Getting back into casting after some years unavoidable hiatus, they've been a really big help. Now, I have a question which may also lead to a suggestion. I read recently that in the United States, pennies made after 1982 were zinc with a very thin copper plating. I believe a similar change was made to Canadian pennies, although I have not yet researched the particulars. Canada took the penny out of circulation some years ago, and at my house (and many others) there was a large jar of pennies gathered from pocket change over a number of years. I suppose there may be 20 pounds or more, and most of those dating from shortly before their use ended. I recall that some time ago, there was discussion on your channel, as well as by Elvis Ammo, about using pure zinc as a casting material in its own right (since zinc wheel weights have become ever more common). I had not considered our now-defunct pennies - they are no longer legal tender, and so fair game for experiments. I know you are in contact with many old hands in the hobby of casting bullets and slugs, and I was wondering if you have ever come across the idea of using the post-1982 99+% Zinc pennies to be melted down for casting. I am going to get hold of a separate small crucible and use a spare 2-cavity mold, just so that my existing lead pot & tools are not cross-contaminated, . It may be some time before I can actually do any serious metal melting, as we are now well into winter and temperatures are well below suitable for outdoor casting, even in the workshop. But I thought I would put this idea to you. It may have been tried, and found to be unsuccessful. But, successful casts have been made with Zinc, so perhaps the idea may bear fruit (or bullets, as the case may be). @FortuneCookie45LC looking to make a brass cased Fosbury or conical style minie for a 12 gauge Side by side that I am going to regulate myself for 75yards. The chamber is 2 9/16ths. Any advice?

Have you tried the Segmented Russian slug yet? It looks very promising. It does not use a special wad but instead uses a screw to hold it.
What advantages do these slug designs offer over others? Can these be used in a rifled slug bore?

Hey Steve I've been wanting to use that spray on my six cavity molds. Have you tried it enough to know if it works well with those molds ?
What primer, hull, powder and grain weight do you use for these loads?
