Good Lord, DJI really need to hire you to explain the features of their products. I have been searching all over to get a simple explanation of this feature and you are the ONLY person that did that. Actually you do that with most of your vids. Thanks.
As a vlogging camera this video shows me how much I would choose the Action 4 over the Pocket 3. Just you walking through the streets of that quaint town found me intrigued about everything around you. Overall it was much more entertaining than just focusing on someone's face and let's be honest, the Pocket 1, 2, and 3 still doesn't always get the auto-focus correct, which means you stand to lose the shot entirely. They just look awful and happen too often on the Pocket. I was really hoping DJI was going to offer an "infinity mode" with the Pocket 3 so that everything remained in focus all the time, but instead they missed a great opportunity to do so. Oh well, I guess we'll see what the Pocket 4 brings.
Even if you are shy on camera you have a great personality! Best thing to do is to just keep recording in public and over time you will forget that you had that fear in the first place. Looking forward to move from using a big dslr camera to this camera for vlogging as the footage is so smooth!
I just got my action 4 a day ago (after returning the action 3)...and I've been searching along the dirty ole streets of RUclips to watch every video I can about it. I usually don't comment on how great (or not so great) someone's videos are but the quality and professionalism of your videos stand out to me. You remind me of the photography teacher I had in college.

Your DJI Osmo Action 4 footage looks best on entire RUclips! There are no those jittery pixel-like moving things, whatever they're called, that are typical for phones and action cameras. Thank you for sharing your camera settings and the LUT for free!

Thanks! Nice update! Another thing is you should set the camera sounds to mute when using pre-record mode. Otherwise, when you press record, you'll have a beep in your footage. DJI should make this automatic in a future update.
As a fishing content creator, i sold my osmo 3 and get osmo 4 the most important feature for fishing people is the pre record feature. hand down~ Thanks for the explanation ~
The footage from that little camera is brilliant such rich colours that look so natural. DJI has made an awesome action camera, and as soon as I have the money to buy one I will be.
Pre-Recording is such a huge feature that I'm astounded we are getting it on an action camera before really most of the major mirrorless flagships. That's such a massive deal when shooting slow motion or b-roll. Save so many hours of editing time later on.
Yesss, finally! I got rid of my older gopros because of their freezes and bugs and I skipped the Osmo Action 3 for two reasons: not wanting to play focus lottery and the lack of highlights/prerecord. As someone who has the camera on a bike helmet mostly for safety reasons (thus recording lots of useless footage) it saves a lot of time to be able to just press a button and have that moment marked for later review.
I was down there with my (ex) wife now and my 1 1/2 year old son and we went down there because we liked going to places with different cultures. I liked Scotts Head for snorkeling. This is when the reef was still healthy. We went to a waterfall...not sure of its name and we hiked into Boeri lake. We rented a car and drove to many different areas. We went over the top of the Island and I needed a break from driving on the wrong side of the road..:P. where we stopped there was this small building in a field with one window and a door. We saw someone peeking out of the window so we went up to the building.. It was a preschool with around 15 small children and there caregiver.. They were facinated with my 1 1/2 year old son.. I guess not to many of them had seen a little white kid.. We thought that was so funny.. Love your videos by the way! @@TamaraGabrielUK

It’s so refreshing to hear somebody talk honestly about their self consciousness when filming. I feel it really acutely, not least because I’m usually accompanied by a rather large Guide Dog and nobody really gets how you can be visually impaired and still want to film or at least that’s what I think they are thinking… i’ve been toying for awhile with getting the Pocket two, or one of the Action cameras (DJI or GoPro), but, again being visually impaired, I am concerned about how much I will be able to do without being able to read text on the main display. I would be really interested to know how much can be done via the app (which hopefully I will be able to access using the screen reader on my phone), in terms of changing settings and the like.
Great video. I didn't know about the highlights while recording. I'm using it for sure. I get a little self conscious on my vlogs. I do it while traveling with my family. My teenage daughters get my embarrassed by it then i do.

Oh my gosh! I love that feature of being able to switch between screens rather than having both screens on or only having the back screen! I don’t like people seeing my framing before me! Lol
I bought one a and have just been filling the memory card but hadn't looked at the footage yet, until I saw this vid and I thought oh that's enhanced and I looked at my own and was pleasantly f.mind blown.
I've been watching a ton of video for the Osmo Action 4, Insta 360 Ace Pro, and the Pocket 3 and trying to decide which to get. The Ace Pro does not look good for vlogging (close focus in out of focus) and the Pocket 3 seems to have screen issues (rotation issues). Your video showed me that THE Action 4 looks very, very good for vlogging with the close up details looking great. Thanks for such a good video!

Second, could you share how you choose which camera(s) to take with you, how much gear to include, and how you carry your gear? I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel ☺️ As to what gear I take with me, it depends what/where/how I’ll be filming. But I’m very much of the mind that I can’t be bothered to faff around these days as I don’t have a lot of time, so I always aim to take as little as possible. The Osmo Action 4 goes everywhere with me, and until I got the Osmo Pocket 3 it was my main vlogging camera, but now they’re both in my bag all the time along with my mini 3 pro. If I need quick POV shots I’ll take the Insta360 GO 3 with me too. And if I need another focal length I whip out my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Everything fits in my Brevite Jumper backpack. Rarely do I take my A7s III out with me when vlogging, that mainly stays at home or goes with me for client shoots.
Oh yes. Feel very self convicts. I broke my back 2019 and ended up in a wheelchair. So set up youtube channel. Getting better but still very not natural for me. Loving your style of videos and only just found. I have the pocket 2 so will be getting the LUTs
They finally released the pre-recording! hahaha I unfortunately bought the GoPro 11 at the end of last year, it crashes, and sometimes Hindsight doesn't work, it's very frustrating
Selling my pocket 2 to get this. Cuz I just don't want to think about framing, focusing, panning etc Cuz I tend to lose the shot and moment while fidgeting with the pocket 2. While the action 4 strikes the balance between just shoot while also having super decent quality 👍
Thanks for that test! It's relaxing and effective. Two questions; 1. What's the impact on battery life of pre-recording? Since now it's technically... always recording in the buffer. 2. Does the highlight marker translate to adobe premiere timeline? Does it embbed those marker into the video file or metadata? Or only dji app can see those markers?

I have the focus issues with my 32 day old Osmo Action 4. Sold my Gopro hero 8 to buy this. Had to complete a Repair Request Form on the DJI website and now have to post the camera to Holland from the UK, where I live. If they don't fix it I'll immediately go to my credit card company, using Section 75, which is a protection policy we have here in the UK when a customer has purchased an item which is not fit for purpose. Any action camera is only as good as the quality of service you receive when the camera goes wrong
I think the least-used feature of any camera setup is the remote. I may be because it is separated from the camera all the time and has to be maintained separately, as well sometimes the connection or performance isn't there... not sure... You are a professional so I'm sure you've seen photographers who only use a remote to avoid inadvertent camera jostling. Seems like using a remote would be ideal for vlogging.
Remote control is underused - helps on my motorcycle to avoid generating unneeded video to edit and when combined with Pre-Record set for 60 seconds and the camera connected to external power.
Love how ppl like to mingle into video naturally thats how vlogs should be like cheers on a great video once again ;D ur pushing me off the ledge instead of pocket 2 towards the Action 4....derrrp and the field of view doesnt look too wide which is also great to see *no fishhy eye I found out recently that Tokyo now has a Costa Coffee finally arriving here need to try it out sometime.
Interesting new features. The way you use your DJI Osmo Action 4 is close to the way I use my DJI Pocket 2. And now, I'm asking myself a question: should I wait for the Pocket 3 to be out or purchase an Action 4?
I'm in the same situation! If the pocket 3 is waterproof it's an instant purchase, I definitely prefer the form factor by a mile. But where I live it rains a lot of the year so if its not then its unfortunately a dealbreaker.

At 56, I still get nervous at the idea of filming myself in public. It's hard to shake the feeling that eyes are on me. Especially here in Atlanta with tons of people everywhere.

Thanks for this! I updated the firmware on mine in the middle of a three-week trip to the UK and didn't read up on what it brings beyond bug fixes. I shot a whole lot of footage and could have benefitted from that pre-record feature a few times. I missed a particularly great shot in Regent's Park involving a bunch of waterfowl. On another note, I'm kicking myself for not trying the maple hazel latte.

Yeah, 100%. Little by little I’ve been trying to go to places with more people rather than just quiet parks and lakes.
Having the front screen turned off during POV is great, people and especially children aren't freaking out seeing themselves. Thanks for the content!

2. Does the highlight marker translate to adobe premiere timeline? Does it embbed those marker into the video file or metadata? Or only dji app can see those markers?

I have the focus issues with my 32 day old Osmo Action 4. Sold my Gopro hero 8 to buy this. Had to complete a Repair Request Form on the DJI website and now have to post the camera to Holland from the UK, where I live. If they don't fix it I'll immediately go to my credit card company, using Section 75, which is a protection policy we have here in the UK when a customer has purchased an item which is not fit for purpose. Any action camera is only as good as the quality of service you receive when the camera goes wrong

I think the least-used feature of any camera setup is the remote. I may be because it is separated from the camera all the time and has to be maintained separately, as well sometimes the connection or performance isn't there... not sure... You are a professional so I'm sure you've seen photographers who only use a remote to avoid inadvertent camera jostling. Seems like using a remote would be ideal for vlogging.
Remote control is underused - helps on my motorcycle to avoid generating unneeded video to edit and when combined with Pre-Record set for 60 seconds and the camera connected to external power.
This review is not 100% educated the rear screen being off saves lots of battery power. I'm actually impressed this was not announced or proposed.

The way you use your DJI Osmo Action 4 is close to the way I use my DJI Pocket 2. And now, I'm asking myself a question: should I wait for the Pocket 3 to be out or purchase an Action 4?
I'm in the same situation! If the pocket 3 is waterproof it's an instant purchase, I definitely prefer the form factor by a mile. But where I live it rains a lot of the year so if its not then its unfortunately a dealbreaker.

Thanks for this! I updated the firmware on mine in the middle of a three-week trip to the UK and didn't read up on what it brings beyond bug fixes. I shot a whole lot of footage and could have benefitted from that pre-record feature a few times. I missed a particularly great shot in Regent's Park involving a bunch of waterfowl. On another note, I'm kicking myself for not trying the maple hazel latte.
