  • Strokes cause a lot of disability, and a lot of misery. The sad thing is many of them are preventable.
I discuss what a stroke is, what sort of disabilities they cause, how to prevent one, and what to do if you have a stroke.

Best blood pressure is 120/80 or lower. Good blood pressure is 140/90 or lower.
Severe high blood pressure is 180/110 or higher.

My brain MRI showed a couple of spots of white matter disease noted as insignificant. I guess that would be like tiny strokes.

"Tiny spots" appear on many brain MRIs and CT scans, can provoke a lot of patient anxiety, and nobody really knows what to do about them. Likely some are normal, and others may represent tiny strokes or other problems. My best advice is to check your blood pressure and keep it normal. If you've never had stroke symptoms, that's probably all that's necessary. If you have had symptoms, I'd recommend seeing a neurologist.

As far as topics, how about multiple sclerosis and disability? My mom has MS and had to go through the disability process.
