I think the pen is exactly 90° degrees out, ref writing test 🤔 🤦🤪. Very nice end result, micro boring bar holders worked perfectly. Love the outake Jon. Thanks for sharing and have a great Bank Holiday weekend.
Great work Jon, wouldn't even attempt that on my Myford 😁 By the way for future reference when you go into production, old bandsaw blades are actually spring steel 15n20 or equivalent, Ive got miles of it if you ever need any 👍
Hi Matty, thanks for the comment and feedback. Go for it, I thoroughly enjoyed making this. Don't forget to shout out where your inspiration came from😊👍. Cheers, Jon
Stunningly good looking pen there Jon. I'm not going to attempt one, for the simple reason that I can't stand writing with a slippery stainless pen. Much prefer the rubber ones.
Hi Bill, thanks for the comment and feedback. Hopefully the finger grip slots give enough purchase, I will soon find out, this one is going in my work bag for daily use. I love the weight of it, very heavy and feels quality as a result. Cheers, Jon
Hi Dudley, thanks for the comment and feedback. Lol, videos all a bit out of sequence, but the micro boring bars and holders were the missing tools😉. Cheers, Jon
Great Pen Jon You've got the Pen, now you can write a book on making a "Metal Pen", just don't forget to add an addendum (to make sure the ink hasn't dried up)😉😉🤔🤔👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 BFN Kev
Hi Kev, thanks for the comment and feedback. Lol, that's what happens when you are impatient and get Loctite on your ball point...... Who knew😂. Cheers, Jon
Hi John I've just found your channel with great videos. I've also got my own home workshop and like to build live steam models. Looking forward to seeing your next video.
Hi Tony, thanks for the comment and feedback. I thoroughly enjoyed making this. I will make another one in the future but totally different. It's very therapeutic and I will use this one daily at work. Cheers, Jon
Nice pen but there is no need to loctite the mechanism in the brass end should be a push fit to grip it and the top needs to be a hand press fit enough to hold the top on and twist the mechanism that is to allow for it to be pulled off and the cartridge replaced when needed. I have made quite a few pens with this mechanism well over 50
Hi DL, thanks for the comment and feedback. Totally over engineered, can't help myself sometimes lol. I had both the push fit and Loctite as belt and braces. I will try without on my next one. Cheers, Jon
Hi, apologies, I have thrown away the scribbles I did. Also, the most important dimensions are the internals, and these would need to be derived depending on what refill and mechanism hardware you purchase etc.
That was really good! It must have been hard to work it out to suit the refill! You can wear that pen on your tee shirt for every video you make even if it doesn't work lol!
Hi Dermot, thanks for the comment and feedback. This one is going to work with me so I get to use it every day. I may have another crack at something similar in the future for the workshop 👍. Cheers, Jon
You should have kept the outtake as the ending! What amount of runout do you get putting the collet block in the 3 jaw? I couldn't see any. I've used that method before, but I get a fair bit of runout so would have switched to the collet chuck for these small precision parts. Great video, thanks.
Hi Olly, thanks for the comment. I get about 0.1mm run out which is a combination of chuck and collet block. I just use shim stock to balance it and avoid marking the collet block. I cut 3 bits at 0.1, 0.08, & 0.05mm thickness, and just juggle them about to get near zero. Bit fiddly but pretty quick to do. Dedicated collet chuck on the to do list 😉. Cheers, Jon
Well done
Very Nice i think i will try one, keep up the good work
Pretty snazzy. 👍
Thanks Tom

I love the bling on the pen! Looks great!
Hi Brandon, thanks for the comment, lol I wanted to do something but tried to keep it understated so it wasn't too blingy! Cheers, Jon

Thanks Loz, production lol, not sure it will be very profitable lol. Cheers, Jon
Hi Jon. Nice bit of work. Their is nothing better then making something that can be used every day.
Hi R B, thanks for the comment. Bang on, this one is going in my work bag so will get used every day! Cheers, Jon
Gday Jon, that’s a pretty flash ink stick mate, bloody top job, should have a go at one myself someday, thanks for sharing, cheers

Nice one . Lol , did you have imperial ink in a metric pen for the out take ! 👍
Thanks Max, lol, that's what happens when you are impatient and get Loctite on your ball point! Cheers, Jon
That certainly turned out well! Now, what new equipment needs buying? 😁
Hi Dudley, thanks for the comment and feedback. Lol, videos all a bit out of sequence, but the micro boring bars and holders were the missing tools😉. Cheers, Jon

Great video Jon, especially the out-take. Just need to get you writing on the lines and not across them and you've nailed it.
Hi Choroidal, thanks for the comment and view. Lol, I'm just happy to be able to remember and correctly spell my name these days. Cheers, Jon

That's an interesting project. I think at the end you did forget to charge the batteries :)
But a really nice end result.
Hi Rusti, thanks for the comment, I thoroughly enjoyed making this. Might do another (different design) in the future. Cheers, Jon
Rite Jon Dude, Really nice result I bet it feels great in the hand and has a good weight! TFS, GB :) out take... yeah had that happen a few times 😂
Hi Graeme, thanks for the comment and feedback. Yeah, the weight is very nice, gives a real quality feel. Cheers, Jon
Nice Pen Jon! Great work!
Stay healthy!
Chris
Thanks Chris, much appreciated mate. Cheers, Jon
Merry Christmas John mate. Cracking project. Really impressed. Don't suppose you would share the plans so I can have a go?

@jonsworkshop no worries. Thanks very much for taking the time to reply though. I'll have a go and see how I get on. Merry Christmas mate. 👍
Fantastic Jon, I really enjoyed it. The end result is very pleasing indeed. Now I know why you made the mini boring bar holders!
Hi Carl, thanks for the comment and feedback. Yep, and how well did that perform?? Massively impressed with those cermet tools. Cheers, Jon
@@jonsworkshop My pleasure.
