Hello everyone and thanks for all your help. We figured out the problem was the coils would ice over when running the fan on low for extended periods of time. So we only ran it on high and never had another problem.
His and Hers VLOGS auto high just high? having the same problem it’s looks like it’s raining in our RV thanks in advance
So did the problem ever happen again?
Only running the the AC on high resolved the problem.
Mine did the dame thing and I hope it was the same problem as yours
Coils icing over is an air movement issue. You simply are not getting enough air to move over the coils to evaporate the air quick enough. Given a high cool setting fixed the issue...it almost means it is an air movement
*Great and Easy to instal **Fastly.Cool** Low noisy*
NEVER use 5200 for something you may need to one day remove. 5200 is PERMANENT! Use U/V shielded 4200 which can be broken off, but if you use 5200 you will never be able to remove it or if you do, you may take half the roof with you.
Even better than 4200 might have been Butyl rubber (butyl tape) which never dries, it continues to flow (which may not sound ideal, but it can flow into leaking gaps and if you didn't get it the first time, you can always add more and butyl will still stick to butyl.
...Did you ever get that fixed??Sealing the roof, while probably a good idea likely isn't going to solve your problem.First, check out this video, which explains how an RV A/C unit works, and why it is important to have CLEAN evaporator and condenser coils:m.ruclips.net/video/k-ZFFRqeY2oO/видео.htmlk, but let's suppose you already cleaned the coils (and all your drip pans, etc), and the inside of your rig is *still* dripping like crazy-- and you know it isn't a roof leak....You are going to kick yourself when you find out how simple the solution is.See there on the A/C unit- there are TWO knobs? One of them has the fan and A/C settings, and the other is the one is the thermostat, which controls the frequency with which the compressor cycles on and off.If you have the thermostat turned all the way to OFF, (even though you have the A/C set to ON), basically all you are doing is just running the fan.Likewise, if you have the thermostat set all the way to ON, you will be running the compressor nearly 100% of the time. ...Doing this will make the evaporator coil SUPER cold, and condensation will begin to form in the evaporator coil, it will collect in the evaporator coil's drip pan, and soon you will start to see it rain inside your RV.So- what's the solution??TURN THE A/C ON, BUT THE THERMOSTAT ALL THE WAY OFF....So, basically now you are just running the fan, ok?Let all the water dry out.Now-- very slowly move the thermostat dial until you can hear a little 'click'.That means the compressor is now cycling on and off as the A/C unit cools and conditions the air.I know it seems somewhat counterintuitive, because turning the thermostat ALL the way up should get you maximum cooling on this hot day, right??Sure, but what it's also doing while at the max setting is making the evaporator coil EXTRA cold, which creates CONDENSED WATER.And so, drip, drip, drop...
Bring up a cup of ice cubes in the future and use them to smooth the 5200 or whatever else you're using like silicone, keeps your fingers clean as well as making a nice smooth seal.
I never completely understood your leaking problem, but there are many possibilities, you did mention freezing up? That is more likely a low charge and the change to the genset is just ironic timing. Currently I'm having a leaking issue as well I've fixed numerous issues and am now down to a possible sweating issue on the outer cover due to some lost insulation on the inside. I want to change it to something else (like thin foam sheets for example)because the fiber like material gets super dusty no matter what with no real effective way to clean it without damaging the material and then it gets really musty and stale smelling if not cleaned.
Your leak is more likely a clogged drain on the sweat tray underneath the condenser they are very tiny holes and get easily clogged with debris or algae causing overflow into the cab.
Living in Florida our AC vents in our Sticks and bricks dripped in our living room that had a vaulted ceiling. Had diagnostics run and they couldn't figure the problem out. Suggested it was from HUMIDITY. Now we are in our 5th wheel full time, still in Florida in the summer and this morning heard a drip drip drip. Got up to investigate and found the ac vent dripping. I cleaned that mess up then checked the intake vents and discovered they were dirty so I cleaned those washable filters.
I do believe dripping is from the excess humidity.
I would be embarrassed to tell someone I live in California California sucks
Lower the front of the camper so the condensation runs off. Otherwise the condensation collects around the ac and starts leaking. You don't have to have much of a degree of tilt just enough for the water to run off. You can have it run off the front or back either way doesn't matter and you won't even notice that your leaning up or downhill. Quick and easy fix. Just lower or raise it from the hitch and put your stabilizers down and your good to go. The stabilizers are not for leveling your camper anyways, and for some reason lots of people make that mistake. I've seen people doing that and have their wheels on the camper completely off the ground cause they were using the stabilizers to make the camper level. It does not have to be perfectly level, you want some grade to it whether it's uphill or downhill so your condensation runs off properly. Like i said it does not have to be to an extreme degree at all and you won't even notice inside. Anyways that's my two sense on the matter. Hope it helps someone
I learn not only from your video but also from your subscribers comments.
There is a drain pan under the inside coils and they have drain holes on each side they can get plugged up if you don't keep the filter clean. you have to take that a part and clean the DRIP pan out with the holes that let it drain on top of your RV, I have had to clean many of them out (btw i manage a RV park)
OK, u can see the outside coils, the inside are enclosed in a box... Best of luck.
Thanks! I really admire someone who is willing to tackle a job and also takes critiques!
Do you do that for your renters cuz if U do your the best RV park owner in the world
Yep that is true. Same with your condensate in your home. If the line running from the pan gets clogged it will overflow out of the pan and leak everywhere. Easy fix though
I'm having this problem will have to try this out
Hey bruuh how did it work ??
Running the unit on high solved the problem.
I don't know why i just watched this.
Pandemic 2020
Part of the job of an air conditioner is to remove humidity. That's why there's a drip tray under the evaporator coil.
The real issue though would be insufficient air flow caused by blockage or a weak fan motor---or low refrigerant. While it would be very difficult to measure the rpm of the fan, checking amp draw is relatively easy with the proper meter and some know how. The fan motor should state the normal amp draw. If it's operating higher than this the motor is going bad and rpm's are dropping. As far as refrigerant---temperatures and pressures are related. If your pressure is too low the temperature will be too. In that scenario, the condensation that normally begins forming on the evaporator coil begins to freeze as the temperature of the coil drops below 32f. Add freon and the temperature rises and the ac removes the humidity as it should.
OK Folks , well this video is good , but let give you another Tip, if its clogging up at the drain and you was just in the AC to clean up the coils and do not want to go back in it, just use an Air Hose with a nipple end and just put it under drain hole and Blow , this will most likely clear the drain hole , also if that doesn't work get you an L shaped piece of metal and stick in drain hole !
If the AC of my RV doesn’t work can i remove it and seal the roof? If so, who should I go to?
Sure it can be removed, cut a piece of wood to fill the hole, brace it, cap off the ducting if there is ducting, get a sheet of vinyl to cover and seal.
@@outliersoverland thank you! I think there might be mold because of the leak. I’m not sure who to contact or go about this. I don’t know if to remove the ac and then get the mold fixed then the leaks or what
Did you ever figure out or resolve your leak? Thanks ...!
Ben the water will not get to the inside for the outside there is a Metal shield around the open. Your water is coming from the A/C coils inside hey are freezing up and then they will thew out could be low Freon . Ours did it when we run ours on low had to keep it on high where it would not freeze up. Also you can but a spray can of coil cleaner that will work sometimes . Hope that works for you have a good day
This may seem pretty basic but ours froze up (then melted/leaked) because the filter inside our TT needing a good cleaning.
I'm a recently trained AC guy, but have never even looked at what's on an RV...yet. The only place that I know of where water can be coming from on your AC (unless it's raining) is the evaporator, which is what the inside air runs through to cool the interior. If that's not icing up, it sounds like something could be plugging the condensate drain.
In our house, a bunch of June bugs came down the chimney one summer, died, and eventually plugged the condensate drain. The water ran over the walls of the pan when humidity was high and flooded that area of our basement.
I don't know what your rooftop unit's pan arrangement is, but I'd be looking at that. Perhaps a clogged drain and condensate is running over the top of the pan and making its way inside somehow. If the air from inside the RV has to go up into the rooftop unit and then back again, that might provide a route for condensate when the pan's drain is plugged...?
Reviewed your video and did a little searching online. At the 1:17 mark, you're looking at the camera with the shroud off the AC. The condenser coil is on the end away from the street (exposed to the outside air) and I think the evaporator coil is under the larger housing on the end towards the street. That's the one that can ice and has a drain pan under it.
The pictures that I've looked at all showed the evaporator inside that box and standing up in/over a plastic drain pan that is between the air inlet (from inside the RV) and the air outlet (going to the RV). You want to make sure that it's not icing and that the drain isn't plugged. It looks like they drain out the side and down onto the roof?
If the 5200 didn't fix it, you may be able to remove the shroud and open the box with the evaporator coil to look at it and its drain from the top. Can't tell in the video if its cover is held on with screws or rivets.
This page: bryantrv.com/roofac2.html has a basic block diagram and a bit of troubleshooting info.
I hope it's an easy fix! I spoke with a friend who told me his parents' RV AC was once blocked/icing because of pet hair stuck on the air input side of the filter and evaporator. It seems the filter had come loose at some point after becoming clogged itself and they didn't know how far the problem had gone.
Take off the condenser cover to expose the drain pan. It's under the metal shield.
So are ac is leaking though to one of the skylights in rv do you think it might be the same thing?
Sounds like its freezing up, thats why it keeps dripping after running it...could be just low on freon.
Agreed it's either low on freon or the coil needs to be cleaned causing it to freeze up.
Yes that's right, freon doesn't evaporate so it cold have a leak, or the leaking water is caused by something else. Good luck Ben, you'll figure it out👍🏻
If it's low on freon it the compressor will short cycle you will hear it kick on and off frequently, as stated the best way to find the issue would be to run the until again with the cover off and check it to see if ice is forming on it or what's going on, it is possible the generator you ran wasn't sufficient power but that should of just resulted in the unit not cooling as it should as most have low voltage protection that would of unloaded the compressor.

Had the same issue-one of the people in this comment section suggested adjusting the tilt and it worked for me! Before adjusting tilt, I cleaned the coils well, and flooded it up there so I could be sure it wasn’t from a roof leak. Love those simple fixes! Thank you to whoever mentioned it!!
in the forward section of the A/C under the radiator is a drip pan. There should be drain holes left and right which you should be able to feel without removing anything. I ran small Allen wrench in mine to insure it was free and then poured water into it to physically check it. If you RV is not level that will cause the drain pan not to drain properly Lastly you may have to tighten the gasket between A/C and RV. For that I would carry it in. PS if you remove the forward parts be careful there are large capacitors that could discharge into you if you short them causing harm to you and the AC and possible death. Remember which screws go where as some may have the sharp tip removed as to not damage the wires and A/C Lines. Have a blessed day Randy9
ditto with everyone below, check the drain under the evaporator, and check your freon. may want to call a local hvac company
The only way the generator might have been an issue is if you didn’t have enough air floor across your evaporator core causing it to freeze up
Well crap… I guess I should start reading some comments before I make one
he doesn't even let you know if that fixed it and he wants you to Subscribe
You will need to dig deeper to get to the evaporator coil. if the coil freezes up it is one of two things air flow or low charge. had the same problem in my dad's bounder. my guess is that the evaporator coil is dirty causing a air flow issue. Also there might be a filter in there somewhere that could need cleaning. clean out the pan and drain as mentioned earlier. When the coil freezes up the run off will often miss the pan and drip through the discharge vent which I'm guessing is happening. HTH. love the channel by the way.
This weekend we were at Havasu and on day three, with the AC running 24/7, it started to drip pretty bad. Duo Therm model 57915522. I found that the white plastic drain tray under the evaporator is cracked on the rear passengerside corner. I'm guessing that is the culprit.
I have not been able to find just that drain tray online. If any one can refer me to a site i can purchase from that would be great. I've checked several and can't find just that part.
I am thinking I will just seal as much of that crack as I can if I can't order that part for a reasonable price.
Thanks for the video.
Mine is cracked too did you find one? If so we're?
Good deal mines did the same thing had to seal it good job thanks
Why are you using the 5200 instead of the lap seal? Does it work better? As a newbie I was just wondering?
Ok, I guess I missed that part about it being Sunday. Sorry..... Hope you are having fun miss seeing Becca... Tell her Hi from me.. lol
Have you found the problem? It may be like mine, if I turn the thermostat to low at startup and not bring it down in steps it will rain and blow ice chips inside If unit is hot set therm to 80 when it cycles then go down more and solved problem
check the drain line...could be plugged with crap and needs to be cleaned out. Or if it's getting too cold and freezing up, might need a pressure shutoff switch...(probably another name) which tells the AC to stop cooling and not freeze up. Good luck! if it wasn't raining its not leaking from the gap.
Thermostatic switch
I fuc*in hate this life style choice....I'm poor, single and have no trade am not mcguyver more mcdestroyer
These people in my country are grossly incompetent, lazy, self entitled rip off sabatoures, that say things like if we didn't rip each other off we would all be bankrupt mate,or near enough is good enough aye mate🇦🇺
Your coil is most likely freezing and overwhelming the drain pan and also maybe missing the pan altogether there is a device called a trimester make sure it is on the coil and in the right spot this stops freezing also a good rule of thumb never turn the ac on more then a 20 degree delta it will overwhelm the ac if it's 90 out set the thermostat at 70
Yeah I'm not raising it past 16 °c I wish it could get down to -4°c it's 100%humidity and about 35-38°c I just want to smash this caravan so bad with a sledgehammer 😂😑😬🤪😡😠☠️
En air conditioner shutting down
Your vidio was right on for my leaky AC. The drain plug was scumed up and cleaning did the trick. Thanks again for taking the time to share,
Glad the video and comments helped.
I don't believe you are suppose to caulk around the A/C. I thought it was the job for the gasket??
You should try to remove a bronze thru-hull transducer that had been installed with 5200. It really sounds like the water is condensate from the A/C. It really shouldn't be icing up. Icing can be caused by insufficient air flow(dirty filter) or a problem with the gas charge in the system. You might have to ask an A/C guy about this one. Did you try running it with the cover off to see if you can find where the water is coming from? Keep us in the loop on this one.
True..
I needed a very small ac to fit my window. I was able to install this one only using one of the side panels. I like the Eco feature where the AC cycles on and off maintaining a room temperature.
I wish my ceiling was strong enough to stand on I way 110kg and it's a champion Fazal 3000
I wish I wasn't afraid of heights so I could get up there in the first place 😂
110kg ?? 97% of USA dwellers couldn't tell you if that's closer 100 pounds (pitte woman) or 300 pounds (heavy man). I'm college ed. and ?. Just saying. Guess.
2.2 kg per lb ??? or I see .454 on food packages....so ?
Probably not leveled
Hi Ben You might have to check the RPM on your compressor if its not high enough it will not run the Ac it will only run small things only
read your post???
What Micheal French said.
nuthin like ah little 5200
On a sticks & bricks AC, you can get frosting & dripping from low on coolant or fan not moving enough air through the exchanger (this is often dirty filters.. Hope that helps.
Wish I could over some suggestions, but I have no idea. I do know that my air conditioning just drips onto the metal roof and depending on which way the RV leans, it can run down the roof and drip from the front or rear.
The only time our Roof Air leaks inside ...is when we run it for a few hours with high humidity going on.
It seems the Air conditioner actually will Ice up inside and after awhile it melts and leaks inside our rig.
There are quite a few good RUclips videos on this specific subject.
I had sort of the same problem and first I thought it was was the refrigerator because the share the same outside drain on my model but when I got deeper in to it ,it was as simple as leveling your RV correctly
