I know, that's the thing with the model railways so the Oo gauge and the Ho gaugeare the same size it's just the Oo is the UK and ho is America but the only difference between the trains for each one is that on the Oo/UK track the trains are actually to scale of their real life counterparts whereas the ho/USA trains aren't and that's why their large in model form than the Oo train
A little knowledge about the big boy is, they were used for fast freight trains, note that a single one of these giants can pull a freight train (5 MILES LONG) on level track.
The reason the Big Boy is bigger than any other American freight locomotive is that, not only was it built to pull long freight trains, it is was also built to go up a serious hill, Sherman Hill.
I like how this video shows the difference of what the UK built their trains for and what the US built their trains for. America built trains for freight primarily, and the UK built trains for passengers mostly. So the flying Scotsman would beat the big boy in speed, but the big boy would beat any steam loco in terms of strength and power.
It's pretty funny that the Big Boy was in the lead in the 1st place until halfway through the race. Because the world's largest steam locomotive isn't supposed to be going faster than a passenger locomotive. It's crazy that a monster like this took the lead until halfway through. Because the Big Boy is the largest, heaviest, and most powerful steam locomotive ever built.
Just as this happened in your Acela vs. TGV race, our trains were built for power (In this case for the Big Boy) and for speed with the Acela, but not to a degree of most European high speed trains.
this may be a year old, but I'm just gonna say this for the hell of it. in the US, our engines are mainly designed to pull tens of thousands of tons of heavy freight as some of our lines are too treacherous for passenger services.
Midland Compound 1000 I agree, since Flying Scotsman was built to go fast, I think the Big Boy has an unfair disadvantage and also note I'm just starting to watch this
6:31 Flying Scotsman in British accent: "Congratulations, Big Boy. You did surprisingly well in the start. You Americans may not be fast, but you are on a shadow of a doubt, the strongest." Big Boy in American accent: "Same with you, Scotsman. You may not be as strong as I am, but you deserve the same that you've had throughout the years. Good race."
You need to do Union Pacific 844 vs The Flying Scotsman. This way you program the locos makes it a fair race. So I would like to see an American Passenger vs English Passenger.
My brother Big Boy has let me down! Put train cars on the Scotsman and Big Boy, and then race them. Flying Scotsman will be no match to the strength of the Big Boy. Btw, good video, I love both engines, I love your videos, keep them awesome videos coming, bro!
Wouldn't be a fair test now would it? And the Scotsman would still beat the Big boy providing you didn't put a ridiculous amount of coaches on, because that's how the Scotsman go to 100
diamondminerHD RPG GAMER ok pal. Hold up. Are you trying to tell me...the flying Scotsman, an engine build for high speed PASSENGER runs, would beat the big boy, designed to pull five and a half mile long freight trains competently at 80 miles an hour? We are talking about a freight test right? A test of strength? Sorry, but the big boy will always have you beat in a test of strength. I will admit that the Scotsman will win in speed.

What I don't understand about these simulations you do is the speed limiting thing. What's that all about? Shouldn't you be racing them with both locomotives having the same performance specifications as the real things, otherwise what's the point?
Hi Lisa I hope you’re doing good today I hope you’re doing better I love this morning princess and I hope you’re doing better you are ok I love 💖 I am I just got
Christabelle and Karen have been paid to do this work and I have been given the money 💰 was the time to call me back and let him go and out the door 🚪 morning and I have decided to go and I have decided to do that and I’m not working there and that’s how it feels and what I’m saying it’s just wrong talking about you guys and you are the only way I can feel what
The Flying Scotsman and the Big Boy are my two favorite trains. Ever. Because of that I knew Flying Scotsman was going to win the race, and the reason Big Boy got to top speed so much faster. It's because it has 16 driving wheels, as opposed to the Flying Scotsman's 6. Remember Big Boy was designed to transport a LOT of supplies at one time, efficiently. Flying Scotsman was created to transport people over long distances, quickly. A race of pure speed would always be in Flying Scotsman's favor, but when you add extremely heavy loads into the mix, that's when Big Boy will shine. (Also, sorry about going on and on about stuff you probably already know, I just really like both of these trains.)
Makes perfect sense that Big Boy would have a faster start; all that power given to him for heavy and long trains and he only has to move himself? Oh yeah. He can launch _n i c e l y_
I'm an American and I know the flying scotman won I think the big boy is better because it can pull up to a mile and a half on flat land or maybe it's two miles of train cars and if you ask me I think that's a lot of weight just imagine how much horsepower and torque the big boy makes🚂🚂🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷
I think the reason why big boy was sp far in the lead at first was because it didn't have any cars behind it so it was able to use its incredible power to accelerate faster, but in the long run it didn't have the top speed of Flying Scotsman.
diamondminerHD RPG GAMER Lol yes they are. A UP FEF-3 can go 120mph on LEVEL track, where a Mallard had to go down a hill to get to 126 because it's maximum speed on level track is only 90mph. There's plenty of proof that american steam locomotives are faster than british ones. You saying that I have no proof of such things is you being comepletely ignorant. Why are American steam locomotives faster than british ones? Well, american steam locomotives are much much larger, which allows for a much larger boiler, and a much larger boiler allows for brutal amounts of power, and brutal amounts of power allows for fast speeds. UP FEF-3's also have 80 inch drive wheels, which are designed for speed. The Union Pacific themselves have estimated 844's top speed to be above 130mph. And sometime in the 1940's, the PRR S1 ran 134mph. Every single American steam locomotive that was intended for fast passenger service did 100mph or greater on average. The reason you see an american steam locomotive do no greater than 80mph today is because railroads don't allow them to go above that speed for safety reasons. An NYC Hudson did greater than 110mph on passenger services regularly. Anyone that says American steam locomotives are slow is ignorant, just like you. Also, there is an organization that is currently building a T1 Duplex called the "T1 Trust". They are building a PRR T1 Duplex and they want to do passenger excursions with it when fully built in a few years from now. But they won't do just that, they are also going to attempt to break the world speed record for steam locomotives. The PRR T1's all used 80 inch drivers, but they weren't regular drivers, they were what were known as "boxpok" drivers. Boxpok drive wheels are designed for speed. Another thing that PRR T1's used were poppet valve gear, instead of baker or walschearts. The poppet valve gear allowed for much greater speeds than the regular baker or walschearts valve gears. And not only that, but the T1's also used roller bearings, which just allowed for even more speed. Also, once the organization finishes building the new T1, the speed they will aim for to set the new record will be 140mph or greater.
diamondminerHD RPG GAMER 140mph is entirely possible. Also, in a Fort-Wayne Chicago run, the PRR S1 exceeded 156mph, for which the railroad company recieved a fine for doing so. Other railroad officials at the time recorded speeds greater than 140mph. In another run the S1 did in 1945, railroad officials recorded a speed of 141mph. And what do you mean "evidence that isn't there"? Lol, did you not read when I said that the locomotives I listed used roller bearings, 80 inch boxpok drivers, and poppet valves? Those three things were specifically designed to increase the speed of a steam locomotive.
Of course Flying Scotsman is faster in real life her top speed is 100, the Big Boy has more drive wheels (that are bigger with two times as many pistons) so it has a greater acceleration, even though she has a lower top speed, also the Union Pacific Big Boy is the 4000 class and was built for freight trains at a faster speed, so they weren't as long as others, even though they were like 5 miles long. By the way I like Flying Scotsman better.
The Big Boy makes Flying Scotsman look like a narrow gauge engine
I know, that's the thing with the model railways so the Oo gauge and the Ho gaugeare the same size it's just the Oo is the UK and ho is America but the only difference between the trains for each one is that on the Oo/UK track the trains are actually to scale of their real life counterparts whereas the ho/USA trains aren't and that's why their large in model form than the Oo train
the reason why the Big Boy started so quickly is because those things were built with the torque to handle mile long freight trains.
Big Boy is like a truck and Flying Scotsman is like a sports car with a slow start
True
A Bugatti vayron has a slow start so flying scotsman is like a bugatti
Well your like SHIT big boy is a AWSOME train XD
Toby-king24 no it doesn’t, it’s one of the fastest accelerating cars...
Teah
Any train export will tell y’all that big boy’s are for power while A3’s (like Flying Scotsman) are food speed. I love both of them!
A little knowledge about the big boy is, they were used for fast freight trains, note that a single one of these giants can pull a freight train (5 MILES LONG) on level track.
The longest train was less than 5 miles long
The reason the Big Boy is bigger than any other American freight locomotive is that, not only was it built to pull long freight trains, it is was also built to go up a serious hill, Sherman Hill.
Big boy was used in ww2 to hall freight and u.s. troops.
@@Longhaul1764 mostly just freight

I'm not surprised at all by these results. Not only is Scotsman lighter, but he's also got slightly bigger drive wheels.

Yeah
Or a G5s
I like how this video shows the difference of what the UK built their trains for and what the US built their trains for. Because the Big Boy is the largest, heaviest, and most powerful steam locomotive ever built.
It was ahead because it has better tractive power due to increased weight and driving wheels. Scotsman was always gonna win
well bigboy has smaller wheels for more torque so it would start off faster, but Flying Scotsman has larger wheels for speed.
Very interesting choice for a race. You always surprise me Lazer.
Actually, Scottsman is the first engine to hit 100 while pulling a train. The City of Turo was the first to go 100 without a train
It was carrying mail wasn't iy
UP 4021 is the most. beautiful train I've ever seen. It can pull more cars than 5 diesel engines could
Just as this happened in your Acela vs. TGV race, our trains were built for power (In this case for the Big Boy) and for speed with the Acela, but not to a degree of most European high speed trains.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I know why Big Boy gets a good start: Big Boy has four pistons driving two pairs of small wheels
4:26 I already knew that was going to happen:)
For future races you could add a third line and drive the mallard or something on that line so you can keep up
Big boy may've had faster acceleration but flying Scotsman had better speed, excellent job LaZeR JET.
this may be a year old, but I'm just gonna say this for the hell of it.
in the US, our engines are mainly designed to pull tens of thousands of tons of heavy freight as some of our lines are too treacherous for passenger services.
