Hi Max, thanks for the feedback. You are not wrong. I was playing around with a different format, great for the armchair viewer but missing quite a bit of detail for the home workshop viewers. Also, and I know you will understand this, compressing nearly 2hrs of footage into 30 mins not losing continuity is a right pain in the rear!!! Lesson learnt. Cheers mate.

Great to hang out for a while with you in the shop. As I get stronger and filling more human, I am enjoying my shop a little more each day. The machinist vise that was in my last lot of tool acquired in July, had a machinist vise. Has no makers mark, but well built. Would been nice to have known the machinist that used the tools, but sure he's looking down and glad they went to a good home! Cheers, and my you tip a Genesis to a vise well made and another useful tool in the shop, Bear.

Excellent build Jon, apprenticeship completed 👏, lol.
I made one very similar 30 plus years ago, was contracting in a tool room, that due to be closed down, so plenty of "Foreigners " on the go ( Homers or Government jobs). I went a bit bigger, there was a nice chunk of 4" (102mm) square B01, and it just fitted in the muffle.

Hi Dean, thanks for the comment and feedback. The clamp is a Carver Clamp, very high quality, UK made ( I think, they certainly used to be anyway). Designed primarily for welders but with a quick fettle of the faces, are very useful for a machine shop. Had them at my very first workplace during my apprenticeship.

Nice work Jon. Same design as my very old and very clapped out machinists vise I use for milling on the lathe. The one thing I would add or look for in another one is a slotted recess on each side to allow clamping down. Some do have this and I think it's a good/better idea. I also liked the orange G clamp you used at 23.15 on the surface grinder. I'd not seen that type before. Very interesting design. Cheers Rob

He has a whore restoration video on that clamp. In addition to your suggestions, it wasn't clear if he relieved the moving jaw to be able to move it freely when it is laid on its side. All of my precision JAM vises are relieved that way and it is quite handy.

I’ve still got all of them, and in my perpetual scrap bin, the chain drilled offcut from the vice.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I show all my mistakes, always have and always will, I am only doing this whole RUclips thing to pass on my knowledge and experience. On this occasion, I made the call not to film based on safety alone. I have not ground with the side of a wheel for over 30 years, it is a very dangerous thing to do with high risk of wheel burst. I did not want to have my physical space compromised by a tripod, and my attention compromised by worrying about filming. I also don't really want to encourage side wheel grinding due to the risks etc. I totally agree with you that it would have been good to see though. The operation went ok, although it took a couple of additional wheel dresses and there was some vibration which was not pleasant. Hope this helps explain a bit why I decided not to film this time round. Cheers, Jon

Yes, as I have replied in a few other comments, I was playing around here with a new video format meaning I was brutal with the editing etc. Also, the last bit, I decided not to film just based on safety, side wheeling is very dangerous and I haven't done it for over 30 years, I didn't want the tripod in the way in case I needed to act quickly, also didn't want the distraction of filming, needed all my concentration keeping my backside firmly together.
