels small light tank models with interiors looks so cool tho, like the miniarts t-60. but if not how about a spaa next time, it would be nice to get some knowlage about those :)
Great vid. Would you be able to do a segment on painting a textured surface. As l need to paint 1 on my Abrams an have no idea how to. Thank you would be of great help. Scott
Oh sweet, I really could use that rusty track tutorial right about now. I have built friul tracks for my Karl Gerät, but I can't seem to get the weathering right.
Today i tried the cast texture effect for the first time. You owe me a new panther if it sucks lmao. Jokes aside, thanks for the videos and not using a milion different products.
Update: it actually worked pretty well, it seems i should have gone much heavier but i feel like i've learnt how to do it well. Thank you my slavic friend.
Ok, I’m not trying to be mean, but can you mix the videos up a bit? I see this chi ri and instantly pass on it, I love your videos, but I think this tank needs retirement. Thank you for cool videos!

LIFE HACK: use real earth from your backyard and just throw it at your model.
Gotta get that accuracy
I was thinking about it too
I set all my models on fire for authentic effects.
