Making a Shake Pen from Stainless Steel - Handmade Ballpoint Pen With Shake Mechanism
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 июн 2024
- Last year I stumbled across a so called shake mechanism for ballpoint pens. I found that little thing rather interesting and by the end of last year I started to built my own version of a „Shake Pen“.
I really didn‘t expected this project to be so challenging and take me a few months and so many tries. A lot of trial and error and dozens of testpieces were made to find the right dimensions, materials, techniques and order of operations to finally get both a working Shake Pen and a product with pleasantly finish.
Despite it‘s simple appearance, a lot of different techniques were used to built the pen including basic turning and milling, deep-hole-drilling, sheet metal bending, electro etching. Especially etching the little symbol to the pens clip was a long journey to get to a satisfying result in the end as it was the first time I experimented with this really cool technique. It's definitely not the last time I used it.
I really hope you enjoy this built even if it is a little bit different as the usual content here on the channel.

I didn't even know shake pens were a thing, well done!
Neither did I ;) But than I've seen it somewhere and instantly thrilled. If you played with one once you get addicted immediately. It's really fun to use :)
Me neither!
Yup

It was a personal pen designed and built for Shakespeare so it’s called Shake-pens
Source- Trust me bro 😎😌
RUclips suggested this video to me, and I'm glad it did!
The pen looks amazing! you did an excellent job
Thanks for taking the time to create, edit, and share!
Hi and thanks for your comment and your feedback! Glad, youtube recommended my content to you and you liked it :) I really appreciate your kind words!
I don't usually say this for machining channels, but this is very beautifully filmed, nice work!
I'm humbled! Thank you very much, I really do appreciate that!
gorgeous pen, makes me wish I could make myself one. Something to really treasure and use regularly
I'm always looking for the perfect pen. This is something special you've created for yourself. I hope it serves you well for many years :)
Wow! Beautiful work!! And the dove you etched on it topped everything off. Well done as always!!
Thank you very much! I really do appreciate that!
I’m fascinated watching people who know what they are doing, making things, especially when precision is involved. Very well done.
the most satisfying video you'll ever see
Amazing video, amazing quality, guys like you are the reason I'm concidering mechanical engineering for school, so thank you!
Wow. That’s a really nice result. Beautifully filmed as well.
Thank you very much! :)
I want one.
It’s the sort of heirloom gift you would pass down to your kids when they graduate.
That's one elegant looking industrial design. Love it.
Thank you very much!
Super Arbeit. 👍
Wie immer alles auf dem höchsten Niveau. Sauber, Präzise und Schön. Ich schaue immer wieder gerne deine Videos. 👍👍👍
Alles gute und bleib gesund.
Making a pen was one of my lab projects in school. I’m definitely going back to the drawing board and making this!
Wiedereinmal ein kleines Meisterwerk mit sehr guter Dokumentation!
Vielen Dank für deinen netten Kommentar! Das freut mich sehr! :)
Overall, this is a highly informative and enjoyable video for anyone interested in engineering. It showcases your talent and expertise while providing valuable insights and inspiration to fellow enthusiasts. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to watching more of your content in the future 👍👍👍
First time heard about shake pen, great job done. Subscribed already 😇
Amazing piece of art!!! Want to own one like this
Beautiful craftsmanship and a novel mechanism. I wish I could buy this.
Kraaaaasne pero si vyrobil! Pozdravujeme zo Slovenska!
Finally someone at par with my mechanics channel. Very well done!
Look up Inheritance Machining
I want to thank you for the HARD WORK YOU HAVE SHARED WITH US. I know filming and making it just doesn't go click and it's done... You are an artist with your tools. THANK YOU AGAIN
Beautiful work and very very elegant. It has nothing to envy to an expensive MontBlanc.
WOW I didn’t realize how much I need one of those.
Very nice project! I MUST make one for my wife to take to work on those rare occasions when she has to actually go to the office. Everyone will be jealous! I am retired but she is still working for now. I was going to make a bolt action type or screw cap type pen or MAYBE a push button type, but now I have ordered a couple of shake mechanisms and I am waiting on them to ship here from Germany. So I am committed.
If you ever do a followup video it would be nice to have more dimensions, drill depths, etc and the length of your ball point cartridge. You did a lot of work developing your design and some of your viewers would probably like to skip all of the trial and error parts, and start with actual dimensions that you have proven will work.
Thanks for making this video. I enjoyed watching it and I will enjoy trying to duplicate your design and match your excellent build quality. Thumb up from me!
Wonderful. A piece of art
That's beautiful work. I like the six little slots for gripping. Good idea.
Thank you very much!
fluting
I would have just knurled it but I think I like the look of those flutes better.
Good stuff, I could watch these types of videos all day! Glad I just came across your channel.
Thank you for your comment! Happy to hear, you found my channel and liked my work :)
Very cool. Thanks for sharing 😎👍
Great pen and great video. Would have loved to see the end of the clip be rounded as well though, since the whole design is made around circles :)
Awesome looking pen and fantastic video !
Thank you very much!
Very cool mechanism & beautiful pen!
they didn't even show the mechanism working.
An excellent video. Off to watch more of your videos.
Thanks a lot! I really do appreciate that!
Excellent video. The shake mechanism is an excellent idea
Thank you very much! Yes, it's really fun to use this mechanism :)
Fascinating.
I didn't know there is such a type of mechanism.
👍👏👏👏
Thank you very much! Yes, its a really cool mechanism. The pen is really fun to use :)

Lots of thinking and work to develop something from idea into functional design.
Very nice! I who write practically nothing in manuscript anymore, it would almost make me want to have one, for the beauty of the object.
im glad you put the 'wait till its cooled down' message! I thought you were just an absolute mad lad for a sec lol
Beautiful job 🔥
That is a beautiful pen.
Watching from Montreal - Canada. Excelent job. Congratulations !
Thank you very much! I really do appreciate that!
This would be a nice gift
Take my money. This video was a joy to watch.
Lovely precision work. Couldn't stop myself to Subscribe and enabled all notification bell icon.
For me, as a pen collector and admirer of great craftsmanship, this work of art is priceless. I have to ask if someone wanted one, would you, and at what price?
porsche make pens like this check P3140
@@adredy For about 100 Euros and rather clunky.
Brilliant workmanship
Thank you very much for your compliment!
Wow, very nice job! A wonderful and elegant piece 👍
Thank you very much for your comment! Happy to hear, you like it.
@@WeCanDoThatBetter now you're ready to make few others pieces. Titanium, aluminium, ceramic ring insert, magnetic lock, buffalo horn cap, fountain pen, hexa or triangle shape .. tons of ideas to explore ! Maybe a micro business to launch of limited series 😉.. good luck and keep it fun for you !
Really nice job. Clean and modern design and well made. And the lathe is also pretty nice. I could use a quality German made lathe 🙂
That's beautiful work of art bro, God bless you.🙏
Thank you very much!
Amazing!!! Incredible craftsman ship💯
Thank you very much!
Slick,I want to make some.
Fantastic work! Love the content.
Thanks!
i wish if i can own one like this
I love this Pen 🖋. Amazing 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much!
I didn't expect to get a WOW! factor from a video about the making of a pen.
But this is WOOOOOW!
Perfection!
😀😀😀
And BTW, I'd love to own one of a kind like this.
I'm sure that it would be prohibitively expensive to manufacture in any quantities though...
Thank you very much for your kind words! I really do appreciate that! Happy to hear you like what I'm doing. So it is possible to make another one, but as you said, regarding about 5h of work it is not the cheapest pen out there ;) If you are interested, you can send me an email to discuss further :) (email in the channel infos). Thanks again for your compliment!
Good job. 👏
A followup project might be a propelling pencil. "Alpha-Gel Shaker Mechanical Pencil" is a current example of this, the shake instead of extending the ink would advance the lead. (I have no idea how to do a 0.5mm collet)
Very neat project.
Interesting idea using an end mill as a micro boring bar 👏👏👍😀
:) Yes, I had nothing different that small on hand so I tried on an other project and it worked quite well, so I did it here again :)
@@WeCanDoThatBetter Definitely will file that in the ‘my try myself locker’. Thank you 👍😀
Wow unbelievable 😳 bravo 👍❤️❤️❤️
That v block tool holder is really cool might have to see if I can find one for my lathe
You mean on the lathes quick change tool holder? This one is especialle for boring bars.
Beautiful, thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for your comment!
आपके कार्य के प्रति आपका समर्पण प्रसंशनीय है 👏👍🙂
Good job , your work is awesome ,
Wow....i like stainless steel pens..your work is pure beauty n with precision...
Thank you so much!
Would love to have one of these, this guy has a few more tools at his disposal than I do however. 😂 Very nice work!
Amazing! I wish I could get something like that :)
Really well done. Nice job!
Thank you very much! :)
Simply well done! 😎
Thank you :)
Want one , I never knew there was such a thing as a shake pen
Amazing work. Makes me want to buy a small metal lathe.
Bolígrafo para toda la vida. No saldrá nada barato...gran esmero en la fabricación.
Great working.
Thanks!
Awesome, so much work for an ballpoint pen. But comes out very well.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, much more work than I expected in the beginning :)
@@WeCanDoThatBetter Do you know how much hours you spend for this?
Great Work!
Thanks!
Good-looking pen with a nice thonky sound when laid down.
Awesome!
Amazing!
Very nice. I have never seen anyone make a clip like this. I have never thought of making a pen because I did not see how I could make a good clip. Can you provide a bit morning formation on the steel you used? I see you annealed it before bending, have you considered hardening it after you were finished forming it? Thank you for a great video. Informative, well edited, a joy to watch.
Thanks for your comment and feedback! I really do appreciate that. The steel I used for the clip was from a roll of 0,5mm feeler gage. Unfortunately there is no indication which sort of steel this is exactly. It only says "springsteel". The roll is 5m 0,5m thick 12,xxmm wide feeler gage springsteel. I thought about hardening the clip after bending but as the clip felt springy enough and I was lazy, I didn't harden it again. But I will try with an other clip to harden it again after bending. I assume that would be better.
Realy perfect work
Thanks!
Ok, yep, that was cool. Subscribed!
Thank you very much for subscribing! Happy to hear, you like what I'm doing.
And now we know why bespoke pens cost so much with all the work you put in. How would I describe it.....?
Flawless.
work of art
Thanks!
Yes, I knew it! (no, not really) You didn't dissapoint.
I hope you enjoyed fabricating as much as I did watching, great result!
Thank you very much for your feedback! I really do appreciate that! As I wrote in the description, I expected this project to be much easier as it turned out but the endresult pays off :)
Don’t know why, but this is so satisfying to watch at 4 am… 🤷🏻♂️
I like your style . great project !
Thanks for your kind feedback!
A hundred years age pen… never be broken and can’t throw 🎉❤
Cool project.
Thanks!
Definitely better, excellent job.
Thank you!
Muito bom, parabéns amigo! 😮❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much!
very nicely done, love it.
Thank you very much!
What I immediately liked about is video is that there is no cliche feel good background music. I love the sound of machinery but I also love the sound my own music in the background while listening to RUclips so this video allows me to do both without having to mute the background music in the case of a shitty accompanying music in the video
That was awesome!
Thanks!
Kereen banget yaah....
I woke at 2am. This was good to find. An ss is beautiful to work with.
Thank you very much. Happy to hear, you like my work!
@@WeCanDoThatBetter top work! All formed by will and knowledge. Keep sending it out.

Es el boli más elegante que he visto desde hace 10 minutos.
Nice job, as usual.
You can make few more holes on that clip.. another 3..4.. it will look nicer, and will hide production necessity for those 2.
Great video, appreciate the skills
Thank you very much for your comment!
🤨I don't know what i am doing watching this at 2 AM, i gotta go to work in 6 hours. Great video BTW
