What a great duo we made Jamie. You as the videographer, me as the worker...cutting access, scooting over beaver damns....great time. I LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF THE TIM RIVER!
Whoa, hang on here! Let's not be too hasty. Let's see how you do on the rest of the trip eh? :) You were fun to adventure with, although hopefully next time we get you in more shots at you remove your camera shyness! :)
Thanks for sharing! Loved the video. I've travelled the Tim from the access point to Rosebary and then from the Stag Lake portage into Shippagew. Lot's of the river I've not seen yet, so I'm enjoying watching the trip. You took your swim at the beaver dam like a champ! I've lost track the number of times I've had to do that. Looking forward to the next video!
Grin - thanks for noticing my bonous swim at the dam! :) I managed to trip on a bunch of sticks when scrambling for the boat and took what I call a graceful dive into the water. Luckily all I suffered was a very short slap to my pride ;) Based on Luke's laugh in the video I think he enjoyed it quite a lot! I've done some parts of the Tim three times now so in upcoming sections I am hoping to include some flashback pictures from the older trips as well. Thanks for following along and commenting on the video. If you record your next journey down the Tim please let me know! :)
Having someone on a site I've booked is a fear of mine going backcountry. I see too many videos from the past couple of (covid) years where people were camping at the only site on a lake they hadn't booked because they didn't 'feel' like going to the site they'd booked. Seems like the two of you had quite the adventure!
It was indeed quite the adventure but we aren't quite done yet. Still have two more travel days to go before we reach our take-out point. The last two years have been problematic. On the Tim we came on people already at the site but since we had booked it and there was no close alternative we camped there anyway. The other place was on Daisy Lake, all the sites were taken but we had also reserved a site there as well. We ended up finishing the trip a day early.
Great trip guys, I did the time river last year (but going upstream) it was a hard slog in low water, but lots of moose all along the route. I don't even try to stay dry at beaver dams anymore 😅 just hop in the water so I can avoid tipping the pack boats, tricky things to get in and out of!!
Luke and I did this trip back in 2021 too. A few years back started using fast draining boots in the water as well as on land while portaging. It seems to work really well. Getting in and out of the pack boat used to be more challenging until I started doing the one cheek sit into the boat. It makes it a lot easier to get in. It is very different then the techniques I use in my whitewater solo canoes though! Thanks for watching and for commenting!
Sorry about the delay, had to go look it up. For backcountry tripping I've been using the Merrell Men's Moab 2 Vent Mid Hiking Boot ( www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01HFA7WY4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). I also use the NRS Workboot when I am in my Whitewater solo canoe and expecting a much higher chance of swimming without as much concern about portaging!
We had an emergency fallback plan to camp in a more wild setting, no fire, just camp, using hammocks if we had troubles getting to the site. Ironically the one thing I missed the most on this trip, compared to my previous two journeys on the river, was the more complete sense of isolation. This time around we saw people each day where on my earlier trips I went three or four days without seeing anyone else. Thanks for watching and commenting. I enjoy your videos so it's a real pleasure to hear that you enjoyed mine!
@@jmullin It has been indeed. I am actually going to be augmented my Algonquin trips with some trips that are in more remote areas outside the park this year.

"oh boy, uh oh" splash! I'm sure you got a good laugh at that one in the edit. Very noble of you to test out the hazards first.
:) Well it did seem like the least I could do for my buddy Luke on his first trip to the backcountry with me! Now if you had been there........
Great video! Nice trip.
It's good to hear from you again! Are you as excited as I am about spring arriving? :)
great video ! really enjoyed it !
That's really nice to hear. Thank-you for watching the video and providing feedback! :)

Its the thing I don't like about the Tim river... just not enough campsites along the way. Enjoyed the vid!

@@NobleEndeavours123 Agreed, the park has been a lot busier the last couple years when its not under lockdown.
