RV AC DIY FIX - It's Raining Inside Our RV - AC Leaking Inside The RV - Fixing a Common RV AC Issue. Every time we turned on our RV AC, water would start dripping out. A little at first, but over time, a lot. We kept a bucket under it until we couldn't take it anymore. So I ventured up on the roof and cleaned the RV AC Drain Pan and Drain Holes. Problem solved, no more rain in our RV. The wife is very happy...me, too.

This is the real person who deserves the RUclips Award! Thank you for such useful video, going to maintain my AC tonight
The AC was absolutely raining inside my camper until I found this video. Drain pan was clogged plumb full of gunk, rinsed it off and now no more pots and pans on the floor. Thanks a lot!
I am so happy this video helped you out, Layne. Glad all is working well with your AC now. Thanks for watching, Peace!
There is where I am. Single woman gathering tools trying to figure this. Did I mention I hate high places and mine is very tall
@@relaxedyou4059 you got this 👍
Being in HVAC for years I would like to offer some advice. Number one never use a brush on the any coils. Number two you are correct to clean the coils but dust is not what hurts the efficiency it is the dirt stuck to the fins. How days they sell spray and go cleaners that work every well. I suggest using those and it will lower the head pressure, increase the efficiency greatly lowering run time. The number one killer of all AC units is capacitors. They start getting weak and run the unit at much higher temperatures until they finally quit. Chane capacitors ever 4 years and the unit will run for much longer. Thank you for your video. Roy
Capacitors are cheap to replace but if they go back the AC unit can break down.
any videos on how to change out the capacitors on a coleman mach 15 rooftop unit?
@@peterc504did you ever find out how?
@@IWillSmurfYou no I didn't:(
Finally! Drip drip drip goes the a/c and I knew it was something like this! Thank you!
Also add the tin foil tape to all seams to seal off any air leaks
Very informative. I actually went up the other day and took the plastic cover off but not being very informed about the procedure I decided not to take any more apart until I watched a video. The unit you took apart is exactly like my unit. I now feel comfortable servicing my ac unit. Thanks for an informative video.
I just fixed my air conditioner, those holes were clogged, I filled your vidio and now I'm a happy camper. Thank you.
Love all the small bits of advice when working on this stuff...wasp nests and all!
I also found 2 dirt-dobber nests in there as well, Dan. I try to cover as much as I can think of while videoing. Thanks for watching, Dan, and we appreciate your support. Peace.
Thanks for helping fix the horrible leak we had in the RV! This video helped huge and it ended up being a super easy fix!!
You got a new subscriber the moment I started and saw you with the umbrella. It instantly let me know I was in the right place. Gonna have to get up there tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it went. Thank you.
Well, we are glad you're here, Justus. If you dig and little bit crazy....yes, you're in the right spot. Thanks for watching and stay in touch! Peaqce.
Thank you for posting this video as it helped me very much because here I was sitting on my recliner enjoying my day off watching some TV when all of a sudden my feet got wet. I turned everything off started taking things apart and I couldn't figure out what it was until I started looking on RUclips and came across your video and that's exactly what was wrong with mine. Once again man thanks for posting this video it helped me out tremendously and probably save me several hundred dollars.
Great content. Just finished cleaning my drip pan as you described… it was clogged & filthy! Used my 20v vac to clean the coils. No more dripping in my rv. Thanks so much for the how-to. ❤
Thank you for this how-to video. I think it is very helpful and can help someone save the service call. Good job Ricky.
Appreciate that, Bill and Nancy. Fairly common RV AC problem for people. If it hasn't happened yet....it will. Thanks for watching. Peace!
Great information and walk through. 😂😂😂😂😂😂loved the indoor rain shower intro.
Glad you enjoyed it, Jonnie. Wish I had a van so we could collaborate on it. Keep on, keeping on.
Great job on the video, very informative.
Great video, nice detail and we literally have that exact same blue towel, lol. I think I'll use it when I clean our drip pan just for the sake of it. Thanks
I just did mine today! Thank you sir. Couldn’t have done it so simple without your video 🙏
Glad it helped, Matthew. Thanks for watching this video and supporting our channel. Peace.
This is the first AC maintenance video that has shown taking the shroud off and the rest of the parts to get to the evaporator coils. All the others I've seen skip that process. One of my AC units has been dripping, though not every time. I need to clean both of them.
Thanks for watching, Laura! Glad this video was helpful. Hope you get your AC straightened out. Peace!
@@RVUNDERWAY I will, but the screws on the shroud are really tight and I'm still not crazy about being on the roof, in general.
Oh my! Looks like we are going to need a bigger umbrella 🤣 Glad you are getting that fixed.
Yep, I put it off so long that it started dripping on Ms Barbara's laptop table...at which time she put her foot down. I knew what it was, just so dang hot, I wasn't looking forward to that time on the roof. Thanks for watching and your support. Peace, Charlie Grace.
EXCELLENT video, very detailed and i like how you showed how you took apart everything and how it works. Been watching all sorts of video's trying to save $$ in fixing simpler stuff. I have a 2022 highland ridge open range roamer 364BHS 5th wheel. Would love to see some on caulking and re-sealing around the roof structures...
Awesome, thank you, B (Brian?) Glad the video was helpful. I do, as a matter of fact, need to recaulk the exterior of our RV, so maybe a video topic is in my near future. In the meantime, I'm sure you'll find some of those videos on RUclips, Happy hunting and thanks for watching! Peace.
Good DIY Ricky, very helpful to those who have rooftop AC.
Thanks, Dee. Yep, there's always plenty to discover, regardless the means of RV living. If I sit still for 5 minutes, I'll think of 5 things I need to be working on. But I love it. Thanks for your support, Dee. Peace.
Thanks, Ricky! That was very informative and well detailed with the process 👍 👍
Your a lifesaver thanks
This was really a great video, everything I needed to know in order to solve my A/C problem.
Saw your camper at Williamsburg TT so I subscribed. The next day it started raining in my camper and came across this video. Because of your video I was able to fix the problem! Thank you!
Welcome aboard, Jerrod! You should have stopped and said hello. We love meeting new friends out on the road. Glad the video helped, that's what it is all about. Thanks, again, for watching and subscribing. Good to know you. Peace.
Perfect video and just in time, hasn't gotten to the point where I need an umbrella.
Take care of it on a regular schedule and you'll be good to go. Thanks for watching, Mark. Peace!
Thank you so much for this extremely helpful video. I watched up until about nine minutes and I thought I had it from there and then I realized I put the pan in backwards and I was so confused. I'm glad I went back and watched the rest of your video again thank you so much.
Great share y’all!! We definitely love doing our own diy projects!! It’s never a good thing getting water 💦 or rain in your RV. Safe travels y’all ♥️
So true! Don't leave it to someone else when I can do it myself. Fixed the rain inside the RV...we're happy. Be careful out there and have fun! Peace.
It’s nice to be able to do your own work, isn’t it. Easier version, take a long wooden skewer up with you and open the holes. Tech tip. 😂
Tru Dat, Scott. I use a very thin cable-tie to clear the drain holes, but it got so bad with the forward AC that I just needed to give it a good cleaning. Truth be known, I actually used a slightly larger drill bit and opened the drain holes up a bit. Not much, just enough to help the flow. Thanks for watching, brother. BTW, would like to ask you and Allison to join us on a live stream sometime to talk about the Texas RV Maintenance School. I am very interested in attending...need something to do in my retirement. Peace.
thank you for being so thorough and teaching us how to do this!
my AC started dripping condensation a couple of days ago - we’ve been FT for 14 months so it’s time to clean them AC’s
i’ve been afraid to tackle this task but this weekend i’m going to get my ladder from storage
Glad it helped! You can do it, Katherine. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. Peace!
Well done, thank you. Not to little or too much info, we'll paced. You had me at the umbrella too Lol. Blessings!
Thanks for the informative video and explanation of every step!
My tray was stopped up on each drain hole. Problem solved!! 👍🏼👍🏼
I went ahead and drilled my holes bigger to prevent further blockage
Hopefully this video will help someone.. stay safe out there 💙
It's a common problem and tons of videos about it. Someone will benefit. Thanks, Mary. Peace.
Thank you Ricky, I've had a rain issue in my pop up. Now I know how to fix myself
Great video. Thank you. I was afraid to remove my pan, but now I understand how to do it.
Thanks for watching...and I'm glad it was helpful in getting you fixed up. Good luck. Let us know how it goes, Carlos. Peace.
Thanks! Just what I needed to know!
Great video! I cleaned my AC evaporator & condenser a month ago. Never thought about the drip tray. Now it rains inside LOL. I removed the tray today, cleaned it out, AND, I drilled out the drain holes, doubling their size. Should be no more issues with them getting plugged.
Glad I could help TFSFireman. Truth be known....I also drilled out the drain opening...but didn't mention that in the video. Command decision. Haven't had any issues since. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Appreciate you. Peace!
Great Job Sir, I had to give you a thumbs up and subscribe!
Excellent video! We’ve been getting “rained on” in the RV for our past 3 trips. With the Texas heat right now it runs non stop. I was nervous about going on the roof and messing with the AC unit. After watching this video I’m about to go outside and tackle the job right now! Thanks!
So glad it helped! Hopefully you were able to fix the raining...and pray you stayed safe. Thanks for watching. Safe travels, Thomas. Peace.
My AC is exactly the model you demonstrate on. Thanks for the info. It worked perfectly.
Glad it helped, Nancy! That makes it all worth it...making a video that actually helps someone. Thanks for watching. We appreciate you. Peace.
Clear and concise. Thank you.
Thanks for the heads up! Its exactly the same type of AC we have amd its been raining inside for a few days. Me not being very mechanical, and with no one in this lakeside community wanting to work...ive often been lefy to figure it out or do without. Thank you so much. Im subscribing for future help.
Thanks a bunch for this video. Helped me get rid of my waterfall in my rv!!!!
So glad it helped! Thanks for watching. Safe travels. Peace.
that helps a lot not to mention a cost of repair at the rv dealerrship! thank you!
Glad to help! Thanks for watching. Peace.
You explained it perfect. Ty.
Thank you very much very informative video I need to lift my ac unit because I need to reseal the roof specially around the ac , I’m not so good doing this but your video was very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you RV Ricky... GOOD JOB.. I Will recommend this video... you know what you are doing ! 👍
Awesome thank you, Carvin! I appreciate your recommendation. Hopefully it will help others! Peace.
Thank you!!!! 🫶🙌✨
You are so welcome, Justin! Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching. Peace.
Thank you for making a good video. The last video I saw literally just hosed the a/c unit off from the outside. Also, why do they make the drip pans so small on RV's? I gotta go up there every other week to bleach the algae outta my system
Thank you for making this video! Now off to go fix this same issue!
I appreciate that, Ian. Good luck with the AC units. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel! Peace.
Thanks, friend. Very thorough and helpful
Very glad it was helpful!, Trill. Peace.
@@RVUNDERWAY in my case, it was a result of getting my trailer too level. But now my drain pan and evaporator are clean at least.
Good info for all!
Hey, Jeanne. Spent some time last week with Shelly and Michael. Hopefully we can meet you someday. Thanks for watching. Peace.
Nice video !! Fixed my issue - this guy is awesome
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching the video and supporting our channel. More great videos coming. Peace, Michael!
I just did mine today and also cleaned the coils and it did fine but I left for a couple hours and now it’s just blowing but not blowing cold
Thanks for this video now I can fix my rain forest inside my trailer 😅👍
😁😁😁 Glad i could help, Frank. Peace.
Thank you so much for this video. It helped me immensely. Problem solved.
I’ll be trying this for my sisters camper that is a year old and leaks. I might drill. The drain holes out a little to make drainage easier. Thank you for the video
Thanks for watching, Scott. Not sure if I included that in my video, but I also drilled the holes out a little larger. Haven't had an issue since. Peace!
Don’t drill them too big, insects can enter easier and will get into the camper.
I absolutely love this video! Its helped me out so much!😊 What I've noticed though is mine doesn't drain down through my AC unit, it comes out of the speaker just behind my unit?? Do you have any ideas why that could be? It also puddles up on the side of my AC unit, awning/door side.
Amazing video started raining so I didn't get to clean coils and it was at night. I think I might have bent a few fins but not a bunch hoping I didn't do to much damage ac still works blows cold.
😜you can but a fin comb online and straighten out any that are bent. Glad this video was helpful, Oscar! Thanks for checking out our channel...we appreciate you. Peace, brother.
You're my new hero. ❤
thank you so much!!! problem is fixed
😊Great DYI video Thank you Sir.
You are very welcome. Glad I could help. Kinda' the reason for many of our videos. Drone inspections, huh...sounds very interesting. Appreciate your support. Peace!
Great job. Very good content. Very helpful.
Much appreciated, Kevin. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel! Peace.
Thank you very much
Awsome video. Very helpful
This happened to me when I first got the camper and everyone said it was that… but it wasn’t. The freeze sensor came out of the evaporator coil and had the same results
Wow, so that wasn't a thermostat probe, but a freeze sensor using thermistor in the coils. Good to know. Thanks for watching, brother. Appreciate the comments and your continued support. Peace!
Ok so my husband unclogged the drain holes. The leakage problem was solved.
Then it stopped blowing cold.
So he went back up there, cleaned the coils, checked to be sure the the thermostat wire was correctly placed and it started blowing cool again.
Now it's leaking again - pouring FAR MORE than it was 2 days ago.
I mean, it's BAD!
We started with a small trash can.
Added a 5 gallon bucket.
Some puppy pads.
A towel.
A fan to dry the flooring.
And now another trashcan.
So 3 buckets that we empty 4 times a day.
Floor full of puppy pads that get soaked before we can change them.
And a towel and a fan.
Please help. I'm afraid we're gonna have structural damage around the AC unit.
Could THIS be the freeze sensor?
He did say while he was cleaning the drain pan (or something 🤷🏼♀️) that he may have dislodged a little wire that was sticking into a thermostat.
He wiggled it back in but that was last night.
It DID cause the a/c to start cooling again.
It ALSO began pouring again.
It's like monsoon season inside my home. 😩🤦🏼♀️
@@inthelandofmorethansmall7582 my ac kept leaking also come to find out a support bracket underneath the ac dropped down and allowed water to seep underneath the ac frame seal.
Thank you. Excellent.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. Safe travels, Jeff. Peace.
Excellent video Ricky!
Glad you enjoyed it, Steve. Appreciate your support. Peace!
I used shop vac up there on the coils and the pan, worked great! Great video new sub! ✌🏻
Awesome! Thank you! Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching and joining our channel. Take care out there...but have fun! Peace.

great video sir. i learned alot. thx again and stay safe

Great information.
Thanks for watching, Brenda! Glad it was helpful. Peace.
Thank you for the video
You're welcome and thanks for watching! Hopefully it will help others! Peace.
My pan itself was held by everything and its mother i ended up using a pastic scraper and a screw driver to clean the gunk and debris while pouring water onto the drain pan to ensure a clean flow out
Didn't say where the condensate normally goes. Which is just out on the RV exterior top, and runs off the roof somewhere (path of least resistance?).
On mine, the roof has been "replaced" the buyer said. But up there it looks like a loose rubberized bladder.
I think even when I make sure the drain holes are free, it is still pooling backup towards the unit base and making way to back inside. But I'll see today.
This video was good start direction what to do, then I'll see what would make it complete.
Thanks for watching...and I hope it was helpful in getting you started. On our RV, the normal path of condensation is just out on the roof, no bladder or hose. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. Peace.
Thanks that helped alot 😊
thanks so much!
Glad it helped! And thank you for watching. Peace.
Great information 🙏
Glad it was helpful, Matthew. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. We appreciate you. Peace.
Thank you very much
Single woman temporary living in mine I have to get up there and do it myself in a little while I really don't like heights
Be very careful, Karen. But I'm glad to hear that you don't mind doing it yourself. Good luck and again....stay safe. Peace!
Ditto for me, but I did watch a video about getting up onto the roof and getting off. I also have a Little Giant ladder that I've opened up and placed over the RV ladder, so I feel more comfortable with a regular ladder. The RV ladder rails fit nicely between the Little Giant ladder rails, and that would be the same for most extension ladders.
Will this also be the case for the heating system if there is water ?
thanks great job
Thanks for watching, Michael. Hope it was helpful. Peace.
We still have drippings after the maintenance guys “supposedly” cleaned everything on the roof. One said he drilled extra drain holes! We’re waiting on approval for a new a/c.
Interesting! Hope you get it taken care of. Thanks for watching. Peace!
Thank you! My rv guy is really expensive and he does really bad work. I can do that and save myself a bundle of money. Thanks so much.

Ricky, noticed you had a Harbor Freight screw gun there. How do like it? Some of their new power tools look good but I've not used one yet.
Greg, thanks for watching. Yes, love the Bauer Impact Drill. Great battery life and durable. I easily compare it to my DeWalt. I'm not a big fan of Harbor Freight tools, but that driver has been with me for 4 years of hard use. Peace.
Great Infro My problem i can not climb i have hirer someone do our roof i do not like water leaks does damage in walls too and floors
Water bad. Thanks for watching, James. Stay safe out there and hope to see you soon. Peace, brother.
Could this also cause it to drip through the wall into my closet?
Where dose the water run normally?

Do I turn the ac off before doing all of this or can I leave the ac on ?

Great video! What if you don’t have a plastic drip tray? I have a Dometic penguin duo therm for a 94’ Ford Falcon and all there is underneath is styrofoam. Not sure what to do.
Hi, Mickey. I tried to research your Dometic Penguin Duo-Therm AC and didn't have much luck. I've never worked on that unit, so can't advise you, but I did find some links that may be helpful. Good luck, brother.

Awesome video. I hadn’t seen this yet so I hired someone to do this when my AC was raining. However, now it’s a little smelly whenever the AC is on- almost like mildew. Any thoughts? Or do I just need to check his work and make sure he did it right? Thank you.
Great to have you here, Beth. Welcome! That mildew smell is probably coming from mold/mildew on the evaporator coils or the insulation inside the coil cover. If you can, I would check those two things. Hope this helps...and again, thanks for dropped by. Good luck, Beth. Peace.
I watch all the videos I can't seem to stop the leak I've done everything it said what else could it be does it have to have a gasket do they
